Cellular auto modem powercycle

Hi
Can someone explain why this doesn´t work?
If the OSPF default-route goes away i want to powercycle the cellular modem.
Now it powercycle without control.
Actualy, we want the to powercycle only if the default goes away from global routing, not if it goes away from a VRF.
The config
event manager applet POWERCYCLE_MODEM
event routing network 0.0.0.0/0 type remove protocol OSPF
 action 2.0 cli command "en"
action 3.0 cli command "conf t"
action 4.0 cli command "service internal"
 action 5.0 cli command "exit"
action 6.0 cli command "test cellular 0 modem-power-cycle"
action 7.0 syslog msg "MODEM HAS BEEN RESET VIA EEM"
Thanks
/Daniel

You will have to check with the carrier about a plan with tethering. Then you can use the hotspot feature on the iPhone.

  • Bandwidth/Drive Space vs Verizon cellular modem

How much space does 1 hour of standard definition downloaded from ITMS consume?
I have a user who lives in the middle of nowhere and has to use a Verizon cellular USB modem to get online. He has a 5Gb per month bandwidth cap before the rate-per-Mb goes through the roof. He wants to download movies and shows, and asked if it would be a bad idea.
    Thanks,

A typical SD TV show is about 200MB and a typical SD 2-hour feature film is about 1.0 to 1.5 GB.

  • How do I connect to internet with Alltel Huawei (WAN) modem?

I'm trying to connect my brand new MacBook OS 10.5.2 to the internet through an Alltel cellular wireless modem. Model: Huawei EC228. I have activated the modem successfully through the supplied "Quicklink Mobile" software and I have signal bars, but I can't get it to connect. I get the following message (in Quicklink software): "Status: Error- Connection failed"
I have called Alltel tech support and they are USELESS for Mac. I have found one forum with info, but I still couldn't get it to work on my MacBook after trying their recommended fix http://www.evdoforums.com/thread9708.html
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can set up an Ad Hoc wireless network from your laptop, you could use it that way. Once again VZ Access Manager will not enter into the sharing part.
Plug these search terms into Google:
set up an ad hoc network
    You'll find lots of instructions.
    Best of luck.

  • WiFi or WiFi with Cellular

I need and want to purchase the new iPad as I am a professional returning for advanced schooling at a University.  My program begins in September 2012.  I am in a quandry as whether or not to purchase the WiFi or Wifi w/cellular service.  The university program I will be enrolled in is mostly online for working professionals. I will have to attend several live class sessions.  I live very rural, do not have access to ATT or Verizons cellular carriers.  I have only one cell carrier that is accessible where I live.  I access my internet through my carrier's cellular modem (one of those very tiny devices that plus into a USB port on my Mac Mini.  I love it!)  It works far better than any other satellite  internet services I have had.  I work in a larger community with a number of WiFi hotspots available and may even be able to use my work internet connection with approval.  Would I be able to use my cellular service' modem device to connect?  Again, it is not ATT or Verizon?

  • Wireless replacement for a long USB/Serial cable?

    Hi,
This is not a Labview related question, but I am looking for some input.
I need to have a long cable between the instrument and the PC (laptop is not an option), and I am looking for a wireless solution like this http://www.aircable.net/products/serial5x.php .
Does anyone have any experience with this. I am looking for something similar from a vendor that has good support and has about 300ft of range.
    Thanks.

I've used a wireless radio modem before.  I can't find a link to the one I have though.  I don't know if it could handle 300 ft.
It was kind of like this one.  http://www.bb-elec.com/Products/Wireless-Cellular/Radio-Modems/Industrial-Grade-Radio-Modems.aspx
Also look at this which will connect it to a Wi-Fi link.
    http://www.bb-elec.com/Products/Wireless-Cellular/Wi-Fi-Serial-Servers/Serial-to-Ethernet-Converter....
The advantage with this is you would only need on on the device end if  your laptop has wireless already.  But again, I don't know about range.

  • Lost my servers (other computers on local net)

Everything was working fine, until... Suddenly got a message that the connection to the disk on my Airport Extreme was disconnected. Now I can't figure out how to get it back - also lost my iDisk and the other McBook here in the house. Also lost the Servers heading in the sidebar of Finder windows. Just discovered I'm also unable to open the AEBS with Airport Utility, even tho I'm connected to the internet via that...
I can go to my computer, I can go to Go/Connect to Server... and they're still listed there, but I get a message back that says they are unavailable. I know they are available as the other MacBook can see the AEBS disk and we can all work the Internet (else I couldn't be writing this.) Local help file was of course no help at all (who do those things help?). Clearly something in this computer (10.6.3) but I can't figure out what. Have i lost Bonjour somehow? How do I get it back, if so?
    Thanks!

For the interested observer, this happened because my cellular/internet modem (Verizon MiFi - 4 1/2 stars for that jewel BTW) got turned on my accident and captured my internet connection, in place of the AEBS. That meant the computers and disk on my LAN really simply weren't visible - everything was working exactly as designed & intended.

  • Rebooting a 3g card on a cisco router

Is there a way to reboot only the 3G modem card on a cisco router without rebooting the router? We have a cisco 881G with a PCEX-3G-HSPA-A card and sometime our ISP ask us to reboot the modem. We use the 3G card has a backup connection. If we reboot the router, we will lose the communication with the head office. So this is why we would like to know if there is a way to connect on the 3G card and reboot only the modem.

  • Reload Router max. once/24 hr while other actions will run all the time within an EEM applet

I have an EEM script which runs on a track when it goes down, within the actions i have different other things to check and take actions accordingly and they are working fine. I want to include a router reload within the same applet which should only trigger once within 24 hrs., no matter how many times the EEM runs during 24 hrs.
    Here is my current applet:
event manager applet MyApplet authorization bypass
event track 10 state down maxrun 3600
     action 1.0 cli command "enable"
action 2.0 cli command "conf t"
action 3.0 cli command "service internal"
action 3.1 cli command "do test cellular 0 modem-power-cycle"
action 3.2 cli command "no service internal"
     action 4.0 wait 720
     action 5.0 track read 10
action 6.0 if $_track_state eq "down"
action 6.1  cli command "int cell0"
     action 6.2  cli command "shut"
action 6.3  cli command "controller cell 0"
action 6.4  cli command "lte radio off"
     action 6.5  wait 60
action 6.6  cli command "no lte radio off"
action 6.7  cli command "int cell0"
action 6.8  cli command "no shut"
     action 6.9 end
At the end i want to add another wait of 10 sec. and check the track state again, if it is still Down I want to trigger a reload, but when router comes back after reload and my EEM triggers again, i don't want to reload if the last reload was triggered within last 24 hrs.

The way you're using wait in this applet is not ideal.  It would be better, especially for the long wait, to have this broken up into multiple applets so that they can run asynchronously.  In fact, given what you want to do for this reload, that would be the better way to go.  If you configured a second applet at the end of this applet like:
    event manager environment q "
action 7.0 cli command "event manager applet reload-countdown"
action 7.1 cli command "event timer countdown 10"
action 7.2 cli command "action 1.0 cli command enable"
action 7.3 cli command "action 2.0 cli command $q config t$q"
action 7.4 cli command "action 3.0 cli command $q no event manager applet reload-countdown$q"
action 7.5 cli command "action 4.0 cli command end"
action 7.6 cli command "action 5.0 cli command $q write mem$q"
action 7.7 cli command "action 1.0 reload"
Then you could have another applet that reacts to the tracked object coming up.  This applet would simply unconfigure the reload-countdown applet.  Thus, if the track comes back up, the reload will not happen.

  • EEM in an EEM

The requirement is when the tracking object 12 is down, execute/create another event called reset-modem and it recursively run once every 60 seconds, until the tracking object 12 is up.
I’ve managed to come up with this configuration. Somehow Action 6.0 in the first EEM does not seem to be taken. I am think it could be related to the "" quotations. Can someone advise?
    event manager applet track-down
    event track 12 state down
    action 1.0 cli command "enable"
action 2.0 cli command "config t"
action 3.0 cli command "event manager applet reset-modem"
action 4.0 cli command "event timer watchdog time 60"
action 5.0 cli command "action 1.0 cli command enable"
action 6.0 cli command "action 2.0 cli command test cellular 0 modem-power-cycle"
    action 7.0 cli command "end"
    event manager applet track-up
    event track 12 state up
    action 1.0 cli command "enable"
action 2.0 cli command "config t"
action 3.0 cli command "no event manager applet reset-modem"
    action 4.0 cli command "end"

Here is what I got. I still believe it is because the action inside an action does not know where the actual commands starting from. I tried puting double quotes, it did not take the config.

  • Can I use my blackberry as a modem for my iPad cellular?

I'm not sure on how the iPad cellular uses its 3g functionality.
Do I need to insert my phone sim card into the iPad everytime I want to connect to the web using the 3g network?
    or
Can the iPad use my blackberry phone as a modem to connect to the internet?
(my blackberry is 3g and has modem functionality)
    Thanks.

If your device supports mobile hotshot (which is not a modem) then you can use that.  But if you are using an 8520 you do not have that feature.

  • Cellular modem is not recognised by Leopard

Hi. My CMOTech CCU-550 cellular modem worked fine with 10.4.10.
Since I installed Leopard, even after checking all the configurations I keep getting the message that "the device does not exist" when I try to connect.
My supplier tech support does not support (ie does not know anything about) macs...
Anybody out there with any ideas?

I'm using a HUAWEI HSDPA USB Modem to access the internet via GPRS 2G & 3G. (Vodafone NZ)
Activity Monitor in Tiger showed up and downloads in Network, in Leopard nothing.
Tiger's Internet connect is now part of Leopard's System Prefs > Network.
I use the modem status icon from there, on the menu bar, to get online.
Does System Pref > Network show the modem?
Do you have a Mac OSX disc from your internet provider? if so check for an update, reinstall anyway.
I often get the modem not found message after a restart. Unplug from USB count slowly to 10 and reattach, wait for a minute and try again. Try a different USB if available. If you have third party connect software from your internet provider try that, three or four times somedays. Try alternating with the menu bar option.
Mine tells me to use the Internet connect App which of course doesn't exist in Leopard. I use the menu bar option instead. Seems to take a while to get noticed some days
I use CheetahWatch software to keep track now Activity Monitor no longer works. It works, very well.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33154
    Hope this helps.
Cut out again with modem not found ~ only had to try three times
It wasn't any better with Tiger.

  • Why is Windows 8.1 causing my Verizon Mobile Broadband USB Pantech modem to auto connect/

Why is Windows 8.1 causing my Verizon Mobile Broadband USB Pantech modem to auto connect? If I turn it off in Windows Settings I can not get service. As I am on a 5 GB plan I do not want my internet running at all times nor do I want o have to disconnect from the internet every time I turn my computer on.

        mebpapa,
Hmm. That is a bit conflicting. After all, we don't want you to have to worry about usage running up or having to get disconnected each time you get on the computer. Ultimately, this is a software functionality of Windows 8.1 however. Have you noticed a high increase of usage when the auto connect is left on or are you just taking precautionary measures?

I am trying to make netctl to auto-switch to internet connection via this modem as soon as I plug it in.
Following Arch Wiki, I made internet via wvdial working fine:

Next, I tried to setup netctl profile for this modem, but my netctl mobile_ppp profile is NOT working:
    $ cat /etc/netctl/ttyUSB0-kymp | nocomment

    Interface=ttyUSB0

Thanks for sharing this bit of information. This solved the issue for me. But before fixing this, I also had to change the file at another position: I had to escape the quotes around the IP in the connect string setting the APN, so that it now looks like this:
    ${AccessPointName:+'OK-AT-OK' 'AT+CGDCONT=1,\"IP\",$(quote_word "$AccessPointName")'}
Without this change, I was getting errors like this:
    May 04 10:25:26 bppi chat[2105]: send (AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,"web.vodafone.de"^M)
    May 04 10:25:27 bppi chat[2105]: expect (OK)

  • How do i turn cellular on one month and off another with on auto-renew prepaid

how do i turn cellular on one month, off several months, when i am on auto-renew prepaid with ipad

I just called as directed by you and spoke for 20 minutes to Bridget.  Some
of what I was told was not making any sense...then I asked her if she had
any knowledge about how this works on Ipad and finally admitted she did
not.  Hopefully it is now correct although quite frankly I am not sure.
    She also
suggested I just call back and speak to someone else.  Unfornately today I
    do not have time.

  • Connecting through a G3 cellular modem

I want to remotely administer an iMac (OS10.5) in a location that does not allow connection to their network. The only way in that I can think of is through a G3 cellular modem. Bandwidth for such devices seems adequate for routine admin tasks, 600-1400 download, 500-800 upload. Anybody have experience with doing this?

(G3 = 3G? )Generally I agree with the other posters. Problem is there are too many variables to give a more precise answer. If the 3G "modem" is sitting under a transmitter it may be fine. At one (temporary) site we used a HSDPA router which worked well to remote desktop to one server.
However remember that cellular traffic has traditionally designed to be bursty in nature and high latency is often an issue. (high latency, narrow bandwidth etc scenarios are where you will see the great benefits of something like Citrix versus traditional MS Terminal Server)

I have been playing wiht the new PE 9 and it seems pretty nice but on my MAC it is a little sluggish at times (maybe it runs better on a PC). I have 4g mem on my 1 1/2 yr old macbook Pro with the new snow leopard. It is the demo so maybe that is why.
