Change Pwd on IMAP accounts

Hi,
I had to change passwords on two IMAP accounts.
When I tried to change them on my iPhone 3GS it does not work, and it displays a message like "username or pwd not valid". Then I removed these accounts from the iPhone and I created two new accounts, with the all IMAP/SMTP settings, correct username and new pwds. But the message is always the same. Moreover mail write on the inbox a message like "updated at 9.01 a.m." that is the time just before pwd change. It seems like it is mantaing all previous settings!
Is anybody have any idea?
Thanks
vincenzo

perhaps you could create a rule instead and trigger this via applescript.
It is a workaround, but probaly a reliable soliution...
perform mail action with messages v : Script handler invoked by rules and menus that execute AppleScripts. The direct parameter of this handler is a list of messages being acted upon.
perform mail action with messages list of message : the message being acted upon
in mailboxes mailbox : If the script is being executed by the user selecting an item in the scripts menu, this argument will specify the mailboxes that are currently selected. Otherwise it will not be specified.
for rule rule : If the script is being executed by a rule action, this argument will be the rule being invoked. Otherwise it will not be specified.

  • Need help with an error message when making changes to an IMAP account

I have several IMAP accounts in my Mac Mail. Today when I tried to edit the, "Full Name" associated with the account I got an error message that said:
    Invalid Directory
The account path /Users/kristen/Library/Mail/[email protected]@host365.ISPhost.com is already being used by the account "Silver"
Did I somehow corrupt something? I'm not sure why making this small change to the full name would cause such an error. Please help.
    Thanks!!

stop() forcibly kills a thread. You shouldn't use this method because if the thread is in a critical section of code, you can cause data corruption or deadlock.
Instead, if you need to stop execution from another thread, invoke the interrupt() method.
    Good luck.

  • How can i change a POP3 account to an IMAP account ???

How can i change a POP3 account to an IMAP account ???

    Hi,
In Outlook we can't "convert" an account from POP3 to IMAP directly. Just setup the account as IMAP and remove the POP3 one. You may need to keep a backup of the POP3 .pst if you downloaded and removed the items from the server. Once the IMAP account
is setup, move the items from the old .pst flie into the new account.
If you didn't remove the items on the server when using the POP3 account, you can choose not to keep the .pst file as long as the items are still on the server.

Since it is affecting all your devices also, try going to the e-mail web site and seeing if you can log in there. Who is the e-mail provider?
Try deleting the pass word from Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.
If that doesn't work, try deleting and adding back the e-mail account.

  • Why does the settings of my IMAP account changed without my assistance?

I have the problem that on my new iPhone 5 (IOS 6) the "mailbox behaviour" for the folders "Drafts", "Sent" and "Trash" changed twice back from my selected settings (Folder in the IMAP-Account) to "On my iPhone" without my assistance? Why? The same happened to the select box below where to define when emails in the trash folder should be deleted permanently.

Are you using RTF for message composition or Plain Text?
If RTF, try using Plain Text instead when sending messages thru an Exchange Server. Windows Outlook does the same when using RTF for message composition but sending messages thru an Exchange Server also has an effect.

I would like to change my POP mail account to an IMAP account but Maverick is making it difficult. Anyone have any ideas?

I have tried to create a new account but the latest version of Mac Mail attempts to help you. Since I already have a POP account with my carrier, each time I try to create a new account mail assumes I want a new POP account and creates that type of account. It does not give me the opportunity to input the options I want.

  • TS3276 how do you change a Pop email account to a IMAP

One of our family's email accounts does not work properly.  We have multiple Apple products.  My son's email was originally set up on my MacBook Pro as a Pop account.  Then it was set up on my iphone as a Pop account.  Next it was set up on the Ipad as an IMAP account because that was how my daughter's email was set up on it.  The email works on the MacBook every once in awhile.  It works on my iphone whenever a new email is incoming.  The rest of the time it says invalid password.  AT&T says that MacBook Pros can't handle Pop email.  (although it used to work just fine)  How can I change his email from a Pop to an IMAP?

MacBook Pro's (along with any other Macintosh) can handle POP email just fine.  The email type is set by your mail provider, so you just need to create a mail account (in the Mail preferences) with the settings they specify.

  • IMAP account "standard folders"

I've been following another Mail thread about IMAP folders that highlights my own confusion about the expected behavior while creating & maintaining an IMAP account.
Background: I created an AOL IMAP account in Mail, using the settings I found online for account creation. (There was no indication of a need for, nor have I entered, anything in the IMAP Path Prefix field.) This created an "AOL IMAP" inbox (in the inbox parent) & an "AOL IMAP" account group mailbox with (@) icon, containing four subfolders named as follows: Sent Items, Saved, Spam, & VOICEMAIL. There were no other mailboxes created by creating this account (no "AOL IMAP" mailbox in Mail's "Sent" parent or in its "Drafts" one.)
It is my understanding that the four subfolders already exist on AOL's servers for any AOL subscriber. They are all visible using AOL's webmail interface, although the AOL client software for OS X (unlike the Windows one) allows direct access only to Sent Items, which it labels "Sent Mail." (There is an "Old Mail" tab, but it is in effect only recently read "inbox" mail, & has nothing to do with "Saved Mail," which the AOL client doesn't support.)
All four of these subfolders are supported by Mail.app. However, since all are created as subfolders in the 'group account' I gather from the referenced & other Discussions topics, none are not recognized as what is sometimes referred to as "standard folders" ... which I take to mean a set of mailbox names Mail knows to use for a particular purpose.
So, here is question #1: is this right? Does Mail come with a set of names it expects IMAP servers to use for sent mail, deleted mail (a.k.a Trash), junk mail, etc? Alternately, is there a standard for such things, or does Apple (for example) just include the .Mac mailbox names & expect the user to make any changes for other IMAP conventions?
I'm aware of the "Use This Mailbox For" function in Mail. However, this appears to be a one shot, one way deal: once you select one of the use options for a mailbox in an account, you cannot undo the choice. (IOW, there is no "none" choice.)
This leads to question #2: Is here a simple way to undo this?
AOL, possibly among others, has its own way of handling things like Spam & deleted items, so there isn't necessarily a direct correspondence with Mail's Junk & Trash mailboxes. Thus, I have no idea if Mail's 'use for' function would cause any problems if applied to them.
Question #3: Does anyone have any insights regarding this?
I would like to have a Mail trash mailbox that corresponds to AOL's version (which is a sort of grace period holding tank similar to Trash, except that AOL controls how long items stay in it before deletion from its servers). problem is, there is nothing like that that appears in Mail, either under the group account or elsewhere.
Question #4: Is there any way to create such a folder, or should one have been created in Mail's main Trash mailbox for this account by the app itself?
I just recently used the 'use for' function to tell Mail to use the AOL "Sent Items" originally in the AOL group account for mail sent from that account. This resulted in the mailbox being moved into Mail's main "Sent" mailbox & renamed "AOL IMAP." So far, so good, but leads to
Question #5: Is this what is supposed to happen?

(There was no indication of a need for, nor have
I entered, anything in the IMAP Path Prefix field.)
This is correct. You don't need anything to be put there.
This created an "AOL IMAP" inbox (in the inbox parent)
& an "AOL IMAP" account group mailbox with (@) icon,
    This is expected behavior.
It is my understanding that the four subfolders
already exist on AOL's servers for any AOL subscriber.
That's probably the case. Mail certainly didn't create them by itself.
All four of these subfolders are supported by Mail.app.
Not sure what you mean here.
However, since all are created as subfolders in the 'group
account' I gather from the referenced & other Discussions
topics, none are not recognized as what is sometimes referred
to as "standard folders" ... which I take to mean a set of
mailbox names Mail knows to use for a particular purpose.
Correct. The fact that they appear in the account group means Mail isn't using them for any predefined meaning. And the reason is that they don't have the same name that Mail uses for them by default.
So, here is question #1: is this right?
    Yes.
Does Mail come with a set of names it expects IMAP servers to use
I don't think Mail expects anything. It just creates the folders it uses by default if they aren't already there, and ignores the rest.
is there a standard for such things,
There is no standard, each server can do whatever it wants.
or does Apple (for example) just include the .Mac mailbox names &
expect the user to make any changes for other IMAP conventions?
Yes. And these names predate .Mac, actually. The same names are used by the *.mbox folders within any POP account folder in ~/Library/Mail/.
I'm aware of the "Use This Mailbox For" function in
Mail. However, this appears to be a one shot, one way
deal: once you select one of the use options for a
mailbox in an account, you cannot undo the choice.
(IOW, there is no "none" choice.)
This leads to question #2: Is here a simple way to undo this?
There has always to be a mailbox for each purpose (even if it has not been created yet), either stored locally or on the server. You cannot de-assign a folder for a standard behavior without telling Mail which other folder should be used instead -- by doing Use This Mailbox For on another mailbox or by telling Mail to not store those messages on the server, for example.
AOL, possibly among others, has its own way of handling
things like Spam & deleted items, so there isn't
necessarily a direct correspondence with Mail's Junk &
Trash mailboxes. Thus, I have no idea if Mail's 'use for'
function would cause any problems if applied to them.
    Neither do I. Try it.
Question #3: Does anyone have any insights regarding this?
I don't know much about AOL myself. According to this article:
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html
it seems that you must uncheck the Store messages on the server options (except for Trash), in order to be able to use AOL with Mail, but the problem could very well be just that AOL doesn't allow Mail to create new folders on the server, yet you can still tell Mail to use the ones created by AOL.
I would like to have a Mail trash mailbox that
corresponds to AOL's version (which is a sort of
grace period holding tank similar to Trash, except
that AOL controls how long items stay in it before
deletion from its servers). problem is, there is
nothing like that that appears in Mail, either under
    the group account or elsewhere.
I have the feeling that Mail is already doing what you want, and the reason you cannot see that folder is because the name used by AOL is the same as the one used for Mail (Deleted Messages), and thus, Mail has already been using that folder for that purpose since the beginning.
Question #4: Is there any way to create such a
folder, or should one have been created in Mail's
main Trash mailbox for this account by the app itself?
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-AOLaccount/. Do you see a Deleted Messages.imapmbox folder there? If yes, and that folder does not appear in the account group in Mail, then Mail is already doing what you want.
I just recently used the 'use for' function to tell
Mail to use the AOL "Sent Items" originally in the
AOL group account for mail sent from that account. This
resulted in the mailbox being moved into Mail's main "Sent"
mailbox & renamed "AOL IMAP." So far, so good, but leads to
Question #5: Is this what is supposed to happen?
    Yes.
Regarding my #5 issue, I just noticed a new local
folder in Mail I assume was a result of choosing to
use "Sent Items" in the AOL IMAP account mailbox.
This mailbox is named (not surprisingly) "Sent
Messages (AOL IMAP)" & exists at the root mailbox level.
This is the folder Mail was using to store sent messages locally instead of on the server (when Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Store sent messages on the server was not checked).
Problem is, the local "Sent Messages (AOL IMAP)"
mailbox doesn't contain any messages I sent from the
AOL account after I set Mail to use the "Sent Items"
mailbox for mail sent from that account.
Nor should it. You've told Mail to use another mailbox for that.
So, question #6 becomes: how do I get this local mailbox
to save a copy of messages I send from the account?
You don't. Mail will use it again (and it will disappear from the mailboxes list) if you disable Store sent messages on the server.
More weirdness: in Finder the info for this folder
says it was created at the same time as a "Drafts
(AOL IMAP).mbox" & shortly before creating "Junk (AOL
IMAP).mbox" ... yet these creation dates are
approximately one year before the main
"[email protected]" or its contents like
"Sent Items.imapmbox" were created! IOW, Finder tells
me these folders were created on my Mac around a year
before I set Mail up for the AOL account!
I have no idea what's going on here.

  • How do i create an imap account in my iphone 4s (iOs 7.1.1)?

crazy but to try and setup my PC contacts stored in windows live mail I deleted the comcast imap email acct in my iphone to recreate it as an outlook or exchange acct (as i was directed to do in another apple support string). Well, got an error message that the account couldn't be verified. So.... what the heck I then tried to simply recreate my comcast imap email account in my iphone and am unable to do it !
all the instructions i've found advise:
    add new acct
    other
then on the next screen to enter the new acct information each instruction set shows the iphone screen has 2 buttons > imap or pop > but iOs 7.1.1 does NOT have the buttons so the acct gets set up as a POP which it isnt.
so why is the IMAP button not there?????? help !

ok sorry everyone but i solved it myself but the solution is so nuts i've posted it here to help others who have the same problem.
to setup a comcast imap account on your iphone:
go to mail, contacts, etc in settings
    under accts, select add account
    select "other"
new screen, choose "add mail account"
now on the new acct screen you must enter your name, email address and password for your GMAIL acct ! (yes i said your gmail acct !, or some other acct with a NON comcast address).
    hit next
    then the acct verifies
when verified a screen will open with all the acct settings for this acct AND @ the top of the screen are the 2 buttons > imap or POP
select imap and THEN CHANGE ALL THE ACCOUNT information to the comcast account !
then hit next and the account will take a couple minutes to verify but it will verify and now you have a comcast imap acct set up on your iphone.  The problem must be that when the iphone sends the initial verify acct info to comcast (if you enter that information first) the comcast server is simply not setup yet to signal the iphone that there is an imap option.

  • How can I change the default mail account in mail v6.3

I have in my mail preferences four accounts. The first one is a "Google IMAP" and all others are just "IMAP". When I'm composing a new email it defaults to the wrong account. Intuitively I think the the first account listed under mail preference would be the default one, but I'm unable to move the order. How to I change this?

To change your default mail account, you just have to change the mail accounts order in the Mail sidebar. First of all, if you don't see your mailboxes under "Inbox" (at the top of the sidebar), press the arrow, and your mail accounts will appear.
Now, you just have to drag the mail account you want by default to the first position

  • Problem with marking mail as Not Junk in IMAP account

    Hi,
I have an IMAP email account on Go Daddy that I forward all my other mail accounts for processing. I use Apple Mail to process this IMAP account and use Mail.app's Junk filter to move Junk mail to the Junk mailbox. This Junk mailbox is mapped in Mail.app to my Go Daddy Bulk Mail IMAP folder, and the Trash and Inbox are also mapped to their respective folders of this IMAP account's Mail.app is set to "Enable junk mail filtering" and "Move it to the junk mailbox".
When junk mail comes in, Mail.app correctly identifies the mail as junk and moves it to the Junk folder. However, if I find a message that Mail.app misidentified as junk and I attempt to mark it as Not Junk, the message gets a Not Junk status (not brown anymore), but the message stays in the Junk folder; Mail.app does not move it back into the Inbox.
I would assume that since both the Inbox and Junk mail (Bulk Mail) folders are IMAP and on the same account, that upon marking the message as Not Junk, this mail should be moved back into the Inbox, just like under POP.
Am I mistaken about the operation of Junk mail under IMAP? Should marking a message as Not Junk move it automatically to the Inbox? Do I have my folders and options set right? Should I possibly use a 3rd party Spam filter such as SpamSieve (where I can control its actions via Applescript)?
    Thanks for any info.
    Mike

Ah Ernie, I think you found out my "problem".
Before I upgraded to SN, I used SpamSieve to manage my POP SPAM. When I changed to SN, I did away with SpamSieve and POP, and used IMAP and Mail.app's Junk filtering. SpamSieve, since its "Mark As Junk" and "Mark As Not Junk" functionality uses Applescript, it must've moved the Not Junk message back to the inbox.
Thanks for the pointer; I may change back to SpamSieve to get back that functionality.
    Mike

  • How to convert an IMAP account to POP?

I have an existing Gmail IMAP account that has long been registered with TB as IMAP.
I am not happy with the workings of IMAP and want to change (back) to POP3 - preferably without losing my TB folders and messages.
GMAIL gives instructions on how to change server settings at its end, but what it describes for the corresponding TB setting seems to apply only when creating a NEW account in TB.
So can I change my TB settings for the existing Gmail account to have a POP3-type server? If so, how?

    Hi Christ1,
I know I can convert the existing account to a POP3-type in Gmail. If I do something in TB
    # to preserve all my files and folders
    # to change the name of the Gmail account
    # to create a new POP3 account in the name of the converted Gmail account
do you think would that work?

  • Error using multiple email addresses in IMAP account

Thanks for reading - any help, advice or direction you can offer is very much appreciated!
Here is my situation: I use a single IMAP account with several email addresses. If it's important to know, they are all set up as aliases, so I can receive mail in one single account at all of the addresses and can send email from any of the addresses through the same SMTP account.
This behaves radically differently in Mail (iPhone and iPad) under iOS 6 than it did in iOS 5, and I need the behavior I had in iOS 5.
I am seeking help in figuring out how to make iOS 6 Mail behave the way iOS 5 Mail did.
Here's how I set it up in iOS 5: I used the primary email address (also my login for the IMAP/SMTP account) to set up the account on the iPad. This all worked. Once it was set up, I went back to settings and added the other email addresses as a comma-separated list in the "email" field after the primary one.
Then, when I went to compose a message (from mail, or from any other app), the default "from" address was the primary e-mail address (the first one listed), and it allowed me to tap on the "from" field and select a different one.
This changed in iOS 6, like this:
I set up the account the same way as above. With just the primary e-mail address it was fine. But when I added the other addresses and saved it, it seemed to choose one address at random from the list as primary (not the first one, not the last one, not the one first or last alphabetically, just one in particular - and the same one each time I tried this). Then when I compose mail, it defaults to that alternate email as the "from".
    So:
I need to have it default to the primary email address as the "from," I need to have all the alternate emails available to me to choose from, and I need to have it all set up as one account. I have tried to set up a second account on the iPad with all the alternate email addresses, but since the IMAP and SMTP logins are the same, the iPad won't let me.
Any ideas, suggestions, direction, solutions, etc. are very much appreciated!
    Details: iPad 2nd gen. WiFi+3G, iOS 6

I think this is a bug, and I've reported it as such. More reports usually equals faster service: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
For now, I've come up with the following work-around:
    1. Leave your multi-account as-is set up on your iPhone, but remove your preferred default e-mail address from the list
    2. Set up a new e-mail account with IMAP access (i.e. Gmail or whatever)
    3. Create a new IMAP e-mail account on your iPhone/iPad with the details of this new account for the IMAP (receive) settings, but with your original e-mail account's SMTP (send) settings. Also, set the "Email" field in the account setup to be your preferred default e-mail address.
    4. Set this new mail account as the default in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Now, when you create a new message, you should see that your default "from" address is correct - since it is the only choice for the new mail account you set up in iOS. As long as the SMTP settings are correct, it doesn't matter that your IMAP settings don't match.
You should still be able to select any other "from" address as well, which will use your original multi-account settings, which are also correct.
All of your received mail will come in through your original multi-account inbox, and your new account's inbox will likely stay empty.
It seems like I'm forgetting a step here, but this should give you the right idea for a workaround if it isn't exactly right. Feel free to add corrections if you find them.

  • I see briefly the content of my Mail Inbox of an IMAP account, then everything disappear and the inbox is empty

    Hi There,
I have beeen experiencing for the past few days some issues with my Inbox of an IMAP based email account. My inbox is empty.
When I start mail my Inbox is empty after briefly appearing at the sgtart of the application.
I installed thunderbird to verify that my IMAP account was not the issue and I can clearly see, receive and send email.
I can also access that account via a webmail interface and everything seems fine.
The problem started occuring after getting some error messages from the server indicating that I had gobe over the allocated quota. I cleaned up the account but now mail does present me an empty inbox. Again the account info are valid, nothing has changed.
The interesting things is that my iphone & ipad that are using the same setup and my inbox is also empty there.
With mountain lion (clean install), I can see the emails arriving via the notification bar.
I am at a loss and would appreciate any help if somebody has encountered such a problem.
    Thanks
    Eric

Try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
