Canon HF-200 1080i50 - Looks strange 50i vs 25fps

Hi,
I also get the same problem. Just bought Canon HF 200 1080i50 European PAL model.
And i've filmed a bunch of test videos 50i fps and 25p fps.
And started to import in Final Cut Pro 6.0.5.
Video settings:
Sequence Preset: Apple ProRes 422 1920x1080 50i 48kHz
Capture preset: HDV-Apple ProRes 422
And it all seems so weired:
Clips captured at 50i - looks interlaced and jagged - when i look at Item properties, there is Vid rate: 25fps Field Dominance: None ????????
but
Clips captured at 25fps - looks OK - when i look at Item properties, there is Vid rate: 25fps Field Dominance: Upper (Odd) ????????
This all is not right .... there should be where 50i Field Dominance and not with 25fps
Maybe you can help me with settings to import AVCHD from Canon HF200 to FCP ???
thanx,
Kaspars

FIRST thing to check: BEFORE you Log and Transfer.. check the FORMAT column in the L&T Window.. this will give you the actual format of the video in its native form before FC gets it hands on it. Compare this to the Item Properties AFTER you ingest and see if it's any different.
Also, when you selct your EASY SET .. PRESS SET UP then start editing.
Ive got a Canon HF100 (PAL) and a Panasonic AG-HMC151E (PAL) they are both AVCHD.. both Shoot 25P .. when I import the two.. Canon is 50i field dom= UPPER .. Panasonic is 25P field dom=NONE.
Video seetings for both ProRes422 HQ 1080/25P 48kHz
Capture: ProRes HQ (though FC can only ProRes from L&T of course!)
Canon does 25P but over 50i .. However, im not sure about my Panasonic as i just got it! .. Will find this out asap.
Hope this helps a little?

  • Canon HF-200 1080i50 - Looks good in FCE but Export to Quicktime is jerky

    Hi,
Title says it all really. I have FCE 4 and over the weekend I picked up a Canon HF-200 (PAL UK version). I am sort of impressed by the quality of the camera - I will probably post about that soon - but I have a real issue with 'Export to Quicktime' (the uncompressed MOV file).
I have the 'easy setup' set so that its 1080i50. I used Log and transfer. I dragged a couple of clips onto the sequence (which looks great - perfect playback on the Viewer etc), saved the project, chose to Export the sequence. It gave me a huge file as expected but its jerky and pixelated during movement. A similar test with 25p clips worked fine - the Quicktime Movie looks as it did on the viewer.
    Any ideas?

Is everyone's iTunes like this right now?

  • Which is the better lens for wildlife, sport action canon 70-200 is usm ii series L or Canon 100-400

Which would be a better for wildlife and sport action Canon 70-200  mm is usm ii serie L f/2.8 or Canon 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6?

On what camera? It makes a big difference depending upon whether you are using full frame or a crop camera.
Also depends upon the particular sports and type of wildlife most commonly involved, how much reach you might need.  Outdoor, daytime sports vs indoor and nightime sports is another key factor.
On a crop camera a 70-200 is generally a lot more usable than it is on full frame, for sports and wildlife. An f2.8 lens and 70-200 might be ideal for indoor sports even with a crop camera. It also might be plenty for large game that can be pretty closely approacted. But for small and more shy wildlife, sports on a  larger playing field, you'll more likely need the 100-400. But as an f4.5-5.6 lens that's going to be more of a daytime-only lens.
The 100-400mm is unusual in that it's a push/pull zoom. This can be particularly fast to use and makes the lens popular among photograhers shooting fast moving subjects such as birds in flight and air shows.
If you give serious consideration to the 70-200/2.8 IS II in combination with teleconverter EF 2X III, I'd suggest renting and trying them toghether first. The reason is that a stronger 2X teleconverter has more effect on image quality than a weaker TC. The specific combination of the 70-200 Mark II lens and the 2X Mark III TC is pretty darned good.... better than the combo earlier versions of each item.  But whether or not it's up to your expectastions is a judgment call only you can make. So it might be wise to rent before you buy, just to be sure.
If instead you start to take a hard look at the 100-400mm, once again you might want to rent it and give it a try. Some people really like the push/pull zoom design. Some don't. (I'm one of the latter...  but to be fair this is largely an old  prejudice from trying to use that type of zoom in the past, long before IS. I always found push-pull zooms hard to get a steady shot with.... But the 100-400's IS goes a long way toward solving that problem.)
And those two really aren't your only choices.
Personally I use a pair of crop cameras (7D), most of the time one fitted with a 70-200, and the other fitted with a 300/4 IS, sometimes in combination with an EF 1.4X II teleconverter. Or, when I don't need to be mobile and can set up a tripod, I'll use a 300/2.8 IS, both by itself and with EF 1.4X II or 2X II teleconverters.
Another possibility is two lower cost lenses... such as a 70-200/4 IS in combination with a third party lens such as the Sigma 120-400 OS or 150-500 OS. Those lenses are considerably less expensive than the 70-200/2.8 II and the 100-400, respectively. You might be able to afford both and still find they meet your needs very well.
I use the 70-200/4 IS, as well as a copy of the first version of the 70-200/2.8 IS, and they are excellent lenses too. No doubt about it, the 70-200/2.8 IS Mark II is top of the heap and exceptionally good... but rest assured those other 70-200s are no slouches.
If using a full frame camera, for large field sports and more distant, smaller wildlife.... better start saving up. You're going to need one or two of the super telephotos, such as the new EF 200-400/4L IS 1.4X that I'm saving up for!
p.s. By the way, if not already doing so you might want to try Back Button Focusing. It's a very popular technique among sports/action and wildlife photographers. I've been using it for years for virtually everything I shoot, and can't imagine using any other method now.

  • [SOLVED] Desktop looks strange after upgrade to Gnome3!

    Hi there,
I just upgraded my system (about 200 packages) and when I rebooted my Login-Screen looked strange.
When I logged in the strange screen persisted... Arch told me that Gnome3 couldn't be loaded and
that this has probably something to do with my graphics hardware.
This is what it looks like:

As you can see my Dekstop looks like shit. Also the WiFi Password isnt saved, which is a minor issue for me.
But what really sucks is that the system flag is missing!!
I have no idea how to even start to solve this...
    Please help!!!

  • Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize Canon Lide 200 Scanner

My recently installed Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize my  Canon Lide 200 scanner even though Adobe Photoshop CS2 does.  I don't know what the problem is and how to solve it.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 was recently installed on new Vista 64bit computer and functions with all programs and even prints to my Dell 1600n printer, but when I try to scan from the printer, it causes this error message and shuts Acrobat down:
"ADOBE ACROBAT HAS STOPED WORKING A Problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have lived with this since I bought the computer a month ago. Still no solution from Adobe and no response to an email that I sent to adobe support.

  • My own website looks strange in Firefox, but it is good in Safari, why?

The shadows behind my photos in my website (under the SHOP) looks strange. They are completely black with clear edges, but when I put my pictures so I have just added a little blurry shadows behind the images.
This problem did not exist before, it's just a couple of months been like this in Firefox.
    Sincerely Mahzoni

That is unfortunately a bug (Bug 662898) that slipped into Firefox 5 and that will be fixed in Firefox 6, due to be released in August.

  • [Solved] Openproj looks strange in the awesome WM

    Hi Community,
I just installed openproj from the AUR. But when I run it in the awesome WM, I found the background of the application looked nearly blank, which made openproj impossible to edit in.
It looks strange. So, openproj cannot be run from the awesome WM?
Any idea will be helpful. Thanks.
    =======
    Solved:
Just edit the file /usr/bin/openproj and add a line to be as follows:
    #!/bin/sh
    wmname LG3D
    java -Xms128m -Xmx768m -jar /usr/share/openproj/openproj.jar > /dev/null

    Edit:
I've found a detailed description from this article: Java GUI application in Awesome Window Manager.
There is a known problem with Java and the non-reparenting Window Managers like for example Awesome.
Java applications which use the XToolkit/XAWT backend may draw gray windows only. The XToolkit/XAWT backend breaks ICCCM-compliance in JDK 5 and 6 because it assumes a reparenting window manager.
There are a number of places where this is described:
        * in the FAQ : GUI Java apps appear as a gray screen!
        * in the wiki Problems with Java
        * in the Man page
    To sum up:
        * it doesn't affect version Java 1.4.2 and before.
        * it doesn't affect version Java 1.7 and hopefully after.
        * the best workaround by far, is to set a name to the Window Manager, so it is recognise by Java as a non-reparenting Window Manager. A simple utility allow to set this name. Just add 'wmname LG3D' to your .xinitrc or simply run it.
        * Here are other workarounds left here for reference:
o launch another X server, like Xephyr
o set the following environment variable (to use the older Motif back-end instead): AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit. But this won't work in the following cases :
                    + OpenJDK/IcedTea doesn't include the Motif toolkit.
+ doesn't work for x86_64 Java, for whatever reason

  • Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x Lens Profile

The Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x Lens does currently not have a lens profile in LR 5.x. What is the likelihood that Adobe will add one?

The lens profile delineates corrections for geometric (barrel or pincushion) distortion and for light fall-off (vignetting). The CA correction and defringe functions are separate tools that just happen to be grouped together with profile application function and the perspective distortion tools in the same panel because there is a certain logic to having them under one roof.

  • Canon HF 200 Compatibility

Am trying to determine if FCE 4 on Intel iMac will load video directly from the Canon HF 200 without need for rerendering.
Bulletin boards seem unclear on this.
    Anyone know for sure?
The Canon HF 200 uses a flash card for storage.
FCE does not list this camera as compatible, but does list other Canon flash card camcorders.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm trying to use log and transfer function for the first time to get footage from a Canon HF200 camera. I've got an Intel-based MacBook Pro, upgraded to FCE 4, and all the clips shows up in the log and transfer window. But when I try to add a clip to the queue it thinks for a few seconds, then gives me a red stop sign and exclamation point. When I hover my mouse over it it says "Error: no data".
Any ideas on the best way to troubleshoot this?

  • Canon ZR-200

I have a Canon ZR-200. When I connect it to my MacBook (10.5.6) via firewire and open iMovie to upload the video - it sees the camcorder - rewinds it - and goes to import - but it crashes...every time. Does anyone know a solution? I have even tried to upload to OneTrueMedia - but I cannot find the camcorder. If I put the camcorder on the photo function - the computer reads and correctly uploads the pictures taken.

  • Cpu socket looks strange-can be cause of boot problem?

Actual question: can cpu socket like on attached picture cause boot problems?
    tinypic.com/r/1pxnxs/6
(Some pins look strange while I am sure I did not do anything which can cause that)
(Sorry was not able attach pic, so shared on external site - blame android?)
I got problem with booting msi g33m motherboard, I tried various ways and was able to boot couple times, but after reboot the problem returns. When disassembly components for nth time, I noticed strange hole in cpu socket, so I wonder if it can be reason for boot problems? Currently fans run in ÷half speed when nothing connected to mb, if I connect gpu or sata drive, fans are pulsing, and led near power button on tower is blinking, but nothing more happens.

The pin(s) are bent it seems and can be carefully bent back to proper alignment most of the time using tweezers and or tiny jewelers/eyeglass screwdriver.
Yes the problem you describe can definitely be caused by poor pin contact with the pads on the CPU. Depending on what pins are bent or make poor contact there could be many different kinds of problems. In fact many more on newer ones with memory controller and other controllers in the CPU that used to be in the northbridge chip. If you or a friend, family member can't bend pin(s) back into alignment then possibly you could have a local jeweler or watch repair shop do it for you.
