Captivate 8 responsive project with advanced action to show/hide interaction

I'm finding that responsive projects in captivate 8 don't properly show interactions upon show/hide. Is anyone else having this issue and knows how to fix it?
I've tried to not group items together but the interaction still doesn't appear.
I've tried placing the show hide information into an advanced action instead (actually my project requires this) and it doesn't work, nor does it work like in the screenshots below.
I've tried to duplicate this in a non-responsive project and it works which makes me think this is only related to responsive projects.
Thoughts? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

I believe the problem is still present in Captivate but I've read a post on these forums that went some way to explaining what is happening and a possible workaround. The issue is in the method that Captivate writes HTML5 and the order in which it displays elements on the canvas. I had a quick look to try and locate the post but without any luck. The person who posted it did give instructions on how to resolved the issue 'relatively' simply by modifying the HTML5 code once you had published the files. I did say 'relatively' simple because this solution does require some knowledge of HTML5.
Sorry that I could not be of much more help and I do hope that my recollection of this possible solution is correct.

Captivate 7 - Copying slides with Advanced Actions

Hello,
I have a number of slides that I want to copy and paste into a new project. Many of these slides have click to display type advanced interactions. When I copy and paste the slides into a new project, the advanced interactions don't seem to copy over. Does anybody know how to copy and paste slides into a new project along with the advanced interactions so that I don't have to recreate variables and interactions? I tried following Adobe Captivate Help, but got lost.

Show image with advanced action

I want to show an image using using an advanced action from a question slide
I have inserted the image on the master slide because its a tick. And the question slides are in a pool.
Is there anyway to show this image? When I click show in advanced actions I get a list of images but none have the names assigned. They show img1, img2, img3 etc

EDIT- I think my main problem is that none of the images have the names that they were assigned. Why?

In order to use Advanced Actions to show or hide objects such as images you need to be able to reference the Item Name of the object. Objects on Master Slides do not have Item Names, so you cannot show or hide them that way. You need to place the objects on the slides themselves, give them a unique Item Name that helps you to find them in lists (e.g. change from img2 to img_Fred), set their Visible in Output to OFF, and then you can potentially use Advanced Actions to SHOW the images.
However, your next issue will be that on Question Slides you only have a few events you can use to trigger Advanced Actions. You can trigger an action via the On Slide Enter event of the slide, but that only applies BEFORE the user has answered the question correctly or incorrectly. The On Success and On Last Attempt events are the other events you can use and these fire AFTER the user has answered the question, but only AFTER the learner has clicked for the second time to quit the Feedback Captions on that slide.

Playbar blinks on iPhone in Captivate 8 responsive project

In Captivate 8, when I publish a responsive project, the Captivate playbar keeps blinking when I view the published project on an iPhone. Does anyone know how to make the playbar stop blinking?
I notice in the Gestures section that it says to slide up or down to view/hide the playbar. However, that doesn't work for me. When I do that, my presentation just gets locked into a zoomed-in view and there is apparently no way to get out of it except to close the presentation and start over.
Does anyone have any advice about what I'm doing wrong with the playbar or with gestures?

Turning off gestures helped ... mostly. What I mean by mostly is that it still blinks on my quiz slide when I have Hide Playbar in Quiz unchecked in the Skin Editor. However, if I check the Hide Playbar in Quiz option, the playbar blinks throughout the rest of the presentation, just not on the quiz slides.
Here are the stats you asked for:
Model Number: iPhone 5C (Model ME555LL/A)
iOS Version: iOS 7.1 (11D167)
Playbar: I'm using the cpPlaybarMobile with these options:
When I published a version with Hide Playbar in Quiz checked, then tested the quiz page on the iPhone, the playbar was gone as expected, but the action of selecting multiple choice options was exceedingly sluggish, then Safari crashed.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a bug that prevents me from using any Captivate playbar if the destination device is an iPhone, because it produces an unfavorable result no matter which combination of options that I choose.

What would be best - a quiz or buttons with advanced actions?

I have just got hold of Captivate 7 and am learning how to use it. I have been given a project which I think would work well with captivate but am not sure what would be the best thing to use. On a webpage before people submit a form do do with ethics, they will need to answer a few questions to see if completing the subsequent form is the best approach or if they should actually instead go to other committees or need to see websites or other resources.
So they will get simple questions such as, e.g. 'does your research involve x?' If the answer is yes they would then need to go to a different website or access a link to a resource (say a PDF) if they answer no, they would be prompted to answer the next question and so on until either finally being prompted to submit the form or by answering yes at any time go to other websites or access resources. There would be a total of maybe eight questions.
So for something like this, would a quiz be the best approach or would show/hide buttons be best?
If a quiz is best, would I only need to create a Captivate project with one page with a series of questions or would it better with a page for each question? I have not yet created a quiz so am not sure how best to do this and how the actions actually work and what space is required on each page of the project.

It is up to you, but personally I would not use question slides for this kind of 'questions'. Reason is that you have lot of branching to do, and need a lot of control. This is not a normal quiz. You do not need scoring, do you need to report something?
And if you choose for question slides: only one question per slide possible.

Problem with advanced action and a counter.

I got a problem on a project with a counter and advanced action.
I got 7 words (3 wrongs and 4 rights), each associate with captions that shows on click
When the students had clicked on the 4 rights (and their captions are shown), the 3 wrongs captions are shown.
variable:
v_count
on wrong words:
simple action: on click, show captions
on good ones:
advanced conditional actions:
1) IF 1=1, THEN show > caption and v_count = v_count + 1
2) IF v_count=4, THEN show> all captions of the wrongs
The problem is: (Only when seen in browser) when I click on 3 rights (and not 4), all captions are shown! I have tried to put v_count=5, but then nothing happens.
Really, I'm lost! Have an idea of what could cause that problem?

when designing responsive projects in CP8 (or 8.0.1.242) the standard behaviour is that changes on the desktop-version are heritaged / copied to the tablet and mobile view. So the desktop-view and desktop-options are the parent, tablet is the child and phone is the grandchild.
This is quite handy, but often one needs to approach the content development other way round: design "mobile first" and the settings done here should be transfered to the bigger screen sizes of tablet and desktop. Is this feature somehow implemented or planned?

Mobile first is usually the more important way when designing eLearning which shall be shown on mobiles. As tablets and desktops might not need too much of an adaption regarding font and image size, the screen size of mobiles is quite limited. Therefore it often makes sense for us to start from the mobile perspective and design the "basic needs" and then go up to tablet and desktop and think about what might make sense to be added to the additional space.

Can you define motion paths in Captivate 8 responsive projects?

I haven't purchased Captivate 8 yet. Just wondering, can you define motion paths in responsive projects?

Motion effects are not supported for responsive projects, motion paths have no sense.

My glossary made in a widget does not show up in captivate 8 responsive project. I copied and pasted it. What to do?

I reply to myself:
response projects are for me too complicated: either one function is working and excludes the other or reverse.
Buttons do work and the glossary not or the glossary works and the buttons do nothing.
Also powerpoints cannot be imported and other functions are also excluded (slide overs)
I like to work on the content, so it my course is very good to be seen on my Ipad in a non responsive way.
Also the helpdesk is very poor: no answers......
Nobody knows the right answers.
A bit disappointed.
I will wait for captiva 9, 10 and 11 before going back to responsive.
Unti now I will go on in the nonresponsive way: in doing that captivate is excellent

How can I use an advanced action to show a sequence of images by clicking on a single button?

I'm trying to make Captivate 7 project where I have several slides where images are revealed one after the other. I wanted to insert a button along the lines of click here for next image but can't work out how to write the script for it. The Adobe information is next to useless and I can't find anything which breaks down these processes from scratch. Any help appreciated!

You're a little early but help is on the way. There are a couple of new e-books being written about using Advanced Actions.

Your specific use case could be handled a number of different ways:
Have your images on different slides and use an identical button to jump to each slide.
Use Conditional Advanced Actions and User Variables to check which images have been viewed and then show the next image in a series. This would allow everything to be done on the same slide but is a more advanced technique that may be beyond your abilities until you are more versed with how variables and advanced actions work.

Question regarding use of advanced actions in drag&drop interactions

I have trouble figuring out sth in Captivate.
I am creating an exercise where the user has to drag specific waste items into the correct waste bins. What I want to do is to show the Next button after the user has completed the task.
There are 6 waste bins, 5 bins have two correct drag sources, 1 bin has 4 correct drag sources.
I have created 6 variables, one for each of the 6 waste categories, and given them all the initial value of 0.
If the user puts the correct waste item into a waste bin I have stated in the "action" under "Accept" for the drop target that the variable for this bin should be incremented by 1.
Further, I have created an advanced action that states that if var_waste_bin_a = 2, then the Next btn should be shown.
I had thought that each time a waste item is accepted into waste bin a, the variable should be incremented by 1 - thus making the Next btn visible when the two correct drag sources are in place?
Can anyone help me out on this? Would be much appreciated...

Thx a bunch for your answers, truly appreciated! Based on your tips I figured it out.
The problem with my advanced action was that it caontained the Expression var_paper = 1+1 ( I had thought that this would assign the value with 1 the first time the action was run, and then increment by 1 for each further time)
I changed the Expression to var_paper=var_paper+1 and for some reason this worked just as I had planned.
Not sure if I totally understood the logic, but it works just as wanted now

Help with radio buttons and show/hide javascript

Hi. I'm new working with LiveCycle and also pretty much at a basic/beginner level of javascripting. I'm creating a pdf fillable form and one of the tasks I've been given is to add a function where if Option A is chosen by the user, then the correspondng table will appear, and if Option B is chosen another table will appear. After some searching I Iearned more about how radio buttons can be used, so I created a set of radio buttons. I have tried several different things, the latest was making both tables "hidden", and then taking to the radio button list group and applying the show/hide script to each of the radio buttons in the group. Still nothing seems to be working as I want it to. The table remains hidden when I click on the . This is what the code looks like right now. I know I'm obviously doing something wrong, this seems like such a basic thing to code. Getting to the frustration point, if you can sort me out with what I am missing/overlooking please let me know. Many thanks!
Note. The radio buttons are not in the same table, they are higher up in the form outside of the tables that I am trying to show/hide, but they are in the same subform. I don't know if that might be an issue?

For starters you have unnamed pages, which is not a good idea. This makes it more difficult to reference objects. In your JavaScript you would have to resolve the node, however the simpliest route would be to name the page first. Something like "page1". Have a look at this example for referencing objects: http://assure.ly/kUP02y.
Next I would not place the script in each of the radio buttons, as this is likely to cause conflicts and is doubling the script. The best place to put the script is in the click event of the radio button exclusion group. This contains all of the radio buttons. You syntax for JavaScript if/else statements is potentially incorrect. The script within the statements should be wrapped in curly brackets. While you can get away with it for single lines, I would not be inclined to take that approach. So:

With the radio button exclusion group you can use its rawValue, just specify it in the Object > Binding palette. So on the basis of chaning the page name:

The above piece of code works when I don’t select show/hide link of Adv table and select custom ‘Update Parent/Child’ button that is placed at header(parent) level,
upon btn event it returns all the rows of parent and works fine. But when I select show/hide link and then select ‘Update Parent/Child’ button then only it return no of Child rows displayed (fetched) on page...
For example, If I have 100 child records of a set and only 10 child rows are displayed at a time on child region , then above code only returns 10 records,
Ideally it suppose to return all 100 values.
Can someone please help on this to understand why it only return 10 records not all 100 after selecting Hide show region ? and how can I fix this issue.

Advanced actions not working in project preview or publish

I have a project with advanced actions which work fine in single slide preview but which don't work at all in project preview or when I publish. To make it even worse a slide on the same project I did earlier works ok when previewed. Very confused! Any suggestions? I have used the force publish option and all the timelines look the same as the successful slide as far as I can see so I have no idea.

sorry for the delay in replying, I've been tied up elsewhere. I'm using CP7. My advanced action is simply meant to show one image after another on click of a button. It works perfectly for the first instance and then doesn't for the next two. The only difference between the slides is that the latter two have the images stacked on top of each other whereas the first slide has the images placed separately on the slide. This is the advanced action for the first slide:
The decisions just refer to the images. And this is the timeline:
Compared to one of the slides that doesn't work (no images appear)
where again the decisions are just referrring to showing images, and the timeline for this slide:
As I said they both look the same to me apart from the layering of images on the second slide. Any help much appreciated!

Query about User Variables and Advanced Actions

I am creating a clinical-based project using Captivate 5.I have to give you quite a bit of information before I can pose my questions so please bear with me.
Users have to select multiple options from a checkbox widget (shown below).
Each options, for example 'location' is associated with a variable for example 'hpi0' (See below):
Each option has addtional data associated with it:
Location = hpi0 (user variable)
Location data = hpi0data (user variable)
Please see the screenshot below:
Notice in the image above that I have created a conditional advanced action - if the user selects Location (hpi0) on the checkbox widget, the data associated with that variable will be presented to them. That data (e.g. location data or hpi0data) is presented in a caption text box in the following slide. (see below)
I hope I have given you enough information.This is a complex project and this is just one of my many problems.I have had to create over 200 hundred user variables and more than 6 Conditional Advanced Actions in one project. The project is becoming unstable. So here are my queries:
1) Are there limits to the amount of user varables I can create in a project?
2) If so, how can I re-use the user variables I have already created? Otherwise I will have to divide this project into 3 parts and I want to avoid doing that.
3) Are there limits to the amount of Advanced actions I can create in a project?
Again I am using Captivate 5 for this project.
Any assistance, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. I am learning captivate as I go so If there is away to streamline this process, I am open to any suggestions.

This is indeed a challenging project, and although I did create a lot of projects with advanced actions, they were never that size. You have to listen to Jim's words about using some widgets, he is a widget specialist which I'm not. I do not know if you are aware of the fact that the checkboxes widget coming with Cp was extended by Jim? He offers it on his website, I blogged about this extension and suppose you do know my blog. About the advanced actions, perhaps I could help but only screenshots are bit limited. So I wonder if either I could have access to the file and/or if we could have a Connect session eventually?
First intuition tells me
we should look to re-use variables, but I do need more information; do you need the vars XXXXdata somewhere else later? If not, perhaps only to display it you could use one variable; now you keep the information chosen by the user in 2 variables: hpi0 and hpi0data (isn't that redundancy?)
and by choosing labels for variables, actions and objects in an intelligent way reduce the editing time because you'll need a lot of almost identical advanced actions. Usually I do a lot of reflection before starting to create labels, variables and actions.
About re-using what you already constructed: as I explained once, a template is the only way to be able to re-use a script at the moment. And Kevin Siegel discovered (so gratefully for that) it is possible just to change the extension of a standard CP file to cptl to have a template.
