Change localisation of a filesystem

Hi there !
I'm a french user, so, I need my OS support special characters like é,è,ê etc ... So, I red the Forum and found a way to do it.  The only problem is that in console mode, everything is OK, I can see the file name with accents.  But, in KDE or e17, if I use the filemanager or even the xTerm/Konsole, I can't see accents anymore.  As soon as I'm under a desktop environment, all filename with accent are displaying sqare charactere instead of the accent.
Have you any idea why ???
What I did from now is add this to my /etc/profile
export LANG="fr_CA"
export LANGUAGE="fr_CA:fr:en:C"
export LC_ALL="fr_CA"
Thanks for your help !

Aucun idée! Je m'excusé.
Peut-etre google t'aide?
Dusty
Merci beaucoup !!!

  • What procedures exist for change raw devices to filesystem?

What procedures exist for change raw devices to filesystem?
I understand that only you can:
    - Backup Full (System with raw device) and Restore in System with Filesystem
    - Export/Import
    Specifically I want to know:
A backup (created in MaxDB 7.5 with DB in Rawdevices) can be restored on another System, with DB in file system??
Someone could give me details of the procedure?
    Someone knows another method?
    Greetings to all.

    > Specifically I want to know:
    > A backup (created in MaxDB 7.5 with DB in Rawdevices) can be restored on another System, with DB in file system??
    No problem as long as
    - the target systems database version is at the same patchlevel (or higher)
    - the target database is big enough
    - the target system has the same endianess (you can e. g. not import a backup from Windows to HP-UX)
A SAPDB/MaxDB backup has no information about the source filesystem setup, it contains only pages. There has "just" to be enough space to restore them.

  • How to change the number of filesystem inodes?

    Dear All,
May anyone advices me "How to change the number of filesystem inodes?" ?
    Thanks you in advance,
    Best regards,
    Soret,

As the old saying says: "You can tune a filesystem, but you can't tune a fish.".
Anyway, Robert is right, even if it might depend slightly on the type of filesystem, its in any case true for UFS. The few things you can tune for UFS are tuned with "tunefs"..
    .7/M.

  • How to realtime monitor changes in the filesystem?

Does anyone know of a way to realtime monitor for changes in the (windows) filesystem using Java. (file creation in particular). I've done this in VB and C++ using "findfirstchangenotification" which I think is part of the windows API.
I'm attempting the switch to Java, so I'm rewriting an app that requires this capability.
    Thanks.

You have to write a class that uses JNI to interface with the OSes underlying API. Since every OS is different Java doesn't have this feature built into the File (or related) class.
If you've done it before with C++, then all you have to do is probably just copy and paste some code into a java JNI header file. It will generate all the stub code for you all you have to do is fill in the details.

  • Enable Block Change Tracking in 11gr2

    Hi Team,
If my database file system is in ASM..Can I enable blk change tracking in local filesystem?
Or IS it better to do in ASM? Any new features in 11gr2?
    Regards,
    Manohar

Do you plan running DUPLICATE against that DB?
If yes, you should place the Block Change Tracking File in a location that would enable you to effectively deal with this nasty bug:
"Bug 10193846 - RMAN duplicate fails with ORA-19755 when BCT file is not accessible [ID 10193846.8]"
Also, If you plan to use DUPLICATE, you should “name” your Block Change Tracking File, rather than going with the system name.
This advice applied only for 11gR2 versions that are affected by the bug.

  • Why is "Apply to enclosed items" grayed out?

There is an archived thread on this issue but with no resolution. When I want to change permissions on the contents of a folder, very often the "Apply to enclosed items" button (in the Get Info Permissions panel) is grayed out.
Why? What's the fix? Is this a bug?
    QuickSilver dual-800 G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   X Server

You'll only be able to apply permissions to children folders using the Finder's interface (via the Get Info or Inspector window) if you're the file's POSIX owner or if otherwise your Effective Permissions return this control (e.g. the ability to perform writesecurity and chown via an applicable ACL entry).
But, generally speaking, the POSIX owner is delegated as the user who can change permissions for a filesystem object. Any administrator who is authorized root privileges (can "su to root") can change permissions for any filesystem object. Workgroup Manager provides a simple interface for doing this, but you may want to familiarize yourself with the chmod and chown commands for greater flexibility.
If you're using Mac OS X 10.4, you may find my ACL Tips to be useful: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=318161&start=0&tstart=0

Here is the log of the past few things I have done, starting with the full system update on the 19th which worked then. I also remember adding a 32 bit steam lib repository in an attempt to run steam with native libraries. Pacman did prompt me that it needed to update the db with pacman-db-upgrade after adding that repository I believe.

  • Home server limitations

    Heyo,
    tl;dr at bottom
I currently have a home server which has been running well however my storage requirements keep going up and have reached a point where a change is needed.
my system has a nonRAID HBA with connectivity for up to 16 drives.
I knew my storage requirements would grow but i have not anticipated the speed at which it has.
atm my system boots from an ssd, runs samba, ssh, sql, vpn, multiple simple nginx sites,
the storage setup atm is dm-raid with 7 drives in RAID5 with a drive soon to be added to provide RAID6.
I have ext4 on luks however i have come to a point where i cannot expand the array past 16TB, which i thought was no longer a problem with ext4
Google searches however showed me that it must be created above 16TB initially and that i cannot resize past 16TB.
i chose ext4 as i was expected to convert to btrfs once it became viable.
    my questions now are.
where should i go from here. im currently stuck in a 15TB filesystem quickly running out of space.
its important for me to have a single volume of data, with data protection(hd failure resolution+encryption) and becoming a concern in the long term is data integrity.
With the choice to convert over to btrfs i have another question in my head regarding raid/encryption. as i understand btrfs has raid1/0 support and potentially raid5+ in the future,
i currently like the filesystem ontop of luks ontop of dmraid, it makes sense to me.
if i change to btrfs does this layering choice make sense?
can someone recommend a more appropriate choice?
in the not to distant future my storage requirements may go up to around 30TB+ easily.
as i see it i can do the following.
    1. keep dm-raid+luks and replace ext4 with btrfs and grow volume(via convert filesystem) - (ok for meantime but an array of may disks like this doesnt sound ideal)
    2. change to a different filesystem that supports multi-device large volumes with the features requested.
    3. split up the storage into multiple smaller volumes(least preferred)
advice would be very much appreciated,
tl;dr HALP! many disk RAID array wont grow above 16TB(ext4) and need a solution for future.

I think that none of the setups both of you describe is really hacky. Layering several filesystems and whatnot on top of each other works fine and people do it all the time. I am, however, a bit critical of both approaches. (Particularly as a fan of ZFS, so consider me biased.)
    1. If seiichiro0185 uses a limited number of 4 disks as raid-z inside a NAS, then this is a perfectly fine solution. But with that setup he won't ever experience that large raid-z arrays with the wrong number of disks (for more info see here: http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/in … ces_Guide) or even several raid-z arrays grouped together (even more info here: http://constantin.glez.de/blog/2010/06/ … rformance) will give you performance hits.
    2. If smelly has 7 disks he wants to keep (and planning to add more over time, if I understood correctly), I would recommend what I wrote above: Creating a striped ZFS pool from sets of mirrors, similar to RAID-10, by using zpool add and zpool attach. This will give you less space than RAID-Z (granted) and maybe slower r/w speeds (don't know enough about that), but your CPU will have to do less work and you will be more flexible in adding/removing disks. Of course, you need an even number of disks for that, so 6 for now. creating mirrors of same-size (or similar size) disks and glueing them together to make one pool. You can add more mirrors to extend the pool over time, or, if one disk in a mirror fails you can replace it with a bigger one. As soon as you replace the other disk, ZFS will automatically grow the pool.
And keep in mind that setting up ZFS on top of anything else but physical disks (and most definitely placing ZFS anywhere above an mdadm layer) will practically disable ZFS's error correction magic!
I could go on and on about this but I'll stop here. Hope you don't mind the pamphlet.

  • Unable to create logical volume snapshot

    Hi All,
Pls note that the follwoing error is reported when a snapshot is being created  in our Oracle Linux Server release 5.11 box:
    [root@hawaii901 tmp]# lvcreate --size 500m --name snap /dev/ora_vg/vol02
Volume group name expected (no slash)
Run `lvcreate --help' for more information.
    Any clue on this issue?
    Thanks & Regards

LVM snapshot is a general purpose solution that was not designed with Oracle database in mind. It can be used, for example, to quickly create a snapshot prior to a system upgrade, then if you are satisfied with the result, you would delete the snaphot.
There is probably a common misconception. LVM snapshots, like all COW snapshosts that I'm aware off, allow to create a backup of a live filesystem while changes are written to the snapshot volume. Hence it's called "copy on write", or copy on change if you want. This is necessary for system integrity to make a complete backup of all data in a LVM volume at a certain point in time and to allow changes happening while the filesystem backup is taking place. A snapshot is no substitute for a disaster recovery backup in case you loose your storage media. A snapshot only takes seconds, and initially does not copy or backup any data, unless data changes. It is therefore important to delete the snapshot if no longer required, in order to prevent duplication of data and restore file system performance.
If snapshot or COW technololgy suits your purpose, you will actually want to look into BTRFS filesystem, which is more modern, employs the idea of subvolumes and is much more efficient that LVM.

  • AFP Strange Issue

I'm running afp on a 10.4.9 server and I'm having some strange issues. I'm wondering if someone can help me troubleshoot this issue.
Due to some machine room issues, we had to shutdown and reboot the machine last weekend. After that, we've had issues with users saving to the afp server. For example we've had issues with users opening excel files and not being able to click "save" to save them. They must do a "save as". Also a host of temp files are saved within the directory as well... Also big files, often times users will have to download them locally, then make modifications then save to the server. We had no troubles previous to the restart.
    Any suggestions?

    "Dave Provine
I'm not that folks quite understand. The fix is to be sure that the UIDs are unique on the workstations. Of course they have to be unique on the server.
Every time you setup a new OS X workstation, the first user is UID 501, so if you happen to setup a bunch of workstations with just one user each, all of them will have the same UID. THAT is the cause of the save bug. You must change the UIDs on each user's computer."
    "Dave Provine
This should work to change UID and permissions. From http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-12077.html
Changing UIDs in the terminal is a simple NetInfo property overwrite:
sudo niutil -createprop . /users/userName uid XXX
(replace userName as appropriate and XXX with the new UID number)
Finding and changing UIDs across the filesystem is a one-liner command:
    sudo find / -user UID -exec chown userName {} \;
(replace UID with the old UID number and userName with the new user name to associate file ownership.)"

  • How to undo "Set case to" on a column in the data foundation?

    Hello,
I have a multisource universe currently pointing at only one database (Oracle). In the data foundation I right-clicked one of the columns named "Category" and selected "Set case to upper case". This broke the query with the following error: "Database error: [Data Federator Driver] [Server] The column name 'CATEGORY' could not be found in the table/alias: 'Table__1'. (IES 10901) (WIS 10901)"
I would like to undo this change but can't find a way to do it. The only options in "Set case to" are upper and lower case, with no option to go back to the original/default. How can I fix this without having to reimport the table? I read that you can tweak case-sensitivity settings in a .prm file but I would rather not change things at the filesystem level.
EDIT: I worked around it by changing the object in the business layer to use the original case of the column name. But is there no way to change back how it actually looks in the data foundation? A minor issue perhaps, but annoying.
    Thanks.
    Pedro G. Acevedo

    Hi
We can make changes back using the Undo option.
If you have selected Category ..and selected
Selected "Set case to upper case" CATEGORY
selected "Set case to lower case" category
If you want the actual DB field Category use the option :
    Edit --> Undo Set (IDT)
If it is still not change back to “Category” , just delete the table from Data foundation and add again to same table once again and create the joins

  • How to get the initdefault run level in Solaris 10

    Hi All,
    In Solaris 9 and below
I will get the init run-level by checking the /etc/inittab entry
    is:3:initdefault:
But in Solaris 10 we are using the smf functionality.
Here how I can get the init default run level.
Please help me in this problem.
    Regards,
    Kalai

Init levels no longer form a 1:1 mapping with how SMF will run things.
The default milestone is 'all'. You can override this on the boot line. I'm not sure how you might change it within the filesystem.

  • How to disable the kernel SCTP deamon in Solaris 10

we have third party sctp implementation on sol8 n sol9. Now we are going to shift it to sol10. while it initiate the INIT message the kernel sctp of peer node send abort back to our node. So i need to disable kernel sctp of peer node.
    thanks in advance...

  • Inserting Tabs in the webtemplate

    Hi, People.
I'm trying to insert the tab pages in to the webtemplate like shown inthe documetation example described following by this link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/65/c54a7e1a1b584589d238ba188df053/content.htm
but actually  I don't get the desired result, I thought may because of some wrong use of goto_tab function , but actually I have no idea where axactly . Can anyone axplain the meaning of all parameters in call
SAPBWOpenURL(SAP_BW_URL_Get()'&item=TAB*&multi=X&hidden=X&cmd_1=item%3d'tabname+'*%26hidden%3d %26multi%3dX'); or may be there is some problem with this call?..

Terence Devlin It was not my intention to step on your tone, Sorry for that.
    But.
    +Pathfinder is not a System Add-on. It's an application.+
That is right it's an addition to the finder with different graphics and so it's not a modification to the standard window. What I like is a basic Finder window with just added tabs.
+Sweeping generalisation there... and you've tried them all? Really?+
Yes, I do think I tried them all and I still think they all miss the simplicity and elegance of the Finder windows. But if you know a good alternative (not pathfinder) I really would like that.
+Pathfinder brings many very useful functions to the table - that's why one might consider it.+
You are right. I do totally agree on that. But I rather work with the standard Finder window/info window , etc.
+On the contrary it "do leaving the finder as it is" - it makes not a whit of a difference to the Finder, you can even run the two side by side if you want. Changes made in the filesystem with one will be instantly available in the other. Perhaps, in trying "all those system add-ons" you didn't try them very carefully.+
That is exactly my point you end up using them side by side. Two different windows with things on different places. But I think on this point you really did not try to see what I was talking about.
+Case in point. The Pathfinder window is highly customisable and all that functionality that you don't like can be hidden away.+
Yes, But did you find a way to show all the other computers in the network in the side bar like the Finder (leopard) does?

  • Sun Cluster 3.3 Mirror 2 SAN storages (storagetek) with SVM

    Hello all,
I would like to know if you have any best practice for mirroring two storage systems with svm on sun cluster without corrupting/loosing data from the storages.
I currently have enabled the multipath on the fc (stmsboot) after that configure the cluster and created the SVM mirror with the did devices.
I have some issues that i wan to know if there's gonna be any problem.
    a) 4 quorum votes. As i have two (2) nodes and 2 storages that i need to know which is up i have 4 votes, so in order the cluster to start needs 3 votes. Is there any solution on this like cldevice combine ?
    b) The mirror is on SVM level so when a failover happens the metasets go to the other node. Is there any change to start the mirror from the second SAN insteand of the first and have any kind of corruption? Is there someway to better protect the storage ?
    c) The storagetek has option for snapshots, is there a good way of using this feature or not?
    d) Is there any problem by failling over global filesystems (global option in mount)? The only thing that may write in this filesystem is the application itself that belongs in the same resource group, so when it will need to fail over it will stop all the proccesses accessing this filesystem and it would be ok to unmount it.
Best regards to all of you,
    PiT

Thank you very much for your answers Tim, they are really very helpfull, i only have some comments on them to be fully answered.
    a) Its all answered to me. I thing that i will add the vote from only one storage and if the storage goes down, i will tell the customer to check the quorum status and add the second storage as QD. The quorum server is not a bad idea, but if the network is down for some reason i thing that bad thing will happen so i dont wont to relly on that.
    b) I think you are clear enough.
    c) I thing you are clear enough! (just as i thought this would happen for the snapshots....)
    d) Finally, if this filesystem is in a metadisk that is been started from the first node and the second node is proxing to the first node for the metaset disks, is there any change to lock the filesystem/ metaset group and don't be able to take it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pit
(I will also look the document you mention, a lot of thanks)
