Capture TV tuner video/audio into applet
I am working on my senior project that should capture audio/video from tv tuner and broadcast it to the client through web page , is this possible using JMF or should I use other strandards??
Can any one help me with tutorials or sample code about this subject ??
thanks in advace
I read what you are developing very interesting project - we are also working on a similar project using speech to text and creating a video audio text search engine.
We would be happy to have you beta test what you are developing on our system.
We are planning on using Hauppauge PVR 2250 to capture in either analog and digital. We are planning to also get a hold of the SDK (Software Development Kit) for this board to help us do some of the modifications. This might be also something you need to think about.
Please email me at [email protected]
Thanks,

Analog Video/Audio into G5 Quad via USB/Firewire
Hello!
I have a Mac G5 Quad and I already have a capture card installed for my
Betacam SP deck (it's a Blackmagic Decklink SP card). From time to time I'd also
like to capture video/audio straight from VHS, DVD and occasionally even
LaserDisc but I don't want to start disconnecting my Betacam SP-to-G5 cables to do
this.
Is there a quality device that would allow me to go from RCA video/audio
outputs directly into my G5 via USB or Firewire? I've done a bit of research
online and it appears that the quality of the output video/audio varies greatly
according to which device one uses.
Any advice, guidance or recommendations are much needed and most appreciated.
Cheers!

?Inserting video/media into applet
I've just gotten into applets. I found and finally today figured out how to insert audioClips into the applet, but i cannot find a way to insert video (wma, mov, ect..) files into the applet. I would greatly apreciate it if someone could NOT give me the code to do it, but tell me what classes to look in so that i may try and figure it out myself.
I am using Java 1.4.2
I used the following code for my sound/image to appear, but have not been able to find anything concerning video:
import java.awt.*;
import java.applet.*;
public class Applets extends Applet
public void init()
public void paint(Graphics g)
sound();
picture(g);
video();
public void sound()
AudioClip x = super.getAudioClip(getCodeBase(),"Wonders.wav");
x.play();
public void picture(Graphics g)
Image x = super.getImage(getCodeBase(),"htgnlogo.jpg");
g.drawImage(x, 0, 0, this);
public void video()
//help?
}You can use the dbms_lob package to store BLOBs in the database. See: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B13789_01/appdev.101/b10802/d_lob.htm

Capture Problem - No Video-Audio only TC
Hello,
I haven't had this problem before, and I've done a search on this forum. But none of the solutions that seemed to have worked for other posters has worked for me. So here we go.....
I'm using OS 10.4.11, QT 7.4.1, FCP 6.0.2 on a Dual 2.5GHz G5, Decklink Extreme.
I'm trying to capture MiniDV material on a Sony HVR M15 player (Pal version) via Firewire. In the Log&Capture window, I can control the player, and I see the TC, but no Audio or Video comes through. I've checked the deck controls, the tapes are recognised as MiniDV 50i.
I get video and audio with the Blackmagic Deckcontrol app, but that is rather clumsy.
No other device uses a FW port. Capturing to my 2nd internal harddrive.
I hooked the deck up to my Intel MBP and I got a glimpse of video, but then it disappeared and I got the same problems as with the G5.
On the G5, I then trashed my prefs, shut down, waited for 5 minutes, started the deck, turned on the G5, tried it again, no use.
I used Easy Setup DV-PAL, btw....
Anyone have any ideas, am I missing something? I know the deck works, I hooked it up to my TV via composite out.
Sheesh, always when it rains.....
Cheers,
ColinHi X,
good to know that. however, in my case the fw cable wasn't attached. I had to attach the deck to my telly, which is in another room. Well, I did get some excercise yesterday.
But thanks for your help. One thing I know is that I won't hire this deck again. It wouldn't work with my G4/G5/MBP, different OSX and FCP versions.
Oh well, I wouldn't mind so much if it hadn't also wrecked one tape. I guess if things go wrong, they REALLY go wrong.
Ok, gotta go through the material now, try and do something nice with it.
Hope you'll have a better week and thanks,

Importing live video/audio into Premiere Pro 5.5???
Hey everyone,
I am starting a Youtube channel and I am using a video camera with a seperate mic hookup, I was wondering if there is a way to hookup the camera to the computer and display the feed into Premiere Pro. In addition the files from the camera would go into a folder I would designate for all my premiere files. obviously it is not necessary, I could simply record and then transfer the file to my computer then import into premiere but I was hoping I could combine all the steps into one
Any suggestions?
Would camtasia or another software be more useful?
Does anyone else have suggestions for possible easier ways to setup this up even if not involving premiere?A camcorder with a firewire output connected to Premiere will allow the capturing of the live feed from the camera (assuming that the computer has a firewire connector.)
For capturing HD direct from a camera will need a Blackmagic card / box (or similar from another manufacturer).
I have captured SD video via firewire, so that works, but never HD - even though I have a BM intensity pro card. -
Record video/Audio into Qtime directly to mpeg 4 (video ipod format)
I have tried but can't seem to accomplish this. Is it possible to "record" into Quicktime, video from an external source and immediately create the format that plays back correctly on a video ipod? I know I can input a large quicktime file and then convert it for a few hours to the "Movie to iPod" format, but is there a way to skip that step? I see that I can input to an MPEG 4 format and an H.264 but both of these also reqire lengthy conversions. No way aroun d that?
Hi -
Nope. You need either a hardware solution that works in real time like the Blackmagic or a software solution that converts the files. If you have Final Cut Studio it comes with Compressor software that will allow you to create H.264 files.
There may be other software solutions out there, but if you are using software, you will need to allow for the time taken to convert the files.
Hope this helps. -
I am using FME with my ATI TV Tuner. The tuner has an audio
out line which connects to your sound cards line in. However the
audio out on the TV tuner will only output audio when the TV tuner
is in use. Applications like Windows Media Encoder, etc work fine.
I get audio.
However with the flash player webcam code the audio for the
TV tuner never worked, and does not work for FME as well. I get
video fine, all works there but the audio is never kicked on. I'm
not sure if there is something in the capture API for devices to
trigger the audio that FME is not doing but Windows Media Encoder
does. I am selecting all the same options I do for the capture
devices for video & audio in other applications but FME just
doesn't kick the audio out on the TV tuner thus the line in on the
sound card never gets anything.
I am running the following:
Athlon 4000+ X2 Dual Core
3 GB RAM
ATI TV WONDER PRO Capture Card
Thanks and take care.i noticed on my sb audigy 2zs it said you cold use aux in, cdin or digital in
it took it as not both..
try to see if you flipped cable over, one of my cd cables is not keyed it could be the problem..try to email ati tech support and if it works post here please.
what drivers are you using ati cat 4.3? mabey they changed something and it made aiw stop working, sometimes change is not for the better -

Capturing HD video directly into my computer using HDD Cam & FCE 3.5
I have a JVC Everio GZ-HD7. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how "crappy" these HDD cams can be, in time to be able to return it. It records in 4GB sections, which is bad for me because I record at a studio and I can't have songs being cut off all the time and when trying to put together on the timeline on FCE, you notice the millisecond switch from one clip to another, including the audio skip. Now, I had a DV Cam (tape) which came with a program that I connected the cam to the comp using USB and could capture video straight into my computer's HDD. Is there anyway of doing the same thing with my JVC, which has Firewire and USB, using IMovie or FCE, or perhaps even another program (could be cheap too)?? I just need to be able to record entire clips and then edit them in FCE. The GZ-HD7 records in Full HD, 1440CBR and SD, but apparently 1440CBR is the "same thing" as HDV, which should work as if I had a HD Tape Cam. PLEEEASE and help! Ive tried looking everywhere but either I dont type in the correct keywords or there just isnt anything like that. I appreciate it!
i didnt read this topic too much but maybe youre not recording to the hard disk just the external medi drive... anyway... if your having trouble importing your clips... watch this vid...maybe this will help...

Capture from different video and audio sources ?
Hey guys, I'm running Adobe CS4 Master Collection.
In the past I've used Premiere to record the video and Soundbooth to record the audio. Then I would import the recorded audio into premiere.
Thinking about the workflow this seems kind of long winded, really what I should be able to do is record the audio from my video camera and the audio from my microphone (not video cam audio), at the same time within premiere.
Just wondering if anyone has a way of doing this ?
In the capture screen options it only allows selection of the video source with the audio automatically coming from the video camera - not what I want.
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.Jason,
Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, this was posted to the Premiere (not Pro) forum, and belongs in the Premiere Pro forum, as you have CS4. The best reason for that is that there is much more traffic out in the PrPro forum, so you'll get more responses.
Now, to address your question: I see your normal workflow as being the best one. You are talking about the Video from your camera and then narration. Doing them as separate operations will be the easiest and the best, as they are, well separate operations.
One possibility would be to hook your mic to an XLR input on your camera, preview the footage and record your additional Audio Track to the tape, or card. However, you are then faced with having more than the 2 origianl channels of Audio. You would need to use SceneAlyzer Live (for SD material), or HDVSplit (for HD material), to Capture those additional channels of Audio for use in PrPro, as it will NOT Capture them.
I'd guess that the time to do that sort of workflow would be as long, as doing it your way. Also with your way, you can redo botched narration much more quickly.
Maybe someone has another method, to run both Soundbooth and PrPro at the same time, other than on side-by-side computer, but you'll still have the issue of bothched narration - gotta' get it 100% the first time, or you'll be really playing "catch up."
Good luck,

IPad 3 audio sync issue when video imported into CS5.5
Hi everyone, long time lurker here, love the support you guys are giving!
I'm hoping you'll be able to help with an audio sync problem I'm experiencing with videos recorded with the latest iPad 3 (well, that's what I'm calling it anyway).
I believe the iPad 3 recording format is 1080/30p with 44.1Khz / 16 bit audio, but when I match those settings on a Premiere Pro CS5.5 project (or try 48KHz audio as a test), the audio gradually goes out of sync. If the video is several minutes long, it becomes quite obvious, and by 10 minutes, it's terrible!
I should add the file plays back fine on the iPad itself and was imported to a Mac via iTunes. It also plays fine on the Mac itself in Quicktime.
Does anyone have any suggestions on project settings that'd work?
On a related note, I additionally captured the audio using a Zoom H2n which i intended to replace in Premiere, but foolishly I captured it at 48KHz, rather than the 44.1KHz of the iPad video file. Should I resample it?
I actually managed to line-up the 48 and 44.1KHz waveforms from the iPad and Zoom in Premiere quite accurately, but again both gradually go out of sync with the video...
I'm running Premiere Pro 5.5.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.3.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Gordon LaingTo update my original post, I have found this problem happens about half the time.
Sometimes there's no issue and the audio is in sync when imported into Premiere, but at other times it's way off.
I did however find a workaround which has resolved the problem on my iPad3 videos which were out of sync and that was to first import the video clip into iMovie on the Mac first, then simply export it again using the 1080p option. The subsequent file is much larger (so there's been an annoying re-encode), but when imported into Premiere, the audio is at least now in sync.
I used this to fix the audio on a couple of the videos you can find on this page (all of which apart from the last one were filmed on the iPad3)
http://www.cameralabs.com/features/Working_holiday/
Since the video wasn't exactly critical to start with, I'm not too bothered by the re-encode.
Let me know if this fix works for anyone, and also if anyone comes up with a different solution.
Thanks,
Gordon -

How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?
Attach camera via USB or put card in card reader.
Go to FCP, and go to the Log and TRANSFER window.
If FCP recognizes the card, you will see your clips listed on the left.
You can view them, set Ins and Outs, and import just what you want.
Once you choose a section of video and import it, FCP converts (transcodes) from its original camera format to Apple ProRes422 - a more edit friendly video file. -
Why is my captured video split into three?
I have a canon HV40 and First I am not sure if i am even capturing with the right settings. I am shooting in HDV (pf30). when I click easy setup and choose HD and 29.97 I am guessing the best setting that is left to select is the HDV-apple intermediate code 1080i60. The quality seems great and I can capture video
here is the problem and it happens using another capture setting too.
If i capture an hour video it splits it into a 35 and sum min clip then a .7 sec cip and the rest which is usually around 29 and sum min clip. What the heck? this wrecks the video I cant work with a .7 sec clip and paste them all together. is there a way to get it to capture all into one clip that i can work with on the timeline?Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you capture on external drive? If so, I'm pretty sure that your drive is formated to FAT 32 file allocation table that doesn't support file larger than 4 gig.
HDV is transcoded to Apple Intermediate codec on capturing process in FCE and requires an efty 49 gig/hour for 1080i60 hard drive space.
FAT 32 is not a correct format for video editing works. Try to back up (or recapture) and reformat to Mac OS extended (journaled or not) with disk utility.

What application for capturing Video+Audio?
Hey,
I've recently installed (with great success) the WinFast 2000 XP RM video capturing card (according the instructions in the wiki).
I can now watch TV using TVTIME or KDETV.
Question is, how can I capture video + audio, to a .avi file?
Note that the card doesn't have an audio input, and that the audio input is connected
to the line-in of my onboard sound card.
I got some instructions from this page: http://forum.videohelp.com/topic307679.html
But, when trying to issue:
mencoder -tv norm=PAL:driver=v4l2:width=720:height=576:input=2:fps=25 tv:// -oac lavc -ovc lavc -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd -vf pp=lb/ha/va/dr,hqdn3d,harddup -srate 48000 -af lavcresample=48000 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:vrc_buf_size=1500:vrc_maxrate=8000:vbitrate=7000:keyint=15:acodec=mp2:abitrate=192:aspect=4/3 -o capture.mpg
I didn't get any sound at all (though the video capturing worked perfectly).
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
fiod

I use v4lctl (part of the xawtv package) to set the video card input and I capture to mjpeg rather than mpeg2, because it's better for editing, with ac3 audio, like this:
#!/bin/bash
# Generate recording filename
if [ -z "$1" ]; then
TMPFILE="tmp-`date +%F-%X`-mjpeg.avi"
else
TMPFILE=$1
fi
# Set capture card
v4lctl -c /dev/video2 setinput Composite1
transcode \
-u 256,2 \
-x v4l2=resync_margin=1:resync_interval=250:overrun_guard=1,v4l2 \
-g 720x576 \
--import_asr 2 \
-i /dev/video2 \
-H 0 \
-p /dev/dsp1 \
-e 32000,16,2 \
-E 48000,16,2 \
-n 0x1 \
-N 0x2000 \
-b 192\
-J resample,smartyuv,mask=lefttop=0x6:rightbot=720x564,hqdn3d=luma=4:chroma=3:luma_strength=6:chroma_strength=4,pv=cache=30 \
-y ffmpeg \
-F mjpeg \
-o $TMPFILE
exit 0
(The "-J mask=lefttop=0x6:rightbot=720x564" hides some vhs artefacts.)
Of course, my card is different to yours, so you'll need to adjust the audio device (/dev/dsp?) and video device (/dev/video?). Use "v4lctl -c /dev/video? list" to get the possible options for your card, like this:
[david@darkstar ~]$ v4lctl -c /dev/video2 list
