Captivate 8 - Click Box Deduct Points for incorrect click

I am working on building a simulation assessment for a course I am working on. I don't want to use the hot spot quiz question due to the required use of the submit button. I have set up a simulation where there are 10 steps that are graded. The learner gets two attempts. If the learner clicks correctly the first attempt, I want to award 10 points. If they click correctly the second attempt, I only want to award 5 points. If they click incorrectly both times, they are awarded 0 points. I must be able to report the final score as a percentage to my LMS. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This seems like it would be tricky to do out of the box... (Although I could be wrong! Maybe the experts will know of a way )
I know Lieve's latest post talks about custom hotspot questions, but those have multiple hot spots with partial scoring, not a single hotspot with partial scoring based on number of tries: Custom Hotspot questions in Captivate 8 - Captivate blog
There is the Interactive Master Widget, but I've never used it so I can't say for certain that it would do what you need it to.
The problem as far as I see it (which perhaps you're aware of) is that any scored object will add to the total number of points and mess up your percentage. So you could have two smart shape buttons with one attempt each, one worth 10 and the other worth 5. The first is visible, but on failure hides itself and shows the second. But with that method you'd have 15 points total, not 10.
In the past I saw something where someone sent their own score to the LMS using JavaScript and then closed the project before Captivate could overwrite that score, but I don't know if that's doable these days. (Report Custom SCORM Variables with JavaScript | Infosemantics Pty Ltd)

We are using Captivate 5 and I was wondering if there is anyway you can remove points for incorrect answers? Say if you have a multiple choice question with 5 options, 3 of the options would be correct and 2 incorrect. Is it possible to give a -1 point if the incorrect choice is made and give 1 point each for the correct options?

No, that is not possible yet, same for partial scoring.
I have a workaround, using variables and advanced actions to achieve that. You can find some examples on my blog (http://lilybiri.posterous.com). But the issue is to report to a LMS. Trihan has found a solution for that, using JavaScript but I have not yet tested it out, trying to find the tiem.

Captivate 8 - click through buttons/smartshapes is incorrect

I have smart shapes that act as buttons on my slide, as well as an image button that is positioned in front (on top in the stacking order) of the smart shape (so it overlaps).
When I test and click the image button, it does not activate the image button action, but activates the smart shape action. As long as the smart shape is behind the image button, any click on the image button is being interpreted as a click on the smart shape instead. The screen design for the project that I am working on means I have no choice but to have elements like this overlap from time to time.
I have been getting this behavior consistently in Captivate for a while. Is this an active issue that the Captivate dev team is already looking into? Am I doing something wrong?

Having two interactive objects in the same location at the same time is a

Changing Quiz "Default Labels" for Incorrect Message for Captivate 5.5

Hi Experts,
I am trying to change the "default labels" for incorrect message for my existing Quiz slides. However, it does not get reflected. Is there a way I can change, e.g., the default label for incorrect message from "...press Y to continue" to "xyz" for my existing quiz slide and get that reflected.

You can change these default labels at Quiz settings > Default Labels > Correct Message and Incorrect Message fields.
However, you need to be aware that changing these label defaults will have no effect whatsoever on the Success and Failure captions that are already present in your project. Only new captions added AFTER the change will display the new text.

Is there a way to remove captivate swf click listeners?

Hi, this is my first time posting. After a lot of searching and no answers I figure maybe someone here knows.
Short background: I have a captivate Sim that is being loaded into a sim viewer of a courseware. The sim viewer has it's own directional pointers, feedback boxes, and instructional boxes. To get all of this working correctly has been difficult, and I'm using AS3, Captivate 4, Flash CS4, and export for Flash Player 10 for the unloadAndStop() command to clean it up when no longer needed.
My question: is it possible to directly remove the event listener that captivate is using to listen for mouse clicks? (and add it back when needed)
I have the correct/incorrect calling a Javascript. On incorrect, it is set to one attempt, but the javascript tells it to:
loaderPath.content.rdcmndPause = 1;
loaderPath.content.rdcmndGotoSlide = loaderPath.content.rdinfoCurrentSlide;
loaderPath.content.rdcmndResume = 1;
so, it does not really go anywhere when they get it wrong (kind of a rig for unlimited attempts with incorrect callback)
The sim I'm using requires that it can be "paused" in essence, with an opaque layer over it. The problem is that it STILL gets the mouse clicks even through this layer. I managed to create a conditional rig to fix that (a Boolean that when set to false, does not evaluate the javascript calls i get for correct and incorrect clicks). but I still have a problem where when the Sim is active, there is a drag and drop instructions box, and when it's released, it evaluates incorrect.
so, I'm sorry if that is confusing, but I'm basically wondering if there is a way to block captivate from getting the mouse click on an evaluation slide when you don't want it to?

That would not really solve my issue at all. I need it to not register a click for correct OR incorrect at a certain point in time (when they are dragging an information window and they drop it).
Say that I have a screen with a large click box on it, that is correct, and the rest of the screen is incorrect. If they just happen to drag and drop the information window over part of the correct box I obviously do not want it registering as the correct answer. I need a way to block all mouse click and release information from communicating with the Captivate .swf (but also the ability to turn it back on).

Can't embed a Captivate video (swf) into Power Point 2007

I am trying to embed an Adobe Captivate video (swf) into power Point 2007. I very carefully followed all the steps outlined from a search I did on the web and it is not working.
These are the steps I followed:
1. Create a simulation using Adobe Captivate and publish it as a SWF file.
2. Open the PowerPoint presentation and insert a blank slide for adding simulation.
3. We need to work with the Developer tab now. If you can't see it in the ribbon, follow these steps to make it visible.
(steps to get developer)
4.On the developer tab, in the Controls group, click More Controls
5. In the list of controls, click Shockwave Flash Object and click OK.
6. Drag diagonally to create a box in which the simulation would appear. Don't worry about sizing it accurately; you can adjust it later as well.
7. Right click the Shockwave Flash Object, and then click Properties.
8. On the Alphbetic tab, click the Movie property. In the value columnm type the full drive path, including the file name.
9. Set the Playing property to true, Loop to false and Embed Movie to true.
10. Close the Properties dialog and test the movie.
The simulation will now play in your PowerPoint presentation.
Note: If during the slideshow,t he simulation doesn't play automatically, right-click and select Play.
I followed these steps, and it is just not working. I go to play my power point presentation and set it to play from the beginning, and when it gets to the slide with the swf file, I just get a faded out still picture of the video, and it will not play. If someone has had luck with embedding swf files from Captivate into Power Point, please let me know how you did it. Thanks.

Thanks, I really appreciate the information. The only problem is that I have to keep it as a power point presentation. I convert from ppt to a video, so I need to keep it as power point.
I found these steps on the internet and followed them exactly, and went through the steps 3 times, to make sure I wasn't leaving anything out, and it just didn't work. I have a tech guy who's supposed to call me today regarding this issue, and hopefully he'll be able to go through it with me step by step to try and work it out.
Ultimately, these are going to be training videos that are going to be set up on a website, so they ultimately have to be saved as videos.
I'm keep trying to figure it out though.

CP7 - Show 4 (or more) decimal points for User Variable?

Is there a way to show 4 or more decimal points for user variables?
For some reason, I'm only showing two decimal points for user variables in Captivate 7.

Yeah, I was afraid of that.
Right now, I have am dividing the values of two separate text box entry fields. I have to calculate the values to determine if they are getting a promotion, lateral transfer or lower pay range.
I'll figure out a workaround or just use java.

Anchor point for cursor seems off

It's like the anchor point for the cursor is way off. I can click paint brush, and the paint will show up halfway across the page. If I keep clicking, the painted spot will finally show up under the cursor and I draw. If I move the cursor, and start again, same problem. If I enter text, the text willl appear so far below the picture, I have to zoom out so far, the the picture is a very small square. I grab the text box and move it back up to the picture, zoom back in and finish. If there is more text, I just duplcate the layer, so I don't have to go through the drill again. Example:

As for the text: You have a baseline shift of -1000 set and all your otehr values are whacky as well. Reset the type panel. The rest is impossible to make sense of. You need to provide exact system info. could be an issue with your mouse/ tablet driver, could be something else.

SSRS 2008 Column Chart with Calculated Series (moving average) "formula error - there are not enough data points for the period" error

I have a simple column chart grouping on 1 value on the category axis. For simplicity's sake, we are plotting $ amounts grouping by Month on the category axis. I right click on the data series and choose "Add calculated series...". I choose moving average. I want to move the average over at least 2 periods.
When I run the report, I get the error "Formula error - there are not enough data points for the period". The way the report is, I never have a guaranteed number of categories (there could be one or there could be 5). When there is 2 or more, the chart renders fine, however, when there is only 1 value, instead of suppressing the moving average line, I get that error and the chart shows nothing.
I don't think this is entirely acceptable for our end users. At a minimum, I would think the moving average line would be suppressed instead of hiding the entire chart. Does anyone know of any workarounds or do I have to enter another ms. connect bug/design consideration.

I was having the same error while trying to plot a moving average across 7 days. The work around I found was rather simple.
If you right click your report in the solution explorer and select "View Code" it will give you the underlying XML of the report. Find the entry for the value of your calculated series and enter a formula to dynamically create your periods.

What I'm doing here is getting the row count of records returned in the chart. If the returned rows are greater than or equal to 7 (The amount of days I want the average) it will set the points to 7. If not, it will set the number to the amount of returned rows. So far this has worked great. I'm probably going to add more code to handle no records returned although in my case that shouldn't happen but, you never know.
A side note:
If you open the calculated series properties in the designer, you will notice the number of periods is set to "0". If you change this it will overwrite your custom formula in the XML.

3X points for LG washer and dryer is false advertisement-- 5 months later I am still waiting

I have tried multiple attempts (at least 3 calls) to Best Buy service and have yet to get my issue resolved. I made anLG purchase of a washer and dryer on Octobe 6th 2014. The add said get 3x points so that made my final decision to purchase from Best Buy. 5 months later I have yet to get my 3X points. This is false advertisement. In all three of my calls the representative has apologized and opens up a case. I never hear anything back. I keep being told I got my 20% incremental points but that is not what I am disputing. The last time the represenatative gave me some points for my frustration but said someone would get back to me and that was back in December. Its frustrating as I really like shoping at Best Buy but am becoming very annoyed and really do not want to purcahse here anymore if Best Buy does not follow through with their advertisements. I do not have a copy of the ad (wish I would of kept one) but Best Buy should be able to verify all their ads. I certainly am not making this up. As a matter of fact, the salesperson at the store looked at the ad and confirmed that I should be getting 3X points for the purchase. Since I have tried multiple attempts on the phone with no success then perhaps this message might work better. I would discourage anyone right now in believing any of there reward ads. My time is worth more than trying to chase Best Buy down for points I am owed and will begin to make my purschases elsewhere. BEWARE customers as I am a very dissatisified customer at the moment.

To hear that you have potentially been waiting 5 months for points to post to your My Best Buy account, it is just really disappointing.
It will generally take 20 to 35 days for points to post to a member's account for a Magnolia or Pacific Sales purchase, which will start after any scheduled deliveries are completed. I looked over your account using the email address you registered with the forum and I do see that the base points for your Pacific Sales purchase have already posted. With that being said, it should just be a matter of confirming 3X points was being offered and whether or not your purchase qualified. It appears that your LG washer and dryer may have been eligible for 5X points, but it depends on which models you purchased.

I've recently received Shadow of Mordor, I had the game pre ordered, but I'm positive that I didn't receive the 500 bonus points for pre ordering. I can't tell if they're pending or what with the new system, and I can't report those points missing through the "report missing points" menu.

Missing points for several reviews

I have successfully received 25 points each for 6 reviews in the past. However, I have not been receiving any points for the reviews since then. Previously, the points used to credit pretty efficiently after I received an email about the review been posted. Now, I only receive the email notification about review being posted but no points are credit.
What to do?

System variable Quiz Score deducts points when lesson is re-opened (Capt 5.5 with Kallidus LMS)

I'm trying to get to grips with quizing and reporting, particularly complete/incomplete to check content has been covered. I've set up a small test file that awards 1 point to each 'Next' button. The project works well in the LMS when completed in one go and if the user exits halfway through (LMS does report correctly as Incomplete 50%). The problem occurs when reopening the lesson it shows the score correctly for a moment then deducts points.
I've also included a user variable in the project to keep score too. I've tried various options e.g. default data tracking, user can skip quiz, etc but the issue remains.
Pictures below illustrate the problem
First opened - Top score is user set variable, bottom is system variable cpQuizInfoPointsscored
Halfaw and re-open - Completed course to halfway and both scores on lesson both at 5. Shut down lesson and re-opened. The system variable showed 5 for about one second then went to 4 whereas the user variable shows the 'correct' score of 5.
I've looked at the debug file for the LMS and can see that it seems to be behaving as it should i.e calling for postion scores etc and they are correct. Any help appreciated!

There’s no recorded content, I just started a new blank project (so no leftovers from other projects either). The problem occurs in the Kallidus LMS imported as scorm 1.2 package.
Also, finally got it to work in 'Reload Scorm Player' and the lesson acts the same way.

Creating second InfoView entry point for SAP users in XI 3.1

Hi All,
I have BOE XI 3.1 up and running with the Business Objects Integration kit SAP Solutions kit I would like to create a second infoview entry point for SAP users on the same physical box (single server) as regular InfoView.
I am trying to mock this up and have detailed the following steps below. I suspect I am missing a few steps (for example, where do I specify the entry port?). I am sure step 2 is wrong, as I the desktoplaunch no longer exists in Xi 3.1
1. Copy the InfoView.war file to a new directory ( Program Files/Business Objects/ Business Objects Enterprise 12.0/java/applications/sap). I imagine I would need to rename the war file (say SAPInfoview.war)?
2. Create a xml file with the following logic (the part in bold I consider to be wrong...):

You've been working with Duncan and Sartaj on this. The client has two set of users: non HR which has no BW or R/3 authorization restrictions, and HR, which has authorization restrictions.
They have deployed SSO using AD for the non HR users. They also want to leverage InfoView rather than the SAP portal. For the HR users, we therefore need to capture the SAP id and password at login time to enforce security at the BW and R/3 levels. We could use the existing Infoview entry point (SSO will fail and they will be prompted for a SAP login). I do remember that we offered a second InfoView entry point for SAP users in XIR2. I thought this may be more elegant.
