CFieldPoint Relay Output?

Does there exist a relay output card for Compact FieldPoint - I was unable to locate one online...? I need to support 24VAC outputs.
Thanks!

The cFP-DI-330 has 8 Discrete inputs that can be used with input signals that range from 5 - 250 V AC or DC. The threshold level (the level at which an "On" signal is seen) will vary with the frequency. More information on the input levels can be found in the Operating Instructions for the module at the following link:

  • Forcing Relays via rs232

    Hello everyone,
I’m new to Labview and i would appreciate it if someone could show me how to make, or use an existing Labview VI to operate via RS232 (ASCII or Modbus) an external Power Relay Output (Advantech ADAM 4069), in order to switch on and off a vacuum pump.
The problem is that no Labview VI or driver exists yet from Advantech. However, according to the manual I have to send simple hex command like 0x01 for Set and 0x00 for Reset, through a serial port.
Product Page of Power Relay Output:
    http://www.advantech.com/products/8-ch-Power-Relay-Output-Module-with-Modbus/mod_1-2MLDJ5.aspx
The event which will set or reset the relay is a dc voltage reading acquired by an internal PCI Multifunction Card, for which several VI’s exists.
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • NI 6008 to control I/O Solid State Relay Omega DCO5-C

    Hi NI Community,
I am trying to use my NI 6008 to send a TTL signal for switching 12V DC in a solid state relay (Omega DCO5-C).  This relay is controlling the power to a solenoid valve.
For the solid state relay, "output modules receive TTL signals from the computer interface, and will switch ac or dc power lines on or off".   The LED light on the backplane light up when 5V is supplied, but I do not get switching of the 12V DC power.
Can I not send the appropriate TTL signal with my NI 6008?   Is there any way to create the correct signal?  I have read up on TTL signals, but this has been my only lesson.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

Not  at all.  You just need to know how to connect up an IC.  A quick look on Digikey: http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en/integrated-circuits-ics/logic-buffers-drivers-receivers-tra...

  • Instrument driver for ICS 4864 GPIB to relay interface needed.

This unit has 16 relay outputs and 8 TTL inputs and I intend to use it to drive a 6 to 1 RF coaxial relay as an antenna switch.
ICS dont have a LV driver for the unit (only HP Vee) so I'm after a driver for this unit or some pointers to something similar I could modify.

First, check the instrument's user manual to see if the GPIB and serial command sets are the same. Also check to see what EOS(End of String) characters the instrument requires. Then, do a loopback test to test communication in LabVIEW.

  • Labview program interface

    Dear all,
I have a some problem in running my labview program.
I intention is to generate an output voltage by using my machine (by Nanonis), thus I am using their program in Nanoinis program interface. However, I might have make some connection wrongly somehow as it is not working. I want to try controlling the duration of the output voltage, maybe like 10 seconds. However, I must have made an error somewhere in the program as no voltage is generated
I would appreciate if anyone can advice me on this matter.
    Thank you.

    Dear Lynn,
I understand that it might be difficult to understand with looking at the Nanonis sub vi's. Sorry about that. If I upload a PDF of the block diagram, would it help at all?
Anyway, I should clarify one thing about the program. Actually, previously, I have use the similar block diagram but I have tried to generate the voltage by using a DAQ. This time, since I intend to use the Nanonis programming interface (replacing the wire lines) from the relay output to the programming interface-Open App ref instead of the NI daq. I expected that it should work but unfortunately, although the program work for the NI DAQ, it doesn't for the Nanonis programming interface. Thus, I am seeking advice on what might had happen and what I should do. I am still a new in writing Labview programs, thus I really do appreciate to get all the advice that I can get.
    Thank you.

  • FPGA 7831R Damage

I incorrectly connected 13v to some DIO pins of my FPGA 7831R card and now they do not operate. The manual says 7v max for DIO.
The pins in question are the DIO 2,3,6,7 of the MIO connector and I was using these as DIO inputs to monitor 2 relays for activations.
On an activation I returned Hall pulses to simulate a motor movement.
I have moved my software to other pins and connected these to the 5v output from my target board as opposed to the relay outputs and it works fine but is there any way of repairing the damage ?
Is there SMD fuses for these pins that I can replace ?

    Hi,
If the board it self is damaged, I would advise contacting your local NI Branch to organise a return and repair. They will be able to process this for you. However, if you go ahead with trying to repair it your self, it might void the warranty.
I believe you are in the UK, please find the contact details here.

  • Charging and discharging multiple capacitors

    Hello,
We have a PXI system running LabVIEW 8.5 on Win XP.  We want to charge and discharge a bank of capacitors in a very controlled manner.  I was wondering if anyone else has performed a similar task and has some examples of the code to control a capacitor system.  We have a PXI-6225 DAQ card for our analog input from the V and I sensors, and a PXI-2567 relay output card to control the charge and discharge of the cap bank.
    Thanks,
    Munk

    Hi Munk,
It sounds like you have all of the hardware you need to build this application. If you need a good place to start, I would recommend using either the DAQ Assistant or the DAQmx examples to acquire data from your sensors. The Example Finder can be accessed through the LabVIEW Help menu. The DAQmx examples can be found browsing by task under Hardware Input and Output » DAQmx. The switching can also be programmed using DAQmx. A good example demonstrating the functions being used can be found along with the DAQmx examples under Switching. It seems that you will need to use one channel of the relay to connect the source to your capacitor and another channel of the relay to connect your capacitor to a resistor. These relays can be programmed to open or close whenever you want. It can be dependent on time or the sensor measurements.

  • Labview interfacing with NI cDAQ-9172

I currently have access to a NI cDAQ-9172 with a NI-9205 AI input
board and a NI-9481 relay control board. I basically have the DAQ
Assist tools for the analog inputs and the relay outputs, however, I'm
having trouble interfacing them together, such as if the two analog
outputs are above x Volts, turn on the relay control; otherwise, turn
it off. Do I need to create a task for a specific DAQ Assist tool in
order to control the behaviour of the relay outputs based on the
    analog inputs?

    Hello Stanley,
Let me try to address your questions in order:
    1. LabVIEW gives you the ability to program several design patterns
including Finite State Machine, Master/Slave and Producer Consumer.
LabVIEW even provides templates for these design patterns, which you
can create by going to the File menu and selecting New.... The image below shows where you can select from the different design pattern templates.
For more information about the state machine design pattern specifically, I would recommend that you examine this tutorial.
    2. I believe the "DAQmx Tools" you referred to are the DAQmx sub-VIs in
the DAQmx sub-palette. You must use the inputs (controls) and outputs
(indicators) to configure these VIs, there is no pop-up menu like there
is for the DAQ Assistant. However, you are able to generate the sub-VIs
from a configured DAQ assistant using the right-click menu, as shown in
the diagram below. This would allow you to configure your NI-DAQmx operation with the pop-up window, and then optimize performance using the DAQmx sub-VIs.
    3. Based on the description of your application, I would strongly
suggest that you consider either the state machine template discussed
above or the NI LabVIEW Statechart Module. This module is designed to
give you a higher level of abstraction for complex systems. Since you
already have a flow chart, it seems that it would be pretty easy to
convert that to a statechart to programmatically implement it. You can
see a video here on how to implement state machines in the LabVIEW Statechart Module.
If you have questions about how to architect your program specifically,
I would recommend that you post to a new forum. You are more likely to
get better insight and more relevant information on that topic if you
post a new question that reflects the appropriate topic.

  • Creating a task with a PXI-2522

I am trying to create a task with a PXI-2522 module, this is a relay output module and I need to create a digital output task.Simply trying to create a digital output task with MAX, the PXI-2522 doesn't show up in the supported physical channel list? I've tried creating the task dynamically in LabVIEW and that doesn't work either. I must be missing something really obvious?
I am using LabVIEW 2013 f2 with DAQmx version 9.8.0f0

The PXI-2522 is considered to be in our Switch family of devices, not digital I/O. You can still program it using DAQmx though. Check out the example code that ships with DAQmx and see which VIs to use. You can access these examples by going to Help » Find Examples » Hardware Input and Output » DAQmx » Switches. From here you can select which example is most fitting for your application.

  • CRIO; To FIFO or no to FIFO?

    That is my question.
My project is using a cRIO-9073   There are three analog input modules.  Two analog output modules, and one relay output module.  All are running in Scan Mode.
Currently I have the chassis with the modules installed on my desk.  But I am not connected to any real world IO.
I've done some initial testing with the host and target and I am now creating IO Alias Variables that I will use in my code.  However, I'm a little unsure about the types of variables I should be using for this project.  IO Alias Variables do not have the option of FIFO or any buffering that I can see.  But I'm not sure if I require that or not.
The project will have some monitoring and controls done on the RT Target.  A couple of the analog inputs will be set to trigger digital outputs if they rise above a setpoint.
The host will log all inputs to a database and keep a circular buffer of data in memory for display on a "live" graph.  There will also be some manual controls and access to the setpoints that the RT Target will use.
The process is slow.  The fastest data will be logged is once per second and nothing needs to react any faster than that.
So far, it seems very easy for me to just use my IO Alias Variables either on my Target in or my Host.  I would think that at the speed things will be operating, this method would be more than sufficient.  However we have a very short development cycle planned for this project and I'd really like to avoid any potential problems.
Can anyone with some experience tell me why this method may or may not have problems?
    Muchly appreciated.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Patrick,
If the samplings rates of your application are as you stated in your post, there really is no need to  switch to FPGA mode. Scan mode should be more than sufficient to get you all the data. Keep in mind you can go up to about 1Khz rate using Scan mode (given that your modules are capable of those rates). Also, using the Scan mode I/O variables are by far the easiest way to get your data over to the host. You actually just drag and drop the IO variables corresponding to your modules' physical channels directly into your PC Host VI. Overall, I don't see any problems with your design so far, but at the same time, you did not elaborate too much on the requirements of the project.
If you're looking for more information about the cRIO Scan Mode, I suggest the following:

  • Safari: Why does download stop with timeout?

Or when I change apps? sure would be nice if I could do a download in the background, while doing other things.

We have already placed a discreet button on the panel that is connected to one of the unused relay outputs.  When the modules lock up, pressing the button has no effect on the output.  We can try a button connected to the outputs on the counter module and see what happens.  Would re-installing the firmware of the 1601 possibly help?  I don't suspect a hardware problem with the relay mods, we have 3 in the bank and all 3 lock up and they worked fine before the 1601.  The 100Mbs led is on on the 1601, is it possible that is too fast?  Can we change a setting and force 10Mbs or would this make a difference.   We have the firewall settings disabled in Windows, are there any other settings pertaining to the network that we can try?  Exiting lookout and then starting it again usually re-establishes connection, is there some way to put a button on the panel and connect it to the command to reconnect or poll (if there is such a thing)?  We are at a loss!  So much for plug and play!

  • VB6 and compact fieldpoint

I have a request to add 4-20 mA and relay outputs to an existing VB6 application using compact fieldpoint.  Is VB6 still supported by the compact fieldpoint drivers/software, and if so, what is the recommended interfacing approach?

    Scott,
There does not appear to be nay reason why you cannot use VB6 with compact FieldPoint. The implementation of your application should be the same for FP and cFP.  Here are some articles that reference this:

  • Sharing ethernet fieldpoint

We need to build a redundant data acquisition system with 2 PCs, one of them would intervene whenever the other fails.
The task is to acquire data from some instruments and manage light and acoustic alarm devices using relays.
The question is: it's possible to use one (or more) fieldpoint for the relay output, given that programs on both PCs are running simultaneously?
Remark that actual writings on the fieldpoint should not be simultaneous, only one of the programs at a time need to manage this.

You can call an FP from 2 different PCs at the same time with no problems. You will need to determine which PC is the master so that the other PC will avoid setting outputs on the FP when it's not a master. You can place some code on the FP which will decide which PC is the master and inform the PCs.
The real trick in such a system is making sure that both PCs are synchronized so that when the master PC drops the slave can take over flawlessly. Another problem is what to do if you want to use the slave PC as a UI access point to your system. Since you have the same program running on both sides (so you can have your hot backup) you have to figure out ways to do things differently when the PC is not the master - it needs to send requests to the master which can then decide what to do. You also need to decide what to do with data which is missing because the computer was disconnected.
I have written such a system employing several PCs and FPs and designed to be extensible and I can tell you this is not a simple thing if you want full functionality in your slave PC and if you want to make sure you don't miss anything. What you might want to do is use a single PC as the UI PC and have both PCs log the data all the time and combine it later.
Try to take over the world!

  • Safe Shutdown of cRIO when Removing Power

I'm wondering how to manage the safe shutdown of a cRIO application on a portable unit where the user will be removing power (probably via an physical power switch) during normal operation. Normally, I would design an application with a Initialize_Running_Shutdown state machine, where the shutdown is initiated by the HMI sending a shutdown command, but this will not be the case here.
On a side note, I've also be wondering how to deal with this during extended power outages (once UPS power runs out, the control system dies).
How can we ensure that when power is removed, the cRIO sends the application into the proper shutdown routine?
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I was thinking it would involve monitoring either UPS or Line status directly. I've been spec'ing out a new type of UPS for my control systems (the one I had been using had no communications options) with a relay output card option for 24V logic.
What got me thinking about this was working on an OLD Allen Bradley PLC5 recently. It was all ladder-logic, and just had a power ON/OFF switch. Very low tech. I wanted to see if perhaps the lower-end PLCs aren't as sensitive to just loosing power as the cRIO might be, simply because the application is much simpler.

I am using labview 2013 as a dnp3 master to some sel relays.
I made this dnp3 file by modifing the example dnp files form NI.
Pls help me get this setting back.I have also attached an image regarding the same and also the labview file.
Do I have to reinstall Laview completly to get the old settings back.I am quite sure the files I made are working fine because I had checked it before trying to modify the CRBO(trying  to make it look simple)

You may have modified the typedef of the terminal CROB.
Reinstalling DNP3 alone will cure the problem, I believe. You don't have to reinstall LabVIEW.
