Captivate SCORM html5 in Moodle 2.5.3 failing

Hello,
I am working on some videos in Captivate and published them in SCORM HTML5 for Moodle 2.5.3. I tested them with SCORM Cloud and the passed the test. However, when I uploaded them in the moodle, I can only see the content in IE, but some of the videos are presenting an error in Chrome (text boxes and some objects don't show in the screen). To solve that, I had to merge the objects to the background in Captivate creating a new merged version (preserving the editable one), not the best solution. In addition to that, the videos don't play well in iphone 4s IOS6 and ipad 3 in Safari nor Chrome. When I can finally log in in the mobile device, the screen crashes and closes unexpectedly, and when I try to access it again, it logs me out from the moodle e-learning environment. Can please someone help? We chose Captivate in SCORM HTML5 for the client so they would access the training content in mobile devices and that is not working.
Thanks!

Moodle 2.6 has improvements that make it display better on Mobile devices (and is generally better) earlier versions of Moodle should still display HTML5 content but not very well when using a Mobile device. I'd definately reccomend testing your packages with Moodle 2.6 to see if it helps but I'm not aware of a specific issue that would cause the described behavior above.

  • Moodle + Firefox/Opera + Captivate SCORM = trouble

I'm using the Moodle LMS (version 1.8) and created a few
SCORM packages with Craptivate 2 to test. When using Firefox
(version 2.0.0.4) or Opera (version 9.21) the problems start. Under
Firefox I get partial tracking results and the course never gets
listed as completed. When using Opera I get absolutely nothing, no
scores, not completion, nada, nichts. As soon as I make use of the
dreadful Internet Exploder, stuff works like one would expect.
The question of the day, are the Craptivate 2 packages
crafted in such a way as that the accompanying .js and .html files
are one of these "IE only" deals? It for sure isn't Moodle as it
    never fails when using IE.
Anyone can shed some light on this?

    Hello all,
I've got an explanation to this issue with firefox, but no
    solution.
I've noticed the same problem with a LMS: the final score was
not sent, and sco stayed at failed status in my sample.
When I log the dialog with the API scorm and I notice that
the calls to SCORM API are slower with Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 than
    with IE.
So slower, that the Captivate ends, but the LMSSetValue calls
was still going during several seconds, with any waiting
    instruction to the learner.
The learner ends the Captivate before it has time to send all
SCORM data to the LMS. As the "completed" status is at the end, it
    stay at failed status.
Here the log with my sample:
Each call to SCORM API is logged, with the time.
We notice more than 250 milliseconds each LMSSetValue.
    At the begining:
    16:32:02.884 LMSSetValue : cmi.core.session_time, 00:00:05
    At the end, before exiting:
    16:32:20.619 LMSSetValue : cmi.core.session_time, 00:00:15
    16:32:20 - 16:32:02 = 18 seconds, but in fact only 00:00:15 -
00:00:05 = 10 seconds spent. So => the sending of SCORM data
takes 8 seconds late compare to Captivate duration.
If I wait before clicking on Exit:
    16:32:26.150 LMSSetValue : cmi.core.session_time, 00:00:29
    The complete log:

  • Looking for a SCORM Player or LMS to run Captivate SCORM content (in place of Blackboard 9.1)

    Greetings,
    Background:
We are trying to run Captivate produced SCORM 1.2 in Blackboard 9.1 and are running into several problems (See http://discussions.blackboard.com/forums/p/49773/152443.aspx Please post any solutions to the problems described in that thread in that thread rather than here).
One of the options we are considering is playing and tracking our SCORM content in a separte LMS or with a different SCORM player.
    The question:
Can anybody recommend any (ideally free) LMS or SCORM players that have been tested to work with Captivate CS5?
    Many thanks for your help.
    Andrew Downes

Thanks, that's helpful. Moodle looks like an option then; the challenge will be finding a way to integrate the Moodle SCORM player with Blackboard.
What other LMSs or SCOPRM players are people using successfully (or unsucessfully) with Captivate? is anybody else using Moodle?
I'm espeically keen to hear from anybody who has found a free SCORM player and integrated it with their LMS/VLE and got it to play and track captivate content well. Has anybody tried integrating the Reload player with thier LMS and running a Captivate SCORM?
    Thanks.

  • How do I upload a captivate 6 presentation into moodle 2

how do i load a captivate 6 presentation into moodle 2

Hi Macot, Here is the solution for your question.
First you need to Publish your Captivate 6 presentation into SCORM 1.2.
Then compress it into zip format and create a new course in Moodle.
Add SCORM activity to it and upload the zip file.
Here is a webinar that you may find it helpful to you. Have a look on it.

  • Import ppt and output should be responsive and Scorm Compliant for Moodle

I am working in  Adobe Captivate 8 for the first time. The input for my project is ppt delivered to me by the client and the requirement is to get the output that is both Responsive and also has Scorm functionality for moodle. Can you please suggest the best practice for this requirement

Lieve is absolutely correct she doesn't post if she not sure of the answer and to just to concur with her there is no other way to import with PP into a responsive. You must start from scratch by copy/paste or importing the objects onto each slide and then size and position them accordingly. You can use Master Slides to create your own responsive theme (you always have to start with one of the themes but you also delete all the objects that come in one of the in the Master Slide and customize it any way you want but you have to know about sizing and positioning so that if fits on all size devices responsively.

  • Captivate 4, FLVs and Moodle

    Hey folks,
I know this has been discussed in a couple of other discussions, but even after following all the advice, I am going insane and have wasted 10 hours and counting...
The issue is that I am producing SCORM actvities for Moodle:
    1. Creating an activity in Captivate 4 - no probs
    2. Importing as an activity into Moodle - no probs
    3. Playing in Moodle - no probs except for the FLVs do not show up. No error message, just a blank screen where the video should be
I have tried all of the following, and it has not helped:
    - Used relative paths, in fact, kept the videos in the same folder as the swf for safety (ie, in Captivate, the path is just "video.flv").
    - Tried absolute paths as well as paths to a server URL
    - ensured no special characters in video name
    - ensured meta data present in video
    - set the MIME type on the server
    - confirmed that all file uploaded and unzipped successfully
    - Tried it with Moodle filters enabled and disabled
    For additional sanity:
    - submitted to SCORM Test Track - I can see the video there
    - played the swf directly from my server - I can see the video there
    Argghhhh! Any ideas?
    Thanks, Chris

I can appreciate that not being able to get your FLVs working after spending so much time is very frustrating.
My suggestion for debugging this is to try and see what path the server is looking at when trying to find and serve up the FLV video.  You could try downloading Charles (http://www.charlesproxy.com/download/) and use this to try and view the actual file path of the request for the FLV when called.  If the file path is correct, then your issue may be related to security permissions.
Have you set up a replica Moodle TEST environment on your own development machine?  Does the same package and FLV work when you test via Localhost?  If it does, then my bet would be some restriction in the setup of your production Moodle server or the web server it's running on, or permissions on the folder where the FLVs are being served from.

  • Captivate 4 projects and Moodle don't communicate

    Hi,
I am struggling with getting my captivate 4 modules to talk to our internally created LMS and also with Moodle.
With my captivate3 modules, I did not have any problems.
Are there certain settings that I have to use?
Do I have to adjust some file manually?
It would be great if you could help.
    Cheers, Helga
PS I will attach my mini test file, just in case that might help with my issue.

    Helga,
Although Michael is right, it could be a problem with the Moodle install, if you're publishing to SCORM 2004, I've heard others have issues with SCORM 2004 with Moodle as well.  SCORM 1.2 support seems to be pretty solid, so unless there is a contract requirement or burning reason to use SCORM 2004, 1.2 works in the vast majority of cases just fine, is easier to deal with, and more consistently supported between most current LMS vendors.

  • Issue with TOC overlaying MP4 embedded video in Firefox (Captivate 7 HTML5 output)

Only in Firefox, I am coming across an issue when I have a video embedded on a slide, the overlaying Table of Contents displays but is not clickable. This is both when the video is paused and playing. The TOC comes over the embedded video area on the slide. I have considered it is possibly a z-index issue with Firefox, but really need a workaround.
    Firefox 28.0, Captivate 7 HTML5 package, MP4 video

    Hello Kris,
Please check your output in other browsers like Internet Explorer and Google chrome as well.
HTML5 output from Captivate is tested and supported only on below browsers
    Internet Explorer 9 or later
    Safari 5.1 or later
    Google Chrome 17 or later

  • Can Captivate Scorm results be saved locally

Can Captivate Scorm results be saved locally for later upload to an LMS? For example, is it possible to download a Captivate course on a mobile device. Allow the course to be completed offline and store the results. Then later connect online with an LMS and upload the saved results.

"download a Captivate course on a mobile device"
So then it would be an App, right?
There's no way to do that yet. SCORM requires a live connection to the presenting HTML page, it doesn't allow for offline tracking.
    The TinCan spec:
    http://scorm.com/tincanoverview/
Will allow for this type of offline communication. I assume Adobe/Captivate will support it at some point, but its a new spec and such support is still evolving...and the support has to be between the Captivate lesson AND the LMS (or 'LRS') the lesson is reporting to.
For now, the only option for you to have a web-based CP lesson track to an LMS is to have both components be mobile-compatible for launching with a live net connection. Both exist - mobile-compatible LMS products and CP publishing to HTML (with some limitations), so that would be the approach to tackle for now if such tracking is critical.

  • Captivate 8 HTML5 not playing in iframe

    Hello,
I am trying to view a Captivate 8 HTML5 published responsive webinar within an iframe, but am only seeing the loading symbol, it does not ever start.
    Here is the code that I am using: <a href="/Portals/0/webinars/mra/captivate8_html5/responsive.html" class="mraCustomDialog" data-fancybox-type="iframe">Captivate 8 HTML5 Responsive Test Pop-Up Window</a>
I was told that it has something to do with the CPXHRLoader.js file (part of the Captivate template), that it's doing something that the browsers don't like permissions-wise. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I've been in contact with a tech support rep who told me that it works correctly on their server, but they've only suggested using an iframe within an iframe. Basically, it's an iframe with a link inside of it that you have to click to open another iframe, but it's a very short height and I can't figure out how to make it taller. Here's a screen shot of what mine looks like:

  • Captivate Scorm 1.2 with Moodle and max. apptempts

    Dear all,
I am the person who pushed Captivate in our company and now everyone is looking at me because its not doing as we are used by Articulate.
    The setting:
Moodle allows three tries to see if someone passed or failed a lesson.
After the third try the user can redo the course in Articulate, but all questions are greyed and no new try is reported back to Moodle.
That way the user stays always with three tries and is displayed as in review mode in Moodle.
    My problem:
Captivate is set to 3 tries and reports back to Moodle.
In Moodle the user has three tries and after these three tries the user is shown passed or failed.
If the user starts the test a forth time (Moodle shows review mode) captivate will 'crash'.
If started a fifth time, captivate will work and report back.
So if you try it a fifth time and pass, Moodle shows passed.
Where is my logical error. What setting did I set wrong?
Can Captivate not do the same as Articulate?
Can Captivate receive a variable to disable the questions (Could be done via Widget)?
    Any ideas?
    Best TD

You mention that you have the quiz inside Captivate set to three tries as well as Moodle giving the user three tries.  I make that a total possible 9 attempts at the same quiz.  If the idea is to only give the person three opportunities to pass a test then you should set Captivate to only one attempt each time launched and let Moodle handle the number of attempts.  Or give Captivate 3 attempts and 1 in Moodle.  Either way, the limit should be three, if that's what you're after.
However, that won't change the bigger issue that Captivate is crashing for some reason and Moodle doesn't prevent a fourth or fifth scoring attempt.  It appears to me like when Captivate crashes, it's because something has happened in Moodle, because theoretically Moodle shouldn't be allowing any fourth or fifth scoring attempt.  So I wouldn't immediately be blaming Captivate for the issue here.
By definition, a SCORM doesn't actually know how many times it gets loaded because it doesn't store any data after the session is closed. The SCORM standard states that the SCO should not require anything outside itself to function. It's the LMS's job to record data about the user interaction with the SCORM.  So if the LMS (Moodle in your case) allows the user to open the same SCORM after they've exceeded the maximum permissible number of attempts, then the LMS is supposed to disable further scoring capability somehow, either by only allowing the course to open in Review Mode (which allows the user to do the quiz but not get any credit for it recorded) or by not allowing the user to open the course modules at all, usually giving them a message that says so.
I think your problem is somewhere in Moodle, not Captivate, and you may need to find out why Moodle is still recording scoring attempts AFTER the maximum number permitted.  This sounds like a Moodle bug to me and it might also explain why Captivate is crashing.  (If by crashing you mean that the Captivate lesson seems to go unresponsive, this is most likely because it's SCORM API is waiting in vain for the proper response to come back from Moodle.)
I'm not familiar with how Articulate interacts with LMSs, so I'll have to take your word for the fact that it can read the fact that the LMS has exceeded permissible attempts and disable the quiz components.  That sounds like quite a cool feature, but Captivate doesn't have it (that I'm aware of).  I know of no widget that will do it for you either, though in theory it could be developed.

  • Scorm html5 content from Presenter 10 and Moodle

Hi, after publishing html5 content as Scorm 1.2. zip from Presenter 10 and upload to Moodle 2.7. the content is playing as small ,,banner,, . I can see only playbar and very very small slides wich I can not extend or can not make full screen mode. Audio play, playbar works, only slides are something like miniatures. Have please any ideas?

I have tried the remove and re-add and it makes no difference. I can't now get the Presenter presentation with video in mp4 format to display or play. I am not sure if it is there or not as when viewing on an iPad it says it is buffering but never actually stops buffering. I can see it on my computer fine and it plays fine, but some of the reason for publishing to html 5 is so as it can be seen by people using tablets.  I just can't seem to get it to work no matter what I try.
    So to recap:
    1. using a presentation published using an older version of Presenter that contains flv videos
    2. republishing the presentation using Presenter 10 to a Connect Content Library using HTML 5
    3. have to convert the flv to mp4
    4. on a computer using a variety of browsers the presentation plays fine.
    5. on a tablet (iPad tried at this stage) the slides without video plays fine, the slides with video just continually says buffering
On the second point of Presenter throwing up an error message, it's not so much that it throws up the error message as I can cancel that. It's more to do with the fact that it throws it up each time I try to publish a presentation that includes video that is of a certain duration.  I have followed the whole kill the process as suggested and while this does indeed stop the problem it just comes back when I open PowerPoint again and try to publish.

  • Embed YouTube video into SCORM (HTML5) using Captivate 7?

    Hi there,
I am using Captivate 7 to produce a SCORM compliant HTML5 course - this course includes a video, however when I have tried to upload the video directly, it pauses/doesn't play well in our LMS.  As such I wanted to try embedding/streaming the video from Youtube instead. The video is unlisted (as it is an internal course).  I've had a hunt of the forums but can't seem to work out how to do this?
Note: When I try going to Video > Insert Video, then Event Video > Already Deployed... entering the Youtube url - It doesn't work and I receive the following message: "Failed to load the video file. The file parth or the URL may be invalid. Do you want to change the file part or the URL".  I am using Adobe Captivate 7 version 7.0.1.237 (in case it helps).
    Any and all help appreciated.
    Nicole

    Thanks for the quick response!
Re: Widget - does it work with HTML5?  I found a couple forums that seemed to suggest it doesn't...
Also, when you say the full YouTube URL - where do I get this from?  I (embarrassingly) didn't realise there were two different ones.
    Thanks again,
    Nicole

  • Change to SCORM 1.2 Menu in Captivate 8 HTML5 Course Uploads

I'm working on creating a structure in our Learning Environment that will work on a Samsung SM-T530NU Tablet and one of my concerns are the size of the left hand menu as shown below. We user Meridian as our LMS Provider.
My first thought is Meridian might be the controllers of this menu and if that is the case can I pass these SCORM variable a font size before entering the package into Meridian and bypass the need to involve them (Working with them can be tricky). or is this something set forth by the SCORM Package files and could be changed there?
    Thoughts?

You are correct that the menu is controlled by Meridian and is generated from the information in the manifest. You cannot change it with variables. There may be an admin panel that will allow an administrator to style the interface.
