Cant seem to RDP into Windows computer over VPN

Hi All,
I just installed KVpnc and imported a cisco profile (.pcf file) so I can connect to my office network. This worked great and I'm able to connect successfully. The problem I have is I need to RDP into my work machine (running Windows XP) but this doesnt seem to be working.
I installed 'pacman -S rdesktop) and from the command line when using the following command it just sits there with 'Autoselected keyboard map en-us'
[root@arch ~]# rdesktop myxpcomputer.company.com
Autoselected keyboard map en-us
I tried pinging the machine but that doesnt return ANY lines. Any ideas?
thanks
Hardeep

I don't believe there's a wikipage for it. I'll describe what I can remember from getting this set up originally here; if it turns out to be useful, perhaps I will wiki it up.
Run pcf2vpnc on your .pcf file; I saved the result to /etc/vpnc/mywork.conf
% pcf2vpnc mywork.pcf mywork.conf
At this point, you can test by:
% sudo /usr/sbin/vpnc /etc/vpnc/mywork.conf
Depending on how the VPN is configured, this should re-write your resolv.conf with the correct info for DNS lookups, and you should have a new interface (tun0 in the below):
[2011-01-20 13:41:35 alfheim:/etc/vpnc]
1083 vpnc % ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:22:68:3E:92:76
inet addr:192.168.1.3 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

If you can verify that the new interface is created and that some meaningful change has been made to resolv.conf (it isn't pointing to your router or whatever it usually does for the nameserver), then check route to see if tun0 is setup as your default route.
That should be the basic steps to getting it setup; however, in this setup note that all your traffic will flow over the VPN. Once you can confirm whether the above works or not, I can describe my setup in more detail if you'd like to "separate" your traffic between the VPN (tun0) and your usual network (eth0 interface).

  • Domain Account Can RDP into Workgroup Computer

    Hi,<o:p></o:p>
Domain Accounts are able to RDP into WorkGroup computer which is not part of the domain. The workgroup machine is in AWS.<o:p></o:p>
This happens when the domain username and its password copied as local account in the workgroup computer.  <o:p></o:p>
    Domain Name: DName<o:p></o:p>
Name of the computer that is in the workgroup and not in the domain: system1<o:p></o:p>
    Domain Account: DName\User1 Pwd: abcd<o:p></o:p>
Local System Account: system1\User1 Pwd: abcd<o:p></o:p>
As long as the domain account and Local System Account have the same name and same password we are able to RPD using the domain account (DName\User1).
If the password is different, this does not work.<o:p></o:p>
After RDP, when i run the whoami command the user shows up as system1\User1.<o:p></o:p>
Any info on why this would happen and how to fix the same will be highly helpful.<o:p></o:p>
    Thanks in advance<o:p></o:p>

    Hi there,
It sounds like you're still signing in as the local user, not the domain user. Even though you're specifying a domain name, the computer isn't associated with that domain. It will try to log in using the local account name, which as you mentioned, if the
usernames and passwords the same, will work.
Check in computer management to see if you have local users listed in there.
Why not add the computer to the domain?

  • TS1474 I have a friend who is moving to Australia she has been told that if she plugs her ipod into a computer over there she will lose everything on it. Is this true.

I am moving to Australia to live. Can I resync my ipod with itunes on a computer over there without losing everything.

Wait, is this for a friend of for you?  And yes, that is true. Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devicestab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software available to assist you with this task.

Ok, that is weird. Is each IP different and how many devices do you have getting public IP's.. there should only be one available and the only device getting it should be the extreme.
If you only need a bridged modem. go out and buy a cheap single port modem. (I presume this is DSL service. Sorry I am not in US, so what is obvious to you may need spelling out).
We often use the cheapest TP-Link modem here.. TD-8817 which are like $25 for bridged modem.. works really well.
I think also you will find as far as pc is concerned the 2wire is actually the better router. Apple decided to use NAT-PMP on their routers instead of near universal upnp used by all windows networking and just about everything else. That makes opening ports that much harder on the Extreme for games etc.
With the new version utility you can turn on guest network even with the Extreme in bridge.. and what you miss in terms of dhcp is not that great.
If you want to get it working, let me suggest bridging the extreme for the moment. I am sure you will find no issues with Remote Desktop direct through the 2wire, as you probably used it in the past that way.

  • IPod not recognized by iMac after plugging it into Windows computer by mistake!

    Hi there:
I'm hoping someone can help me fix my husband's iPod.
It is normally synced to the iMac computer, but for some reason today he decided to plug it into his laptop, which runs Windows (grrrrrr).
The library was erased on the iPod. He doesn't remember a prompt saying that if he went ahead, the iPod would be erased.
Now when it is plugged into the iMac, it doesn't even recognize the iPod; it appears on the desktop as an icon "No Name" and says it is formatted in MS-DOS. Can I get it back to behaving properly, like an Apple??
Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.
    kris

    Hello again:
I'm getting closer. I did erase and reformat the iPod as you suggested, and it now reads as a Mac OS X formatted iPod. However, I still can't get iTunes to recognize it. It did, one time - and I got all the prompts to restore it, but after several tries with the wrong password (aargghh) the window went away and I can't get it back.
I've reset the iPod; I've put it into disk mode; I've tried both my husband's iTunes screen and my own; I've restarted the computer several times; I've plugged the iPod in using a different USB port.
I'm hoping that you have some more words of wisdom for me, because now that I've gotten this far I refuse to give up!
    Thank you!
    Kris

You should not be paying for firefox, delete whatever the file is and run malware checks on your computer.
Obtain a proper version of firefox from say getfirefox.com for free and install that.

i have an iphone 4s with the latest ios 7.1.2 and have tried to connect it to my computer (which uses windows 7) using the usb port. However, when i plug in the phone the computer doesn't seem to recognise it. The phone buzzes as it still charges, i have checked and made sure i have apple mobile device support installed and have restarted it to see if it would make any difference. The device doesn't show up in the device manger under imaging devices or universal serial bus controller, i have uninstalled and re installed itunes and have the most up to date version. I just want to be able to transfer my photos onto my computer. Can anyone suggest anything?

I suspect whatever antivirus you're using and/or MacKeeper are causing the issues. I would uninstall both.
The "American symbol" is the keyboard layout you've chosen. You can remove it by going to system preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources > uncheck the box for Show Input menu in menu bar.

  • Add a config item to windows computer via powershell script

    Hello All
I am looking for a script which will add a config item into windows computer . I have some thing like this which will add the configuration item into an incident . But I want to add to a computer record in all windows computer. I think I am failing to find
the source for windows computer records
    $incident
    = get-scsmclass
    m.incident$ |get-scsmobject
-filter "DisplayName -eq 'IR8 - test'"
    $computer
    = get-scsmclass
    Microsoft.Windows.Computer$|get-scsmobject
    -filter "PrincipalName -eq 'test'"
    $relationship
    = Get-SCSMRelationshipClass
    -name System.WorkItemAboutConfigItem
    New-SCSMRelationshipObject
    -Relationship $relationship
    -Source $incident
    -Target $computer
    -bulk

I really don't understand what your are trying to do. do you want to add a new windows computer object to the database, or add an existing windows computer object to the list of related items on a work item?
if you are trying to create a windows computer by hand, i would recommend against it. there are much easier ways to get that data from SCCM or AD via connectors. maybe you could elaborate on your need?
If you are trying to relate an existing windows computer to a work item, then your script is correct. you just need to get the computer object in one hand, the work item in the other and mash them together with a New-SCSMRelationship around the correct Relationship
class. remember that About (System.WorkItemAboutConfigItem) is for the Affected config item, where as Relates (System.WorkItemRelatesToConfigItem) is for the related config items. an arrow affects the target and is related to the archer; don't get them confused.
the only other interpretation (and the one i find least likely) is that you are trying to relate two computers together, in which case the script is still correct, except, obviously, the relationship class should be System.ConfigItemRelatesToConfigItem,
and you would need to get a windows computer in each hand.
