CF10 Update 14 and possible memory issues

One of my associates is complaining that since I applied the Coldfusion 10 Update 14 we are experiencing memory issues.  Has anyone else had issues with Update 14?
Just a System Admin fighting the good fight!

I’ll throw in that even if changing the JVM helped, it would still leave the question open as to whether/why Chad experienced a change in heap usage on solely updating CF.
Chad, really? Nothing else changed? I just find that so odd. I’ve not yet heard about it (or seen it) being an issue. Of course, update 14 did do quite a bit: beyond bug fixes it also updated Tomcat. I would be surprised that that could lead to memory leaks (assuming that’s what this is, if really NOTHING else changed).
What about the database you’re using?  Update 14 did change the JDBC drivers for Postgres. Are you using that DBMS?
Just trying to think what else could contribute to this, if indeed nothing else changed for you.
It is possible that something else changed, either in the config or coding (and you didn’t know it), or perhaps in the load against the server (I see that all the time: someone adds a new site, perhaps brought over from another server, and they assume “it doesn’t get much traffic”, but they don’t realize how heavily spiders and bots may hit that newly added  site, which could definitely put pressure on the heap whether from increased sessions, caching, and so on.)
Of course, you can always uninstall the update easily, in the same CF Admin page where you install it. That would help you prove if that alone was it. (Just be sure to rebuild the connectors back to the version as per the CF update you would revert to. I don’t think it’s appropriate to run the update 14 connector with an earlier update.)
Finally, FWIW, if you really wanted to go nuts, you could change CF to using Java 8. That’s another thing added in 14: support of 8. But to clear, it does not “change it” for you, so that’s not what happened here. But just as the two Carl’s proposed changing the  JVM to see if it “would help”, you could consider moving to Java 8. That’s all the more worth considering if indeed the issue is that something changed in your environment (config/code/load) and you simply do need more heap (in Java 7).
Of course CF will use the same GC you have specified even if you update it to use 8, so you may need to make some changes to see a real impact. But for instance one thing Java 8 does by default is no longer use the permanent generation. That should have no effect on your your observed use of heap. Just saying that 8 is indeed different, and you never know if updating to it could help (or hurt. It’s so new that CF supports it in 10, and only to come in update 3 of 11, that there’s relatively little known experience about the combination.)
Anyway, do let us know if you find more.

  • N86 hard format and restoring / Memory issue

    Hello Nokia hello all,
I have an issue in my N86; after a simple restart I got memory crroupted in E:/ and external memory. and the phone doesnot working properly. I did hard reset according to the available instructions but it does not change anything.
currently I caanot store anything in the E:/ drive because I lost it after a few days, and also the external memory is crroupted and does not open.
    please your urgent help.
     best regards,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Have you checked whether Nokia Suite upon PC gives you the option to re-install existing device software?
When you say "hard reset" was this *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by user) or three key depressed power on reset until Nokia "Shaking hands" logo appeared?
As your N86 supports UDP = User Data Preservation you haven't restored possibly corrupt settings?
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • A88XM-E35 and PC1866 memory issues

Hi, I’m having a problem with my MSI A88XM-E35 motherboard.
The system doesn’t boot at all when I install PC3-14900 (1866) memory.
    The memory kit in question:
    8GB KIT Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 1866 CL10 1.5v
I’ve tried with two different 1866 sets just to be sure the kit isn’t broken.
Doesn’t boot either with only one module installed.
The system does boot and works with:
    8GB KIT Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 1600 CL9 1.5v
I’m running the latest BIOS (v30.3) with an AMD A10-6800K.
    PSU: Corsair VS350
I've already emailed USReview and their answer is to check the memory support list.
But there's only three 1866 modules listed on that list, of which two are Micron.
Crucial being a subsidiary of Micron only uses Micron memory chips.
I would say that if you only claim to support such a narrow selection of 1866 modules then you can’t claim 1866 support at all.
I'm building computers for decades and I never had to check any memory support list as long as I used quality memory.
Has anyone had success with any 1866 modules on this board?
I think it's pretty obvious that this board needs a serious BIOS update.

    I have exactly the same issue, a78M-e35 with 2x4gb ballistix 1866 CL10 && AMD A8 6600K
Memtest86 5.01 gives lots of errors when RAM freq is at 1866 in BIOS
Lowering it to 1600 => no error at all
Passed that test in an asrock mb at 1866 with no errors
I reflashed bios (last one in MSI A78M-e35 d/l page) with no results
Any other thing I could try?
    thanks in advance

  • MacPro and WinXP Memory Issue?

Hello. I am dual booting my MacPro with Leopard on a pair of RAID drives, and Windows XP on a third drive. The problem is that I have 16GB RAM in the computer. OSX uses all of it. But, when booting into Windows, it only shows that 2GB is being used. Does anyone know how to get Windows to use all of the RAM? I am NOT using bootcamp on the MacPro.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Vista Business or Ultimate 64-bit. I never used XP or Pro so can't help there, but I do know that 32-bit Vista won't see more than 1.9GB. Apple's EFI does not properly support memory.
Vista x64 does have support for installing and using GUID formatted drives and U-EFI 2.0 as of SP1 which is available as public RC1. I've been using Vista for 12 months.
The BootCamp 2.0 drivers add a time synch service and other features that are helpful, but not perfect yet.
I know I have some bookmarks about 64-bit versions and memory, but Mac Pro throws an unknown into the works. I'm hoping that next year's Mac Pros will have an updated EFI/BIOS. Not sure if we will see another EFI update - the last one added 20-30 seconds to my booting Windows, and no benefit that I could see.

  • Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4 and Parallels (memory issues)

I bought a 2011 Macbook Pro i7 2.2ghz with 4gb of ram, 5400 rpm 500gb hard drive.  Base 15 inch model pretty much.
I actually purchased it for a few reasons.  1) I had a 1200 dollar credit at a local electronics store and 2) I figured the battery life would be decent and 3) I was interested in playing around with Mac OSX a bit more.
Long story short I still need to use windows for various applications and for work.  So I purchased Parallels since it seemed to have pretty good reviews and installed Windows 7 in one and Windows XP in one.  Giving them 2gb for 7 and 1 gb for windows XP.  Now since I knew I wouldn't have enough ram, I upgraded my ram to 8gb and upgraded the hard drive to a 7200 rpm.
So this is where my problem is, I am unable to run both of them at the same time without Mac running out of memory and swapping like no tomorrow bringing the entire computer to a halt.
In general Lion seems to be pretty slow, even without any virtual machines running.  I have done a reinstall of the entire OS, repaired permissions etc.
So at this point I think I have come to the conclusion that the only solution is to again get more memory and go up to 16 gb, which is crazy in my opinion.  I also installed Windows 7 in bootcamp and then installed Vmware workstation and I can run 4 virtuals (1 windows 7, 2xps and a win2k3) before the base OS gets really sluggish, so it isn't the hardware, it is simply the OS.
Case and point is my other laptop a Lenovo W700ds (for anyone who has seen this thing, it is a beast and has horrible battery life.. one of the reasons I wanted the Mac) runs a core2quad and has 8gb of ram but I usually keep 3 virtuals up without any hit to Windows 7.  But it also only gets 30-45 minutes of battery life, while my Macbook Pro gets about 2-2.5 hours of battery life with the virtuals running however everything runs like crap so I usually have to suspend and only keep 1 at a time open.
My question being simply, is this normal?  Should better hardware have such poor performance or am I just expecting to much?  At this point my options are to install Windows 7 native (which i'd rather not do, I actually do like some of Lions features) or am I forced to buy even more ram?
I was also thinking of getting rid of the superdrive and moving my main drive there and then getting a 256gb SSD as the primary.  But it seems to me at this point I am just dumping money into something that should already do what I want.  This would split the hard drive access load though.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Honestly I would never run both Win 7 & XP at the same time in a VM. 7 needs at least 4GB to run properly and uses more resources then XP.
I personally use VMware Fusion and XP. At this time there is no software, that I'm aware of or use, that does not run on XP. So for my Mac Win VM purpose I only run XP with the software in need to use in Windows. This work very well for me. I have 2 CPUs and 3GBs of RAM assigned to XP. Leaving the other 2 CPU cores, 4 HT cores, and 5GBs of RAM for OS X.
Not sure why you need, or want, to run both versions of Windows at the same time. I don't see the need as stated above.

  • XML Unnesting and In Memory issue

I have a source table in oracle that contains a column (Nclob) that have XML messages and my target is BW data souce
I build my job like that
Source Table------Quey1 (to convert to varchar)-------------Query2(Unnest XML using extract_xml)-----------------BW Target
I successfully running the job with small test data in source (About 100,000 records) takes about 30 minutes
But when I running with the actual table contains about 140000000 it takes so long time my be more than 12 hours and never ending and it is affect the job server so I decide to kill the job
I checked the log I found that the job running in im memory mode instead of peagable because it is nested schema
I need help to enhance this job and let running successfully

Do you mean that I need to remove Query transform that do extract_xml from the column and instead of it use XML_Pipeline?
I tried but I found XML_pipeline only accept files not database

  • Procedure and Function-Memory issue

    Hi,
I have got code for maintaining cube. This code is generated by AWM while maintaining cube. This is nothing but the PL/SQL block with generated SQLs using following package and procedure.
    dbms_lob.writeappend
I am running this PL/SQL block by putting in procedure. It is working perfectly in procedure but due to system requirement I need to turn procedure into function. When I run the same PL/SQL block in function,it gives following error:
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
What is the difference between function and procedure when same set of SQLs are running successfully in procedure and giving error in function.
Can someone help me in this?
    Thanks

When talking about PL/SQL only, everything that can be achieved with a function can also be achieved with a procedure using out parameters, thus you don't really need functions.
However, a function may be used as a "syntactical convenience" in that you can write expressions like this in your PL/SQL code:
    total_salary := get_total_salary(dept_id => my_dept);
(assuming you have defined the function get_total_salary).
You may find this more readable than writing
    get_total_salary(result => total_salary, dept_id => my_dept);
(assuming you have defined the procedure get_total_salary with an out parameter result).
This is the same as with e.g. the CASE statement. You don't really need it, every CASE statement might be expressed with IF .. THEN statements as well. However using CASE may be more convenient and make your code more readable. Another example are loops, where you have different flavours, while everything might be expressed using one sort of loops (e.g. WHILE).
In addition, you may use functions in SQL, while this is not possible with procedures, i.e. after defining some function f, you may write SQL like this:
    select * from t where f(id) = 0;

  • Updated my phone. Memory issues.

i updated my phone, big mistake. now im getting storage almost full messages. I deleted almost everything from my phone. Earlier today I had 1.7gb available. I got the message that my storage was almost full again. whe. I checked it kept changing the amount available. it was different from the general page to the storage page. Every time I change screens the available amount changes. What's going on with my phone??

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

  • External numpad and possible debouncing issue

I'm using an external numpad for laptops that don't have one built-in. The device uses independent numlock design, which means if the host numlock state is different from its own, it would quickly toggle numlock on and off as you type. When using this thing under Linux desktop, there appears to some strong debouncing behavior and quick double taps get recognized as one.
Below is the xev sequence if I double tap Num_7 quickly. It's basically NumLock - KP_7 - NumLock, so only one KP_7 stroke gets registered.

This problem is only limited to X. Under other TTYs it's working as expected, so the device is doing its job. Under X, I've tried Gnome and XFCE, both with the keyboard debouncing options turned off.
The issue does not appear if both the host and the device has numlock on. In that case the numpad would only send the pressed keys without numlock toggles, and no matter how fast I tap it gets picked up. It appears that only the numlock key triggers debouncing behavior.
What is messing with my keys and how do I turn it off?

    hi Roy,
are you trying to call Lync federated domains too from Cisco video network?
how did you configure TURN server at VCS Control?
please note that if you are configuring MRA on your topology you will need turn off TURN service at VCS Expressway. and I recommend you check again your firewall rules

  • Help with 655 Max and Possible Memory Problems...

Just recieved my 655 Max and have put my system together, but when I turn it on it makes a constant beeping sound. I tried taking out both memory sticks, lol, and turning it on and the sound stops, I tried putting in one memory stick and the sound starts again.
I suppose this is a memory problem.
by the way I am using Corssair 256mb CMX256a-3200C2 memory.

[The alarm that you are getting is the CPU Fan Alarm you will have to diable it in the Bios. I am using a Vantec Aeroflow  heatsink and my CPU alarm also is constantly on and was very annoying till I disabled it. My system still doesn't boot to XP yet as I have RMA'd bothe the MB and Ram.   QUOTE]Originally posted by TritonB7
Hey Kaiguy the comp does continue to make sounds till I shut the system off. And I'm not sure how a standard pc tone sound would sound like, :(. But it does make beep followed by a lower pitched beep, and it repeats this till I shutdown the system.
    (1) I cannot Access Bios.
    (2) I have two sticks of Corsair 256mb CMX256a-3200C2 memory. I do not have any other ram available that will be compatible with this motherboard. Ive tried using one stick at a time in each of the slots. No Luck.
I highly think that both sticks not working is very unreal.
    (3) and reseting bios by the jumper isnt working either.
I can probably try buying some diffrent memory, or returning the whole mobo and exchanging it for the same one.
By the way on my monitor when i turn the comp on it says 8x Extreme or something close to it while the comp is beeping. I doubt that, that has anything to do with it. This is my first MSI board :( , I've always been an Asus person but Im still open for MSI i'm sure I just recieved a faulty board.

  • AI brushes and possible printing issues?

    Hello fellow creatives!
I have a project that I am considering doing 100% in illustrator CS6 for Mac.  ( Three character illustrations ).
The final files will be CMYK vector files.
I will be drawing the illustrations in pencil.  Scanning the pencils in, and using my wacom cintiq to ink and color the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator using the illustrator inking and bristle brushes.
The characters will be printed to be approximently 5 feet tall and 2 or 3 feet wide.
    Question:
What do I need to keep in mind to make sure that the sign printer doesn't run into printing problems with the artwork?
For instance:  Should I expand the apprearance of all of my brush strokes and gradients?  What else?
Thank you in advance for your input?
    Best Regards,
    Bill

How you export it is entirely up to you, but personally, I would do it as a PDF/X-1a:2001, Acrobat 4 (1.3), FOGRA39 file if you're in Europe. If you are not in Europe, then you may find that you need something other than FOGRA39. I do it like this because I can lock down the artwork and be confident that it's not really going to go wrong... but I understand print!
However, doing it as an industry standard format doesn't allow you to be lazy about checking for errors. I have seen people go to print without checking white text on a coloured background and the text disappears on press. In some instances (which I won't cover here), white objects can be set to overprint on a coloured background which basically means that the white disappears when you go to print. It may look OK in an unflattened PDF, but as soon as it goes to print through a RIP, it disappears... this is why I say to look at the PDF in acrobat by checking each page you create with the Output Preview. This panel allows you to switch the individual C, M, Y and K plates on and off to show you the mixes, overprints and knockouts of each object. You will also see spot colours if you have the need to use them.
If you flatten a PDF, it effectively does part of the RIPs job by creating the overpints and knockouts. A flattened PDF will be the first thing to show you that something is amiss.
Another thing to do is use the Attributes Panel of Illustrator, click an object and see if it's set to overprint. Do a test: Place a white object on a coloured background and set it to overprint, then export a PDF... there should be a difference when viewed in Acrobat.
In Illustrator, you could go to the menu View --> Output Preview and this will give you a view of how the file will print. It will show you how a file flattens and how solid blacks handle colours underneath them, but again, you will see this from a PDF/X-1a:2001 file.
I will employ a number of methods, but whatever way I go about it, I always end up using the Output Preveiw in Acrobat. On that panel is a checkbox called 'Simulate Overprint'... click it on and off, and if you see things appear and disappear, then there's a good chance it'll print wrong. Also click each colour on and off and make sure colour is where it's meant to be AND where it's not meant to be.
It sounds like a long process, but it's really not, it just adds a few extra minutes.
Having said everything that I have, somebody pointed this out further up the thread... if you're unsure, have a word with the printer as to how they would like it supplied; you never know, they may have their own joboption they can give to you.

  • Firefox lags after being open for too long, and has memory issues

After having FF on for like 24 hours it starts to respond slowly to typing in text boxes, clicking links, and generally lagging the entire system until I restart it.
Is there any way to fix this without restarting the program?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension as you do not need them to run Java applets.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions
See http://www.java.com/en/download/help/quickstarter.xml - What is Java Quick Starter (JQS)? What is the benefit of running JQS? - 6.0
Disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Addons -> Extensions<br />
Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)

  • Memory issues in java3d1.2(openGL ver) and 1.2.1-03 sdk(openGL ver)

    hi ,
i am working in java 3d and handling memory issues .I have made following observations.
In java3d 1.2 version, when we close a primitive ,(transform group,point3d,transform 3d release) about 80% of memory used by the primitive when it was opened.but point4d releases only 2% of memory.
on a contrary when i use java3d1.2-03 sdk point4d releases about 75% of memory and others(transform3d,transform group,point3d ) releases about 40% of memory allocated to them.
can somebody tell me if there is some kind of difference in these two versions related to memory?or is there any memory bug in the later version?
    thanks
    sangeeta

    hi,
We r using memory management tools like Jprobe and optimizer IT to count the rate of memory released.
    Thanks

Other than what you have already done, you should clear the cache from your browser and, if you use it, your Facebook app.  Also, deleting old texts can free up some room.

  • OS X 10.5.3 Update (Memory Issue)

Went through some misery the last couple of days after updating to 10.5.3
Adobe CS 3 would literally crash on opening. I tried uninstalling CS 3 and manually removing all existence of it and doing several reinstalls only to have it fail each time.
What a nightmare.. After hours of messing around I linked it to 3rd party RAM causing bizarre crashes after I upgraded to 10.5.3. Not sure if there is some issue with Memory and the 10.5.3 update.
I removed the RAM and everything works fine now.
Just thought I would share this with others possibly having issues.

I was hoping 10.5.3 would fix things for time machine/time capsule, I had issues with it hijacking my laptop and the network doing fsck_hfs. So I looked forward to fixes, had been doing only back up now, since having to reset everything. I tried it, it took an our to get past preparing, then had 15 meg out of 2 gig backing up, stuck there for hours. I finally killed it by dismounting the disk. When my disappointment reduces I may try a fresh start. I am sure they worked very had on it.
