Cannot get the output

Question

anybody know whats wrong with this code
I cannot get the output it should be 9

int a[] = { 7, 8, 9, 9, 8, 7 };

System.out.println(findMax(a));
public int findMax(int a[], int max)
for (int i = 0; i < a.length; i++)
if(a[i] > max)
max = array;
