Has anyone ecountered the following promblem after installing Solaris 10 08/07 for a Sparc processor .I am trying to exceed to the server but cannot get access to CDE or Gnome as the Xserver is not running!

I have tried creating the xorg.conf file /usr/X11/bin/Xorgconfig as recommened form a similar thread but this has not worked.
I can telnet when I try to ssh it is asking me for interactive kb security check and can't login with root password...
which works when I telent!!
Has anyone ecountered this before??

Cannot start GUI/XServer on Solaris 10 10/08

I keep getting an error that says it "failed to load the x-server on display 0;" This is a fresh installation of Solaris 10 (released 10/08). After rebooting during the installation this is the first login screen that i got. I can access command line but not the GUI. Any ideas?

Cannot start Solaris Management Console in Solaris 9

I cannot start the Solaris Management Console in Solaris 9. The splash screen appears for a few seconds, then nothing else.
There is a error: "Assertion Fail: Offset < fFileSize ..." something like that.

Solaris 10 x86 (gold) will not install - Cannot start X-Server

Okay,. this is really stupid. I don't understand this one at all.
I cannot install Solaris x86 (gold - as in "non-beta") at all. I have tried both the ATI Rage 128 Pro and NVidia GeForce chipsets. Both cards are correctly detected; however, regardless of what selection or driver option I choose, the installation crashes immediately thereafter.
If I let the installation go on its own, it stops completely at the "Detecting additional network parameters" or whatever that particular error message is.
If I manually select the standard (non XF86) drivers of the card, black-on-yellow text complains about how it cannot detect the card (that it correctly identified) and that it cannot start the X server. It then improperly displays the text menu for language selection and stops.
If I manually select the XF86 drivers, it gets all of the way through to where I test the video mode and then just dies. No error message or anything.

Jesus, Sun! What the hell is going on? These are two INDUSTRY STANDARD video cards! These aren't some run-of-the-mill, no-name chipsets we're talking about! It's exactly because of idiotic driver issues like this that people laugh when given the choice between Solaris and Linux while looking for Windows alternatives for the desktop!

Sorry for the rant, but I've been complaining for years that issues like this are exactly why Windows has been allowed to dominate the desktop. Now here comes Linux which supports just about everything, and Sun still apparently has no clue about supporting desktops. I know , I know-- servers are Sun's strengths, but if Sun is going to try to get JDS onto the desktop, this is not the way to go about it.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest (I really needed that), does anyone know what needs to be done to get this to install properly and of course function properly thereafter without having to jump througha ton of hoops?

That's just what really bothers me about this!
Last week, I installed from the very same CDs onto an old Celeron 633 w/ 128 MB and ATI Rage video chipset just for giggles. Everything went beautifully except for the network. (Once again, Sun shows its pathetic weakness on drivers thus giving Linux a major edge.) The only video error that I got was remedied by switching to the standard driver from the XF86 driver. It ran like a champ afterwards except that it got confused on the network card and therefore prevented network connectivity.
So, this time I tried to install it on a Pentium 4 1.8 GHz w/ 512 MB RAM, and it's puking on me with same video chipset family (ATI Rage) as well as NVidia chipsets! Absolutely ridiculous!

Automatic stop/start of databases on solaris 10

I've followed the documentation in terms of creating the dbora script and linking it but unfortunately, my db isn't coming back up on reboot.
Anyone has seen this?
My unix administrator is saying there is no log file to review on solaris 10 on reboot. Is there a log somewhere i can check?

This is what I did:
1. Edit the /var/opt/oracle/oratab file for Solaris and /etc/oratab file for
HP and Linux.
Database entries in the oratab file appears in the following format:
ORACLE_SID:ORACLE_HOME:Y
In the preceding command, Y or N specifies whether you want the dbstart
and dbshut scripts to start up and shut down the database. For each database
that you want to start up, find the ORACLE_SID entry identified by the sid in
the first field. Change the last field for each to Y.
For Oracle Real Application Clusters installation, this entry appears in the
following format:
DB_NAME:ORACLE_HOME:Y
In the preceding command, DB_NAME is the cluster database name. Y or N
specifies whether you want the dbstart and dbshut scripts to start up and
shut down the database.
2. In the /etc/init.d directory, create a dbora script similar to the following, if
it does not already exist. Be sure to give the full path of the dbstart utility.

Cannot start iPS3.0SP4

I have just install iPS3.0SP4 on Solaris 8, on this machine i aslo installed Checkpoint firewall for testing.
After i install iPS, i start "ipsserver start". I got the following error, i think it related to library from firewall, but i don't know why because i haven't setting those parameter on installation:

I've already try to reinstall with and without the RemoteInstall directory with no success.
WDSUTIL /get-server /show:all /detailed shows me that's all right except for the service that cannot start
James, these settings for the WDSServer are very interesting, but all the settings in the registry that I have are the same to other WDSServer installations that I manage.
FYI:
In my AD WDS object (AD Server computer account), the "Remote Installation" tab is missing.
I've installed a temporary WDSServer succesfully, but I must solve the issue in the original server.

Note: e:\RemoteInstall is a path of the WDS. It could be customized based on your scenario.
Then try to start the WDS service in the service.msc. If the issue still remained, please look into the Event Viewer to verify whether the new Events have been recorded, if so, please post back the detailed information here.

I cannot start the iPlanet LDAP console after I remotely login in via "Reflection X" and use "# ./startconsole"

I don't have any solution to this problem but just wanted to share my thoughts. It seems to me like there might be a problem with either "Reflection X" setup or any custom X properties defined on the server where your console is running. I use Reflection X with NDS installed on solaris box but I never had this problem. I have seen similar errors when using X terminal and in those cases my properties were defines incorrectly.

"Device Cannot Start - Code 10" - Windows Vista Error, w/ 2nd Gen. Nano

I'm having trouble with my Nano and Windows Vista. The computer is recognizing the iPod just fine and seeing all of my songs, but nothing will play and the diamond bar does not move. I can't hear previews online either.
Under device manager, a yellow "!" shows up for the iPod, and it says "Device Cannot Start - Code 10" when I check. All of my drivers and updates are current as of today. So is iTunes. Any thoughts?

This is a reasonably common error on a PC when there is a problem with either a USB device, your USB cables or hardware, or the system drivers.
In a case where, as you say, the device works properly with other computers, the problem is more likely to be with the hardware or drivers on the computer you're trying to connect to.

Audacious, skin problem. Cannot start.

I just installed Audacious player, but I cannot start it. When I try to run the player, I get the following error message:
Unable to load skin.
Check that skin at '(null)' is usable and default scin is properly installed at '/usr/share/audacious/Skins/Default'.
I have the default skin in /usr/share/audacious/Skins/Default directory. I do not know what the first part of the message means (Check that skin at '(null)' is usable...). Can someone give me a hand.
I do not know what else information to post. If you need to know anything for my system, I will post the info. I have Arch GNU/Linux Core Dump, kernel: 2.6.24-ARCH. The system is installed as "Basic", I am using fluxbox ... If you need anything else ...

Installation of Oracle 11g on RHEL 5 (Listener cannot start )

I have install Oracle 11g on my linux RHEL5. The installation was succesfull but cannot start the listener. The configuration of even the EM at the end of the installation for the same reason , Listener not started.

I recommend removing and reinstalling iTunes using these steps:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist

I'm running an Xserve G5 with one internal boot drive and one RAID using the other two internal drives. I used Apple's Disk Utility to set-up the RAID.
Back in early December, I moved my mail database and mail store to the RAID. Ever since, when I restart the server, the mailaccess.log generates the following error:
Jan 23 18:51:33 mail master[47]: ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist: /Volumes/RAID/mail.data/db
I'm speculating this is a timing error that gets created when Postfix initially can't find the RAID. Then, it must try again and find it because the error message does not repeat and mail starts running.
Is this something to worry about?

You're right, it's a timing issues. The mail system is ready for work before the file system is mounted. It's benign.
