Centering a layers-built site in a browser

I'm new to Dreamweaver 8 and I began building my site in
layers. My problem is, I can't get the site to remain in the center
of the browser's window. What I want is when the window is
maximized, the page will be centered. ...when the window shifts to
a smaller size, the page will still be centered. The site, however,
will remain the same width. All I'm able to change now is the
coordinates of the layers ... but what I guess I want is for all
the elements to be controlled by a "master" layer?

You are using absolutely positioned div. At least that is
what I assume
since you mentioned changing coordinates. The easiest patch
would be to wrap
everything in a "wrapper" div. Position this wrapper div
relatively, not
absolutely. Give it a defined width and set the margins to 0
for top and
bottom and auto for left and right. Something like this:
#wrapper {
width: 780px;
margins: 0 auto;
If you want to support the centering in IE5 you will need to
text-align the
body center and text-align the wrapper back to left.
#body {
text-align: center;
#wrapper {
width:780px;
margins: 0 auto;
text-align: left; /* Kill centering of text cascade */

• Desktop site in mobile browser scales text badly

Hi,
i want to display desktop site on mobile browser (chrome) just as it's look on computer but textframes are not scaled as it should and layout is corrupted (big text).
When I added metadata viewport width=device-width problem gone but then lightbox view is corrupted - it's show at bad position (not centered in viewport but form the top and shifted to the left side).
I don't want to make phone/tablet version of the page - there must be one version of the site displaying identicaly on desktop and mobile.
Thanks.

Hi,
This sounds like http://forums.adobe.com/message/5653011#5653011
It appears that you are comfortable with code. In that case, I would recommend trying the max-height:1000000px suggestion in https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=FontBoosting to disable "Font Boosting". Please let me know if that works.
Thanks

• I have built sites on my imac, mac mini and MBA all in iweb09

i have built sites on my imac, mac mini and MBA all in iweb09 is there anyway to get them all on the same machine ? (i use mobile me)

Here's what worked for me,
I have two sites, one I mad on my macbook and one I made on my iMac.
First go into the "Library" Folder. In there you will find a folder labeled application support.
Go into that folder and you will find another call iWeb. Your site is in there.
So I took the file for the site out of the iWeb folder on my macbook, and copied it to my
iMac.
I keep them separately. If i put the file from my Macbook into the iWeb folder on my iMac, it would replace the file that is already there. When you start iWeb it will automatically open from that folder.
SO to keep them separate and organized, and to open the one you want there is a little trick.
First copy them all to the machine you want them on.
Take all your site's files and keep them in their own folders in the location you choose.
Make sure that on the machine you are using there is nothing in the iWeb folder native to that machine. Just move that file to another location where you wont lose it.
Now, start iWeb. When you do, iWeb will prompt you to either create a new site or allow you to choose one from a location of your choice. Tada! That is when you can choose whichever site you want to work on from the location where you are keeping them.
Good luck.
What is your site by the way?
mine are www.kloran.com and www.myenglishimages.com

• Switching ownership of Muse built site

I'm trying to take over an externally built site for my company that is built in Muse and uploaded through an FTP. Although I have the FTP information the site still won't update. I'm not quite sure what I'm missing or doing wrong. Please help

I am able to connect with the FTP but when I update the files nothing changes on the site when I look at it live.
It's hosted through 1and1 but I do not have the login information and that, I believe, is where I can access the admin panel. So maybe that is something crucial I'll have to track down?
I already tried exporting into Filezilla and dragging my new/updated file to there. Still no change on the production end.
Thanks!

Help! My iweb app has just completely stopped working. It won't allow me to create a new site or open a previously built site. What should I do? Please help, my deadline is fast approaching.

What system and iWeb versions are you running? What happens when you double click on the iWeb application when trying to launch it?

I can't access a couple of newspaper sites from my browser, it keeps saying access denied as per below. Anyone know why?
You don't have permission to access "http://news.theage.com.au/" on this server.

• Muse-built site on business catalyst isn't loading on all browsers and devices

My muse-built site on business catalyst isn't loading on all browsers and devices e.g. the full-screen video widget doesn't load or play, the scrolling doesn't work. Any advice? The site is gulch.businesscatalyst.com

Once you add the domain to Business Catalyst and finish all the DNS delegation steps listed in the article for launching a site on BC, your old site will no longer load and users will go to the new BC site. Your old hosting then could be discontinued with whichever vender you used. Be aware that DNS can sometimes take 24 hours to fully propogate so you should wait to make sure that things are all loading properly. -j

• Centering my site in the browser

Hello there.
I've just finished building a website with a fluid layout. When I tried it in the browser, it's not centered. I tried adding

tags to the body of the HTML page but this didn't work... so how can I fix it?

• When using Live View, site looks great, browser testing goes crazy

I am creating a new website (and I am really unexperienced with Dreamwaver CS5). But when I check my site using "Live View" everything looks great, the way it is supposed to. Then when I go to test it in my browswer (Primary browser is Chrome) it goes crazy: I at first noticed that I had saved one copy as an .asp but then resaved it to .xhtml I did delete the first line of code already that the .asp file created as it kept giving me an error on line 1.
Then I tried to do a spry drop-down menu bar, which I have deleted since I thought I was doing something wrong with that and I should just stick to what I half-way know.
If I were to preview the template page it gives me this error:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 150 at column 76: error parsing attribute name
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
Here is line 150:
if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}
If I were to test the index.xhtml page in the browser, it ignores most images (all but one), and the first nav-bar (an editable region) appears to the left instead of under the header. The layout is totally ignored and everything is on the left-hand side of the screen instead of in a two column layout.
I am not testing this on a server just off of my computer.
I am assuming that the error has something to do with the .asp file I first did and when I resaved it, since I don't know what I would be looking for, is still in there screwing it up.
Here is the code from the template page:

1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.

Instructions

Be aware that the CSS for these layouts is heavily commented. If you do most of your work in Design view, have a peek at the code to get tips on working with the CSS for the fixed layouts. You can remove these comments before you launch your site. To learn more about the techniques used in these CSS Layouts, read this article at Adobe's Developer Center - http://www.adobe.com/go/adc_css_layouts.

Clearing Method

Because all the columns are floated, this layout uses a clear:both declaration in the .footer rule. This clearing technique forces the .container to understand where the columns end in order to show any borders or background colors you place on the .container. If your design requires you to remove the .footer from the .container, you'll need to use a different clearing method. The most reliable will be to add a <br class="clearfloat" /> or <div class="clearfloat"></div> after your final floated column (but before the .container closes). This will have the same clearing effect.

Logo Replacement

An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.

Logo Replacement

Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.

To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)

Backgrounds

By nature, the background color on any div will only show for the length of the content. This means if you're using a background color or border to create the look of a side column, it won't extend all the way to the footer but will stop when the content ends. If the .content div will always contain more content, you can place a border on the .content div to divide it from the column.

References Available! We accept cash, check, Visa, Discover, MasterCard

• Centering with layers problem

I have a problem centering a layer that has an image with
relative positioning. I've replicated this phenomena with some
basic code to make it easy to convey:
I would like to position a layer with an image that is
horizontally center to the page regardless of the screen
resolution. I created a div tag called "layer1" with the
appropriate descriptors below. This "appears" to center the image,
but when I take my pencil and measure the left and right of the red
box, it is clear that there are different measurements. When I
center text just above the centered image, it is immediately
apparent that the jpeg is not totally in the center. I've tried
looking at it in 800x600 and higher resolutions, all with the same
results.
This is a big deal since the more complicated code where I am
trying to center the layer with the image offsets images to where
the entire page looks jumbled.
I've attached the html code so you can see what I am doing.
The image is just a red box that I made with GIMP.
Can anyone see my error?

> regardless of the screen resolution
Just so you'll know, this is NOT a resolution issue. It's a
browser
viewport width issue. The same page will look the same on
*any* resolution
screen as long as the browser viewport is the same width in
pixels on all
screens.
Put a border around your "pseudo-layer" (it's not a layer)
and you'll see
that it is in fact completely centered on all browser widths
on any
resolution screen.

• X79A-GD65 8D problem with built in BIOS utilities (browser, etc)

Good day. I have my X79A-GD65 8D running for about a week now paired with i7 3930k. The board is working wonderfully, however there is just one issue. After installing winki from the cd and returning to the bios to use the built in browser or MSI live update, the white splash screen appears for a while and shortly after a black screen appears and remains.
Ive tried leaving the disc in the drive and have the browsre run directly from the CD but still no luck. I've also borrowed the install DVD of a friend of mine who has an identical board but it still doesnt work.
Please note that I am on the latest BIOS, version 1.7.
Any help will be appreciated.

Must be talking about Winki? The Software Application User Guide covers it pretty well how it all works and such. Using Live Update is not recommended to be installed or used. Do all UEFI/BIOS updates and driver updates manually from the downloaded files available at the MSI Websites.

• I have the latest Firefox, but I cannot open any sites from the browser. It just hangs. It used to be my favorite browser. Now I can't use it at all.

When I open the browser and ask for a Bookmarked site that I have used in the past, it will not open. The symbol just whirls and whirls. I used to do my freelance work via Firefox, and now I can't even get into the site.

I am the original poster, and I got rid of CA Security Suite & and loaded the Avast! which has some great features even on the freeware. No more crashes or freezing & yes I think there is a problem with CA & Firefox, but am not sure what it is. CA was a big time hog. I also got rid of my ISP and installed a Intellinet Wireless G PCI Card & now am completely wireless on my PC. Faster by far than what I was paying $50/month for & I use my Windows Firewall.

• Is it possible to make a link in a mobile site close the browser window on the iPhone?

I'm developing a mobile site specifically for iPhone users and on my home page I have a disclaimer saying something like do not browse this site while driving. I give them the option to continue by clicking a link or to close the browser by clikcinga link. So far I haven't been able to find a script that can handle that for mobile, or more specifically, the iPhone. Can this be done on the iPhone and what versions are limited to this feature?

Ok let me ask you IF the IT department of your workplace does NOT want OS X installed on "THEIR" (The Companies) computers because of what they think is some type of security issue why are you trying to go against their wishes and install OS X on a computer that is NOT owned by you.
That could cost you your job.
If you continue down this path you will screw up the Windows install and have to take the system back to the IT department to get it fixed. What do you think they will say at that point?
Do as you like but you would be better off just buying your own Mac computer if you are set on using OS X as your personal operating system.

• Can't browse to DP IIS site, but can browse the virtual directory. Content distributes, but client can't connect to SMS_DP_SMSPKG$ site to pull content

Hello everyone.
I have been having some issues at one of my clients where content will distribute, but cannot be deployed. This is a new ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 CU1 install, on Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 SP1. Single server, single site. DP and MP are both
installed on this box. I'm getting an error 80070002 when deploying a task sequence to install Windows 7, which is failing on the Apply Operating System step. The SMSTS.LOG file shows that it's getting an error 404 from the http://SERVER/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/<PKG
ID> website. I am also not able to browse this website locally.
Here is the SMSTS.LOG file I am referring to:

I also would like to note that I have been working with a Microsoft support for the past 4 days and have had no resolution. Anyone know what I'm missing?
Thanks!

Hi,
I would highly suggest that you avoid making any changes suggested in the forum if you're actively working with Microsoft on this.
I am no longer working with Microsoft support. They have had four days to resolve the issue and do not have a resolution. This is a new site for a client of mine and I could have rebuilt the environment in less time. I am reaching out to a
community of ConfigMgr experts as a last resort before rebuilding the environment.

• When I try to preview my site in the browser it will only show the tablet version.

Hello,
I am having an issue with 'preview in browser'. When I try to view the desktop version of a site in preview it will only bring up the tablet version no matter what design editor I am on. I tested it out on a few designs with tablet versions and those will only use the tablet version in preview also.
Any idea what is going on? I use Muse extensively and am ususally able to resolve any bugs that come my way, however this seems to be the only big issue I am not able to resolve.
Thank you for your time.

That solution is for after the muse site is published.
I have the same issue as iamDK. The preview in browser option only returns the tablet version, while the preview screen in muse works just fine. I exported the site as html and the tablet and phone version open just fine, but the desktop version still shows the tablet page. Incredibly frustrating. Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
John
