CD burner not recognized?

I just burned three CDs. Now, it's saying "disc burner or software not found." I ran the diagnostic and it says,

Force Optical Power Calibration before burn is turned on in the preferences.
The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive D: HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4040N on CDR media at speed 0X."
That might be helpful, if I knew what it meant.
This happened a couple days ago. I ran the diagnostic, closed ITunes, and reopened it. It was fine. But that didn't work this time. It's the updated ITunes 7, of course.
Thanks for any help!

  • DVD burner not recognized in Leopard by iDVD 7.0.1

Not exactly the same problem I found in my searches, so made a new topic.
Setup: G4 tower, dual Giga Design 1.8 GHZ, 1.5 MB RAM, Pioneer 109 burner.
System Profiler shows ability to burner everything including +r DL.
I had to use a 3rd party hack to get iMovie 7.1 installed. Leopard did not recognize my 1.8 processor as legitimate. It would recognize it if downgraded to 1.7 GHZ, but I chose not to do so. iMovie 7.1 (iLife 08) now launches and works, but I used iMovie HD to make this project.
    1. I have burned other DVDs in Leopard with this DVD burner successfully, including a usable (proven) backup of my Tiger and Leopard DVDs, both DL.
    2. I have over 100 GB space available on my Startup drive as well as 80 GB on another internal drive that is storing the iMovie project. The imovie project in question is 15 GB.
    3. After creating the project in iMovie HD, I exported ("shared") to iDVD 7.0.1, chose a built-in theme and started the burn process. All was going well, so I went to bed. G4 set never to sleep for this project.
    4. Next AM found that "error - .... disk not burned due to burner not recognized (error xxxxx). Didn't get the exact error number, but the iDVD project, when saved to Desktop was only 137 MB. The iMovie HD project is 15 GB, so iDVD should have created a project about 3 + GB.
    5. Have NOT tried Apple Hardware test. Doesn't make sense to do so when the burner works fine in Leopard for other projects.
Is this problem due to iDVD 7.0.1 failing to be compatible with my G4 configuration like iMovie 7.1? Got no warning when installing or launching iDVD from iLife 08.
Any suggestions? I hope I've given enough useful info.
Incidentally, I'm not in a corner, as I copied the iMovie Hd project to a fW drive, and then used iDVD 7.0.1 on my MB Core Duo to render and burn it. Just want to find out what the problem is with my G4.

I'll try that. It may work as it is not iDVD making the determination if the optical drive is "qualified" but DU. As I said in my original post, I have burned DVDs in this internal burner using Leopard and a Finder Burn Folder. It is only iDVD that is between me and success.
I did manage to get the iMovie HD project burned using iDVD 7 on my Intel iMac. I will try editing another iMovie HD project, exporting to iDVD7, and saving as a disk image to a FW drive. I will report back the results, but it may be a day or two before that happens.
I should also probably try the same routine that failed on the chance that it was just a fluke.

  • DVD content/burn not recognized

Approx half of my previously recorded DVD's content not recognized. The DVD is recognized as recordable (unused) when inserted, but actually has been burned and contains content. Content is mixed... RAW files/Aperture projects. Running on OS 10.6.8, 17" MBP.
    Any suggestions?

If you can't boot from a recovery disc by turning the machine on, the drive is malfunctioning. Time for a repair.
If you simply can't see it in My Computer, see this document.

  • External Pioneer 116 Burner Not Recognized

My Pioneer 116 (Firewire) in a Bytecc case is now not recognized. Anyone else having difficulties? Printers work, don't see why this should have issues, but now I'm stuck using the internal Matshita, which I really don't want to use.

Same problem with my Pioneer DVR-111D, tried the suggestion of switching from Firewire to USB, it works. Burned CD in iTunes, OK. Have not tried to burn DVD in The Burn Folder (my homemade iMovies). However, I did make 4 nice coasters last night until I found this post. OS 10.6 needs to work with Firewire connection.

  • DVD burner not recognized

I have been thru 2 external DVD burners Maxwell & LG with USB connections. Both worked OK until I used Lightscribe then they are not reconized. They show up in system profiler but dvd icon will not come up on desktop. I threw out light scribe, disconnected the drives and still will not work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

Yes OS is up to date. I signed into a basic account and it still does not work. Disk Utility say the BURN is unsupported but sys. profiler say BURN supported Generic. See images

  • DVD burner not recognizing DVDs

I've had a mini for quite some time now, and recently in the past few weeks I've had a strange problem where it no longer recognizes burnable/burned DVDs. CDs work fine, retail DVDs on movies work fine, but I am unable to access any of the things I've burned myself.
I've tried 3 of the types of burnable DVDs, and have even dug up some of my old DVDs I burned myself on this computer and they all do not mount. I've checked the system info, and the drive is still being detected as a DVD burner, so I am at a complete loss as to what could be causing this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm having exactly the same problem as this.
The last discs that I burned would have been in October/November, and after that I noticed that the Mac would no longer recognise burned DVD's.
As I need to burn some more discs I've been testing in the past few days and can confirm:
    1. Will not read from burned DVD-R
    2. Will not recognize blank DVD-R
    3. Will recognize blank DVD-RW, but will not burn to them
I'm now searching around to see if it's a hardware or a firmware problem.
The data on the drive from System Profiler is as follows:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-835F:
    Firmware Revision: GGND
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media: No
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks in advance.

  • External DVD burner not recognized

    February 2014 Mac Pro
    Final Cut Pro X
A DVD burner and an LG BluRay burner.
I believe the reason why I can't seem to burn either type of disc anymore is because I have plugged them into different USB ports over the many days I've been using these devices. They work fine on other computers and were working fine on this one, but Final Cut Pro uses a "Create Disc" program that I believe gets confused by which disc drive is to be used.
Final Cut Pro X completes the transcoding and goes to burn the DVD or BluRay disc (depending on which I selected in the Share menu) but nothing happens anymore.
How do I flush the hardware cache (if there is one) and restart with these external devices. The Mac Pro only has 4 USB ports but I needed more so I swap out the cables from time to time as I sync iPhones or upload memory cards to iPhoto.

    Found my own problem.
I use a program from Jeppesen to download FlightCharts for my Garmin G1000 on my MacPro called JDM. It loads an app called JSUM that doesn't close or exit cleanly after using the software. This service utility interferes with the USB ports and prevents a whole host of devices from working properly. I had to use Activity Monitor to close JSUM service and then rebooted. (I also deleted the app)
    All was returned to normal!

  • DVD Burner not found

I have recently installed a new DVD burner on my PC however when I tried to burn a DVD from Premier Elements it states that the burner is not found.
I have however been able to burn a disc when using AVCHD as it finds the burner.
The drop down for the find burner location is alos blank and not letting me find the drive.
Does anyone have any suggestions as top what I can do to get the dvd recognised.

This is now the 4th old post (this time only 1 year old instead of 3 to 4 like the others) in which you are sharing the same generalized report on what worked for you with a burner recognition problem. In each of your other threads that I am finding, I am asking for the following same supplemental information from you, information which I feel is important to your shared content. So, I repeat
    endfates
What version of Premiere Elements are you working with and on what computer operating system is it running?
With what type of burner are you working where you had this burner not recognized issue - Blu-ray/DVD/CD or just DVD/CD?
What specific video codecs did you find it necessary to install beyond what was provided for by the program, QuickTime, Windows Media Player,
and the usual assortment of players?
Besides "burner not recognized", did you have any "media not present" issues as well?
This information would be important since there is a 4 year gap between since the last entry in this thread (2010) and your post in this thread
    tonight (2014).
    Thank you.
    ATR
Again, I point out that there are negative as well as positive aspects to the try this and try that "codecs". That is why I feel the requested information is important to the serial generalized messages that you are posting one after the other tonight in 1 to 4 year old threads.

  • Previously burned DVD's not recognized

Since I upgraded to SL- I've started having problems with my Optical drive (I think).
Previously created older movies burned on DVD-Rs (G5 PPC) when inserted in my iMAC are not recognized as DVDs.
Instead I get a message that I've inserted a blank CD (not DVD) in the machine.
These movies used to play just fine on my iMAc and still do on stand-alone players.
My Mac further indicates that these are blank CDs -and can be re-burned (which should be impossible).
Also, if I insert an older DVD with a PAPER label, the optical drive spins down and stops dead.
    Non-paper label disks spin normally.
Am I looking at a failing optical player-- failed software, or both?
    any help appreciated.

"My Mac further indicates that these are blank CDs -and can be re-burned"
    You cannot "reburn" DVD -Rs.
"Also, if I insert an older DVD with a PAPER label"
As a precaution, never insert a DVD or CD that has a paper label. The drive heat can sometimes melt the glue leaving little pieces of paper inside the slot drive during ejections, burning, etc. Reason why I hate slot drives. Wish Apple bring back the tray drives.
If I were you, I would clean my drive "several" times w/a drive cleaner, repair permissions and restart the computer after each burning session.
If little pieces of paper are stuck inside the drive, you will have no alternative but to take your computer to a repair shop for removal & cleaning.

  • APE12, burned dvds not recognized, bd-r media does not recognized

I have a problem with burning with my PE12, I have a win7 64 bit PC, with following
    BD Burner: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH16NS40 from LG

All DVDs I burned with PE12 are not recognized on my HiFi BD-Player, ONKYO-BD-SP809

the DVD is RECOGNIZED on the burner (see above) in the same PC
Media is 8x DVD-R, and ONYKO and BD-ROM of course supports this type of media and I used the same medias in the past (Verbatim)
    Problem 2:

I thought, ok, so I burn a BD, I have BD-R media, which worked fine with pinnacle ...
I made a sample project (1min length) and try to burn it, but the burn menu shows the right device (F: in my case and the right name), but it tells me Status: there is no media inside! Allthough the media is inside the BD-Burner.
I am getting mad about it ... anybody can help me out?
    P.S:
Burner, BD-ROM, ONKYO and PE are updated to the newest firmare/versions.

Premiere Elements 12 DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc that will not play back on the ONKYO player....
If you take the VIDEO_TS Folder from the DVD disc that will not playback as DVD-VIDEO on DVD in your player and look inside it, do you find a file named VTS_01_1.VOB or possibily VTS_02_1.VOB? If so, can you play that file back on one of your computer players? These are video files.
Can you take the Premiere Elements 12 DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc and play it back on the computer with Windows Media Player or VLC player?
Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file.

  • When trying to burn a DVD, my burner is not recognized

I am running WinXP. I recently used Adobe Premiere4, for about a year had no issues with   burning. just recently, after creating the show from video shot with a JVC GZ-MG630 camcorder, then to share and burn, the rendering began and roughly 70% in, there was a dialog box < Adobe Premiere has encountered an error and needs to close>, my options were cancel or debug, by selecting either option, the program closed, and I would start over. I purchased Adobe Premiere9 thinking maybe my version was not compat with current updates, etc. i can import the video fine, create the show fine, save the show fine, when I select share and burn, there is a yellow triangle where my burner drive is and selecting burn I get < cannot burn the selected file( or something like that).>
how do I overcome this hiccup and get my discs burned like I used to?

    Welcome to the forum.
This ARTICLE contains a lot of general tips on a burner not being recognized, and offers some possible fixes. Often, it is other software getting in the way, or it might be just a simple firmware update needed by the burner.
    Good luck,

    Hi Rick:
Which burner did you install? You may need to go to the manufacturer's website and see if there is any firmware that you need to install.

    Ken Selvidge ([email protected])

I am not a computer savy person.  I just need to plug in and have the machine do what it should do.
Not a problem, but that indicates you have a lot to learn.
File extensions like mpeg, mp4., avi, wmv, etc. are just wrappers. It is like a box the audio or video content is placed inside. The audio and video content must be encoded with a codec before it is placed in the box. There are thousands of codecs. Not all are installed on your Mac. You must have the same codec installed that encoded the video in order to play it. So, while Quicktime does support mpeg wrapper, it may not have the codecs to decode the internal video.
Some programs have lots of the codecs available to them, like VLC, Niceplayer, MPlayerX, etc.
You can also get "plug-ins" for Quicktime that add codecs to Quicktime, like Perian. Although it is no longer being developed, Perian still works well.
Why is it so difficult? Probably because they are always working on ways to compress the video to get better playback.

  • USB DVD Burner connected to Portege 3500 is not recognized properly

I am trying to connect an HP DVDv 940e DVD Burner to my Portege 3500.When I connect the device it is not recognized and the device manager list it as an unknown mass storage device without driver. Where can I get this driver?

the solution to the question is: find a computer which will accept the external burner, look what the driver for the mass storage device is called. in my case usbstor. search your computer for "usbstor". there should be at leat 3 different files (.sys .inf and another one),copy these onto your computer, and when you try to install the mass storage device in the device manager, direct the hardware assistant to these files. it should accept the driver it did with me. If there are more problems after that use the same method, find the working drivers on the other computer and copy all files of that name to your computer, showing the hardware assistant where to look.
