Capture action freezes mouse - Premier Elements 2.0
I have been using Premier Element 2.0 on Windows XP successfully for many years.
I have a Canon DV camera utilizing a firewire setup. Just recently, when firing off a capture
the Adobe goes ahead and captures, but I cannot stop the capture without actually turning off the camera.
The mouse has no affect or use in the Adobe window until the camera is turned off. Once I repower the camera,
I can start a capture again, but the same thing eventually happens. I have tried a different firewire cable, but have not replaced the interface card.
Anyone work through this issue, yet?
Thanks.
What you describe reminds me of my wireless mouse when its batteries are close to exhaustion. Try putting fresh batteries in and see if that makes a difference.
I use AA batteries with a built in USB connector (you just lift the + terminal cap to reveal the connector). So I always have two plugged into a USB hub ready to be swapped when the installed ones run down.
Cheers,
Neale

Sharing to Disc Tab freezes in Premier Elements 9
I last created a movie in Elements 9 in March. Since then I have installed a number of programmes (none access the dvds), but also Windows 7 Service pack 1.
I went to create a movie today, elements worked fine until I got to the Sharing Section. All the tabs work here except for the disc tab (sharing to DVD or Blu-ray), when I click on this tab, the screen freezes and Windows task manager tells me elements is not responding.
I have tried restoring my computer to pre-service pack 1, but it won't go back that far.
So I read through Adobe's Q&As checked out the trouble shooter (even refreshed the DVD drivers), removing & reinstalling premier Elements, but all to no avail.
Can anyone help please?
I'm running Win 7 Professional, 64Bit, Service Pack 1, on an Intel i7, with 12GB RAM.
Thanks
MartynMartyn,
Hey, a project to keep you inside, and out of the rain.
After that initial checklist, I'd go link by link, and see if there is anything of use in each. Work towards the "Finding Clues," and by then, you should have some idea what is happening, and then we can explore the why. When you get to the Event Viewer (in Finding Clues), do not be overwhelmed, or put off, if you see a bunch of Warning, or Error messages that are just gobbelygook. No one knows what that "stuff" is, BUT for every message with real text (read that), or a link, follow those links, and give the MS server time to display that page - depending on the link, that might take a few moments.
If you are not getting Warning, or Error messages, when PrE hangs/crashes, then explore the regular messages, to see if something else is being called at that moment. Each event is logged. I have seen Internet connections, anti-virus software, or even the clock's sync, crop up, at just the wrong time, and hang a program. Usually, however, there will be System, or Application Warning, or Error messages associated with the hangs/crashes.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - get that rain over with, as I will be in London at the end of October for a week! -
How to import AVI files created in Adobe Premier Elements 2?
I have captured video in Adobe Premier Elements 2 on my PC from my Canon Optura camcorder. I have a few hundred small .avi files that I need a friend to import into his Final Cut Pro so they can be edited along with other footage that he has created. What is the best way to do this? Should I output a different file type from Adobe to make it easier for him to import?
Thanks in advance.
BobDavid Bogie Chq-1 wrote:

No, it would be easier to give him the camera and let him capture natively.
bogiesan</div>
Unfortunately the clips are dispersed throughout many tapes so it is not reasonable for my friend to capture directly from the tapes.
I'm new to video editing and I don't know what format is recorded by my camcorder. Reading in this forum indicates that the .AVI files are just "wrappers". Is the compressor part of Final Cut? Would he be able to convert the files? Is it a problem if the time codes are lost. Can I do anything else in Adobe to make the conversion easier?
Sorry for all the dumb questions. -
Premier Elements 2 not capturing video
I have operated Premier Elements 2 for some years, but I am currently having problems with the video capture. The controls operate the camera, the sound is on, but the picture does not appear and nothing downloads. I have reinstalled the program but it makes no difference. Any suggestions?
Welcome to the forum.
The Capture process is only a byte-for-byte copy of the signal over the FireWire cable. If you are getting Device Control, plus the Audio, then something is not making its way across the cable, or though the connectors.
The first thing that I would look at is the FW cable. Try another one.
Next, do you have more than one FW connector (iLink, IEEE-1394) on your computer? Is so, they another one.
What is the make/model of your camera?
What is your Project Preset, and does it match the recording settings on your camera?
Have you updated your video drivers very, very recently? If not, do so immediately from the video card mfgr's. Web site.
Good luck,

Windows shuts down Premier Elements 9 randomly
I have a more than adequate Windows 7 based computer. My hard drive died before Christmas and I had to reinstall the software. I created a new project with captured video and added some background music. Did not save often unfortunately and lost it all when windows shut down the program. Recreated it from scratch, saving often and still had occasional shut downs while creating the project. It's only about a 30min video with some added sound tracks and a few title screens. Now, when trying to make a DVD, it gets through Encoding 4 Menus and will begin encoding media. Sometimes makes it 7% sometimes 80% and then windows message says program has stopped working, shutting down. I see progress bar was still moving just seconds before the shutdown. Tried to convert to an MPEG and save on my computer instead and got the same shutdown notice. I just saw the FFDShow codec note and have not checked to see if that is on my computer or not. Would deleting this folder potentially solve this? Forgot to mention, Premier Elements is on non partitioned C drive with 100+GIG free space, save location is on a partitioned drive F with 300+GIG free space.
Is there an update link for Premier 9? I saw one come through this morning for 9.0.3 but the one in your "Hangs UP" thread is only for 9.0.1. Tried to update to 9.0.3 but would not connect to Adobe server this morning.

This first thing that I would do is to gather more information, and post it to this thread. See this article on the types of info, that would be so useful: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3220274#3220274
Also, take a look at this FAQ Entry, on PrE Hanging & Crashing: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/792580?tstart=0
Good luck, and let us know a bit more, please.

Question on Trial version of Premier Elements 12
This is my first effort at creating a video with this new program. I have several questions but, we'll do one at a time. First ... When I create a transition a "banner" shows up on the screen saying "created by premier 12 trial version. Is that going to be there on the "finished product ? It's very annoying and, blocks everything. Second .... When I looked thru the photos I ADDED some captions to the bottom of the photos. However, the TEXT doesn't show up when creating a movie. What am I doing wrong ?
Prof. I am trying multiple things her so, bear with me.
lets go back to a discussion we had yesterday about text on pictures.
I believe I have to be in "expert mode to do all of the things you asked me to try...
I went into expert and, was then able to access these items. I'm working on trying
all the things you suggested.
However, what about doing all this text stuff in a a naration instead. Would that be easier ?
Bill Hunt had given me a way to do that earlier but, I was a bit overwhelmed and lost that text.
Maybe, that might be a more "personable" way to do this ????

Saunts
As they say, this is just a test
1. Open Premiere Elements 12 to the Expert workspace.
2. Import a photo from the hard drive into the program via the program's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets. And, from Project Assets, drag your photo to the beginning of Video Track 1.
3.With your Timeline Indicator (Blue head on Red Stem) at the beginning of the Timeline, go to Text/New Text/Default Text and click on Default Text to open the Titler which will have four sections (Text, Styles, Animation, and Shapes). Click on the Text section tab. Notice that, when the Titler opened, the program automatically placed the title on the Timeline at the position of the Timeline Indicator.
a. There are a variety of ways to start typing, replacing the default "Add Text" with what you want. What I usually do is to go to the right edge of the Add Text default with the mouse cursor and left click/drag from right to left across Add Text to put a gray cast over it and then type with the horizontal type tool. When I am ready to move the text around, then I select the Selection Tool in the trio of tools (horizontal text tool, vertical text tool, selection tool) in the Text Section and use it to select the text. When you make the text selection, you should see a bounding box around the text for you to use for resizing and such.
b. Important add ons...after the Titler closes, to open the title again for more editing, double click the title on the Timeline...when you want to close the Titler, look to the top right of that Adjustments Panel. You should see two tiny gray arrows point right. Click those arrows to close the Titler.
Here is some reading material for your to review after you have done some mini test runs with the above.

http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/08/pe11-titler-shapes-for-highligh ting.html
The last three may be more than you want now since your focus is on captions, but maybe hold on to them for another time when you want to get deeper into the Premiere Elements Titler opportunities.
Please review and let me know if I went too far beyond what you sought. I will back up if necessary.
Also, please take a look at "captions as text" in Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor preferences.
Thanks.

Can I download a DV tape to Premier Elements without a firewire connection?
I recently purchased a new HD camcorder as well as Premier Elements 10. One of the tasks that I'd like to accomplish via Premier Elements is to download my old DV tapes to my hard drive, which the software seems to support. The instruction manuals and video tuitorials mention that this transfer / capture must generally be done with a firewire connection (which my computer does not have). However, my new HD camcorder downloads via a USB connection without a problem. I tried to download from the DV camcorder using a USB connection and (sure enough) Premier Elements wouldn't recognize the old camcorder. Does anyone know why is this a problem / what the compatibility issue is? Is there a way to download the DV tapes to my hard drive without having to purchase and install a new firewire connection to my existing computer and buying a new firewire cord?
Thanks in advance for any help offered. For Capture of tape in PrE, you will need FW. If your computer does not have FW, then you have a couple of choices:
Add a FW (IEEE-1394) card
Add a FW connection to a laptop via either a PCMCIA, or ExpressCard
Good luck,

Premier Elements 13 Organizer Works. Editor doesn't. Log in doesn't work
I downloaded and installed Premier Elements 13 last night. In using it today, Organizer works, but when I select Editor, I am required to log in to my account to activate it. When I do so, then I eventually reach the agreement to terms page, accept it but Editor still doesn't work. Contacted Chat and had an extremely humourous but extremely frustrating chat before the chat stopped working (??????) Here is a copy and paste of the chat up until Chat stopped working:
Here is my chat at the last point I saved a copy......
Thank you for contacting Adobe.

You are now chatting with Amit Kumar.
Amit Kumar: Hello! Welcome to Adobe Customer Service.
Gordon Stogre: I tried the forums but no one had replied for the last 2 hours. Experts must be on vacation.
Gordon Stogre: Hello Amit. Are you there?
Amit Kumar: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=premiere_elements&loc=us
Gordon Stogre: Do you want me to click on that link?
Amit Kumar: Yes
Gordon Stogre: Why?
Amit Kumar: Download it again from this link.
Gordon Stogre: I've already downloaded and set up Premier Elements 13.
Gordon Stogre: That was last night
Gordon Stogre: Why?
Amit Kumar: Download and install itagain from this link.
Gordon Stogre: It took about 2 hours to set it up on a fast internet connection
Gordon Stogre: Why should I have to do it again. It is already set up and installed.
Gordon Stogre: The problem is with the Editor. The Organizer works correctly.
Amit Kumar: There is some issue with the software.
Gordon Stogre: What is the issue. Please explain
Amit Kumar: Some files did not download that's why it is not working.
Gordon Stogre: Are you saying that the Adobe file download is faulty?
Amit Kumar: Yes
Gordon Stogre: Everything downloaded correctly and it installed correctly
Amit Kumar: Ok
Amit Kumar: One moment while I transfer you to the specialist that can assist you.
Gordon Stogre: I want a refund on what I paid for Premier 13. This is ludicrous that I should have to spend this much of my time downloading and installing.. I want it free now.
Gordon Stogre: This is absolutely ridiculous that Adobe uploaded a faulty software. My time is extremely valuable.
Amit Kumar: I have arranged refund for this product.
Gordon Stogre: I have spent a total of 6.5 hours downloading, setting up and installing and then trying to get it working.
Gordon Stogre: But I still want to use this product with the properly working software. Is my licence still valid if I download and reinstall it?
Amit Kumar: I have arranged refund for this product now.
Gordon Stogre: WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO USE IT ????
Gordon Stogre: Will my licence that I purchased for Premier Elements 13 still be valid???
Gordon Stogre: I want to use it but am very frustrated and annoyed by the problem.
Amit Kumar: You will not be able to use it.
Gordon Stogre: I NEED TO USE IT !!!
Gordon Stogre: Do you understand?
Gordon Stogre: I want a refund and an operating version of Premier 13.
Amit Kumar: But I have arranged refund for this product now.
Gordon Stogre: Please escalate this to your supervisor if you are not able to do this.
Gordon Stogre: Or I will publish this all over internet
Amit Kumar: Would you mind waiting for 2 - 3 minutes while I research on this issue?
Gordon Stogre: I will wait
Gordon Stogre: 6:13 local time now. About 9 minutes since you asked me to wait...............
This continued on until 6:39 when the supervisor told me he was transferring it to "the group that could help me with this issue" Then the chat shut down.Oldcameraman
At the forum level, there is no instantaneous reply. And, there is no "how long before I get someone to post in my thread" expectation.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. Although I personally try to see that every thread has a viable reply before the end of the day, there are no guarantee how long it will take for a thread to be answered with some information that may actually help you resolve your particular issue. I am not affiliated with Adobe in anyway. Just a user with an overactive troubleshooting gene.
From what you wrote, you no longer have a purchased product. You demanded your money back from Adobe via its Adobe Chat, and you got what you demanded, that is, your money back request put into action. So, I am not sure what you are left to work with.
If you purchased from an online download from Adobe and the install apparently did not take, then it is not unreasonable to be asked to uninstall/reinstall the program with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled. That may or may not help. There are certain troubleshooting drills that need to be followed as one systematically goes through the progress of ruling factors in or out of the problem equation.
Part of the drill might have included:
a. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
b. Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus installed?
c. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and with Run As Administrator applied to the desktop icon?
d. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card? How many video cards/graphics cards does your computer use, 1 or 2?
e. Is your computer connected to the Internet?
f. Is the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 13?
g. Other
But, none of the above is going to be of use if you do not have a purchased copy of Premiere Elements 13 to work with. You need to sort out your Adobe situation with Adobe.
We will be watching for your progress. We want you to succeed.

Let us go through the usual drill on this...Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit)
1. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges? Go to Local Disk C/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Premiere Elements 13, find the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe file, right click it, select and apply Run As Administrator from the pop up menu that appears, and then double click that file to determine if you can open the program from it.
2. Does the problem issue exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
3. Are you working with a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
4. How many video cards/graphics cards do you find under Device Manager/Display Adapters, what card name, driver date and up to date version number?
When you say it will not run...how far into the program do you get...
a. no further than the Welcome Screen and Video/New Project
b. other
If non of the above gets us anywhere, we may go for
a. deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 13.0 Folder in which it exists
and, if necessary, then
b. the uninstall, free ccleaner run through, and reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
Details to follow if needed.
We will be watching for your results and then decide what next.

Bridge / Lightroom and Premier Elements
Am I missing something obvious? I am new to using Premier Elements, but use Lightroom, Phototoshop. In Design every day. So I use LR to manage my photographic files and Bridge for everything else.
I capture video on my camera in AVCHD, so Lightroom can't import or manage the files, despite the claims that it now supports video. Bridge doesn't seem to know of Premier Elements existence and instead I am expected to use yet another browser designed to work with PS Elements. Is their a work around for this, can Bridge be made to work with Premier Elements so I don't have to waste my time learning an entirely new management system. Seems a bit barmy to me that Bridge can't work with an Adobe product.I know of no way to get Bridge to see and interface with PrElements. I use Bridge for most of my organizing, as I also use InDesign, PS, AI and PrPro. If I am using PrE, I just do a Get Media, though those might have been "organized" in Bridge.
Good luck,

How can I get Premier Elements to recognize my Canon Vixia HV40 to record tape from it?
I recently installed Adobe Premier Elements 12 on my new Lenovo U310 Ideapad computer. I opened the program and was able to transfer a clip from a file transfered to me from a smart phone recording and start assembling a new home movie. However, when I tried to get video footage from my Canon Vixia HV40 tape camcorder, I received a message "No HDV camera connected. I then used my older Canon Vixia HV20 camera and changed the USB connecting cable, but that camera too was not recognized. In the past, I had been succesfull using an older version of Premie Elements to get footage from my Canon camera. Is it possible that this new Premier Elements 12 is not programed to pick up these Canon video cameras or is their some way around this problem. My new computer does not have a 1394 input.
TR Snevac
As far as I have ever seen reported DV or HDV data capture into Premiere Elements Capture Windows (any version) does not work unless the connection is firewire. And, there are occasions (especially with HDV capture firewire) the require that the capture firewire be done in HDVSplit and then the split clips imported into a Premiere Elements project via the typical Get Media/Add Media route.
Which version of Premiere Elements allowed you to do a DV or HDV capture firewire in to its Capture Window using a USB connection? From what you wrote it gave me the impression that you were saying that you had.
If you have followed the protocol for HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 (with correct project preset)
http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b79-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2. html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
then you would need to explore the use of HDVSplit (firewire connection) and then import of the .m2t split clips from that process in to Premiere Elements 12 (Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets).
http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm
If both these Canon camera are miniDV camcorders, then you need a firewire connect to the data capture into Premiere Elements Capture Windows.
Do you have access to a computer with a firewire port?
Or
Does your computer have what is referred to as a PCMCIA slot for use with a firewire card? Have you looked into the possibility? No sure if that will work for you.

my premier elements 12 wont open at all and the photoshop 12 opens but the screen freezes straight away, was halfway through a video project but have been having difficulties from the beginning- the screen freezing when adding text and the playback and audio stuttering. Help!
Lindaos
Just some supplemental comments....all information is important in troubleshooting.
I do not know if I am ready to suggest deleting the BadDrivers.txt file at this point. If and when we get to that point, the BadDrivers.txt
file for Premiere Elements 12 Windows 7 or 8 64 bit can be found in the path:
Local Disc C
Program Data
Premiere Elements
Adobe
Premiere Elements
and in the Premiere Elements Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete.
Note: The version 12 BadDrivers.txt file exists in the Premiere Elements 12 Folder along with Folders for other versions as well as 12.
For prior versions of Premiere Elements, this BadDrivers.txt file would be in the folder of its version.
Also, in order to see the above path, you need to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active.
We look forward to more details of your issue so that we can rule in or out factors involved in your problems. Although video card driver considerations are important to the details package, there are a lot of other possibities in that package.
Thanks.

How to make Premier Elements 8 work...
As many may have figured out by now, Premier Elements 8 is not exactly pristene... Hopefully Adobe will get us all a working version in the next few months. In the meantime here are a couple of tips:
First if you're using a 64bit Operating System, Premier Elements 8 does not support it and may not work properly no matter what you do However, if you are using Windows 7 Professional 64bit or Ultimate 64bit you're in luck... you can set up Premier Elements 8 to run in Windows XP mode which runs under a 32bit virtual machine. If you're using Vista or XP 64bit you're pretty much stuck with what you've got...
Now for everyone using a 32bit Operating System (including those using Windows XP mode inside Windows 7), here's the best way to get a working Premier Elements 8 working... bypass the welcome screen / organizer. Now the file names may be different depending on when you got your version of PrE8, and the locations may be different depending on which OS you're using. These instructions are for Windows XP 32bit versions:
1> delete your desktop shortcut for Premier Elements 8
2> use "my computer" and navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premier Elements 8.0
3> find the two application files that begin "Adobe Premiere Elements". The one that ends in 8.0 opens the welcome screen / organizer which you do not want to use, right click the one that does not end in 8.0 and select "Send to Desktop"
4> now sitback & enjoy using your crash free version of Premier Elements 8.0 *
* Okay, that won't fix EVERYTHING, but it has fixed 95% of my crashes and has helped several others.
Also, if you find PrE8 taking excessively long amounts of time to complete certain tasks including saving your work, adding or deleting effects/annotations/transitions, etc... dissable "background rendering" by going to Edit Menu > Preferences > General & uncheck the box marked "enable background rendering", you may also want to go to the "Auto Save" portion of the preferences & change your auto save settings, I have mine set to save every 5 minutes, though for the average user 10 minutes is probably plenty unless you continue to have problems despite the steps above.
Oh & for those also using Photoshop Elements 8.0 the same bypass can lead to happier photoshopping but with PhotoshopElementsEditor as the file you want to create a desktop shortcut for...I'd like to blame your failure on Vista... as I recall, you're running Vista 32bit... but since my only experiences with Vista are from fixing other peoples computers that have Vista installed... I'll refrain for now
The delays in actions (deleting transitions, etc...) could be from background rendering hogging resources... It does the same thing on my pathetic old PC, which is why I mentioned it as well in my OP.
But beyond that, I'm not going to be much help for a Vista user cause I have no real-world experience with that plague...
