FI-AA new depreciation area - treatment depreciation previous years

Hi,
In the FI-AA module , next to the already existing depreciation area 01 for Fiscal reporting with full integration of postings to FI-GL, I have created a new depreciation area 20 for te purpose of Management reporting which takes over its APC values from depreciation area 01 and does only post different Depreciation values to FI-GL.
Subsequently I updated the data for the new depreciation area in teh already existing asset master data records ( different depreciation keys).
The depreciation calculation and resulting postings for the current year are correct.
However I wonder what will happen with the data for the previous years;
when i look in the asset explorer i do see for the new depr area in the "posted values" tab that it reports for the previous years planned depreciation amounts . However we do not want to post these amounts in the previous years because these years have already been closed and audited.
Will we be able at the end of this fiscal year to changeover FI-AA to the new fiscalyear ( transactions AJAB, AJRW) without the system complaining with error messages that we first need to also perform the depreciation postings for all the previous years in this new depreciation area ?
Many thanks in advance for your much appreciated help.
Kind Regards,
Arjan

Can you please tell me how you added the new depreciaton area to the existing asset masters in those classes ?  To get the new depreciation area to show up?  We just did the same thing and we're only working with assets that were acquired this year - but we can't get the new depreciation area added to the assets that already existed in those classes.  If you figured out how to do that it would sure help us out.  I look forward to your response.  We're in 4.7.
Thanks
Karla
Never mind found it from reading other posts.  I used AFBN and it worked.  Thanks

  • Different useful life in depreciation area - same depreciation

    Hello,
I have the same depreciation key but different useful life for some assets master data, but when I calculate the depreciation, in the second depreciation area I have the same depreciation amounts like in the first depreciation area. The second depreciation area posts depreciation only...
    Can you help me please?
    Regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
to answer this question you should at least provide detailed information about the depreciation key used. For instance depreciating with a stated percentage rate wouldn´t consider the useful life, same depreciation amount would be the result. And there are several other possibilities.

  • Depreciation - Post in the Previous Year

    Hi,
I am trying to post the depreciation for Jan 2010, but the system is giving the error that I need to post in the preious year first.
However when i am trying to post the depreciation for the previous year, its giving the error that previous year is closed. Can anybody help me how to resolve this issue. Thanks.
    Regards,
    S.Sumana.

    Hello Sumana,
I have encountered similar issue in one of my clients. What you need to do to remedy the situation is that you need to open the Asset fiscal year in OAAQ and then post depreciation month wise till the current year start. For posting depreciation you also need to open the old accounting period but if there were no asset postings in previuos years then you do not have that risk of anything getting posted in books(which are already closed) in those prior fiscal years. This was from books point of view you maintain status quo.
Close the previous asset years and posting years once you are done with depreciation posting for a particular year.
After you come upto date you can run the depreciation normally in current year.

  • Non-leading ledger depreciation area posting depreciation expense at current exchange rate - need to be historical

    Hi all,
We are facing an issue where we have a depreciation area "02" posting to our non-leading ledger. It is set to post depreciation only.
I noticed the depreciation expense is hitting the non-leading ledger and translating (CAD) into group currency (USD) at the current exchange rate. But in the leading ledger, the rate is historical.
How can we have the non-leading ledger post at historical exchange rates for depreciation postings?
    thx..

    Hi Jay,
Check the exchange rate type & translation date maintained for the non leading ledger in OB22.

  • Depreciation area wise depreciation posting

    Hi Experts,
We are using PARALLEL LEDGER for USGAAP reporting requirement. The client has weekly posting period under USGAAP reporting and thus they will perform all the month end activities as "weekend activity" in this non-leading ledger.
This will also require WEEKLY posting of depreciation run for USGAAP ledger only.
Is there any standard way wherein we can do posting only for PARALLEL LEDGER by select the weekly posting period and USGAAP depreciation area. Or can it be done through a development??
    Thanks in advance

  • Depreciation area SMACRS

    Hi,
1.In our client, SMACRS depreciation was never activated and infact that area was deleted.
    2. Now the client wants to create this depreciation area.
    3. If this new depreciation area is created what will happen to the old assets? We have assets in the system since 1998. Can we make the depreciation calculations applicable to these old assets also by changing the depreciation keys? Will these calculations be correct?
    4. Any one has done similar exercise?
Your valuable inputs are highly appreciated.
    thanks
    Srinivasa Vepa

    Thanks for the reply.
The new depreciation area needs to be created as I already mentioned, this was deleted altogether in the system. AFBN allows openeing of the new depreciation area for the previous assets. However, all the assets have to be changed with the new keys and AFAR needs to be done.
On a test basis, I created new depreciation area. We already have depreciation area 10 ( tax depreciation). After AFBN, in the new depreciation area I changed the depreciation keys ( after AFBN, the book depreciation keys got defaulted.) with that of area 10 and compared the results. They do not match.
Hope you understood my problem and concern

  • Creating depreciation area for non leading ledger

    Hi,
I want to configurate a depreciation area for a non-leading ledger. This is my scenario:
01-Accounting area leading ledger. Group legder: 0L (on line)
02- Accounintg area non leading ledger. Group ledger N1 (Area posts APC only directly)
03-Depreciation non leading ledger. Grouo ledger N1 (Area posts depreciation only)
Is it correct to created this 2 areas for non leading ledger?
    Thanks,
    Cecilia

    Hi Cecilia,
    additionally to my colleagues:
For each additional set of accounting principles, you create one real  and one derived depreciation area.
    Real Depreciation Area:
    1. In Customizing for Financial Accounting (New), choose Asset Accounting  - Valuation  - Depreciation Areas  -Define Depreciation  Areas.
    2.  Assign both depreciation areas to the same ledger group.
The ledger group you assign them to is not allowed to contain the leading ledger.
    3.  In the Posting in G/L field, choose Area Posts Depreciation Only.
    Derived Depreciation Area:
It is easiest to create the derived depreciation area using the Wizard.
    4. In Customizing for Financial Accounting (New), choose Asset Accounting - Valuation - Depreciation Areas - Set Up Areas for Parallel Valuation.
    5. In the Posting in G/L field, choose Area Posts APC Only.  Specify that this derived depreciation area represents the difference between the real depreciation area for parallel accounting and the
    master depreciation area.
You do not have to set up a separate account set for these new depreciation areas. Instead you use the account set of the master depreciation area. In this scenario, you do not have to create any new  accounts in the chart of accounts or in the company code. You also do  not have to create a new financial statement version.
So a typical dep.area setting for a parallel ledger at you is like:
    T093
    AFABER ABVOR1 AFABE1 ABVOR2 AFABE2 BUHBKT LDGRP_GL
    01...............................00...........................00............1.............0L
    02...............................00...........................00............3.............N1
    03..................+...........01............ - ............02............6.............N1

  • Define depreciation areas with different fiscal yr variant under 1 cod.

    Hi FICO Gurus,
I am a new student in FICO, here i have a question as following, ask for help,
Does anyone know how to define depreciation areas with different fiscal year variant under one chart of depreciation?
    Such as:
Book Keeping Fiscal Year Variant 1: Jun-15-2007 to Jun-14-2008, Non-Calendar Month
Tax Calculation Fiscal Year Variant 2: Jul-01-2007 to Jun-30-2008, Calendar Month
So far as I know, SAP provides Specify Different Fiscal Year Variants on Depreciation Area. But it requires the same starting date and ending date for fiscal year variants.
Right now, the scenario here is different book fiscal year variant and tax depreciation fiscal year variant with different time span.
Does Anyone know feasible and tested solutions?
    Any responses will be awarded.
    Thanks a lot!
    Samson

I believe - and this is only my belief - (haven't tried it before) - you can define Depreciation Areas like you wanted.
Broadly, the steps to do this would be:
Create a Chart of Depreciation and create two Depreciation Areas within this for your Company.
The chart of Depreciation will be assigned to the company code level, so you are okay there.
Now create a FYV corresponding to the June 15 - June 14 depreciation year and assign these to the Company Code using the menu path:
Asset Accounting --> Valuation --> Fiscal Year --> Fiscal Year Variants --> Specify other versions on Depreciation Area Level.
Here, pick your company code and you should see both the areas assigned to it. Assign the FYV as required and then check to see if it works.
Like I mentioned before, this is only a random thought. Haven't tried this before.
    Cheers.

  • Delete Depreciation Area

    Hi everybody
I have a error when I configure. The first I configure all information about asset for depreciation areas (01,02,15,20,30,31,32,41,51). But finally, I deleted depreciation area 41,51. Now I want to determine depreciation areas in asset class. But it notice error:
"Contact your system administrator (table error)
    Message no. AA826
    Diagnosis
Depreciation area 41 has not been defined in the chart of depreciation HDQC.
    Procedure
Define the depreciation area using in FI-AA Customizing"
    And
    Diagnosis
The function module FIAA_WRTAFB_CHECK/FIAA_PARAFB_CHECK checks depreciation area 41 in chart of depreciation HDQC.  However, this depreciation area is not contained in the table listing all the depreciation areas (T093/T093A) which the module checks.
    Procedure
    Inform your system administrator.

Thaks for the advice, it also worked for my problem which was:
I copied the chart of depreciation from chart of depreciation DE (1000) to a customer specific new one (CDPH). I also deleted many of the depreciation areas because we only required 5 of them (Local GAPP, Group GAAP, tax accounting, cost accounting, IFRS). I also customized those 5 depreciation areas successfully.
But the problems came when I tried to customize: Asset Accounting / Valuation / Depreciation areas / Defione depreciation ares: Function: "Specify Area Type". I had the problem that it was not possible to delete depreciation area 59 (Investment support). So I did not worry too much and walked on with customizing.
When I came to customizing: Asset / Valuation / Determine Depreciation Area in asset class it was not possible to for me to save any changes in the asset classes (depreciation terms (Depreciation key, useful life) Screen layout), I always got the error message: "Field group NDJAR does not exist in field group table".
Then I read you advice and applied FM "AA_AFABER_DELETE" and just entered the relevant chart of depreciation (CDPH) and the depreciation area which I finaly wanted to delete (59) and after 2 seconds the problem was solved.

  • Add a existing depreciation area to an existing asset

    Dear All,
We have erroneously deactivated the main depreciation area (book depreciation) on an legacy take over asset. How can we reactivate the same?
    History so far:
We took over legacy assets on 30.06.2005 (when we went live) in the Asset Management module. All the legacy values were taken over. Depreciation was run and subsequently year 2005 was closed in the Asset Management module.
After almost 15 months we found that one legacy asset does not have the main depreciation area (book depreciation) activated.
I tried substitution rules, but the field ANLB-AFABE is not available for substitution. Even when I add this to the table GB01 (Bool Class 30) it does not become available for substitution.
Can some one advise, if they have faced a similar problem.

  • Deactivate a depreciation Area

    Hi Guys
I wan to deactivate a depreciation area. Depreciation area does not post but it is a real depreciation area.
Is there any risk to deactivate the depreciation area for the asset class in OAYZ  ?
We do not want this depreciation area be activated any more.
    Thanks

    Hi
But I do not want to use this depreciation area any more for any other asset.
So I have several suggestion but I am confused:
    - In  OABN (this only manage ordinary depreciation)
    - But I think the safety procedure is deactivating it in OAYZ.
I am wondering what are the steps to deactivate the depreciation area in a safetely way whitout  impact.
The depreciation area itself did not post in GL  , nevertherless it is it is a real depreciation area. (OADB).
Can anyone suguest all the steps  , why I have to do it in OABN rather than in OAYZ.
I think that if I have to deactivate the depreciation area I have to do it in OAYZ (for asset class, then new assets won´t have this depreciation area available whereas old asset still show this depreciation area in AS03.

  • Assets: synchronising two depreciation areas which post to G/L

    Hi All,
For assets, I've three depreciation areas:
    - Book depreciation (posts to general ledger),
    - Spec.tax depreciation (posts to general ledger)
    - Cost-accounting depreciation.
I have to make the depreciation posting in first and second areas synchronised. For example, If, for a ceratin asset, I set a percentuage depreciation of 10% in the Book depreciation area, and a percentuage depreciation of 10% in the Spec.tax depreciation area, I expect that the depreciation process lasts 5 years.
How could I obtain this way to do?
    Thanks
    Gandalf

    Hi Gandalf,
Use transactions OABD and OABC to achieve your purpose. In transaction OABD depreciation terms in the given depreciation area can be transfered to another depreciation area. In transaction OABC - one depreciation area adopts the value of another depreciation area.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • Parallel depreciation area not posted  when trying to settle an order.

I have selected Indentical and TTr check box for dep areas 02,31,32, & 42.
I have done the consistency check and it shows no errors in depreciation area set up.
When Trying to settle an internal order in KO88 to a fixed asset I am getting the below error message.
*Data inconsistency: Parallel depr. area is not posted Message no. AAPO104*
    Diagnosis
For chart of depreciation ZCH, you defined this area (or these areas) as parallel depreciation areas for depreciation area 01. In the current transaction, however, not all of these areas are posted. This is not allowed.
    Procedure
Check if the transaction type is limited to certain depreciation areas. If there is such a limitation, add the missing depreciation areas for the transaction type.
Check if the asset that is being posted manages all these depreciation areas.
I have checked the transaction types and they are not limited to any depreciation areas. I have activated depreciatio areas in the asset class and maintained the account determination nad assigned g/l accounts.
Please help me if I have missed any settings.
    Thanks & Regards
    Nirmala

    Hi,
AAPO104 is generally a customizing error:  the check points to consider are generally the following regarding parallel currencies: I think you have checked most of them already...
    * The parall. dep. area must have the same settings as the original area (e.g. allowing APC).
    * The parall. dep. area must set for identical values take over.
    * The parall. dep. area must set for identical parameter take over.
    * The parall. dep. area must be assigned to the currency type which is defined as parallel in FI in trx. OB22 (e.g. 30).
    * The parall. dep. area must be activated in the asset class (transaction OAYZ)
Furthermore, a problem can also be that in OABT you have a parallel area customized, taking value from another area, which is customized and seen in T093. If for example this parall.area is missing on your Asset Under Construction but is there on the final asset this obviously will create the error AAPO104, too.
In any case check your settings are correct in regards to parallel depreciation areas. They must manage same values as original areas. If they don't it cannot be a parallel area.
Maybe you also need to consider the information in SAP note 317806.
Also, looking at your different depreciation areas above, it looks that you have set up a ledger scenario (areas 01 , 02 and 29). I wonder, do you have a correct set up for the parallel currency for your ledger scenario? If I am not mistaken, I don't see a derived parallel currency area. Could this be the problem?

    Brigitte

  • Date range previous year?

How would I get all records that are in the previous year from the date the report is run?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Are you doing a current vs previous report?  There are two ways to do this.  One is to have two parameters: one for a start date and one for an end date.  When your users enter the date range, set your Record Selection formula to go back 1 year from the start date.
    {TABLE.DateField} >= Date (Year ({?StartDate} - 1), Month ({?StartDate}), Day ({?StartDate})) And
    {TABLE.DateField} <= {?StartDate};
The other suggestion would be to use a subreport to query the previous year's data.
    Good luck,
    Brian
