CFP-RTD-124 Errors

Hi.
I am having a problem (since new) with a cFP-1804 and cFP-RTD-124.
When the unit is powered up all of the connected RTD channels display the current temperature as -30ish degrees C with a lot of noise even though the RTD elements are at room temperature. However, if the D37 connector linking the RTD elements to the cFP back plane is disconnected and reconnected (hot) all of the connected RTD channels read correctly with no noise.
I have updated the 1804's firmware to Rev 6.05 and I am running LV 7.1 and Max 4. It does not matter if I run Max or a vi, as soon as the RTD’s are disconnected and reconnected everything straightens out.
I would appreciate your thoughts,
Paul.
PS. Rebooting the 1804 through Max or manually resetting it makes no difference, only unplugging and reconnecting the RTD's.

Hi again Peter.
A thought…
Can you find out if the bug is caused by something simple like a noisy internal supply or something that can be fixed by modifying component values or adding additional components? If so, is it possible for us to do the repair? I ask because the unit is in operation and we will need to minimise the downtime while it is being repaired, fixing it in house would do so.
Please feel free to contact me off line to discuss. The unit is out of its warranty so that should not be an issue.
Regards,
Paul.

  • Bad RTD Readings with cFP-RTD-124

Presently I'm trying to determine if I have bad RTD's or if my cFP-RTD-124 boards are out of calibration.  I have a total of 20 SRTD-1 RTD's of various lengths from Omega Engineering.  They are connected to 3 prong uncompensated plugs which is plugged into RTD extension wire which runs to the cFP-CB-1.  I should mention that I have had these boards for over a year so technically they are out of calibration but this is the first time they've even been taken out of the box.  When I measure the resistance at the plugs and the screw terminals of the NI connector board I typically get 111-113 Ohms which according to my RTD conversion chart is around 85-100 degrees F for a room right around 73 degrees.  Reading the values in MAX I get temperatures from 76-79 degees F.  Can this type of variance be expected when connecting 3 wire RTD to a 4 wire board or is something else at play?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi MeCoOp,
Have you confirmed that your RTDs are wired properly according to the manual? It sounds like the values aren't correct going into the module.

  • Bad readings with CFP-RTD-124

    Hi,
I have a compact field point system to record t° measurements on a machine (to replace a YOKOGAWA paper recorder system)
This machine is equiped with Thermocouple and RTD sensor
TC acquisition boards are CFP-TC-120. Readings are ok
RTD acquisition boards are CFP-RTD-124. Reading are nok  : see picture attached
With the previous YOKO system readings were stable and did not show any fast variations.
If i take resistance measurements, value is also stable.
    CFP-RTD-124 used is revision H (187208H-02)
In advance thanks for your support.

To me, it looks like just a little bit of electrical noise.  You've collected 10's to 100's of data points in a 2 second period and it looks like the results are +/- 1 degree.  (The VI isn't clear as to whether this is °C or °F)
I might be wrong, but I think the thermocouple modules have some internal filtering to eliminate noise.  I've never used the RTD module to know, but perhaps it doesn't.  Or maybe there is a setting in MAX to turn it on.
Does your temperature change so rapidly that you'd need to read numerous data points per second?  The screenshot doesn't look like it is.  One possibility would be to so some averaging across multiple data points and plot that result.

  • Deadband cFP-RTD-122

Is there any useful application for the Deadband feature in the module cFP-RTD-122? In my application the measurements range is from  40 to 120 ªFSo  I'd like to apply some deadband to the sensor readings but it seems that the module has a range between -3xx to 15xx ªF wich is why a 1% Deadband would be  180 ªF what isn't useful, Does anyone know the effective deadband resolution? If I set it to 0.0001 % will it work? Im looking for 0.05 ªF Deadband value. I've already read the help in MAX so I don't really know if taking the Farenheit range as the reference for the 100% deadband is correct can anyone help me to clarify this one?.

    Hi uxpro.
The Deadband's resolution depends on your instrument's resolution. In the cFP-RTD-122 you have 16 bits of resolution so you have 65536 possible levels (100%), the Deadband resolution will be 0.0015259%. The Farenheit range is indeed the reference for the 100% deadband.
I hope this helps clarifying the situation.

  • CFP-RTD-122 Noise Issues with VFD

Hi,, we are running a Field Point application that has 2 RTD-122 cards (as well as other AI/AO/DI/DO) that monitor various temperatures of our test stand.  Next to the Field Point cabinet we have a 10HP and 40HP VFD that drive each respective water pump.  The temperatures (3-wire 100 ohm platinum) read perfectly fine with the pumps off, but as soon as we start either pump, the RTD signals go crazy.  If fact, they get worse when switch from the 10HP pump to the 40 HP pump.  I have placed a UPS on the 110V feed to the power supply that knocks it down to 24V to feed the Field Point module.  I have also grounded the shield wire in the field point cabinet to earth ground.  Any idea what is going on here and how I can fix it?

Centerbolt, thanks for the reply, here is some more info:
1.) Yes the drives to have a good ground
2.) RTD wiring is in separate conduit from 480V wiring to the pump, but just to make sure I wired from the RTD-122 card directly to the RTD which I removed from the piping and kept it away from the pump wiring and the problem still continued.
3.) The VFD's have line reactors on them(input to drive, but not on output to motor)
4.) Some sort of magnet?  I will see what I can come up with?
I also have the shielded wire on every channel going to COM as NI suggests, but this had no effect.  Like I said, everything is well with no pumps on, and with the 10HP pump noise is present but minimal(temps change about 5 degrees), but with the 40HP pump on everything goes wacky(temps read 20F to 200F).  I also have analog input channels reading voltages and they are not affected by the running pumps.  I am at a dead end here, any more help is appreciated!

  • Programatically changing Range for RTDs on cFP

I currently have a cFP-RTD-122 ( three of them) on and cFP 1800 Module.

  • Can cFP-AI-111 power a sensor and remain IS

We aree evaluating using Compact FieldPoint in a hazardous environment and have a couple of questions:
1.Is it possoble for the cFP-AI-111 to power a sensor and remain intrinsically safe? If so, what is required?
2.Is there a cFP module that will work with a potentiometer and/or Wheston Bridge type sensor?
    Regards,
    Barrett

    Dear Barrett,
You can power your cFP-AI-111 using Figure 5 from the Operating Instructions. Use a wire to connect V and Vsup, C and COM, and wire your sensor like Figure 5. What do you mean by intrinsically safe? Would this setup work?
As for the different cFP modules, take a look at the cFP-RTD-124 and the cFP-SG-140. All of the analog input modules can be found here.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

  • CFP 2110 - Status led flashing continously

I'm running into problem with a cFP 2110.
During the debugging of my RT application on the cFP, I get an error message "Host IP address not in the access list". At this time, I was unable to download any application to the cFP. the VI server IP access list was configured with *. So all the IP address can access to the cFP.
I found a procedure on the ni web site to reset the system.
    -Set to safe mode
-ftp the cFP and delete all the file
    -Remove the safe mode.
It means that there is no more OS or LabVIEW RT on the system.
Now, When I restart the cFP, the Status led is flashing continously (1 flash / 1.5s) and I don't have access anymore to the cFP in MAX.. Can some one help me on this case ? .

    Hi Poussin,
I would recommend flipping the Reset IP dip switch (dip switch 7).  This
should get the controller to show up in Measurement and Automation
Explorer(MAX) as 0.0.0.0.  If you can't see the controller, you may want
to try turning off your firewall.  Often computer firewalls will prevent
customers from seeing unconfigured controllers in MAX.
Once you find your controller, you can flip the reset IP dip switch back to the
off position and reset the IP address.  For more information on this,
click on your FieldPoint controller in MAX that will be displayed as
0.0.0.0.  In the MAX help that appears on the right, click on the link
titled, "Configure Network Settings."  If you need assistance
choosing an IP address, please look at this KnowledgeBase.
Once you have assigned an IP address to the controller, the status light should
stop blinking once.   You will then need to install software.
    Here is a general
document that describes how to assign an IP address and install software.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Software versions on fieldpoint controller

I was updating my cFP 2120 with the newer software versions (because I'm having some problems with communication via Datasocket and logos, which I'm going to post in the Labview forum, and thought this might help), updating all software versions to that of my PC.  Too late, I noticed that I updated the Labview RealTime to version 8.0 from version 7.1 but I am only running LV 7.1 both on my realtime app and on my PC.  Now when I try to set my LV target to my cFP I get the error: "Access denied: LabVIEW RT communication protocol version mismatch."  I'm assuming it's because of the 8.0/7.1 descrepancy.   So I tried to go back to LabView RealTime 7.1 on the cFP but when I do that it gives me the error: "Cannot process install because other dependencies are required: LabView RealTime 8.0."  I think I'm trapped in a circle!
So my most basic question is, How do I go back to the way it was?
My other question is, is there somewhere to get a list of the most current versions of the software that should be installed and are compatible with LV 7.1?  The ones that I need to know are the ones installed on the cFP controller (the list that appears when you right-click on Software and choose Add/Remove software):
    Datasocket for LabVIEW Real-time - 4.3 or 4.2?
    FieldPoint drivers - 5.1.2 or 5.1.0?
    FieldPoint VI Manager - 4.0.0 or 3.1.0?
    LabVIEW RealTime - 7.1 or 8.0?
    NI-IrDA RT - 1.0.2 or 1.0.1? (I don't even know what this is)
    NI-Serial RT - 2.5.6 is OK?
    NI-VISA - 3.4.1 or 3.3.1 or 3.2?
    NI-Watchdog - 2.1.4 is OK?
I also have a Network Variable Engine and a Variable Client Support but neither are installed on the cFP - don't know if they should be.
In general I'm using Fieldpoint 5.0, I'm assuming this is OK for LV 7.1??
    Thanks for any insight.

    Hi !
I’m new on FP platform and I have quite the same problem :
    on my controller (2120) :
    fieldpoint drivers 5.1.2
    fieldpoint Vi manager 4.0.0
    real time 8.0
    ... (see the attached image)
this set-up was made by my predecessor (gone forever with the coding computer)
for some obscure reasons and now my boss ask me to make some modification on
the code, so I tried to deploy a new version on the FP and of course there is a
version compatibility problem with versions installed on my computer
    I have tried both LV 8.0, 8.2, LV real time 8.0, 8.2
I need LV and LV RT 8.2 to open the project and I was unable to export it to a
    previous version (8.0)
real time 8.0 seems to be needed by the controller (instead of 7.1) but when I
try to deploy I think 8.2 is used by my computer
the LV code deployed on the controller works fine but we need to add some fonctionalities, I was thinking of re-inteall all the compatible versions but my boss doesn’t want me to modify the software installed on the controller because
in case of a problem we have a production problem ... so I can just do watever I want with my computer
in he's memories a NI guy is came few months ago to make some modification on
the coding computer (gone) but there is no information about what does he made…
is there is a way to get off this shit ?

  • What is the difference between GP config 2 and GP config 3?

    Hi,
I have a test card that is compliant with Visa Global Platform 2.0.1' (configuration 3 with PKI DAP) and I failed during external authentication process.
Does anybody of you have any idea how to derivate keys according to Config 3?
    Thank you in advance.

One change, and one clarification. I have 3 of each, CB-1 and CB-3. I also am using 3 cFP-TC-120 (thermocouple) block, and 3 cFP-RTD-122 (RTD) block.
I have looked into this some and it seems the CB-1 is a general interface block, and CB-3 has thermal isolation properties. So here is the question at the heart of the matter for me now. Which goes with which? cb-1 with RTS or TC?
    Thanks.

I have no clue what your going on about "Unfair to time constraints" and "surprised that no crimes at the company".
And for your information, the PlayBook has been discontinued for over two years. It is dead in the company for development and support at this point.

  • MAX error 7411 when downgrading cFP 2120

    Hello,
I am running LV 8.2 for an old Industrial project that I am doing some changes to. The project is running on a cFP 2120. That cFP is running 24*7 in production.
The actual cFP 2120 I am trying to test my software on, currently has LV RT 2009 installed.
But I now need to downgrade it to LV RT 8.2.
I first tried using the MAX version (4.0.x) installed in LV 8.2, but when trying to do"Add/Remove" software, I get Error7411 as shown in link below:
    http://objective.no/gostemp/max_error_7411.jpg
I then tried to install MAX from my LV2009 distribution in the LV 8.2 environment. Installed fine, but when trying to run it, it complained that it was not properly installed.
I restored my PC, and tried to install MAX 4.4.1 from a LV 8.5.1 distribution. This version of MAX works fine, but I get the same Error 7411 when I try to click the "Add/remove"  software button.
    So, the question is:
    a) How do I clean the rt software (RT 2009) from the cFP2120 so that I can do a clean install of LV RT 8.2 onto it?
Please help, as all my searching has not given me any clue on how to do this !
    Geir Ove

    Hello Muks
Yes, I have seen that. Upgraded to Max that came with LV 2009, that rendered MAX useless: It complained about a "faulty installation".
Restored XP computer, and tried with MAX that came with LV 8.5.1. That version of MAX worked, but I get the same problem.
Funny that National haven't thougt of this. There should be a way of "cleaning" software off a cFP so that one could start with blank sheets and install any LVRT version onto it !
Any help from National Instrument staff?
    Geir Ove
