Canon MP560 Communication Error has led to bigger problems

I have a MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.6, which has worked well with my Canon MP 560 for the last year or so.  I have occasionally had this "Communication Error" issue but in the past pausing the printer and then turning the printer off and on again has fixed the problem.
However this time round that hasn't worked, it just continued to say "Communication Error".  I came on here and I tried a number of solutions, I removed the printer from the Print and Fax section of systems preferences and then reinstalled the whole thing from the Canon website.
However now the printer isn't showing up when the setup looks for it, either on USB or wireless, and I can't add it back in on system preferences.  I have reset the settings on the printer and reconnected it to the network and it seems to be successfully connected however if I ping it it fails.  The blue wifi light is on.
I am at a loss....any suggestions anyone???

Given that you cannot ping the MP560 while its WiFi light shows that it is connected to the wireless network is a concern. It is also odd that you cannot see the printer when it is connected to the Mac via USB, although USB printer cables have been known to fail and cause this sort of result.
For the wireless connection, with the ping failing to get a response I would check the network settings in the MP560 and for your Mac. For most home networks, the first three sets of numbers in the IP address should match, while the last number must be different. The subnet mask and gateway/router address must also be the same. If the network settings for the printer and Mac are correct and yet you still cannot ping the MP560 IP address, then turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord for 10 minutes before turning back on again. With the power reconnected, try pinging the printer again. If this also fails then it could be that the MP560 is faulty and hence the issue you also encountered with the USB connection.

  • Canon MX340 wireless printer no longer connecting over wireless and coming up with "a communications error has occured"

I have a Canon MX340 wireless printer and have only recently started having trouble printing over the wireless connection. No settings have changed on my MacBook Pro, the printer, the router or the wifi connection and it is strange how it has just stopped working. I have tried things like restarting the laptop and removing the printer from the laptop and re-adding it. It sometimes seems to work for maybe one print but then it goes back to saying "a communications error has occured", when I try to print again.
Any help would be great. Thanks

I had the same MX340 problem.  My printer was working fine over WiFi connection to my Airport Extreme for years and then suddenly, about a month ago, it stopped printing after the first print job.  I can print once and then I have to power-cycle the printer to get it to print another time and then I have to repeat the power-cycle.
The printer seems to be "forgotten" by the network or lose its connection after the first print job.
On my MacBookPro 10.6.8 I get the error code 300...yadayadayad... On my iMac 10.5.8 it just says :communications error".
HERE IS THE FIX - I got it off this link - http://www.techsurvivors.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=24681
You have to connect to the MX340 using the printer cable that came with the printer (or any USB printer cable) and set up a hardwired USB printer queue.  Then print a couple of print jobs - I use TextEdit and type in "1234".  Then try the same thing but select your WiFi print queue - I just type another line on the same sheet of paper with TextEdit.
The WiFi connection should work again.  I did this a few more times and then disconnected the USB cable and now it continues to work without the USB print queue being used.  I can also print to the WiFi queue with my iMac.
If you still have problems I suggest you set up the printer again on the WiFi router using the "print cable connection" method.  Here's a link to a webpage someone kindly provided instructions for the process:

    Hi hthpggy,
To try and resolve the issue, please remove the power cord from the back of the printer and leave it out for at least 10 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it back on.  If the error persists, the printer will require servicing to resolve the issue.

  • Canon Pixma displays "A communication error has occurred"

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and a Canon Pixma MG 5220. Both are connected to a Linksys E1000 wireless router. I have had a lot of problems getting this printer to connect wirelessly with my MB. I have searched the internet for answers tirelessly and tried the suggestions that I found; however, nothing has seemed to remedy the problem.
I have set up the printer according to it's directions step-by-step. Using my CiscoConnect application, I added the printer to my network. I have entered in the network name and password into the printer and it tells me that it is connected. I used the CD that came with the printer to install the necessary drivers and add the printer. I have gone into my System Preferences and added the printer that way. Any time I try to print, the error message "A communication error has occurred" comes up in my printer queue. I have the printer added with the USB connection just fine, but it is irritating to have to get up and connect my laptop when this is a wireless printer. Once I have the USB printer added, I cannot add the printer wirelessly. All I see is "Bonjour Scanner." I have checked the signal strength, and it is fine. I have used the Network Utility to ping the IP address and it is fine as well. What is going on with my printer????

  • Communication error has occurred - Canon PIXMA printer

This was driving me nuts! I tried many of the other ideas offered in these discussions, but nothing worked. Sometimes my Canon PIXMA MP640 WiFi printer would work, usually it wouldn't.  I would get "A communication error has occurred" message on my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) and the print job would just stay in the queue until I deleted it. Most of the time I needed  to re-enter the network password at the printer BEFORE EVERY PRINT JOB which was a pain because the password was 10 characters long and I could only dial in each letter one at a time.
If you are having similar trouble, before you do anything CHECK THE WIFI SIGNAL STRENGTH USING THE PRINTER MENUS!  On my model, this was done by going from the Home menu to Settings->Device Settings->LAN Settings->Confirm LAN settings->Print LAN Details.  If the signal strength on the printout shows less than 50%, there is too much interference from other electronics in the area (or the printer is too far from the router).  In my case, the printer was in the next room, i.e., not too far from the router so I knew it had to be EM interference.
At first, my signal strength was showing 36%.  Then I moved the printer into the same room as the wifi router, within 7ft and directly in line of sight of it and it went to 62%. I thought it should be much higher, so I moved the printer to within 4ft and it went to 80%.  Then I unplugged the LCD TV (which was NOT turned on at any time) that was on the counter nearby, and it jumped to 90%.
After months of poking at this problem and finally resigning to the idea that the printer was broken, I tried this and now it works perfectly as long as the TV is unplugged.  I plan on moving the router away from the TV so I won't have to unplug it whenever I print.
    Hope this helps!

I've wrestled with this off and on with this printer ever since I got it. Just checked and my signal was at 44%. Guess that could be it!... guess I'll do some relocating of the router, boost the signal or run an ethernet line. Never though the signal being that low would cause this many print errors.
I thought is was just happening when the printer would go to sleep... or not used for a few days.
    Thanks!

  • I cannot print to my wireless Canon printer.  A communication error has occurred.

I have had no problems printing to my wireless Canon printer until yesterday.  Now when I try to print the icon at the bottom shows a printing job has been started but nothing ever prints.  When I open the print cache it tells me that "A communication error has occurred."  I've checked the printer and it is still set up properly.  I have unplugged my wireless router and modem to reset, but this has not interrupted my ability to access internet nor has it reset the printer to a different setting.  I am at a loss as to why I can't print any longer.  Since we bought the mac in July I haven't had any problems and this really has thrown me for a loop as to why it is occuring.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps one of the printer drivers is corrupt. Go to http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Support-Services/Drivers-and-Downloads (or other country download).

  • Canon mp610 communication error

I have a Canon MP610. I keep getting the message that a communication error has occured. The printer is connected with an usb cable directly to the imac.
I already installed the latest drivers from the website of Canon (10.42.3.0). It is possible to print, but scanning doesn't work.

Not sure if your issue has been resolved, but I faced a similar issue and the problem turned out to be that I was using two USB cables (one 6' and one 10' extension). Once I moved the MP610 closer to my iMac and used only the 6' cable, scanning was successful.
The strange thing is the two USB cable problem only occured on my iMac running OS X 10.7.2. Using the same two USB cables on my MBP and PBG4 running OS X 10.5.8 is not an issue.
    Good luck.

    Hello experts,
Visual Composer tells me in a pop up, that:
"A communication error has occurred:An XML element was malformed"
when it tries to call a Stored Procedure (SP). This is s.th. that happens only sporadically, i.e. I can trigger the SP many times and see that it executed correctly. Then, suddenly it doesn't work anymore, but when I keep clicking it starts working again after a while.
I checked that nobody has opened or locked my model, because I read that this can cause this behaviour in another thread.
What is the cause for this? What can I do?

  • Canon MP560 Printer Error

    Hello
I have used my Canon MP560 for over a year and it worked fine while it was in use, however, I put it away for several months and now I am having issues setting it back up again.
When I connect via WiFi, the printer stays offline ("The printer is not connected") - the blue light on the printer is on, and I have successfully connected to my network.
When I connect via the USB cable, I get a 311 error ("Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred. If an error has occurred, eliminate the cause of the error.").
I would prefer to have it wireless, but at this point, I'll be glad if it'll work via the USB!
Any help fixing this issue would be appriciated.
    Thank you in advance
(I'm running on Lion 10.7.1 on my mid-2010 macbook pro)

Based on the error message it sounds like the print queues have not been created correctly. So open Print & Scan and select the printer and remove it by pressing the minus button under the Printers list. Actually, if you have no other printers installed, I would recommend you reset the printing system. This will remove all printers from Print & Scan but not the associated printer drivers, so you will just need to add the printers again. The procedure for the reset is described below.
With the print queues removed one thing to note is that the USB printer has a different setup to the wifi printer. So if you do connect the MP560 to the Mac via USB, this should automatically create a new printer in Print & Scan. But this printer will not print to the wifi MP560. And the same applies in reverse, which is probably what you have right now with the 311 error.
If you don't want to create a USB MP560 and simply have the wifi MP560, then don't connect the printer to the Mac via USB and click the + in Print & Scan to add the wifi connected MP560. With the Default view selected, the MP560 should appear in this view, first as a scanner and after a few seconds, it will appear again showing canonijnetwork in the Kind column. Select this entry and the Print Using menu should change to "Canon MP560 series". If this does not happen, then download and install the Canon driver update that sig has provided a link to.
How to Reset the Printing System
Open System Preferences > Print & Scan
Move your mouse over the Printers list
Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    Restart your Mac

  • Canon 6100 Communication Error

    I have a Canon 6100 All-in-one printer/scanner.
When I first installed it (under Snow Leopard) it would often throw up a 'communications error' when sending a print.
Pausing the print, then resuming would make it retry and the print would go through. Annoyingly, this always required the admin password to be entered.
At some point I found a simple fix that stopped these errors completely.
After upgrading to Lion, it continued to work well, until a printer driver update appeared in software update. Following this, I'm back to communication errors and entering the admin password.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the simple fix. I'm guessing it's a permissions issue that's been overwritten by the updated driver files.
Anyone had a similar experience? I've tried googling for the fix without any luck.
    Cheers

I should add that the printer is actually a 6150
