Canon USB scanner

I thought macs were supposed to just work with stuff like scanners.
I have a Canon CanoScan N670U USB scanner and I plugged it into the Mac and nothing. It is supposed to get its power from the mac as well so its not lighting up or anything.
I've tried the USB ports on the rear and the one on the keyboard and no difference.
I also checked the Canon site for drivers for OS X but nothing stands out.
Any ideas?

That's right. the USB port on the keyboard is a secondary port that gets less power than the one directly on the computer. I've experienced this when using some types of USB flash memory pens. Some of them don't work when plugged into the keyboard but work fine plugged into the computer.
Your scanner won't work at all unless you have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for your particular model, from the Canon website. I have to say Canon (unlike Epson) have been very good at updating all their drivers for the latest version of OSX including Intel.
The one problem is that the Canon website is a bit of a labyrinth. You have to find your way through it until you've found EXACTLY the drivers you need for your particular model of scanner, in the correct language.
You may then find that there are actually TWO components you need to download: one to drive the scanner itself, and another to use it (this is called Canoscan Toolbox, or something like that). You'll need to install both.
Once you've done that you should be fine. Rather than low-powered USB sockets it's likely that you need these updated drivers.

  • Canon MP600 scanner not working - help!!

I have a Canon MP600 scanner/copier/printer. It's connected to my MacBook which I purchased in Sept 2007. I have 10.5.2 on my computer. Computer's HD failed after 4 months, then flex cable (BUS cable?) had to be replaced about a week ago. Scanner worked fine before 10.5.2 and the hard driver failing.
Scanner scans the document, but a screen pops up on the computer that says "Unable to save file. The system cannot find the path specified."
I've updated and installed all the drivers from Canon's website. I cannot figure out what is causing the problem, or how to rectify it?
Please offer any help you can. Thanks!

    Hi all,
I had the same issue with a Canon MP600. Printing
did work, but it refused to scan with scanner not connected
    message.
I updated all the drivers, no luck.
As a last resort, I changed the USB cable to a certified
USB 2.0 high speed one and it started scanning
I would suggest to try the following procedures:
    - find a USB high speed cable
    - connect just the mac and the printer
    - test
If it it works it might be the old cable or some
    interference with another USB device.
Reconnecting one at a time the other devices will
    be the final step .
If it does not work also after having updated the
drivers and standalone with a Hi-speed USB cable
I have no additional clues, sorry.
    Hope it helps

  • USB scanner permissions

    Okay, I'm totally confused.
I have a Canon Lide-30 USB scanner which I have used under Arch Linux many times--but not for 2 or 3 months. However, I was never able to configure hotplug to set the permissions automatically; I always had to become root and manually set the permissions in order to access the scanner as a regular user. Now, of course, the devices are all different (I mostly keep up with the latest release, don't really use testing packages, so I now have kernel 2.6.14).
    Here's what's happening:
I plugged in the scanner's USB cable after booting (my machine's been up continuously for a few days, so I would have to shut down to do otherwise).
Loaded the uhci-hcd module ... now /proc/bus/usb is mounted, and it contains a node for my scanner.
    Run sane-find-scanner as root:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x220e [CanoScan], chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:001:002
Run sane-find-scanner as myself: same as above
    Run xsane as root: OK.
Run xsane as myself: No devices found.
    # chmod 777 /dev/usbdev1.2 (which I think represents the scanner)
    # chmod 777 /dev/usbdev1.1
    # chmod 777 /proc/bus/usb/001/002
    # chmod 777 /proc/bus/usb/001/001
No change. I still can't access the scanner as myself.
By the way, it appears that the hotplug daemon won't start, though I'm not quite sure why. There are no files in /var/log/hotplug. In /var/log/errors, I see
DEVPATH is not set (subsystem pci)
But according to a brief Google search, this is not a serious problem.
    So what's the magic formula?

    Have you read this?

  • Can't scan from a networked Canon fb630u scanner

I run a linux server with a shared fully supported canon fb630u scanner through xsane,. Linux server configuration is ok, scanning from windows seven xsane-32 application works.
    This is the macbook net.conf
    connect_timeout = 15
    # localhost
    192.168.2.21
Ok, now running the command scanimage -L gives this result:
device `net:192.168.2.21:canon630u:libusb:002:004' is a CANON Canoscan FB630U flatbed scanner
So networked scanner is recognized by macbook...
But if i open Image Capture i can't see any devices neither in DEVICES nor in SHARED...
Moreover If i try to scan with simple command line scanimage all works!
    So where am i wrong?

First of all, even though you mention network scanning, I am not sure if you have the printer using the internal wireless support or if you have it connected to the USB port of the Airport Extreme. Some users interpretation of network connections vary. So if you do have it connected to the USB port of the Extreme, then scanning is not supported. This is a limitation of Airport devices.
If however you have configured the MP640 to connect to the Extreme via wireless and you are trying to initiate the scan from the MP640 to the Mac using the Scan button, then you need to have the [Canon IJ Network Tool v2.70|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0200080802.html] installed on the Mac.
Also, if you want MP Navigator to open when you use the MP640 Scan button, you need to install [MP Navigator Opener v3.0|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0200087801.html] on the Mac.
Note that for the network scanner, there should be a separate MP640 entry under the heading of Scanners within the list of devices in Print & Fax. With this MP640 selected, you will have the Open Scanner button visible in the right hand pane. If you click this button, the MP640 scanner window will appear and attempt to connect to the AIO. Does this occur for you?

  • Canon MX860 Scanner - Anyone Suggest an Mac Interface?

OS 10.6.2 sees the Canon MX860 scanner just fine, and places it in System Preferences>Print & Fax which requires a few key clicks to get to it. Can anyone suggest an "on the desktop" method to interface with the scanner? Can you make a shortcut to the Print & Fax list? I do not care to use the Canon provided software which appears to favor that other PC world.

Hello there and happy New Year. I don't believe there is a method to add a desktop shortcut for the scanner, at least via the standard user buttons. There is probably a way you can create a script via Automator that will open Preview or Image Capture and scan the document.
Personally I like the ability to start the scan from the AIO. If you have the MX860 connected via USB, you can configure the Scan Button to open Preview or Image Capture instead of MP Navigator. Then you simply load your document onto the platen or ADF, select Scan and then press the Start button. You will get an overview of your document and have the ability to select some scanning options before selecting the portion of the document you want scanned.
If you have the MX860 connected via wireless, I believe the same can be done but don't have a wireless model at home to confirm this (I have an MP630). I think this function requires the Canon IJ Network Tool to be installed and running on the Mac.

  • Canon 9000F scanner

Can I still use my Canon 9000F scanner with OS 1.7.4 Lion?  What drivers do I need to download and install?

The driver from Australia's web site will work for a US purchased model.
The ICA driver is also available from Apple. So when you connect the scanner to the Mac via USB cable, the driver will be downloaded and installed. Then you can use Image Capture to scan from the 9000F to the Mac.
If you want to use the film scanner component, I think you will need to use the MP Navigator application. This also requires you to install TWAIN scanner driver. Both are available via the link that @softwater provided.

  • Remote Desktop and remote USB scanner

Hello, We currently use NeatWorks to scan our company receipts and docs. Several of our employees access the NeatWorks database remotely, via a locally installed NeatWorks application, the connection we use to the file is the simple Finder 'Connect to Server'. Because NeatWorks is not networkable, we access it one at a time.
The problem is the Neatworks database is huge, it can take 20 minutes to load remotely.
Our solution to this would be to use Remote Desktop to access our server that has the application and database for a quick load. The problem is scanning.
Can Remote Desktop connect to the users local USB scanner so that the scans go directly to the remote database? If not, is there any other elegant solution to this remote scan problem?
We were hoping to find a networkable program to replace NeatWorks that wouldn't load the entire database, just an index perhaps.
Thanks a million for any input!
    John

Can the NeatWorks application on the server, see, connect to the USB scanner device on the user end.
That would not be a function of Apple Remote Desktop. The NeatWorks software would need to have code to access a remote scanner, either natively or using the Scanner Sharing feature of Mac OS X 10.6 (if that will support the USB scanner you're using).

  • How to install Canon LIDE60 scanner plugin & scan direct in PhotoShop CS4?

I just installed CS4 PhotoShop on my MBPro and can't remember how to install Canon driver for my Canon LIDE60 scanner so that I can scan directly from the PhotoSHop IMPORT menu? Can anyone please help? Thanks

I found out that I had installed the Canon drivers OK, I just had to download the Adobe Photoshop CS4 Optional plug-ins and ReadMe http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4047 and after a restart it all works fine in CS4, OS X 10.5.6

  • Unable to install a software driver for Canon film scanner on mac OSX 10.6

I am unable to install a software driver for a Canon film scanner FS4000US. I have downloaded it from Canon then open the package click the install and it asks for a location namely the Applications folder. Then it says it has been installed re -start etc, but still no driver.
I am using Mac OS 10.6. Any suggestions greatly received. I have repaired/disk and permissions and it still does not work.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation attempt, starting from the time when you launched the Installer or Software Update.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 and new Canon 9000F Scanner Not Working

Hi, folks I am pulling my hair out trying to get Acrobat to recognize the Canon 9000F scanner. I have downloaded the latest driver and still I am unable to get to see the darn thing.
The scanner works great in the Canon scanner software and other devices but not Acrobat.
When you go into Acrobat and do a Create a pdf and select scanner all are greyed out except custom and profiles, I have fiddled here with no luck.
I had a HP scanner before and all options where there and worked great.
Anyone know of any fixes for this?
    Cheers

The scanner is just a few months old and it has never worked with Acrobat. The scanner works great with other apps like Photoshop CS5 as a WIA device, it also works in Windows native apps like the Windows Fax and Scan application but not under Acrobat 9.4.2. I use Win 7 64bit system.
There is the WIA Canoscan  and a Canoscan 9000f listed and when you select either of these you get these messages.
also here is the twacker result with 2 entries

  • Has anyone managed to make the Canon 8000F Scanner work on this system?

has anyone managed to make the Canon 8000F Scanner work on this OX system?

Part of the problem is that this is probably not a "logical" error.  The common cause of this issue is still image files where the pixel size is too large. This suggests that Encore's (and other Adobe apps) ability to handle image size is exceeded without a better error message. The link, which I'm going to post until I find a "new" location (if one exists) is now a bad link:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/error-software-used-decode-media.html
And in this example where it was not an image issue, the user fixed the problem by re-encoding the problem file.

  • I upgraded my software to OS X version 10.9 and now my Canon MP145 scanner doesn't work, what should I do ?

I upgraded my software to OS X version 10.9 and now my Canon MP145 scanner doesn't work, what should I do ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There are two Applications folders: /Applications (in the root level of the hard drive) and ~/Applications (in your user folder).
If you have a look at the bottom part of the screenshot, you can see where Chess is stored, and it indicates that it's stored in /Applications, so you are looking for applications in the wrong folder.
Open a Finder window, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Sidebar, and mark Applications. Then, close the Preferences window and you will be able to access to the Applications folder in the Finder sidebar. Another option would be to go to View menu (on the menu bar) and type:
    /Applications

  • Canon 5600f scanner doesn't work with Snow Leopard

Please someone help - I made the mistake of upgrading to snow leopard. My new Canon 5600f scanner now does not work. Pop up says it has wrong driver. OK.. Downloaded EVERY Canon driver possible + the updated Navigator EX 2.0 software. Note I HAVE downloaded these files, specifically for this model of scanner, specifically for snow leopard: http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010652.asp. I have rebooted the mac about 4 times. Please, what am i doing wrong?!

    Pahu,
I too upgraded to Snow Leopard last night and have been having trouble with my 5600F all day. I'm glad I can still use the scanner in the Image Capture tool, but I would like to use the MP Navigator EX as well. I downloaded:
    Scanner Driver 14.8.2
    ICA Driver 1.1.1
    ver Solution Menu 1.4.0
    MP Navigator EX 2.0.4
    MP Navigator EX 2.0 Opener
    and On Screen Help 1.10
The download area for the MP Navigator EX 2.0 Opener reads "In Mac OS X 10.6, you will need to set up MP Navigator EX 2.0 Opener with Image Capture before scanning using the Operation Panel or Scanner Buttons on the machine."
I'm having trouble setting up the opener in Image Capture. The scanner still scans beautifully through Image Capture, I would just like full functionality back. Any suggestions? Thanks!
