Captivate Glossary Issues

Adding information into the glossary widget seems to not function properly.  Depending on the number of acronyms I add to the widget, the resolution of the widget output changes (reduces) the more items I add.

I'm having the exact same issue. When I preview and/or publish the problem persists. The glossary is either distorted like it looks in the image above or the bottom of the widget is cutoff.
Not sure what to do - any help would be appreciated.

  • Captivate Glossary Widget - problem showing returns

    Hi all
Im having an issue using the Glossary Widget in captivate V 6.0.1.240
I am importing a .xml file (created from a large excel file) in to the glossary and once imported the content looks perfect. see attached there are 3 terms under the abreviation PPM each appearing on a new line.
My problem comes once i press ok after importing the XML.
When i reopen the widget or publish the file all returns preview as "/n".
This is not really ideal so i was hoping somone has a work around for this?
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi there
I have tried again with a much smaller xml file this morning as the one i have had over 1000 entrys.
I have the same issue when i have a return in the text. Here the definition for '3' is
    Text
    Text
    Text
again at first when imported the returns appear but after saying ok and reopening the returns are replaced with /n.
this is the actual xml i just tried if you want to duplicate my problem?
    <XMLBit>
        <term>
            <label>2.0</label>
            <def>info 2</def>
        </term>
        <term>
            <label>3.0</label>
            <def>text
    text
    text</def>
        </term>
    </XMLBit>
Im using a Macbook Pro OS 10.98.2
Problem also exists if i create a new project.
I have also tried creating a new glossary entry manually, the same thing seems to happen if i add a return in the definition section.
Do you get the same problem?
    Thanks

  • Using TOC as glossary issue

I am using Captivate 4 to create a glossary using the TOC feature (learners click on an item in the glossary and the definition appears). When I publish this file as a swf and try to embed it into another Captivate file which has its own TOC (not used as a glossary) the TOC s seem to be communicating and the TOC which is being used as a glossary changes the list of glossary items to the TOC listings in the file it has been embedded into. Does that make sense? I need to know how I can stop the two from communicating so the glossary remains as it is.

Please re-post if this is still an issue to the Business Objects Forum or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with your directly

  • Captivate crashing issue

My Captivate projects crash while I am working on them, giving the error message 'Adobe Captivate has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience'.  I am then unable to make any further edits to the projects: anything that I try to do, for example add a caption or add a slide, causes Captivate to crash.
We have tried a number of things to resolve the issue:
All my Captivate files are stored locally, on my C drive (where Captivate is installed)
The files that have been affected by this issue have been under 9MB and under 60 slides, well within Captivate's limits
I do not use animation or audio in my files, I only use the captions, highlight boxes, buttons etc provided by Captivate.
Tech Support at my office has provided me with a new 'barebones' computer which has only essential applications such as  Microsoft Office on it, to minimize any risk from applications not being compatible with Captivate
In preparing the barebones computer, Tech Support completed the steps that Adobe Support provided in the Tech Note below:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404171&sliceId=1
    We have reinstalled Captivate
Has anyone encountered this issue or have any idea what it could be?  I wonder if any of the 2 things below might be an issue:
    1) I use dual monitors at work - so I capture my screenshots for Captivate on one monitor while Captivate is open in the other monitor.  Additionally, the monitor where I capture my screenshots is at a lower resolution (1024 X 768) than the monitor where Captivate is open, since my computer's standard screen resolution is too high for screenshots.  Could this be causing problems?
    2) I copy and paste slides, captions, buttons etc A LOT within and between different projects.  Although each of my projects is small, I have about 20 projects so far, 7 of them are affected by this issue.
We have had this issue for a month now and not sure how to proceed, any insight would be greatly appreciated .
    Thanks,
    Fereshteh

I use Captivate 3, and I use a dual screen. My resolution is the same on both screens however. I don't have any of the problems you are describing.
I also copy and paste between projects alot, and have 2 instances of Captivate open to do this. Once again, no problem.
Sorry I can't help, but you may want to let us know what version of Captivate, Windows, Flash Player you are using.
    Cheers,

  • Windows 7 32-bit / Captivate 4 issue

    Hi,
I just installed Cap4 onto my new Windows 7 notebook. Cap4 starts oke when I run it but when opening a cap4 file it 'freezes'.
The preview indicates the project is blank and has 0 slides. The document's path is displayed on the left bottom corner of the screen but nothing happens... I have this issue with all Captivate proejcts who normally run on Windows XP.
I already tried to run the program as an Administrator and tried several compatibility settings.
    Who can help me?
    Cheers,
    Danny

Help with what?  The Win driver won't do anything for you as the iPhone itself does not support any bluetooth protocols that can be used with it.

    Best regards

  • Captivate 8 Issue with IOS Safari

Hi I'm new on here and have been searching for a resolution to a HTML5 issue.  I published a course in both Flash and HTML5.  Flash works great, but when I access the LMS and it launches the HTML5 version for mobile I get different issues.  I've tried both SCORM 1.2 and 2004, but same issue.
The course is very simple and provides users reference information through user directed clicking.  There are a few voiceovers, but no effects and no quizing.
In Iphone6 it goes through a few screens and then freezes up and must reload(not always same screen).
In iPad-mini it freezes up on first or second click(regardless of screen) and must reload.  It's like it's timing out or something.
Any help would be appreciated.  I saw somewhere about turning off clicks sounds.  Don't know if that could be it, but I can try.
    Thanks,
    Corey

    Hello Corey,
I have been trying to work on this issue, but I haven't made much progress
Breaking up the project into several small chunks seemed to help for the iPad, but it's not ideal.
I'm seriously struggling with Android tablets though.  Android doesn't support flash anymore, as HTML5 is the "future". Google Chrome on Android tablets has problems with synchronizing animations and sounds cutting out (works fine on a desktop or notebook).  FireFox on Android didn't have the sync or sound issues, but it crashes at random times. I think the root cause behind all this is HTML5 and the browser.  I couldn't figure out the difference between chrome on desktops and notebooks -vs- tablets.  I went to html5test.com and compared the two browsers, and there is definitely a difference between the two browsers.
When you look at authoring alternatives to Captivate, it seems like their customers are having similar issues.
I'm still looking for a workaround.  I'll let you know if I find anything

  • Captivate 6:  Issue with clickbox opening URLs

I've finally made the leap for an actual client project to 6.0 (usually only do client work on 5.5) and am gutted to have run into quite a perplexing issue. It's a bog standard piece of work.  Simple conversion of a client storyboard (all their ID) into a captivate module.  There's no audio.  It has a couple of widgets in it to allow playing of hosted video and drag and drop games and a pile of advanced action stuff, but nothing exceptional.   Client has no LMS, but is hosting it on a sharepoint.   We've set it up so you can only get to the screen the 'click to start next module' once you've completed the module (the client's request).
No issues at all in our development testing.  No issues in our small group user testing.
We've now gone to our final user testing (about 30 users in various locations worldwide) and four of them have the same issue:
    - They click on the button at the end to launch the next module and nothing happens.
It's very frustrating for me because I can't replicate the issue at my end, and because of the way the contract is set up I'm not allowed on site, nor to contact users directly, so am having to trouble shoot via email with single point of contact middleman.
It is a simple click box, with an open URL function.     It works fine for me.  It works fine for 26 out of 30 users.  It point blank doesn't work for 4 out of 30.
It's a SWF output to flashplayer 10.     All users have IE7+ and Flashplayer 11+
I've rebuilt the clickbox slide from scratch once.  It is on top.  It works for me.   It still doesn't work for this small number of users.
Undertandably, the client is reluctant to go-live to 800+ global users with that kind of test fail rate.  (Weirdly all the risky stuff like the video and the drag and drop works fine on the affected users!)
    Yikes!  Any ideas?

Hi Rod, thanks for the reply.  Like I say in the post because of the way the contract is set up (I'm arms-length subcontracting for the physical training provider) I'm not allowed on client site, nor to contact users directly, so am having to trouble shoot via email with single-point-of-contact middleman.)  The arrangement is every bit as frustrating as it sounds, but is what it is.
So I am taking their word for it.
That said, I've no reason to doubt them as the same issue has been reported independently from different physical locations, and all the test users will have managed to find their way sucessfully through far more complex functionality before they get stuck at that point.
I know that from time to time when you run flash locally you can have problems launching URLs unless local flash player settings are updated to allow it - is there any network level equivalent that a company (or even local machine) may have in place that could cause the same behaviour?   Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

  • Captivate 4 - Issue viewing exported PDF in published file on LMS

I'm working in Captivate 4 and have included a link to a PDF document on a particular screen. It works beautifully when I view the published file until I move the files into the LMS - at that point, the PDF won't launch.
Here's what I've done and hopefully someone can tell me what I need to do differently?? I created a click box on a screen and have set the On Success field to "Open URL or file". I browsed to find the location of my PDF and clicked the drop down arrow to select "New" and "Continue playing project" (so the learner can return to the original course when they're done reading the PDF). When I publish the file to Flash, I select the "Export PDF" option and it does it's magic. When I preview the published version, everything works beautifully, the course runs, the PDF launches and life is good. Then, I set up the course on our LMS and copy over the published files (including the source PDF). The course plays as expected until the learner clicks to view the PDF - at that point, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Does this have anything to do with Adobe Reader 9 (which many of our learners wouldn't have on their desktops)? Do I need to convert my PDF to HTM? Help... please!

    Hello,
If I do understand your question all right (sorry, am not a native English speaker), I do believe you are mixing up two things. If you want indeed to publish to PDF (and not to SWF or EXE), you'll get a multimedia PDF (in which a SWF can play) but in that case the user really do need the Adobe Reader 9, previous versions do not support multimedia PDF.
What seems a bit contradictory is that you start with mentioning an issue with a PDF that should be called from a CP-slide. The problem there could be that you were linking to an absolute path on your PC when browsing, can you check that? If you introduce simply the name of the PDF and you make sure that the PDF and the CP-published files (normally HTML, JS and SWF) are uploaded in the same folder, the CP will find the PDF. I think you now have a 'broken link' because of an absolute path reference for the PDF.

  • Captivate 6 Issue: Swapped or Removed Graphics

I have a Captivate file with 163 slides. This is for an online tutorial for software, so is very interactive.
I keep the file on my desktop, as it became clear that Captivate does not play well with our network.
I am the only one who opens and works with this file.
Monday, I worked on the file most of the day to fine tune interactions and audio.
Tuesday, I opened the file and found that I had several slides with missing graphics, and on other slides the graphics that were showing were from other slides. There is no possibility that I put those graphics on the slides, as they were completely out of context, as well as sequence. I checked a previously published version (.exe), and the graphics were correct on that version.
This has caused me a lot of rework, and I have had to tell my client that there is a delay in delivery due to technical issues. This damages my reputation.
Has anyone seen this before, and is there a fix that would restore my confidence in this product?
This issue makes me wonder if I should be using a different product. I can't afford not to trust the software that I am using.

  • Captivate Bookmarking Issue - Returns to Wrong Slide!

I have a Captivate course with over 270 slides divided into 7 sections. There are 3-4 quiz questions at the end of each section with a score page on the second last page.
when through the course and exiting, bookmarking works until you get around half way through, at which point bookmarking returns me to a slide about halfway through the course. Ive made various version trying to rectify this, and at times it was a quiz slide, other times a standard slide. I tried moving all the quiz questions to the end of the course, and bookmarking would return me to a specific quiz slide each time. This bookmarking issue would appear when I existed the course after not completing it, or completing it and failing the quiz. Has anyone experienced this or got an idea what might be causing this?

What version of SCORM are you publishing to?
The bookmarking info is held in the suspend data, along with quiz info and all variables in the project. It could be that the suspend data has reached it's limit. Or it just can't handle that many slides.
There are ways to manipulate the bookmarking in CP as I wrote in this blog:
    http://www.tlcmediadesign.com/blog/2015/01/controlling-captivate-bookmarking/
This probably won't help your situation though. Depending on the SCORM version you can use the comments field to store info and use that to bookmark.
With a project of that size and depending on the info you need to tract/save, it would be best to connect a non-Captivate SCORM driver and make a SCORM calls yourself..
Or you can split the course into 7 separate SCO's to reduce the suspend data.

  • Captivate 6 issue. Exits and says not complete/issues with videos too

I use Captivate 6 on a Mac and I publish to SCORM 2.0. Previously we used Captivate 5.5 on a PC and had no problems at all.
Our e-learning portal provider (World Manager) does not support questions when created in Captivate, so we have always added questions on at the end via the e-learning portal to register 'compete'. This has worked 98% of the time (mostly within 5.5), but occasionally seems to have the following issues:
It can exit if there is a video inserted (this is sporadic at best - some modules are happy with vids, others are not)
It exits and says 'not complete' rather than going into the questions - again this is sporadic, and works for some modules and not others.
All modules have been created from ones that previously worked. Content activities and copy/images would be the only changes - no back end/exit commands have been changed. We seem to have the most problems with Cap 6. I previously installed a patch sent to me from Adobe to fix the issues I had previously with Flash files (this did not fix it either).
I am utterly at a loss and seem to have tried everything. Please help!
    Thanks, Jen

  • Captivate 5 - issue with editing imported PowerPoints that have been resized

I'm having an issue with editing PowerPoint files that have been imported into Captivate 5 when they have been resized within the Captivate project after the initial import.
    1. I import a PowerPoint presentation into 800x600 dimension.
    2. I resize the project to 900x600 by not locking the aspect ratio and selecting to position to the top right so there is a 100 pixel strip to the left of the slide that we use for navigation buttons and other info.
    3. If I need to make a change to a PowerPoint, I select Edit > Edit with Microsoft PowerPoint > Edit Slide (or Edit Presentation).
    4. The slide opens in PowerPoint and I make the changes and click Save.
    5. When the slide is imported back into Captivate, it is stretched and resized to not fit either 800x600 or 900x600, but something in between. This did not happen in Captivate 4 - the slide would retain the 800x600 dimension slid over to the right with no issues.
Are there any settings that can be done to ensure the edited slides will import back into the project with the correctly sized dimensions for the current project?

    Hi there
I agree that it would be nice to see a notification. You know, Captivate offers a special area for notifications that appear when you open it. I'm stymied as to why Adobe doesn't use this area for making such announcements.

  • Captivate 8 - Issue opening PowerPoint files

I am having an issue opening PowerPoint files with Captivate 8. I am running Captivate on the latest version of OSX on a Mac. And I keep getting a very specific message that states the PPT file is corrupted or outdated. Here is an image with the exact wording:
The problem is all my PowerPoint files receive this message when attempting to upload them into Captivate 8, and some of PPT files were saved using PowerPoint 2013. Both of which, lead me to believe that this is not a damaged PPT or an outdated PPT issue. Can anyone help with this one?

    Hi Austin,
Is the issue specific to a particular powerpoint file and other powerpoint files are getting imported properly ?
If yes, can you please email the problematic powerpoint file to me at [email protected]
If the powerpoint file size is huge, please upload it to dropbox.com and email me the download link at the above mail id.

  • Captivate 7 Issue

I have successfully recorded MANY presentations with an audio over PPT and converted to a MP4, FLV, etc.  However today...when I click record audio on a slide, it will allow me ot record for that one slide and then NOTHING. I am stuck. There is no "save" button below, etc. I can edit the one recording, that's it.  I have tried everything possible. It seems broken????
I have never had a problem like this and I am forced to just "QUIT" the captivate system,, nothing else is available-- all others drop downs are greyed out.
