CFMAIL issues (strange symbols)

I'm using a very basic automated mail response for a form. It
simply notifies someone that something has been submitted. For the
life of me, I cannot figure out why these symbols keep appearing in
the top of each email. IT wouldn't be that big of a deal honestly
except that Time Warner and a few other hosts BLOCK the emails
right now.
The symbols are always the same and always at the top left
hand corner of the email

Any idea what's causing this? There is no special connection
to the mailserver. Hotmail gets the email fine, but anyone behind
Time Warner doesn't. Any suggesstions? My code is attached below.
I've tried specifying the charset etc. It doesn't change this
mysterious code that just... appears!

The symbols are usually a product of different CHARsets
between your mail server and their mail server (or browser in the
case of webmail)
i.e, an email generated using US-ASCII will show fine in
Hotmail, but one using anything else (default is UTF-8) will
sometimes have those characters in the top.
Having said that, I highly doubt the TimeWarner servers are
blocking the email because it has those symbols. They are more
likely blocking it because it comes from a server w/o RDNS or
because the X-Mailer flag is set to "ColdFusion" or because you are
using an email domain that has been noted as Open in one of the
Open Relay databases.
Funny characters in the body rarely stop email from being
processed.
OR ... it may be getting through just fine and ending up in
user's spam folders because it doesn't match certain criteria.
If you are getting return mail failures, look at the messages
(sometimes attached) and see what it says

  • Bug in Keychain. All characters are replaced by strange symbols...

    Hello,
For 2 weeks, I have a problem with the Mac OS Keychain.
All characters are replaced by strange symbols...
To see the bug : http://nsa20.casimages.com/img/2010/12/03/101203090829665703.png
    (my system is in french)
Do you know how to solve this problem, please ?
    Thanks...

Not a keychain bug, but a font issue. Restart and boot into safe mode as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US (you might need the French version), then do a normal boot. Once that's finished, launch Font Book, select all fonts, validate them and resolve duplicates, and restart. That should fix all your font issue.

  • Strange symbol when typing

݄I have noticed when ݄I am typing a message either in iMessage or email, when ݄I type the letter I, a strange symbol that looks like a question mark in a box appears in my message. ݄I can sometimes bypass this by clicking the x when the autocorrect box pops up, but it is very annoying. Has anyone else noticed this? How do ݄I stop it?

  • I have a MacBook Pro.  In incoming emails strange symbols are replacing the sender's name that is usually in bold.  Can anyone help?

Incoming emails are showing strange symbols where the sender's name used to be in bold.  The messages themselves are ok, it's just the sender's name.  Can anyone help me figure this out?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

  • I can't delete a file in the trash that has strange symbols (␀ ␀獭潤) in its filename.

There is a file in the Trash with a filename containing strange symbols, along with some Chinese characters. For some reason when I empty the Trash, all files are deleted as expected, expect this one particular file. The symbols are: ␀ ␀獭潤 — although some of the symbols I was unable to copy, which is probably why they are causing problems.
How can I get rid of these files? Even in Terminal it says that the file does not exist.

I'd like to point out that in my problem, the problematic file is actually on a USB drive, not on the Mac's internal drive. The USB is formatted FAT32.
Anyway, I ended up reformatting the disk since it's an external drive so it wasn't much hassle. It's essentially like nuking the whole thing, which is a bit overkill, but I couldn't figure out how to fix this since the two apps recommended by the link you provided (Trash It and Cocktail) both failed to delete the file.

  • Firefox 4 Beta has problem when printing shipping pages from Amazon Marketplace, it shows and prints strange symbols instead of the packing slip and the label. Do you have any idea why is that?

Well, I installed it 2 days ago and yesterday when I tried to print a packing slip and a label for Amazon customers it printed so many strange symbols that were nothing like what they are supposed to be, not even close. When I printed it with another browser it was all fine, so it is obviously a problem of the new version of my favorite browser. Probably something with the encoding, but since I'm not a computer geek, I cannot give more info. :(

'''If you go the the menu and click "Print Preview" then it will show normally, and will print correctly from there. You must do it this way the first time you try to print though, if you try to print (using the print command) and it is messed up, then it shows it messed up in the preview. It's not a cure, but works for now until this bug is fixed.'''

  • Strange symbols appear on my desktop, producing even stranger results!

Strange symbols appear on my desktop, producing even stranger results!

These symbols are for short cuts. could be a command to move text insertion point to beginning of document or if you have been in system preferences keyboard and clicked on the modifier key and set one of the options it would be for setting cap lock. Don't know why you are showing a screen  shot of it. Have you clicked on it. Have you been doing any work with documents. You could go to disk utilities and repair permissions or do an pram reset. Command/Option?P/R while holding down the power button for three chimes and release.

  • Why is my ipad displaying strange symbols?

I was wondering if someone could help me.
Just purchased an Ipad3 and found that the date (i.e. month) when displayed at the top of the screen is being shown in strange symbols/characters rather than specific text (saying "march" for example). When i go to settings, date & time, it again shows  strange characters here rather than the different months.
it is also displaying them in Mail when i check the date of individual emails and in calander.
    here is a snapshot:

can anyone help and let me know if this is a bug or if i can change it?

You may have changed the Language setting.
Set the language for iPad: Go to Settings > General > International > Language, choose the language you want to use, then tap Done.

Simply type command 8 again. That toggles the "show paragraphs" function.

  • Instead of accents on letters for foreign language, I get strange symbols.

me email messages in French have strange symbols instead of accents. How can Firefox correct that?

Check the encoding and make sure that you are using the correct Unicode or 8 bit Windows or Western encoding.
    *View > Character Encoding
*Firefox > Web Developer > Character Encoding (Windows, Linux)

  • Intermittent CFMAIL issue

    Hello, everyone.
I've got an intermittent CFMAIL issue that has me perplexed.
I'm using CFMAIL to email notifications of changes made to records in a database.  In the form that is used to make these changes there is a field that has email addresses of developers who need to be notified of these changes.  These are a comma-delimited list of email addresses (which, according to CF9 cfmail documentation on adobe.com, is the correct way of sending to more than one address.)
Some of the records will send the email, update the timestamp on the "mailsent.log", append the new email notification to "mailsent.log", and the email is received by the person(s) to whom it was sent.
Other records, however, will (apparently) send the email, will NOT update the timestamp on "mailsent.log", but WILL append a successfully sent entry to "mailsent.log" (even though the timestamp was not updated), and the email is NOT received by the person(s) to whom it was sent.  In these cases, the timestamp of the mailsent.log will not match the timestamp of the latest entry in the mailsent.log.
I've been able to determine one record that will always successfully complete the process, and one record that will always append a success entry (not altering the log timestamp) but the email will never reach its destination.  I am not seeing anything in any of the data that could break the transport of the email (it's all plain text, no special characters.)
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thank you,
    ^_^

UPDATE: I just now discovered something that is most likely causing this issue: more than one email address.
If the TO= of CFMAIL is "[email protected]", the email goes out without any issues.
If the TO= of CFMAIL is "[email protected],[email protected]", then the email is not received, the timestamp of the log file is not updated (even though the success message is appended to the log).
According to the docs for CF9 CFMAIL, the TO= field should be either a single email address -OR- a comma-delimited list of email addresses (or a query column that will be treated like a comma-delimited list).
    What could be causing this?
    Thanks,
    ^_^

  • Strange symbol on E70

There is a strange symbol on my E70. It's located right under the battery indicator on the upper right hand side of the screen. It looks like a short U with an arrow inside pointing upwards.
I looked for this symbol on the manual, but it's just not there. Does anybody know what it is??

If the icon you are talking about looks like the image on the link below, it is the icon that indicates that your phone has messages in it's outbox.
    http://www.sample.org.uk/blog/files/smssendicon.png
It should appear for the few seconds that an SMS is being sent, but if something fails to send then that icon will stay there.
The phone should however automatically retry when you get coverage/over time. Hope that helps Message Edited by dusample on 27-Jun-2006
