Cannot create site template due to references containing formula's
Hi
We currently have in our production environment an issue creating a site template due to references in fields yet the UPSLogs do not state the column in question
The error I get when trying to save the template is as below:
Error:
The formula contains reference(s) to field(s)
Correlation ID: {b3c9eo56-f2e3-48aa-9f7d-86a63ab8a37f}
Date and Time: 2/3/2015 10:22:02
Is there any other way of identifying the column so I can resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance
If you know PowerShell or care to want to mess with this script you might get what you need:
$web = Get-SPWeb SITE
$list = $web.Lists["LIST"]
$FieldType = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFieldType]
$FieldType = $list.fields.GetField("COLUMN_NAME")
Foreach ($i in $FieldType)
IF($i.ValidationFormula -ne $Null)
Write-Host "Column Name:"$i.Title
Write-Host "Forumla:" $i.ValidationFormula
I wrote this very quickly so you have to note that you have to manually put the column name in and run it. It will show you in the out put the formula used on each column. I will work on this some more to get it to check all the columns and return you what's
being used and which is a reference.
UPDATED:
$web = Get-SPWeb SITE
$list = $web.Lists["LIST_NAME"]
$FieldType = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFieldType]
$FieldType = $list.fields
foreach($i in $FieldType)
Foreach ($item in $i)
IF($item.ValidationFormula -ne $Null)
Write-Host ""
Write-Host "Column Name:"$item.Title
Write-Host "Forumla:" $item.ValidationFormula -foreground Red
Write-Host ""

"The system cannot create journal template"
While creating the journal template for my legalapplication using wizard i get the following error
"The system cannot create journal template"
am using category, group and time as my header dimension --
group dimension contains the LC.
please suggest what steps can be taken. Also while trying to access journal from etools we get the message journal not found.
ThanksHi Andy,
Please check how many sheets are in a default excel workbook on your client. If less than three, BPC fails to create the journal template. If that's the case, try setting default number of worksheets to 3, then retry journal template creation.
If the above is not the issue, then you'll have to check that reporting services is working correctly. As a first step, go to http://<app server name>/reportserver (or reportserver$<instancename> if you are using a reporting services instance and left it with the default name)
If that page compiles and shows without error, then try http://<app server name>/ reports (or reports$<instance name>) If that one also compiles/doesn't give errors, then reporting services is working. -

Project Server 2013 - Cannot Create Site
When creating and publishing a project, Project Server is set up to create a site URL as part of the process. Since the middle part of this week 12/16/14 this functionality
stopped working and we need it to be working.
Here are the error messages and logs pulled from Project Server and SharePoint Central Admin

Error Message Creating Site Template
Hello,
When I go to Site Actions --> Site Settings --> Site Actions --> Save site as template, I receive an error message. I have asked several people to help me out with this, but I have received paths to find the ULS and locate the issue with the message.
Instead I went to Galleries --> Solutions. When I went to 'Activate' the page, I viewed the following error message:
Feature definition with Id 8a754d6e-e081-4d24-bfb8-7e4a7c5136f8 failed validation, file '1ProjectCharterListInstances\ElementsFields.xml', line 3166, character 82: The 'BdcField' attribute is not allowed.
I have gone to Central Administration -->Manage Service Applications--> Business Data Connectivity Service Application, but this is where ECT's were created and there were no ECT's created for this project. I even tried re-creating the site on a Parent
Level and I still received the same error message. I have gone to \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\XML, per another person having a similar issue here on MSDN, but I have no Idea where to go from here.
I see there is a 'BDCMetadata' and a 'BDCMetadataResource' files that will open up in Visual Studio.
Someone else told me that I need to go to 14/TEMPLATE/FEATURES, went there too, but I have no clue what I am looking for. Someone else told me that I
needed to check c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\14\logs, and I
did and see the log and am trying to view it for why the issue may have arisen.
I am still new to SharePoint and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Custom tab missing from Create Site template selection section in SharePoint 2010
Background:I migrated from SP 2007 to SP 2010.
ISSUE: my custom templates are visible in the Gallery list but when i try to create a new site the Custom tab selection is missing.
What am i doing wrong?Hi,
For a tip to understand for Visual Upgrade refer here :
Visual Upgrade
By Custom Templates, I mean remove old Master Pages : Go To Site Settings --> Look And Feel --> Master Pages (click on Master Pages to open window with Master Pages and CSS Style). From this page select V4Maste.master and default CSS. Refer here for
more on how to change :
Master Page
You can very well get back all your custom settings, but first lets try to resolve your first issue.

Cannot create Site Collection in new Webapplication after upgrade to SP1
Hello,
after upgrading my SharePoint Server 2013 (small Farm with one SP and one SQL) I am not able to create new site collections in new web application. Furthermore I am facing trouble when creating a new web application which I suspect is a connected problem.
Environment:
SharePoint 2013 ENU with german language pack upgraded to SharePoint 2013 SP1. Both parts are upgraded (SharePoint and Language pack). Afterwards I have done a psconfigui to upgrade the DB which works fine. Only one DB (BDC is still running in compatibility
mode).
Everything is running on a single server on Windows Server 2012.
Problem(s)
When I create a new web application it tooks a very long time (3 + minutes) and ends with an error message (Sorry something went wrong !). If I close this message I can see the new web application and also its content DB. If I then try to add a new site
collection into this new web application it fails (Sorry something went wrong).
I suspect this is a connected error, but I have now idea what is going on. Everythings else seems to work...
Any idea or support would be great.

MartinYou can get issues if you hit a time out message during the creation process. How does it work if you create a site collection using PowerShell?
You can extend the timeout duration this is for web application creation but might be of use here too: http://blog.babunski.me/2013/07/17/sharepoint-404-error-while-creating-a-new-web-application/
Do you get any error messages when you create the site collection? -

Create re-useable Site Template options
Hi
I've built a site collection using SharePoint UI. The SC contains 3 subsites with various unique permissions. There are now two requirements:
1. The entire site collection required duplicating (3 subsites)
2. On occasions Subsites need to be duplicated with differing content.
As this was built using UI, the only way I can duplicate the SC is a backup and restore, which works fine. (I dont have server access at moment and this becomes a IT request!)
With subsite duplication I've created site templates (wsp) using the UI, however creating this using UI method does not hold permissions. The other problem I found with the UI method for subsite creation is if feature 'SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure’
is enabled and then disabled it somehow corrupts the site wsp. This has happened and now receiving errors about duplicate columns when creating site from site template. I don’t think an easy fix is available to this. Luckily I have a .bak and can restore the
entire site collection to a new url.
As a result I think a more robust way is needed to create subsites and maybe create entire site collections. Can anyone suggest a way forward please?
Ideally, maybe a wsp for the SC and a way of adding subsites reliably that retain permissions.
Can I use a site definition for site templating?
As a last resort prepared to get hands dirty with VS :) and build dev server if best choice.
ThanksSince a lot of the definition of groups and users involved in permissions is stored at the site collection level, in general creating a site definition for a sub site will not include permissions.
I'm not aware of any way to export an existing site and turn it into a site definition
Yes, custom code is an option. All of this could be scripted using PowerShell or C# code. That's normally the way I would do it now. But that's not really easier than writing the XML and it can't be tied into the UI the way a site definition
can.
As I mentioned, what you are trying to do is not a simple thing. It can be done but will require a good bit of trial and error before you get it the way you want it to be.

I'm absolutely not opposed to doing a good deal of reading on this topic, so feel free to recommend online (and offline) resources that I might consult that provide the kind of information I'm seeking here. In any case, here is my issue...
I have been asked to develop "custom site templates" for an existing SharePoint 2013 (on-prem) environment where the vast majority of the site collections that are likely to ever be are already provisioned. My [admittedly feeble] understanding
of the "proper" way to do site templates is to reference the master pages and style library and such that exist at the site collection root for subordinate sites that are hosted within that site collection. Buuuuut, when the site collections already
exist (i.e. you aren't creating them using a customized template that contains all that information), what is the best practice approach to handling and applying these customizations?
I will point out that I am equipped and willing to manage these custom templates using VS (2013), but if that's not entirely necessary, then I'm as willing to avoid that... ;)
If someone could get me started on the right approach or point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.Hi Ramz_dc,
In addition to the default templates, you can create your own site template based on a site you’ve created and customized in SharePoint. This is a powerful feature in SharePoint that allows you to create a custom solution and then share that solution with
your peers, the broader organization, or outside organizations. You can also package the site and open it in another environment or application like Microsoft Visual Studio and further customize it there.

EHS & WWI: Error creating Report Template
Hi all,
We have installed WWI for defining report templates and cannot create the templates from cg42.
Let me try to reproduce my steps:
1. Enter cg42 and create a new template, entering the name and descirption (i.e. TEST WWI, Report Template Example)
2. Save the template
3. Display the document (F7)
4. Error message: "Cannot display document TEST_WWI vesion00" Message no. C$563
But if I change to display mode then if I press the Document button (F7) the report template is displayed.
Do you know why this could be?
Many thanks and regards,
AlbertoHola Alberto,

Create site Collection from site template containing blog subsite sp2013
Hello,
I want to create a site collection based on a `site template` that contains a `calendar app` and a `blog` subsite.
I explain, i have a site that contains a subsite of type `blog` site and also contains a calendar in `sharepoint 2013`, i saved the site as a template and checked **`include content`**.
However,
when i create a new sitecollection based on that template, i get the caledar app but never the blog subsite...
Am i missing something here? And how can we do this please?
Thanks in advanceSave site as Site Template only saves the individual site and its content, not the sub sites. please check below thread :

Hi everyone,
We're currently experiencing some issues saving a site as an template.
This is the error we get in the event viewer:
Exception information:
Exception type: InvalidOperationException
Exception message: Error saving solution to temporary file
at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSolutionExporter.ExportWebAsSolution()

at System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument)
at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)
I've looked everywhere for this error and all the sites point to a permission issue; I've check that already: it isn't. We've tried creating this template via PowerShell, C# command line application, SharePoint Designer and the savetmpl.aspx page at the
site itself: no result; Yes, it is a publishing site, but that didn't stop us. We've created a site template from a different site and the publishing feature was also enabled there.
Later this site really helped me into digging deeper into the logs: http://www.sharepointblogs.be/blogs/vandest/archive/2014/05/23/sharepoint-how-to-troubleshoot-issues-with-save-as-template.aspx
The annoying part is: the folder that is being created by the web application pool user when saving the site as a template is totally empty!
How can this be? Did I miss something? Could someone help me with this issue?
Thanks in advanced!
With kind regards,
M. HekmanHi ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you encountered the error “Error saving solution to temporary file” when you tried to save a publishing site as a template.
For your issue, please make sure you have set the SaveSiteAsTemplateEnabled property of your publishing site to true. You can refer to the PowerShell script as below:
# Get a reference to the target site
$web = Get-SPWeb http://Intranet.SWRanger.com/Publishing
# Update the property bage value and set it to the string value "true"
$web.AllProperties["SaveSiteAsTemplateEnabled"] = "true"
# Commit the property change to server
$web.Update()
