Bad readings with CFP-RTD-124

Hi,
I have a compact field point system to record t° measurements on a machine (to replace a YOKOGAWA paper recorder system)
This machine is equiped with Thermocouple and RTD sensor
TC acquisition boards are CFP-TC-120. Readings are ok
RTD acquisition boards are CFP-RTD-124. Reading are nok  : see picture attached
With the previous YOKO system readings were stable and did not show any fast variations.
If i take resistance measurements, value is also stable.
CFP-RTD-124 used is revision H (187208H-02)
In advance thanks for your support.
Regards
Stéphane

To me, it looks like just a little bit of electrical noise.  You've collected 10's to 100's of data points in a 2 second period and it looks like the results are +/- 1 degree.  (The VI isn't clear as to whether this is °C or °F)
I might be wrong, but I think the thermocouple modules have some internal filtering to eliminate noise.  I've never used the RTD module to know, but perhaps it doesn't.  Or maybe there is a setting in MAX to turn it on.
Does your temperature change so rapidly that you'd need to read numerous data points per second?  The screenshot doesn't look like it is.  One possibility would be to so some averaging across multiple data points and plot that result.

  • Bad RTD Readings with cFP-RTD-124

Presently I'm trying to determine if I have bad RTD's or if my cFP-RTD-124 boards are out of calibration.  I have a total of 20 SRTD-1 RTD's of various lengths from Omega Engineering.  They are connected to 3 prong uncompensated plugs which is plugged into RTD extension wire which runs to the cFP-CB-1.  I should mention that I have had these boards for over a year so technically they are out of calibration but this is the first time they've even been taken out of the box.  When I measure the resistance at the plugs and the screw terminals of the NI connector board I typically get 111-113 Ohms which according to my RTD conversion chart is around 85-100 degrees F for a room right around 73 degrees.  Reading the values in MAX I get temperatures from 76-79 degees F.  Can this type of variance be expected when connecting 3 wire RTD to a 4 wire board or is something else at play?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi MeCoOp,
Have you confirmed that your RTDs are wired properly according to the manual? It sounds like the values aren't correct going into the module.

  • CFP-RTD-124 Errors

    Hi.
    I am having a problem (since new) with a cFP-1804 and cFP-RTD-124.
When the unit is powered up all of the connected RTD channels display the current temperature as -30ish degrees C with a lot of noise even though the RTD elements are at room temperature. However, if the D37 connector linking the RTD elements to the cFP back plane is disconnected and reconnected (hot) all of the connected RTD channels read correctly with no noise.
I have updated the 1804's firmware to Rev 6.05 and I am running LV 7.1 and Max 4. It does not matter if I run Max or a vi, as soon as the RTD’s are disconnected and reconnected everything straightens out.
    I would appreciate your thoughts,
    Paul.
PS. Rebooting the 1804 through Max or manually resetting it makes no difference, only unplugging and reconnecting the RTD's.

    Solved!

    Hi again Peter.
    A thought…
Can you find out if the bug is caused by something simple like a noisy internal supply or something that can be fixed by modifying component values or adding additional components? If so, is it possible for us to do the repair? I ask because the unit is in operation and we will need to minimise the downtime while it is being repaired, fixing it in house would do so.
Please feel free to contact me off line to discuss. The unit is out of its warranty so that should not be an issue.
    Regards,
    Paul.

  • Problem with reading an unusual value from a FP-RTD-124 module.

I need help troubleshooting a FP-RTD-124 module. The problem I am having is that when I monitor the channel in FieldPoint Explorer, I get what appears to be a random number for the value. The numbers range from around -40C to +50C. I would expect the value to be consistent since it should be room temperature. FP Explorer also indicates that the channel status is "Successful!" and the rest of the channels are "Open RTD".
I am convinced that the RTD is wired in correctly to Channel 0 of the FP module. I have pulled the RTD out and measured consistently (using a multimeter) the resistance at ~107.4 Ohms which is what I would expect at room temperature. I have also tried changing the RTD and using diff
erent channels but I am still receiving those random numbers for the value. In addition, I made sure the channel was configured with the same TCR value as the RTD.
    --- Additional Information ---
The RTD is a 4 wire Minco 100 Ohm Platinum RTD with a TCR=0.00385. I am using FieldPoint Explorer 3.0.2 (build 177). The network module is a FP-1600 connected directly to a computer using a x-over ethernet cable. The terminal base for the FP-RTD-124 is a FP-TB-1.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Ken

    Ken,
The first thing to do is to make sure the FP-RTD-124 is working correctly. Take a fixed resistor (100-200 ohms) and wire it between +Sense and -Sense. Add one jumper wire from +Sense to +Excite and a second one between -Sense to Com. Set the channel to the 0-400 Ohm range in FieldPoint Explorer. If the resistance is a steady, accurate value then the FP-RTD-124 is fine and you need to double check the RTD itself. If the reading is jumping around on the FP-RTD-124, then there is either an outside source of influence (make sure there are no connections to the V & C terminals on the terminal base) or the FP-RTD-124 has been damaged. If the FP-RTD-124 is behaving correctly, then check the lead to lead resistance on your RTD. It may be that one of the wires is
partially open that you did not catch when measuring with the DMM (assuming you used a 2 wire DMM).

  • Bad readings from DAQCard-6036E after DAQmxSelfCal() call

    Hi,
I have a very urgent problem that I would like investigating.
I have a DAQCard-6036E and have noticed that, occassionally, after a call to DAQmxSelfCal(), the AI readings are incorrect.
All channels in my application are configured in differential mode, and the readings returned are occassionally wrong by ~9mV on channels with gain of 1, and ~0.9mV on channels with a gain of 10.
If I repeatedly call DAQmxSelfCal(), I seem to get the bad readings after about every 3rd call to DAQmxSelfCal() - then the next call will usually correct the calibration coeffns, and so on. I have not been able to establish an exact pattern to the problem, but have tried with the laptop on mains power, and internal batter
ies and the problem is the same.
Could there be a problem with the self calibration function in DAQmx, or could there be an external influence? When I call DAQmxSelfCal() my signals are connected to the card, but I assume the inputs get isolated from connected signals during the calibration routine.
    Thanks

    Hi Ed,
I got a loan DAQCard-6036E from NI and tried that and had the same problems. I am suspicious that it is something to do with my laptop, maybe the battery monitoring circuitry or something. Assuming that there is nothing wrong with the DAQCard 6036 internal design, my theory is that if the laptop generates noise while the self-cal is in progress then this can affect the calibration coeffns that are generated. This might be a rubbish theory, but believe me, the effect is genuine.
I would say proceed with caution, put the self cal in, but test it thoroughly by calling it repeatedly with a high precision voltage reference attached and check the returned values. Note that I only think this is an issue with DAQCards, I have not seen it with PCI cards, but then I have not tested these as much.
By the way, doing a self cal once per day is more than enough. Once per hour is too much. There is an article somewhere on NI.com that talks about the recommended interval. Make sure the laptop has been on for at least 15 mins first.
Let me know how you get on.
    Regards
    Jamie

  • FP-TC-120 ok at low temps but gives bad readings at 200 C

I've been using the FP-TC-120 for years with no problems reading type-K thermocouples at 20 - 150 C temperatures or so.  Recently I wanted to read six (type-K) thermocouples in a furnace at 800 - 1200 C temperatures, but the unit gives me bad readings (in both LabView and in FieldPoint Explorer).  The six thermocouples are fine when I turn the furnace on, but about when the first thermocouple gets above about 250 C I start getting almost random values for all six, with occassionally the right values coming through.  If I disconnect all but one of the thermocouples, then I get a good, steady reading.  Some times it will work for two, but never for all six.  My firmware is "0030".  The FieldPoint unit and FP-1000 base are all at room temperature.
    Thanks for any help.

My (firmware) revision is 30.  FieldPoint Explorer is version 3.0.2.
Further tests today (using a heat gun) gave no problems with a pair of thermocouples at 380 C and several others at room temp.  I am now wondering whether my problem was due to radiative heating of the FieldPoint module(s), since the furnace exterior (at about 125 C) would be partially visible by them.  I've moved the modules to a sheltered location, added some fans, and plan to try again in a couple of days.  The behavior suggests that the multiplexing chip is not functioning properly; perhaps that is due to it overheating.
    Thanks for your interest.

  • Deadband cFP-RTD-122

Is there any useful application for the Deadband feature in the module cFP-RTD-122? In my application the measurements range is from  40 to 120 ªFSo  I'd like to apply some deadband to the sensor readings but it seems that the module has a range between -3xx to 15xx ªF wich is why a 1% Deadband would be  180 ªF what isn't useful, Does anyone know the effective deadband resolution? If I set it to 0.0001 % will it work? Im looking for 0.05 ªF Deadband value. I've already read the help in MAX so I don't really know if taking the Farenheit range as the reference for the 100% deadband is correct can anyone help me to clarify this one?.

    Hi uxpro.
The Deadband's resolution depends on your instrument's resolution. In the cFP-RTD-122 you have 16 bits of resolution so you have 65536 possible levels (100%), the Deadband resolution will be 0.0015259%. The Farenheit range is indeed the reference for the 100% deadband.
I hope this helps clarifying the situation.

  • PT1000 and RTD-124?

    Hello,
I found this in the operation instructions for the RTD-124 module:
The [c]FP-RTD-124 has built-in linearization algorithms for
platinum RTDs of either 100 or 1,000 Ω nominal resistance,
I'd like to configure the RDT-124 module to measure PT-1000, but it seems, that this sentence is wrong. Am I right?
    Thank You
    Olli

    Hi All,
    I hope your all well.
Just to let you know, I just had a customer with the same issue.
There has been a CAR 46008 produced on the issue, it certainly does seem like an error in the operating manual.
The Spec Sheet shows RTD-122 module supports both 100 and 1000.
    Best of Luck,

  • Ch 3 on 6th mod of 1121s w/ 1321 FE gives bad readings if not scanned by itself

I can scan channel 3 by itself or with channels from another 1121 module and recieve a good reading but trying to scan it with the other channels from the same 1121 module results in a bad reading. I do not have this problem with any of the other 1121 modules. There is an 1141 with a 1305 in slot 7 of the chassis.

I know it has been a long time since the last post on this issue, but I wanted to give an update.
It turns out that all 14 of the 1321 front ends I purchased had solid state relays from the same lot (4 per module.) All of these relays with lot 0027T1267 relays from Clare do NOT meet manufacturer's specs for temperature, and so can cause erratic problems. At a mere 96F, they change values and eventually completely change states. Since they aren't mechanical in nature, they don't hard switch on or off, but rather have inbetween values that can appear to be bad readings. See my other post on 1321's for more.

  • Bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet and Customer Service

I had an extremely bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet service and I will never use Verizon again.
In August 2014, I called and installed the Verizon Fios Internet and phone bundle. I asked the customer agent several times if I will be charged anything before the installation of the Internet and phone service. She said, 'No, we will only start charging after the Internet and phone are installed at your apartment'. I went to the store and picked up the router and phone and installed it at home by myself. The router did not work. I called Tech support and they said it will take several days for another available agent to come and look into the issue. I decided to discontinue the service and closed the account that same night.
At the end of the month, I received a bill of $80 of activation fee for the internet service. Nothing was ever activated, my internet router did not work, and I got charged an activation fee for a service that I did not even start using. From August to December, I called customer service over 10 times and some of them said they will waive it while the others said it's a non-refundable activation fee. One lady said, 'Ma'am, the activation fee starts when you placed the order, the warehouse received it and packed the router in the boxes....' Isn't that ridiculous? If that's the case, please ask all your customer representative to say a clause before new customers open their account: Are you aware that you will be charged a non-refundable activation fee once you open the account regardless of whether or not you use the service or not.
So after 3 months (November 2014), I decided to get out of all these troubles and paid off my $80 activation fee. They put the bill in the collection agency and I called them and paid the overdue balance. Then in December 2014, I received a statement saying I have a $3.11 overdue balance. The collection agency told me that they will charge me for the whole activation fee and a $3 transaction fee for the transaction. So now Verizon came back and said I owed them the $3 because I paid the collection agency their transaction fee.
I am very disappointed and furious about the whole Verizon operating system. Charging a customer for an activation fee for a service s/he has not consumed or used does not make any business sense. In addition, they do not know how to coordinate with the collection agency on overdue bills. Give the customer a heads-up that they will be charged a transaction fee on top of the overdue balance, and that transaction fee does not count towards clearing the balance.
I have completely lost my confidence in Verizon albeit the many good feedback from my friends.

    Hi crystallau52,
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Hi gurus, can any one explain me about Badi & Bapi with eg.?

    Hi gurus,
Can any one explain me about Badi & Bapi with examples.
    Regards
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu
    1) Badis means:
The BAdIs of the enhancement concept are not treated as standalone objects, but are integrated in the overall concept. Thus, the tools for defining BAdIs are part of the Enhancement Builder included in the ABAP Workbench.
Transaction SE18, up to now the only entry point for defining classic BAdIs, now manages classic and new BAdIs. When an existing BAdI is displayed or changed, it analyzes whether the BAdI is a classic or a new one, and then switches to the respective tool. In the case of a new BAdI, this tool is the enhancement spot editor
    2) Bapis means:
BAPIs can be called within the R/3 System from external application systems and other programs. BAPIs are the communication standard for business applications. BAPI interface technology forms the basis for the following developments:
    Connecting:
New R/3 components, for example, Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) and Business Information Warehouse (BW).
    Non-SAP software
    Legacy systems
Isolating components within the R/3 System in the context of Business Framework
Distributed R/3 scenarios with asynchronous connections using Application Link Enabling (ALE)
Connecting R/3 Systems to the Internet using Internet Application Components (IACs)
PC programs as frontends to the R/3 System, for example, Visual Basic (Microsoft) or Visual Age for Java (IBM).
Workflow applications that extend beyond system boundaries
    Customers' and partners' own developments

I Made a bad desinstalation with adobe Illustrator cc, I put it in the trash can!

You cannot remove a PDF file from "adobe" --- there is no computer application "adobe".
There's "Adobe" the software house. There's "adobe" the earthen building material.
Anyway, you've a PDF that must go to the trash can (& not collect $200 when passing GO).
    Two frequently used processes are:
Like any file on a computer you can locate it via your OS's file browser, select it then press-release the "Delete" key on the keyboard. The files goes into the "trash can".
Like any file attached to an email you can select the attached file (PDF, etc.) and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. The file goes into the the trash can.
    Be well...
