Car stereo

Hi I was wondering what cable anyone has found that works better than others for connecting an ipod to the aux port in my car stereo. Are there any recommendations for installing an auxiliary line into the back of the receiver and playing my ipod through that? Thanks

well i dunno about that but if your interested I know there is this kinda tape connection i recently bought...it looks just like a tape and you just put it into the tape player in your car and then attach the other end to your iPod and the sound is good

  • IPod no longer works with car stereo since upgraded MBA & iTunes

My iPod classic has worked just fine connected to my car stereo since i bought it last june. I just bought a new Macbook Air (OS 10.7.3) & installed ITUNES 10.6.1. After I synched my ipod for the first time its recognised by the car but i get a "can't read data" message. I re-formatted my ipod but its exactly the same. Do you think its the upgrade- or the cable? Has anyone else found a bug with this version of Itunes or the OS? I have my doubts a cable would make the difference, and my old ipod nano that i haven't synched for a while works fine.

If standalone works fine, then, most likely the 30 pin connect may have some dirt or lint, prevent data transfer.
You can try to blow it clean, if you have a can of compressed air or gas.
Alternatively you can connect it to the car stereo and do the RESET, while connnected.as follows
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
The Reset sequence may send a signal to the Car stereo to do the right thing

  • After an update, my touch is no longer recognized by iTunes or USB input on car stereo

Formerly I was able to connect my touch to both iTunes (Windows) and through USB on my car stereo (Kenwood).  After updating the touch's IOS I cannot connect to either.  I am able to connect to the car stereo through blue tooth.  I did open an iCloud account for the touch but I doubt that is a factor.  I have tried turning the unit completely off and that does not help.  I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it making certain I used the 64-bit version.  It is still not recognized.  Any ideas on what to try next?

As it turns out, this was a hardware failure.  One of the pins on the bottom connector was bent and  caused the problem. What burns me is the problem initially showed itself after updating to ios 5.0.1.  I tried a reset over the weekend (including deleletion of my entire music collection) to no avail.  I took it in to the local Apple store today and they essentially turned it into a paper weight.  After putting it into recovery mode the unit would no longer turn on at all.  Unfortunately they wouldn't replace the unit for free because it was 11 days out of warranty.  I could have lived with the Touch with all my music on it, but it was worthless after the music was deleted.  I feel like they should have replaced it for free.  I was planning on upgrading to the next iPhone but this has shaken my confidence (as well as irritating the living **** out of me).
To be fair, Apple did replace the player at a reduced rate.  That was better than nothing.

  • After iOS5 update, iPod no longer connects to car stereo

    Hi,
my husband and I both have an iPod touch 4th generation.
We also have a Dodge Caravan with a car stereo, that lets up hook up the iPods and control them over the display. The cable does not charge the iPods, but we knew that.
I have updatedt my iPod a while ago and never encountered any problems with the car stereo.
My husband updated his iPod to iOS5 today, and the car stereo does not connect via the cable. On the iPods display it just says, an error has ocurred.
Would that be a hardware issue? The iPod is a month or two past warranty. We already tried restarting and resetting the iPod (not to factory settings).
Is there maybe a way, to return the iPod to iOS4?
    Thanks for any help

Sometimes, when you cannot "see" your ipod, it is because the drive that was assigned to the ipod, when you connected it, is already being used by the other devise. Your ipod is connected, but is "under" the other item, which means that you have to disconnect that item, so that you can "see" it. It will not be one of the drives that are normally associated with the computer like the C drive, or the ones assigned to your disc drives. It would be a drive that was assigned to an external devise, or another USB devise. This may or may not be your problem, but it is worth a shot.

  • Car Stereo No Longer Recognizes iPhone after iOS 7.1 Update

I connect my iPhone to my car stereo with via USB (the stereo doesn't have bluetooth) and now after the iOS 7.1 update, it no longers works in my car. My stereo displays an error message of 'iPod err' when I connect it. I've used this same car stereo and USB cable to connect my iPhone for years without any issues, until the 7.1 update a couple days ago.
Anyone else having this issue? This is real frustrating.

In another thread on this issue, Brendan writes:
Turns out restarting my car and/or rebooting my iphone "fixed" the issue. Apparently this was unrelated to the iOS 7.2 upgrade. Honda + iPhone has been rock solid (even if the Honda Fit UI is terrible), so I'm not sure what to make of this problem. Maybe a glitch? Who knows.
Here is the URL for that thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/25211736?ac_cid=tw123456#25211736
His suggestion worked for me: turn off your car, completely shut-off your phone and let it sit a few minutes. Then reboot phone and start car and try again.
    Good luck!

  • IOS6 bluetooth connection with car stereo

With my iPhone 4S running iOS5, my after-market car stereo bluetooth was able to read my song name, artist name, ect. Now that I upgraded to iOS6 my Kenwood receiver cannot read this data while connected via bluetooth. Since the data can't be read, the steering wheel control to search/skip a song forward or back also no longer works. I tested the car stereo last night with an iOS5 phone and it worked correctly, so I know the problem is related to the bluetooth iOS6.

  • Any ideas on problem with ipod and alpine cde-9881 car stereo

I have an ipod 60gb v 1.2.1 and a new Alpine car stereo with Ipod connecting cable. When connected, the stereo message reads IPod searching. It never assumes control of ipod,or quits searching. I have reset and restored my ipod, had the apple geek at genius bar check it out. My ipod does not play on the alpine ipod ready stereo in my husband's car, nor the stereos in Car Toys. My husband's 30 gb ipod plays on the stereo in his car AND my car. Help! Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Alpine is telling me it could be a software problem with my ipod, and to revert to an earlier version of itunes. But my husband's ipod works in my car. So I did a restore using his computer and itunes....no luck. am interested in any ideas on a possible solution!!
    Thanks in advance
    md

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

  • Ever since I downloaded the iOS 6 update, my car stereo no longer works like it did before

My Pioneer car stereo worked exactly like it was supposed to with my iPhone 4s. By syncing to the car stereo, I could listen to all of my music on my iPhone and receive Pandora in the car.  Since I downloaded the iOS 6 update two weeks ago, my car stereo has basically become inert, no longer syncs to my iPhone and has turned my expensive car stereo into a glorified CD player.  I googled this problem first and noticed many other people had the exact same problem that I have.  Since I can't undo the iOS 6 update (****, I wish I could), is there anyone out there with a similar problem and is there anything to remedy this problem. I will never download an Apple update again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would love to see an update on issues like this.
I have the pioneer avh-3400bh.  Prior to iOS6 on my iphone 4, everything worked as it should.  Upon updating to ios6 on the 4, and now also with the iphone 5, my head unit will play BT audio, but it receives no track/data information.  Using USB, I can no longer use my phone to browse songs, I can only use the head unit control.  the phones tell me that an accessory is connected and won't allow me to do anything.  Same for the pandora app

  • IPod Touch 3G w/ stopped working with car stereo/docking speakers

After I upgraded to OS 4, my iPod Touch 3g stopped working through the USB port of my car stereo (just says "reading" and never progresses from there). It also stopped working through the docking station (basically a large clock radio) that I bought for my living room -- it will recharge and play music through the speakers but the docking station and its remote can no longer control the music (can't advance to the next song or anything else), so I have to physically change things on the ipod itself.
I was told by Crutchfield (where I'd purchased the car stereo) that this was a known problem with Apple -- that with OS4, many of the devices that previous worked with iPods no longer worked, and that this would be resolved in a later version of the OS that would provide some backward compatibility. However, I can't find anything at all about this.
If anyone knows more information about this, or has a link to where I might be able to read more, I'd appreciate the info. I selected and installed both the (almost new!!) car stereo and docking station specifically because they allowed me to connect and control my iPod, and now I've lost that functionality and the $$ I put into those devices (over $300 total)!

I apologize for posting a bit early.  Found an Alpine manual online and i needed to set the AUX port to off.  They also recommended a reset of the Touch.  After doing these two things it is now working.  Maybe this will help someone else.

  • IPhone 3G no longer charges from car stereo

    Hello all,
I can no longer charge my iPhone 3g from my car stereo since updating to version 2.1.
I have a Panasonic CQ-RX400U with a USB connector on the front. Prior to the update I was able to connect and charge the phone and play the iPod from the stereo using the USB to iPod/iPhone cable. There was a compatibility warning on the iPhone when I did this, but it worked. After the update, the phone makes the initial charging sound, but never gets to the iPod, then repeatedly tries to connect without success and continuing t make the charging chirp sound.
Just wondering if anyone experienced similar issues post 2.1 update.
I'm going to ask Panasonic if the may have an update available as well, to correct the problem.
    Thanks,
    Bob Y.

I'm afraid that the link is somewhat irrelevant to my problem.
The problem is, that nothing happens whatsoever, when I connect my iphone to my computer. No charge, no nothing.
I connected my fiances iphone to my computer and it charged, and itunes recognized it without any problem.
However, I did try what the link suggested and nothing worked

  • Why does my ipod no longer work with my alpine car stereo

my ipod connects directly to my alpine car stereo and up til now it has worked great. i recently synced my ipod to my computer and i think it updated the software on my ipod and now my ipod no longer works with my alpine stereo. what is up? did apple change something that would make my ipod no longer compatible with my car stereo? if so, what do i do? i have about $1000 invested in my car stereo and ipod specifically for car use. this is a serious issue for me! i just want my ipod to work like it did…
i just connected my friends ipod and it works fine. he has version 1.1.1 software on his. i have version 2.3 on mine. since my ipod works fine by itself i’m assuming that the incompatibility between my ipod and my alpine is due to the software update.
here again, what do i do? how can i get an older version of software back on to my ipod?
    ipod v.2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

what kind of connection do you have? do you use the ipod 30 pin cable that connects directly to the head unit? it so, maybe you could get help on the alpine site, or a similar site?it could just be a bad connection. you may just have to go oldschool and use rca cables and plug those in...

  • IPhone 5s no longer works with my JVC car stereo after upgrading

    Hello!
I updated my iPhone 5s to ios8 last Wednesday (the 17th). When I drive, I synch my phone to my car stereo system (a JVC unit -- I can't recall the model number but it was installed just a year ago). After the upgrade, it worked fine. But on Sunday morning the phone experienced a hard crash and I had to reboot it by pressing the home and sleep buttons together. The phone came back without any further incident.
When I tried to make a call later that night I found that instead of my phone being active on my phone it tried to play music instead. I couldn't figure out how to stop this, so I turned off Blue Tooth. And now, when I try using the phone the Blue Tooth seems to synch up, but the phone cannot dial out -- I get a "called failed" message on the car stereo screen. If I look at the phone, I see that the phone has been activated, but it isn't dialing out. And then the phone will make bogus calls to an unrecognized number, or to a non-number. It will do this every 30 seconds or so. If I dial the phone manually, the Blue Tooth seems to work and I can talk to people hands free as usual. But when the call ends (and I don't always have a "call end" button showing on the JVC screen) the phone will again attempt to dial a bogus phone number.
The only thing that has changed is I upgraded my iPhone to ios8. Are there known issues around Blue Tooth connectivity? I also reset my phone to factory specs and reinstalled ios8 from my PC via the Lightning cable. This didn't change anything (I did that on Sunday evening). The Apple trouble shooting pages are of no help with this (I've already looked at them). I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me -- I think I've tried everything I know to do.
    Thanks!

I upgraded to ios 8.0.2 and it still won't work. The phone will synch to the JVC blue tooth, but will not dial out. The phone is activated and it has the screen that indicates it is dialing but it isn't. And then the blue connection drops and won't reconnect.

  • Issues with USB connection to car stereo

I just got an iPhone a few weeks ago, and generally it's great, but I have frequent issues when connecting it to my new Pioneer DEH-P3100UB car stereo. I think it may be kind of new in that it doesn't have a "special cable" for connecting to the iPhone, it just uses the typical USB sync cable.
When I see the problem, the stereo reports error 19, which the manual calls a communication failure, and suggests turning the car off and back on, unplugging and replugging the USB device, or switching to a different audio source and then back to USB.
Generally, none of these suggestions work, but power cycling my iPhone always does. This doesn't seem like it should be necessary. Has anyone else had problems like this? Is this a problem with the iPhone software that might be addressed in a future software update?
    Thanks!

    Hey jrbapple,
Keeping your iPhone updated is a good idea. If you iPhone isn't already updated to iPhone software 2.2.1, try updating it now.

Does the car stereo have the "Works With iPhone" logo?

  • Can't copy iTunes or Library music to CD that will play in my car stereo

I am having problems burning purchased iTunes (and my own CDs in my Music Library) to a CD that I can use in my car stereo.
I've read the articles on how to do this, but it's not working for me.
The purchased CD is in the AAC format as are my own CDs that I loaded into the Music Library. Audio CD is selected in the Preferences>Advanced>Burning tab. I'm using CD-R music CDs by TDK. These CDs have worked in my car stereo without a problem (when I've done an exact disc copy of a CDs I've purchased at various stores). The car stereo is a factory installed multi-disc CD player in a 2005 Lexus.
Before trying to burn a CD in iTunes, I create a separate playlist and copy the songs I want to burn to that playlist and then select the Burn Disc button. The burning process works just fine. However, when I look at the contents of the burned CD, it only contains 1KB files (one for each song track). When I look at the properties of the files on the CD, it says the files are to be opened w/iTunes. Well, that totally defeats the purpose...my car obviously doesn't have iTunes.
Everyone else I talk to says they just hit the Burn disc button and they get a CD that works in their car. What am I doing wrong???
I've also tried re-importing the burned CD (w/the 1kb files) using the AIFF format and then burning a different CD w/those newly AIFF imported songs, but I get the same result (and waste another CD)...1kb shortcuts...
Oh, yeah, and I have TWO Dell computers (both w/the newest version of iTunes (7.0.2.16). I tried burning a CD on BOTH computers but got the SAME result (nada) on both.
From searching on the message boards, no one else seems to have this problem...what am I missing??

    Nevermind...apparently I have no clue what I'm doing...it works...

  • After updating to 4.3.5, my iPod Touch nolonger works on my car stereo! Any idea how to restore Version 4.3.4

Don't know if any other users have had this problem?
I have updated my iPod Touch (4th Generation) to the latest software version (4.3.5) but now I can no longer use my iPod Touch with my car stereo.
I drive a brand new Chevrolet Orlando, & until I updated to 4.3.5, My iPod Touch work perfectly with the inbuilt car stereo, including the steering mounted controls & displaying track names, artiest, album, Etc.
Ever since the update, I have lost the display on the stereo, but it still recognises that I have pluged the iPod in.
The only way I can get my iPod to play is by playing a track through the inbuilt speaker (on the iPod) & then plugging it into the car stereo.
When I do this thou, I have no control over what is being played as I am unable to skip tracks/play list/Etc & I have no track information, which I could do when my iPod Touch was running software version 4.3.4 & below!
Is there any way I can reinstall version 4.3.4? I have tried to do a restore through iTunes, but it keeps installing 4.3.5! I have tried to reset my iPod, but again it reinstalls 4.3.5
Any help & advice would be great!
    IVA

Just to add a bit more information here! LOL!
Tried the followind devises on the car stereo & here are the results -
My Wifes iPhone 3G running iOS 4.3.2 = Worked fine!
My Sons iPhone 4G running iOS 4.3.4 = Worked fine!
My Sons iPod Classic running iOS 2.2.1 = Worked fine!
My Daughters iPod Touch (3rd Gen) running iOS 4.3.3 = Worked fine!
I think this rules out the problem being with my iPod Touch, as it is the only Apple product we as a family own which has been updated to 4.3.5! The rest of my family are now holding off updating there's! LOL!!
