If you are in the U.S you can use the newly released icloud beta version to get purchased music back.
Open itunes store, click Purchased under Quick links.

  • I lost my HD on my laptop, how do I get to the songs off my apple TV???

About two weeks ago my HD crashed. I had it repaired and now when I try to access my apple TV it doesn't recognize my computer. All my music is on the HD of the apple TV. How do I get it back?

This looks to be beyond my aptitude, but there may be a way to get your songs off the Apple TV without cracking open the case. Some of these folks are even running a full blown version of Tiger on their Apple TVs:

  • HT204406 Orphaned songs under old Apple ID

I bought hundreds of songs under an old Apple ID. How do I convince iTunes Match to make them available on iCloud with my current ID?

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that but it only reset the password for my current account. When I searched for the previous Apple ID (which is really a former email address) I got this message: "We were unable to find your Apple ID with the information you provided. Please make sure the name you enter here matches your account information exactly." So it appears that Apple ID no longer exists.
The songs in question played fine until I upgraded to OS X 10.5.8 a couple months ago. I could play both those purchased under my old Apple ID and the ones I have under my current ID without any problems. Oh, and to clarify, when I get the authorization prompt, I do enter my current Apple ID and password, but that doesn't authorize those songs that were purchased under my old ID. It keeps defaulting back to the defunct account.

  • Can't authorize songs under old Apple ID

I've run a search for this problem and found lots of other people having the same issue but I haven't seen a solution yet. I recently upgraded my eMac to OSX 10.5.6 and I'm now running the latest version of iTunes as well. However, the songs I purchased under a previous Apple ID won't play on my computer or transfer to my iPod or iPhone. It tells me to authorize the computer but since my old Apple ID doesn't exist anymore I can't authorize it for that ID. It's already been authorized for the current Apple ID. There's over 100 songs that are affected, and that's a lot of money. Is there any way I can get those songs back? Do I need to create a new account? If so, how will it recognize the new account belongs to those songs?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Cant get rid of old Apple ID

I am trying to get my iCloud set up on a macbook air (2012) as I am about to upgrade my phone to a 6 and want to make sure everything will sync correctly. I have updated to OS X Yosemite and that is all working fine as far as I can see.
I keep getting popup boxes on my screen saying "This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with [my old email address]. Open iCloud preferences to fix this problem " This refers to 2 old apple ID's I had (as I changed emails I thought I had updated them on the system but for some reason my computer is still registering the old ones not the current one). When I click on 'open iCloud preferences' I am not able to deselect the incorrect apple ID and put in the current one. There is only a prompt for a password that I don't know anymore.
It is worth pointing out that this is not a problem from the updating to Yosemite as was happening before I updated.
I have registered an iCloud account for my new Apple ID and this seems to be fine I just can't seem to get rid of the old one or these pop ups. I have read that you cannot merge ID's or get rid of old ones permanently.
My main worry is that in deleting the old Apple ID's I may loose music that I bought with those old ID's.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

    Hi,
I read the links you provided and this hasn't helped. I have already updated my Apple ID to my current email address and can log in no problem.
My problem is that I keep getting pop ups on my screen "This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with [my old email address]. Open iCloud preferences to fix this problem " This refers to 2 old apple ID's I had prior to the current one.
My questions was not how to amend my details (I can do that) but how do I get rid of this pop up and why is it happening?

  • Bought new computer- how do i get all my itunes song off old computer and onto new one?

i recently purchased a new computer and installed ITUNES on it.  Once I put in my APPLE ID all my purchased songs showed up (songs i purchased through ITUNES on my old computer).  Here is the problem, my old computer has around 800 songs on it from cd's that I owned and downloaded those songs into ITUNES.  Now i want those songs on my new ITUNES on my new computer but don't know how to get them there.  I have tried the following so far:
    - Tried syncing my ipod and ipad to the new computer but each time I do this the new computer ITUNES wants to wipe out the 800 songs and just put on the transfered purchases songs.
    - Tried 'home sharing'.  When I did home sharing with both computers on and ITUNES opened all the songs showed up on my new computer but as soon as I closed out ITUNES on the old computer the 800 songs went away on the new computer and it went right back to the songs I purchased.
Please someone tell me there is an easy way to take all these songs I have on ITUNES on the old computer and transfer them to my new computer and ITUNES without having to bust out all these old cd's and sit there and re-burn them all on the new computer.
I have in addition to this all ready authorized my new computer with ITUNES so that is good to go.  Any help would be appreciated...

Are they not on your new computer after you restored your iTunes backup?
    Didn't have a backup?
Unlike music you can download apps multiple times. Go to each app, download it (ignore the price) and after you click it will tell you that you've already purchased the app and ask if you want to download it again.

  • Can't download my songs under old Apple ID password from laptop

Hi guys, I had to upload all my files from my iPhone 5 to my laptop after having to change my Apple ID password after having problems from my old iPhone 4 after selling it.  Everything that I had purchased under my original Apple ID password including apps and all my songs cannot be downloaded from my laptop because iTunes is now under a new password. My laptop, iPhone & iPad are all linked together. It seems to be that if you change your Apple ID password you cannot re-download or even update original apps & songs that have been purchased.

I did not change my Apple ID identification, only the password.

  • Cannot play songs from old Apple ID

I had initially registered my iTunes with one email address and purchased a bunch of music. I have since changed email addresses... but certain songs require me me to login with my old email address. I used the same password with both accounts... but I still can't play the song.

    This page had some advice:
If the correct email address is listed on your My Info page, simply add a space after your street address to update your My Info account with your new email address.

  • Cant Redownload songs after comp died

    Hi,
I had several albums worth of songs downloaded to my laptop, which decided to crap the bed on me before i synched it to the ipod. I now have a new desktop, but i'm told that i'm not able to redownload the songs on my new computer. Obviously i have no way to get to my previously downladed copy of the songs, so what can i do?

    Good morning, Audemed.
If you have them on your iPod, you can make use of this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.
Other than that your options are limited.
Apple's policy is clear: iTS purchases can be downloaded only once. It is your responsibility to make back-ups . (For most people, this will involve either CD's/DVD's or an external drive .)
That being said, at their discretion they have made one-time exceptions to this policy. You can ask for an exception by submitting the form on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
Good Luck! But whatever the response from Apple, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!
    P.S.
If you want to get a bit of a "bigger picture" on back-ups, you might want to make yourself a cup of tea and have a look at this article on the PC World web site and this Microsoft support page .

  • New Nano! Getting songs off old ipod

I recently purchased the new Nano (PINK!). I currently own an ipod mini. I am giving the mini to my mom and keeping the nano. I want to put all the songs that were on my mini onto my nano, but I don't think it'll work. Is there anything special I need to do? I'm afraid when I hook up the nano it will completely clear my itunes account.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your music is in iTunes on your computer, then you just need to install the latest version of iTunes...

And connect your iPod up to your computer.

  • HT1848 Authorize computer with old apple id

How do I authorize my computer to play songs *purchased on itunes* with an old apple id.  That email account was compromised so I had to create a new one and I no longer remember the password.  Now, over 100 songs and books are not authorized even though I have deauthorized and re-authorized the computer with my new apple id (because I no longer remember nor have access to the old password - if it's even possible to sign into itunes with it still).
I purchased songs under old apple id for years. Since that email account was compromised and i created a new apple id for my itunes about a year ago. I had no problems synching back and forth on any old devices until I spilled water on my macbook last month and had to purchase a new one.  I went and spent all that money on yet another apple product only to not be able to download ANY of my old mp3 files to my new laptop.  Sigh.  So I had to copy from backup drive.  NOW I can't synch 100 of my old songs/books between new devices - even though others synched with no problem.  It keeps telling me that the computer isn't authorized to play them.
How can I work around this? Can I change the file type so that it does not need to be "authorized" by apple's ridiculous copyright rules in the first place?  It doesn't seem fair that $100+ in songs and books are completely useless to me even though I paid for them, purchased them through itunes and did everything I was supposed to do with apple products the way apple suggested (including changing my apple id).  Spent 2 hours on the phone with Applecare - no help.  I'm so totally frustrated by all of apple's inconveniences.

Yes, I do think they are ridiculous when it comes at the cost of my rights as a consumer.  I'm not trying to illegally authorize 10,000 songs.  I'm trying to authorize 100 songs and books that were synching fine until I purchased a new mac a month ago.
It should not be so difficult for Apple to verify that I am not a thief tyring to steal music - that I am who I say I am and did infact purchase this songs and books with the credit card information and address that I say I used. But for some reason after 2 weekends and literally hours on the phone with Apple - I get no help, no resolution.  For goodness sake, I ONLY want to snyc these files to my iphone!!!!  In the end, I'm the one who gets screwed. itunes gets my $100+ dollars, the artists get there royalties and I get nothing.

hi guys i have 2 ? 1 my daughters iphone is trying to update on my mac cant get it off help please ,,, 2 i have an old apple id and when i try to up date it keeps looking for the password how do i delete this old apple id help

    Hi.
I had a similar problem myself. This is what helped me.
I went to the App store app, scrolled to the bottom, logged out of the account, re logged in with my Apple ID.  Then went back to app updates. Once I put in my ID password all was fine.

  • I changed my apple ID and cant play movies/songs associated with old my old Apple ID.

I changed the ID associated with my itunes account, but now when I try to open any movies or songs purchased under the old ID I'm prompted to authorize my computer for the old Apple ID. I dont have access to the old email address and cannot remember what the password was for that ID. I even tried using my current Apple ID/password with no luck.

Your Apple id password is not necessarily the same as your log-in password.
The former is what you use to log-in to Apple services and sites. The latter is what you use to login to your computer. That does not change when you change your Apple ID password. Try the original computer login password.

  • My icloud account on my new iphone does not match the user ID for itunes as it is an old apple ID. There is no password for this ID so I cant change it and it wont let me change the apple ID. Any help?

my icloud account on my new iphone does not match the user ID for itunes as it is an old apple ID. There is no password for this ID so I cant change it and it wont let me change the apple ID. Any help?

To change to iCloud ID on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID then sign in with the new ID.  If you don't know the password for the old ID, and if the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
