Cannot install Updated Flash Player

I've tried several times without success to update my Adobe Flash Player software to version 11.7.700.169. Here's what happens: Whenever I need to use Flash Player, I am told my current version is "vulnerable" and automatically connected with the Adobe installation page. I click on "Download Now," and  a rectangle appears that says, "Preparing installation. Please wait," along with a progress bar. But once the progress bar stops and the rectangle goes away, no Opening dialog box appears. In fact, nothing appears. Does anyone know how I can get past this point or how I might update my Flash Player software another way? Thanks.
I have a ThinkPad T61 laptop with Windows XP Professional 32-bit operating system, and I browse with Firefox 20.0.1.

Download and run the offline installer from n-pars_header (under the header Progress Bar Hangs).

    Hi Blanca rey
You Can try Uninstalling Flash Player using - Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS
and Use the Offline Flash Player Installer for Mac (Safari and Firefox) from here - Installation problems | Flash Player | Mac
    Hope it helps,
While you try the above suggestion,  can you also share the Version of Mac on which you are updating Flash Player and how are you doing it?

  • Cannot Install Adobe Flash Player 11

I am trying to install Adobe Flash Player 11 onto a my computer but it just goes to 95% and locks up.
I am using Windows XP Pro- version 5.1, service pack 3
    Enternet Explorer 8- version 8.0.6001.187.02
The computer had a working copy of Adobe Flash 10X and Adobe Air on it.  When I could not get the Player 11 to install (went to 95% then locked).  I tried to un-install both the Flash 10X and Air, but they would not un-install (sent auto. error reports to microsoft).  So I used a pro un-installer program to uninstall them both, but the un-installer could not delete the "windows/system32/atmfd.dll" file.  Tried to un-install the atmfd.dll file manually but only get the "cannot delete atmfd: Access denied" error.
I have tried clearing all my browser cookies, history, ect., stop my anti-viruse program, ran a register repair program, and re-booting my computer, then running the Adobe Flash Un-install Program (which always shows that the fash program is completly un-installed) and re-running the Adobe Flash 11 install program again.
Same thing, the installer goes to 95% and locks up to the point that the only way to stop the installer program is to reboot my computer.
What can I do to get this Adobe Flash 11 installed, as since I removed the old Flash 10X program I no longer have any Adobe Flash?  Which I do need.

Ok, here is what I had to do to get the Adobe Flash 11 to install.
    (1. Run the Adobe un-install program from
    (2. Go in c:/windows/system32 and delete the Macromedia folder
    (3. Run a register repair program to fix any register errors.
(4 Go in c:/Documents and Settings/Application Data and delete the Macromedia folder
(5 Go in c:/Documents and Settings/Application Data/Adobe and delete the Flash Player folder
(6 Go to and run the standard Adobe Flash 11 install program (the offline installer's at the Adobe site listed above would not run after I deleted the Documents and Settings/Application Data folders, for some reason)
(7 When it got to Finish, allow it to auto. open a CMD screen and then answered Y to both questions.
This is how I got it to complete the install and not lock up at 95%.  For some reason the Adobe un-install program was not removing the Documents and Settings Adobe Flash Player programs and these are what were locking up the install program.

  • Cannot install adobe flash player 10 on my windows xp

i cannot install the adobe fash player 10 on my windows xp, the promblem is not installing it the problem is the player taking effect. i have downloaded the player both the plugin and activeX, but after i install them i go to search up a video, the screen for the video says to get a turn on java and get a newer version of flash player. i did all the security things in troubleshooting all what i needed but nonthing, i have uninstalled and installed over and over, all i need to do is this to vvach all my videos, and the compture went throught a cleane up a few days ago 215 viruses removed and all the updates, java, ect. was removed, i have goten all of them back except flash player, i tryed to install 8 then 9 then 10 but nonthing, please if you can help me help me please, thank you.

    ok, our posts crossed.
The first thing you need to do is remove the Google and Yahoo Tool bars. After you have successfully installed Flash Player 10, then you can decide if you want to add them back.
You say you are running with add ons disabled, but the status is enabled? Please explain.
The latest Uninstaller and Installer will both be downloaded directly to your desktop and not from where you downloaded before.
This is the lastest way that Adobe has suggested that will have a better degree of success.
Just a FYI... The Adobe forum here is going to be shut down starting at 8PM Pacific Time for 2 hours. They have an announcement up but just thought I would mention it in case you didn't see it.
Since Uninstalling & Installing may take some time, you may want to wait until tomorrow to start it, since the site here will be down for awhile.
Just clarify the add on info, though.

  • '07 macbook pro with Lion.  I cannot install Adobe Flash Player.  Tried uninstalling old version - didn't help.  I'm a novice and stuck.  Help.

Cannot figure out why I can't install Flash Player update.  Even tried uninstalling old version - as Adobe site seemed to suggest, but now have no Flash Player.
I'm not really computer savy but am frustrated since everywhere I go on web uses Flash Player.  Any ideas, suggestion?  Please help.

Feel sooo dumb.  Found my error with confidence of your instruction and link.  At 'quit' or 'install' box didn't realize need to check box so obviously didn't install.  This time accidentally hovered over darkened 'install' button so instructions lit up - voila!  Thanks for your help.  I'm back in business.

  • Possible fixes to install/update Flash Player in IE 9

OK just spent a couple of hours attempting to get IE 9 (32-bit) to install Flash Tried all the troubleshooting advice - turned off security, etc.
Problem: When clicked on download button, the download page would come up but nothing happened.
Solution: Discovered setting in IE 9 called "Active X Filtering". It's located in the Tools Menu/Saftey section. If it has a check mark, un-check it and try Flash install again. This solved my problem - hope it helps others.
FYI - I'm running Win7 64-bit OS. After also unchecking "ActiveX Filtering" in IE 9 (64-bit), the 64-bit Flash Player preview "Square" could also be downloaded and installed.
If nothing else works try the MANUAL INSTALLER located at:
Flash Player 10 ActiveX (Internet Explorer 32-bit)
Flash Player 10 Plugin (All other Windows browsers, such as Firefox or Google Chrome)
    Have a good day.

Hi, Thanks for your input. Just to add a bit of info, when Win7 came out with the SP1, this was included with that also. Whether this is turned on by default I haven't heard.
I agree on the Manual Uninstall/Install also. Now Google Chrome is embedded with Flash Player and updates on it's own.
Glad you figured it all out:-)

  • Installing update Flash Player on Windows 8.1

Dell Inspiron 660, Windows 8.1, Flash player pre-installed as noted in control panel at  I would like to update to Flash player  Is that possible and how would I do that?  The note that comes up at Adobe's website is that the flash player is pre-installed so I don't have to install it.  Well, yes, but it is dated, so I do.  You would think it would just do it automatically like Java, but no.

Both my Z1 and my wife's Xperia SP, which are software up to date, won't play video which need adobe flash, and I cannot find the correct version (if there is one) to allow this.
Is there a fix so I can play some video files such as those found on the BBC news website?

  • Cannot install latest flash player, previous adobe download had lots of pups

Clamwin found and quarantined lots of infected (more than 60 adobe) files.  I deleted them from the clamwin quarantine and then from my recycle folder.  Then I got lots of "unresponsive scripts".  Then, I tried to download and install the latest adobe flash player (because I thought the deleted infected files might be adobe flash files...they were definitely some kind(s) of adobe files.  Now, I am trying to download and reinstall the latest flash player to remedy my lot of "unresponsive scripts", but I cannot complete its installation. I get a message that instructs me to close Mozilla Firefox...which is not open.
