Cannot query conditionals on column in view

We are upgrading our oracle database from 9i to 11g. The upgrade is complete but we are running into one issue regarding a view. We are able to query the view without any problems, but when querying a specific column for a specific value, we are not getting a results back although we are able to when performing the same query on the 9i database. The view that is not working is:
Select count(*) from v_test where statuscode like '%active%';
The view has been dropped and recreated. If I do select * from v_test it works fine.
Any help/suggestion is appreciated.

    Hi All,
After all R&D it is been found that Oracle business administrator( RPD) needs default dbo schema. It doesn't accept custom schema for pulling data.
If anybody have other views please share.!!

  • Attributes selected in query with no column type found! (solved)

    Dear JHeadstart Team,
In the view object Editor I have two entity based attributes attrib1 and attrib2
both with type Number. Both have aliases with type number(9,0)
If attrib1 is null I want to have the value of attrib2.
In the expression box I put: nvl(attrib1,attrib2)
When I press the ok button I get the next error message.
"Attributes selected in query with no column type found!
Specifying column-type and precision results in better query performance at runtime.
Do you wish to set default column type for these attributes? "
When I say ok I get the next message:
"An error occurred. Unable to apply all the wizard changes.
Column type cannot be changed for Entity based attribute.
    Exception: oracle.jbo.dt.objects.JboExeption."
The details button serves no extra information.
Since both the attributes have the same type I thought the nvl commando should work.
But what does the "no column type found" sentence mean?
    regards,
    Marcel.

    Thanks Jan,
You've put me on the right track.
I found out that this is only possible in the entity object class.
So I have to check my limited java skills.

  • Querying data from the maintenance view.

    Hi Experts,
Well, i need the STEXT field value from the maintanance view V_T591A created for the standard table T591A.
Table T591A has the field Subtype but doesn't have the field Stext, which consists the description of the subtype. The Stext field is there in the maintenance view V_T591A.
So, if i want to query the respective description of the specific subtype, how do i get the values from the maintenance view?
    Please advice.
    Thanks in anticipation to all!
    Cheers,
    Sundar.

    Atish,
It is not possible that way! U cannot Query directly from MV as a DB table.
Anyways, i managed to find the answer.
    Thanks though.

  • Query rewrites with Nested materialized views with different aggregations

    Platform used : Oracle 11g.
Here is a simple fact table (with measures m1,m2) and dimensions (a) Location (b) Calendar and (c) Product. The business problem is that aggregation operator for measure m1,m2 are different along location dimension and Calendar dimension. The intention is to preaggregate the measures for a product along the calendar dimension and Location dimension and store it as materialized views.
The direct option is to define a materialized view with Inline queries (Because of the different aggrergation operator, it is not possible to write a query without Inline query). http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28313/qradv.htm#BABEAJBF documents the limitations that it works only for 'Text match' and 'Equivalent queries' and that is too limiting.
So decided to have nested materialized view, with first view having just joins(my_dim_mvw_joins), the second view having aggregations along Calendar dimension (my_dim_mvw_calendar) and third view having aggregations along the Location dimension(my_dim_mvw_location). Obviously I do not want the query I fire to know about materialized views and I fire it against the fact table. I see that for the fired query (Which needs aggregations along both Calendar and Location), is rewritten with just second materialized view but not the third. (Had set QUERY_REWRITE_INTEGRITY as TRUSTED) .
Wanted to know whether there are limitations on Query Writes with nested materialized views? Thanks
(Have given a simple testable example below. Pls ignore the values given in 'CALENDAR_IDs', 'PRODUCT_IDs' etc as they are the same for all the queries)

This Query rewrites only with my_dim_mvw_calendar. (as saw in Query Plan and EXPLAIN_MVIEW). But we would like it to use my_dim_mvw_location as that has aggregations for both dimensions.

    Hi all,
I'm trying to make my programmer's life easier by creating a database view for them to query the data, so they don't have to worry about joining tables. This sounds like a pretty horrible idea. I say this because you will eventually end up with programmers that know nothing about your data model and how to properly interact with it.
Additionally, what you will get is a developer that takes one of your views and see's that of the 20 columns in it, it has 4 that he needs. If all those 4 columns comes from a simple 2 table join, but the view has 8 tables, you're wasting a tonne of resources by using the view (and heaven forbid they have to join that view to another view to get 4 of the 20 columns from that other view as well).
Ideally you'd write stored routines that satisfy exactly what is required (if you are the database resource and these other programmers are java, .net, etc... based) and the front end developers would call those routines customized for an exact purpose.
Creating views is not bad, but it's by no means a proper solution to having developers not learn or understand SQL and/or the data model.

  • ADF BC : "Attributes selected in query with no column type found! ..."

    hi
Using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0, I have this "Selected in Query" attribute, "Never" updatable, in my Entity Object.
The Entity Object is based on the SCOTT.EMP table and the attribute, called "BonusInfo", is defined using the expression " '[bonus info ' || (SAL * 2) || ']' ".
    see http://verveja.footsteps.be/~verveja/files/oracle/NoColumnTypeFoundApp-v0.01.zip
While creating this Entity Object, I got a "Business Components" dialog that says:
"Column type is not specified for this attribute. Specifying column-type and precision results in better query performance at runtime. Do you wish to set column type to VARCHAR2(255)?"
    I clicked "Yes".
I also created two View Objects based on this Entity Object.
In the "Create View Object" wizard "Step 4 of 7: Attribute Settings" I got a "Business Components" diaglog that says:
"Attributes selected in query with no column type found! Specifying column-type and precision results in better query performance at runtime. Do you wish to set default column type for these attributes?"
    I clicked "Yes".
Testing the query in "Step 5 of 7: SQL Statement" showed "Query is valid.".
    question:
Why do I keep getting the message ...
"Attributes selected in query with no column type found! Specifying column-type and precision results in better query performance at runtime. Do you wish to set default column type for these attributes?"
... in the View Object Editor if I click on different attributes?
(I don't get such a message the first time I click on an attribute after opening the View Object Editor, but after that it keeps popping up each time I click on a different attribute, no matter what I answer "Yes", "No" or "Cancel".)
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Jan,
BC needs the column type and precision so that we can allocate the correct JDBC buffer size; otherwise we would just allocate 2k per string.

  • Why we cannot perform DML operations against complex views directly.

    hi
can any tell me why we cannot perform DML operations against complex views directly.

    Hi,
It is not easy to perform DML operations on complex views which involve more than one table as said by vissu. The reason being you may not know which columns to be updated/inserted/deleted on the base tables of the views. If it is a simple view containing a single table it is as simple as performing actions on the table.

    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 1445, message: ORA-01445: cannot select ROWID from a join view without a key-preserved table at OCI call OCIStmtExecute. [nQSError: 17010] SQL statement preparation failed. (HY000)
    Please suggest me a solution..
    Thanks in Advance...

Looks like you have a view that contains the ROWID of another table. Does the view work first from sqlplus? See whether it returns any data. Its a ORA- specific error. So, the error is related to your view rather than BI EE. Also, how many columns are you trying to pull in your report?
    Thanks,
    Venkat

  • ORA-01445: cannot select ROWID from a join view without a key-preserved tab

    Hi All,
I have 2 windows in a form. When i click on a button in first window, then 2nd window will be opened. (Note: both windows are based have master-details relationship with Table1 and Table2 respectively)
When i enter the information in 2nd window and click the SAVE Button it has to save those values to database. It used to work fine earlier. now, i am getting the following error.
FRM-40501: ORACLE error: unable to reserve record for update or delete.
ORA-01445: cannot select ROWID from a join view without a key-preserved table
Please help me, how can i resolve this error. Also, guide me what is a key-preserved table.
    Thanks in advance,
    Amar

Firstly: - Please make sure that you have not opened the same record somewhere else in any other form and trying to update from there.
Secondly: - In your window 1 have you opened the same record which you are querying, editing and saving in window 2 ? If yes then this will givbe you error as you are trying to update a record which is already being updated somewhere else.
    Please mark if it helps

  • How to query a CLOB column

    Hello All,
I am trying to query a CLOB column with some text string. Can anyone tell me how to do this. Here is a simple example of my code and the error message I get....
    SQL> select title_column from atlas_table where clob_column like '%a%';
    select title_column from atlas_table where clob_column like '%e%'
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes
    Thanks,
    Danny

Selecting a LOB from a table actually returns the LOB's locator and not the entire LOB value..
and you should have a frontend to retrieve the clob or blob..
if u have you can view/update/..do DML operations on the column
    null

A view is nothing more than a stored query, change the query and you change the view.
    SQL> create view vw

  • Use evdre to query data from a SQL View

    Hi all
I believe that it is possible to use evdre to query data from a SQL View. If this is possible then how does one go about setting it up in the evdre options (assuming that the view has already been created)?
    Regards,
    Byron

Byron,  perhaps this is no longer supported, it might be worth opening up a case at service.sap.com on this.  However, I did find the following on Page 11 of the "Usages and Considerations of EVDRE" pdf file.  This doc is imbedded in the helpfile for BPC 7 SP5 (which was released in August of 2009, well after note 1315011 was last updated.
It looks like you are limited to one custom view per application, since you have to name the view in a parameter at the APPLICATION level.  Go into BPC Administration, login to the application related to the custom view, choose "Set Application Parameters" and enter the name of the view to the Application Parameter called "EVDRE_QUERYVIEWNAME"  If it is not listed, go ahead and create it at the bottom of the Application parameter screen.
Also:  I interpreted the following info from Page 10 of the same doc:
In your EVDRE, set the following options:
    QueryEngine: MANUAL
QueryType:  enter either NEXJ  OR TUPLE  see below:
NEXJ  - Use two-dimensional queries using the nonemptycrossjoin function
TUPLE  - Use two-dimensional queries using tuples"
And I'm assuming you'd enter a Y for the following two parameters:
    QueryViewName
"..to enforce the query engine to use a used-defined SQL view of the fact tables, when trying to read the values using SQL queries. This option is typically used in conjunction with the SQLOnly option (see below). "
    Option SQLOnly
"..to enforce the query engine to only execute SQL queries, when reading data. This can be achieved using this option."
