Change Currency in Existing Depreciation Area

Hi Bernhard Kirchner, Brigitte Kuehni and All
I have a requirement to change the Currency for an existing Depreciation Area ( Area Does not post) from TWD to USD.
This depreciation area already has postings in Production.
Could you please suggest, if it is possible and what are the steps to be followed and the data conversion requirements if any.
We have already evaluated the option of creating a new Depreciation area in USD, but that is ruled out following the group norms.
Thanks & Regards,
Kavita

Hi Kavita,
If there are already assets with values in a depreciation area it is no
longer possible to change the currency in transaction OAYH.
The system will not allow you do this, you will get an error.
Once you have postings made, the amounts posted will not automatically
be changed into the new currency.
If the depreciation area 01 is the reference area:
- a reference area cannot be simply switched to another currency. It
has to be identical with the currency of the local currency.
- in order to achieve consistency the amounts in this local currency
have to be converted into the new local currency, which cannot be done
by transaction OAYH simply, otherwise the system could become
  inconsistent.
If you change the currency of the depreciation 01 the amounts posted
are not automatically changed into the new currency but taken over one
to one.
To change the currency,  you should use the conversion tools.
If you are in a development system doing some initial customizing
(never in an already running production system) you can update the
content in table T093B with a self made ABAP program.
Another possibility is to make a new chart of depreciation and configure
its depreciation areas as you like.
Best regards
Bernhard

  • Add a existing depreciation area to an existing asset

    Dear All,
We have erroneously deactivated the main depreciation area (book depreciation) on an legacy take over asset. How can we reactivate the same?
    History so far:
We took over legacy assets on 30.06.2005 (when we went live) in the Asset Management module. All the legacy values were taken over. Depreciation was run and subsequently year 2005 was closed in the Asset Management module.
After almost 15 months we found that one legacy asset does not have the main depreciation area (book depreciation) activated.
I tried substitution rules, but the field ANLB-AFABE is not available for substitution. Even when I add this to the table GB01 (Bool Class 30) it does not become available for substitution.
Can some one advise, if they have faced a similar problem.

  • Change Currency Type in Controlling area

    Dear Gurus,
We have the following settings in the customizing:
    1 - OKKP - Currency Type 20 and Currency key "USD"and flag "Different Company Code Currency is Allowed" set;
    2 - Object Currency WBS "10 Company code Currency" "BRL";
    3 - OB22 - Currency Type 1st local currency "10 Company code currency -
    BRL" and 2nd local currency "40 hard currency - USD";
We would like to change the Currency Type in OKKP of "20 Controlling area currency" for "40 Hard Currency"  without modifying the currency key.
That impact this modification can be generate if in the Production System already exists real postings and Settlement to FI-AA?
    Thanks,

  • Parallel Currency Depreciation Areas.

    Hi,
I have activated parallel currencies (Hard Currency - EUR & Indexed Based - USD) concept to my company code.  I am trying to settle WBS, that time I am getting error message "Company code XXXX manages parallel currencies in Asset Accounting. For each area that posts automatically online to FI, you have to define one dependent depreciation area that adopts both identical values and depreciation terms from depreciation area 01, and which is assigned to currency type 40 and currency EUR. There is no depreciation area of this type defined for depreciation area 01"
For the above error how to create dependent depreciation area and attaching to currency type EUR".
    Help is needed very urgent.
Thanks in advance for the same.
    Regards.

    Hi,
Normally when you activated parallel currencies, then you should have minimum 2 depreciation area. First is Book Depreciation , and the second is "Group Currency"  Depreciation.
You can define depreciation Area for "Group Currency" in :
SPRO -> Asset Accounting -> Valuation -> Define Depreciation Area
Then you should Specify Area Type in t-code : OADC. Set "Typ"= 6 (group Valuation) for the "Group Currency" depreciation area.
Then Specify Transfer of APC Values in t-code : OABC , fill "ValAd"= 01 and tick column "Identical" for "Group Currency" Area.
Do the same thing in t-code : OABD.
Then You should define currency for those depreciation area in t-code : OAYH.
Last, you should Specify the  use of parallel currencies in :
SPRO=> Asset Accounting -> Valuation -> Currency ->Specify the  use of parallel currencies .
For "Group Currency" Depreciation area , Fill following :
"Currency Type" = 30 Group Currency
    Tick "IdAPC"
    "Ttr" = 1 book depreciation
    Tick "Indnt Trn"
    Hope It can help.

  • Error: Parallel depreciation area 31 is not posted

    Hi experts,
Hi have customized 5 depreciation areas:
01 book depreciation in local currency
30 deferred balance sheet in local currency (for different useful life)
31 deferred balance sheet in group currency
32 book depreciation in group currency
    60 derived depreciation area
I specified that 30 will get values from 01; 31 will get from 30; 32 will get from 01; plus one derived for 01 and 30 difference.
Then when I entered asset values in F-02 using transaction type 100, I get this error. Please help. Thank you.
Parallel depreciation area 31 is not posted
    Message no. AA565
    Diagnosis
The asset to be posted does not manage parallel depreciation area 31, or transaction type  that you are using is limited to certain depreciation areas, and does not contain depreciation area 31. This is incorrect.
    System Response
    Posting is rejected.
    Procedure
Check the asset and the transaction type.

    Hi John.
In "Specify use of Parallel Currency" setup your currencies type/Valuation view.
In Currency Type/Valuation View, against area 31 maintain it for 31 (Group Currency Group Valuation) and against area 40 maintain 40 (Hard Currency). Transfer of Deprecation terms setup from Deprecation
    area “01”.  Setup like below.
    Now go to below
Maintain your currency as per requirement and see if changes are updated as per above configuration (I mean valuation id is "01" for your depreciation area, try to execute your transaction and let me know if it’s working.
After that go to define depreciation area and see if your depreciation area setting for 01, 31 and 40 is same. Please try to check in Sandbox first.
Please mark it as correct if your problem resolves, so it would be useful for other as well.

  • How to get Depreciation key independant from Depreciation area

    Hello,
We are using two depreciation areas  01 book depreciation and 15 Tax, in our asset class we have put  for both the same depreciation key (GD50) but with a different uselife for every depreciation area
Now when we create a new asset (AS01) intially the correct uselife appears ( tab depreciation area) but apparently when i want to change the one for depreciation area 01 its also changed in depreciation area 15  - how can we avoid that 15 is 'linked' to 01?
    Many thanks

  • FI-AA new depreciation area - treatment depreciation previous years

    Hi,
In the FI-AA module , next to the already existing depreciation area 01 for Fiscal reporting with full integration of postings to FI-GL, I have created a new depreciation area 20 for te purpose of Management reporting which takes over its APC values from depreciation area 01 and does only post different Depreciation values to FI-GL.
Subsequently I updated the data for the new depreciation area in teh already existing asset master data records ( different depreciation keys).
The depreciation calculation and resulting postings for the current year are correct.
    However I wonder what will happen with the data for the previous years;
when i look in the asset explorer i do see for the new depr area in the "posted values" tab that it reports for the previous years planned depreciation amounts . However we do not want to post these amounts in the previous years because these years have already been closed and audited.
Will we be able at the end of this fiscal year to changeover FI-AA to the new fiscalyear ( transactions AJAB, AJRW) without the system complaining with error messages that we first need to also perform the depreciation postings for all the previous years in this new depreciation area ?
Many thanks in advance for your much appreciated help.
    Kind Regards,
    Arjan

Can you please tell me how you added the new depreciaton area to the existing asset masters in those classes ?  To get the new depreciation area to show up?  We just did the same thing and we're only working with assets that were acquired this year - but we can't get the new depreciation area added to the assets that already existed in those classes.  If you figured out how to do that it would sure help us out.  I look forward to your response.  We're in 4.7.
    Thanks
    Karla
Never mind found it from reading other posts.  I used AFBN and it worked.  Thanks

  • Cross system depreciation area

We are facing a production issue while transferring assets between two company codes . Each company code is assigned to diffreent chart of depreciation with different depreciation areas.
Now we have to define cross system depreciation area to resolve this issue.
Could you let me know what are the config stps involve in changing to corss system depreciation area.
Alos if anyone has document on this please forward it.
    Thanks

    HI,
Following are the steps required for the configuration as per your requirement
    1. define cross syteme depreciation area for both book of depreciation and tax of depreciation  in each company company code and as per the requirement mentioned check tax depreciation area  in COD 1 whethere any functionality (properties)of the tax  depreciation area mentioned in COD2 ma tches if it matches then we can mapp the cross system depreciation area to that particular depreciation area.
    2. check comapny id : whether it is legal entitiy( company code assigned to same company)
whether it is independent legal entity ( company code assigned to different company)
    3. create transfer variant  enter the cross system depreciation area and mentioned transfer method( 1- gross method 2- nett method) and mention the transaction type one for retirement and acqusition resp  and mention the transaction type fro prior acq and current year acqsition.

  • New Depreciation Area tobe added to the existing Assets

    Hi,
I had Run OAYZ to activate a depreciation area for a Asset Class
I run AFBN to add this new depreciation area to the existing assets.
When I go to Assets Explorer (AW01N) I get following area
Values for Ordinary deprec. have changed in dep. area 13 in fiscal year 2007
        Message no. AU390
    Diagnosis
Depreciation terms were changed in depreciation area 13 since the last
time depreciation was recalculated. The values for Ordinary deprec. that
were saved in the database in fiscal year 2007 are therefore different
from the newly calculated values by an amount of
        476.41-.
    Procedure
Check if the newly calculated values are correct. If they are, then
carry out a depreciation recalculation. You should be aware that if you
recalculate depreciation, new values could arise for all open fiscal
years, and these would then have to be posted to the general ledger by
means of a depreciation posting run.
If, on the other hand, you want to keep the values that are saved in the
database, you have to set the depreciation terms back to how they were
at the time of the last depreciation recalculation.
To see a comparison of the old and new values, you can use the Display
dep. calc. function in the asset value display or the Recalculate values
function in the Asset Accounting menu.
    Proceed
Now if I try to click on proceed and recalculate the depreciation (AFAR) the system gives error
40001        0    WRK SURF FOR RDQ WRKPROJCT RMS-RSCH DATA OP.   2007 Error

  • Problem with depreciation area (Incorrect currency exchange rate is used)

Good day to all SDN forumers!
I'm having a problem with one depreciation area that we set up. The reason why we configured this depreciation area is for us to enable to monitor all asset postings in another (group) currency aside from the local currency. We set it up in such a way that the depreciation would not post and would thus only "convert" the asset postings to group currency using the table rates in table TCURR (via OB08).
The problem is despite having defined an exchange rate for the current period, the system still picks up the exchange rate for 01/01/2001 which is incorrect. This affected all reports which displays incorrect values whenever I view the postings using the 2nd depreciation area we set up. Is there a way we can correct this?
I'd really appreciate your comments and suggestions guys. Thanks a lot and more power!

    Update:
I created a new depreciation area by copying an existing area and updated some of the configuration. The problem is still there though, since the depreciation area still reflects the <b>incorrect</b> rate (similar to that of the previous depreciation area) whenever I access it using Asset Explorer. What's surprising is that even though I've already set the exchange rate (e.g. USD to EUR)  to match that of the asset's capitalization / acquisition date, the posted values still do not reflect what I defined in table TCURR. Instead, it reflects the exchange rate used by the old depreciation area. Help anyone? We are already in a production client and transfer/retirement of all the assets is not an option the client would like to undertake.

  • Copy parallel currency depreciation area

    Hi Gurus,
We are migrating to New GL. As a part of this, I am creating 4 new depreciation areas (one for LC1 in non-leading ledger - 61, One for LC2 (GC) in non-leading ledger - 71 and the other two for delta between 01 - 61, and 31-71). I have marked 71 depreciation area as identical and adopting values from 61. I want to copy the values from the existing group currency depreciation area(31) into 71 as I want 71 to be a replica of 31 and I do not want the system to again convert the LC1 into GC using historical rates and I want to avoid writing an LSMW as they are lots of assets. Can someone advice how I can copy over dep area 31 to 71 using AFBN. System does not allow 71 to reference 31 in OABC for take over of same values. Thanks.

    Hi,
For a correct and simple parallel valuation scenario, please review SAP Note 1433535 which provides the necessary instruction how to create a ledger scenario, including parallel currency areas.
(For posting indicators and their meaning you can check KBA 1572318).
Please verify in your system and take into account the following information regarding ledger scenario logic: also, please refer to the standard ledger scenario logic documentation.
In short, this is a basic configuration of depreciation areas and posting indicators in asset transaction OADB:
                                             Posting to G/L         Ledger
    Area 01 HGB                    1                             0L
Area XX IAS                     3                             1L (your ledger code)
Area YY (IAS - HGB)        6                             1L (your ledger code)
Same setup is valid for the other ledgers that you may have.
You should also beware that according to the ledger scenario logic: Acquisiton/transfer/retirement postings in area 01 go to ALL ledgers, independently of the setting in OADB (this is not an error).
The difference is posted through the derived area.
Here I list again the 3 most relevant SAP Notes listed in regard to creating a ledger scenario:
    1433535    Parallel valuation: Ledger approach
1594311    Duplicate posting in non-leading ledger when APC tr

  • Depreciation area for foreign currency acquisitions (EURO)

    Hello,
My client requires that the foreign currency acquisitions (EURO acquisitions) should be tracked in a separate depreciation area (apart from other depreciation areas).
Is there anyway a depreciation area could be selectively populated only based on currency of the procurement/transaction currency?
Any alternatives exist, that would report the foreign currency acquisitons in the asset reporting?
    Thank you,

    Hi
Is the purpose to track assets purchased in foreign currency or to see the depreciation on them based on some different rules - say the company has HQ in Europe and wants to see depren as per the rules in HQ country.
