  • Change default setting on discoverer/plus

    Dear,
when connecting to discoverer/plus or viewer. The first screen, we will see
"Connect to" and the default for this one is "OracleBI Discoverer"
I just wonder if i can set this default to the second option from the drop down box
    "Oracle Application"
So anytime when i open discoverer plus it would show "Oracle Application" instead of "OracleBI Discoverer".
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Tom

Also if you want to set Oracle Application as the default option to connect then
    1. Goto $BIHome\j2ee\OC4J_BI_Forms\applications\discoverer\discoverer\templates
    2. Open the file ConnectionAccessTypes.uit
    3. change the following
    <option value="RELATIONAL" text="${uix.data.nls['text.access.type.RELATIONAL']}"/>
    <option value="APPS" text="${uix.data.nls['text.access.type.APPS']}"/>
    <option value="OLAP" text="${uix.data.nls['text.access.type.OLAP']}"/>
    to
    <option value="APPS" text="${uix.data.nls['text.access.type.APPS']}"/>
    <option value="RELATIONAL" text="${uix.data.nls['text.access.type.RELATIONAL']}"/>
    <option value="OLAP" text="${uix.data.nls['text.access.type.OLAP']}"/>
    4. Restart the OC4J_BI_Forms instance for the changes to take effect
Once you did these changes you will find that when connecting to discoverer/plus or viewer, the first screen
"Connect to" shows the default value as "Oracle Application"
    Thanks,

  • Discoverer Plus returning no data and IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0. Desktop OK

We are attempting to create a worksheet in Discoverer Plus. It is based on two tables joined with an outer join. We select 1 field from the master table, then 6 fields from the detail table. The query runs OK (we have no conditions, sorts, calculations nor totals).
When we attempt to add a 7th field from the detail table and run the query, Discoverer Plus displays the error message 'IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0' and the results region says 'No Data'.
If we build exactly the same worksheet with Discoverer Desktop against the same EUL, the query runs OK and returns the expected data. I've experienced this problem before and solved it by deleting the detail folder and re-creating it. (We are using custom folders). After this the query ran OK in Discoverer Plus and returned the expected data.
Has anyone else come across this? Do you know what causes it and/or any better method of solving it?

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the default position (and default aggregate) for the EUL folder item? I can see that some of the folders have number type items with default position 'Data Point' and others have these with default position of 'Top or Side'. I'm totally stabbing around in the dark here; looking at EUL folders which exhibit the problem and those which don't.
I've tried changing one field to 'Data Point' and it hasn't helped. Will try changing the join items now I think.
If anyone has any comments, would be v. grateful as I'm looking at dropping folders which have quite a bit of code around them and trying to re-create them exactly, which is a risky and horrible solution.

  • Discoverer plus  report does not sum up the column

    Hi All,
I am running the discoverer report from discoverer plus (web version) and was
trying to use the sum function to sum the total amount of the report.
The sum function does not work and it only display Cell
Sum: (blank) with no actual data.
When i checked the report details some columns are calculated based on the columns which i want to sum up.
My query uses CASE function to calculate one of the columns.
I changed the aggregation behavior setting to "Show the sum of the calculated values from the contributing cells "
then also i'm not able see the totals.
Any ideas please share with me.
    Thanks in advance,

Hard to answer your question without seeing what you are trying to do. Issues like this are often better reported to Oracle support, where they can get a web sesison going and be able to see what you see on your computer. Would be helpful to illustrate exactly what your detail looks like and how you are trying to create your sum. There could be several possible issues that could cause your problem, so all I can do is speculate some. Are you trying to sum one column, or are you creating multiple totals (for multiple columns)? Do you have any rows in the column with a NULL value? NULL values will be a problem when trying to sum up a column. You would need to convert the NUll value to something else, probably a zero. That would be the first thing I would look at. Hope that helps a little bit.

  • Totals not showing in Discoverer Plus - Urgent please

Hi there,Thanks to all for helping on questions and sharing thoughts.
I got a question from user in Discoverer plus, this is an urgent need.
Actually they built report in Plus in Production based on 2 folders with few conditions and all, everything working fine and getting data.
on one column in the report they need Total mean they used Sum but it is showing only lable not the value, like Sum:
Even we tried Cell Sum, no luck, also I tested format of data and changed to NUMBER datatype, SHOW NULLS AS to 0,
And also created calculation to avoid nulls like case statement if it is null then '0' otherwise that value and did Toal on Calculation column, still not working.
I've seen in Disco Admin Dev/QA, that there is joins between these folders and i regarding getting data is not an issue from user I guess.
Can anyone guide me or point me on this that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    skat

Thanks for your response on this,
I didnt get you, can you explain in brief.
See to avoid null values I created calculation and used case statement.
When I create total using SUM or Cellsum funstions it is not giving data it is giving only the label.
one more thing this is, actually I saved that report on myid and was trying to play and when I try to keep only that column it gave me the result if i add other columns from other folder again getting the same issue.
Any ideas or thoughts on this please.

  • Discoverer Plus not working in Internet Explorer

IE 6.0 on Windows 2000 professional SP4 and all of the patches up to date.
Latest Java run time from Sun.
I hit the link to Plus and it will eventually bring me back to the login screen with all of the parameters empty. It also opens a new window which is in the background that is blank. The java icon does not appear when I click on the link either.
I had the google tool bar installed so I removed this. Still the same result.
I tried this in Firefox and it works perfectly! I have also tried IE with other applets and they all work perfectly.
The environment is all in an Intranet. I have tested this with another Win2K desktop and got the same results. I have also tried plus with an NT desktop and it also does not work.
Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

    Found the problem.
The default installation has WebCache listening on port 80 and then Apache is listening on port 7777 or 7778.
Discoverer Plus requires a JVM to run and with IE, it installs a particular version of the Sun JVM. The installer points to a hard coded URL in the $ORACLE_HOME/discoverer/config/configuration.xml file for IE users. For whatever reason, the URL is not pointing to the WebCache port but to the Apache port directly. The configuration file doesn't have a section for Firefox so it just loads a JVM which is already installed.
I had disabled WebCache because it is another layer to fail when I don't really need or want WebCache. I did this by turning off WebCache with OEM and then editing the httpd.conf file. I changed Listen 7777 to Listen 80.
Now when a user with IE tried to open Discoverer Plus, the configuration points the browser to a port that Apache isn't listening on anymore.
The fix is to have Apache listening on both 7777 and 80 when disabling WebCache. Or you can edit the configuration.xml file and and remove the port number so that it gets either 80 or 443 automatically.

  • How to stop the timing out of web Discoverer Plus

I was working in Plus, and it drove me crazy that I would loose my work because I kept my session open and it would time out.How to stop the timing out of web Discoverer Plus?
    Thank you,
    Olga

Please check Discoverer configuration guide which tells you which parameter to change in preference file(pref.txt).I think you change the value.

  • Dynamic Header names in Discoverer Plus

Hopefully someone have a solution for the following problem! :-)
In Discoverer Plus, all the numeric datapoints, create as a default, the following column header: "<Item name> SUM" (or AVG, COUNT, etc)
Our end users are not very pleased with this kind of column headers, they want only the <Item Name> to appear in the header.
One solution of course, is to change the column headers manually in the report.
The consequence of this solution, is that I have to do this change in every report where the <Item> is used.
Is there a mechanism in the configuration in Discoverer Plus or in Discoverer Administrator, which make the resulting column header to be limited to the <Item Name> and NOT containing the SUM, COUNT, etc. ?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi
No this is not possible I'm afraid as Discoverer always adds the aggregation type to the end of the name.
It's really not hard to rename the columns inside Plus and it only takes a couple of seconds to do so. Rather than allowing your users to remain not very pleased just explain why this is happening then hopefully they will understand.
It sounds like your users haven't had good training because this should be covered in a training course. If you're interested in training this is something that my company excels in.

  • How to pass parameter to a Discoverer Plus OLAP Worksheet??

    Hi,
I have used discoverer plus OLAP and portal to develop executive dashboards in my company. I put my date dimension in Page Item of discoverer plus OLAP worksheet to view a specific week/month/year of analysis i.e. Jul-07.
Now I have to open all the worksheets and change the page item value when week/month ends. If it was 'Jul-07' then I have to change it as 'Aug-07'.
In discoverer plus OLAP we can't pass parameters as we can in discoverer relational.
Can someone help me how I can set the new values without opening discoverer worksheets?
    Regards,
    Shahid

    Dear Shahid,
I downloaded the Oracle Application Server SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0. While installing It gave me two options
    1. Basic Install
Install J2EE server and SOA suite of applications including BPEL, ESB
    and OWSM.
    2. Advance Install (This gives 4 options)
    a. J2EE Server, Web Server and SOA suite
    b. J2EE Server and Web Server
    c. J2EE Server
    d. Web Server\
According to your instructions I need to install it as Insfrastructure, BI and portal. Now can you tell me which option of the install I should select in order to meet the requirements of Infrastructure, BI and Portal.
Because I am very new in this technology so If you can guide to me to get started at least then I can follow the Oracle Tutorial for further training.
Thanks very much in this regards.

  • Can't Display large total in Discoverer Plus

I am trying to display a large total (billions) in Discoverer Plus, however instead of displaying the actual number it displays "#######################". The number I am trying to display is 1,234,567,890. Other totals display fine, however they are only in the millions, not billions.
I am in Discoverer Plus so I can't change the cell/column size. I have also tried changing the font size to a much smaller size.
    Any suggestions?
    Currently Displays
    Col_A
    1,000
    1,513
    3,643
    Total: ################
    Need Displayed
    Col_A
    1,000
    1,513
    3,643
    Total: 1,234,567,890

    Thanks for the info John.
I'm using Discoverer Plus and don't have Discoverer Desktop, although our admin does. If he makes the change on Desktop will the change be reflected on Discoverer Plus as well?
I have tried a few different formatting changes in Discoverer Plus however my Discoverer Plus is down right now and can't get in to see if the change you recommended is available in Plus.
Again, thanks for the help...it is much appreciated.

  • Discoverer Plus

Hi I'm using Discoverer Plus, When I change a field in an existing report from being a some to detail, I get the following error message:- Contact with the discoverer server has been lost. to continue your work, please restart Discoverer Plus. If this problem persists contact your server administrator.
I then try to save the report and repeatedly get the same message not allowing me to save the report.
I have done a database session trace and I can see there are some parsing errors, although not sure what this really means.
Can anyone help or has anyone had this error before. Bit concerned as this is happening only on one report and only for the admin user.
    Please help... deperado...

    Hello
Another possibility is that changing to a Detail may now be causing a fan trap or replication of values which in turn are causing bad results.
I'd take the query back to the basics and knock things out then add the Detail to get a working report. At this point I would start adding items back in and see where the problem lies.
If you suspect that a fan trap may be the cause try temporarilly changing the properties of the join to be 1:1 instead of 1 to many.
    Best wishes

  • Discoverer plus running totals

    hi,
    any help will be appreciated.
I use Oracle discoverer plus. recently I tried to build a running total (average) calculation using the template provided. I defined 10 previous observations for this purpose. discoverer performed the calculation but the problem is with the first 9 (in this case) observations of the new calculation, because it averaged the first first observation, than the first two, than the first three and so on. when you get to the tenth observation it becomes correct, but you can imagine it is problematic, especially the graphic presentation. if I could present the graph only from the tenth observation and on it would be an acceptable compromise. any other suggestions are welcome too.
    Thanks.
    Mark.

    Hi,
I am afraid it is not at all clear what you are trying to do here. If you think of your results as a table of data do you want your calculation to be the same for all rows, a group of rows, or a running calculation changing for each row. Any graphical representation must be based on this underlying data.

  • DISCOVERER Plus connectivity issus

Encountering a connection issue when using DISCOVERER Plus. When attempting to refresh (using the refresh icon) after five-ten minutes of being idle, the message "Failed to connect to database" is received. Users then have to reconnect to DISCOVERER via the connection screen. I don't have any knowledge about disvocer. The platform is windows.
Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
The first think you will want to check is the timout preference for Discoverer Plus.
    It is located in <oracle_home/discoverer/util/pref.txt
Once you change it, you will need to run applpreferences.sh or applypfreferences.bat (for Windows) and the next sessions will pick up the change.
Discoverer Viewer timeout is in the web.xml file.. see the Discoverer Configuration Guide on OTN
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/discoverer.html
    Hope that helps.

  • Menu "Export" in Oracle Discoverer Plus 10g

    Hi..
Is there anyone knows how to hide "Export" menu in OracleBI Discoverer Plus 10g ?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Handoko

I have a T420 Lenovo with dual video card configuration is causing the Discoverer Plus 10g views to not refresh correctly.
I was able to find a solution to this issue. It requires the following changes in the system BIOS.
    •     In BIOS under Config -> Display ->Change the Graphics Devices to Discrete
    •     In BIOS under Config -> Display ->OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus -> Changed to Disabled
Now system will only use the Nvidia Card versus the dual card configuration (Nvidia + Intel HD Graphics)
    Discoverer Plus works correctly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error on connecting to discoverer plus

I'm triying to connect to Discoverer Plus or Viewer. When I get to the login screen, fill all the required fields, but I got the following message: "The application encountered an invalid state.
    - - Nested exception: org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE: vmcid: SUN minor code: 201 completed: No
OracleBI Discoverer Viewer was unable to find the necessary data for displaying the results of this event. Please correct any errors and try again."
can you please help me out so solve this prob.
the discoverer plus version is 10.1.2.48.18

Currently there is not enough information to realy de-bug the issue. I would look at the URL and verify that the URL with the connections page is the same as after entering the connection information. The URL can change if there is a Load Balancer or Proxy server involved.
Run the Discoverer script below to verify the Discoverer server is up and working.
    $MidOH/discoverer/util > . ./checkdiscoverer.sh
Next look in the Discoverer application.log for additional information about the error. It is located at:
    $MidOH/j2ee/oc4j_bi_forms/application_deployments/discoverer/oc4j_bi_forms_default_island_1
    If these messages do
You are running an older release of 10g. The latest production release of 10g is 10.1.2.3 with Cumulative Patch 6 applied. See Note 237607.1 - ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Versions. This Note is kept up to date.
