Changing Folder Permissions after upgrading to Leopard

I just upgraded to Leopard and previously while being logged into the computer as admin, I was able to set "no access" permissions to specific folders.
I always thought this was a waste of time, regardless, I was able to do it and now can not.
Under "Get Info_Sharing & Permissions" for the specific folder, there are three groups available...admin(me), (unknown) and everyone. Everyone is the only selection that gives me the option to set "no access." "no access" is not available for the other two; admin and unknown.
When logged in under another profile (which is NOT listed under "Get Info_Sharing & Permissions" of this file) when I select "no access" under "everyone" of this file, I immediately see the icon change to a folder with a red minus symbol. It can't be accessed when double clicking. It says you don't have enough access privileges. This is what I'm looking to replicate under the admin profile. Something I could do before.
Am I missing something new in Leopard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I've only had a brief moment at home to verify the problems you are having. Honestly I haven't put much thought in to it. But, in the meantime, while I try and think of why this is, if you aren't too uncomfortable going into the Terminal you can do this from the commandline fairly easily.
Assuming you want no access for "Everyone", open Terminal.app and type:
"chmod 750 " (without quotes and ensuring you have the trailing space).
Now, drag the file or folder you want to grant no access to onto the terminal window. Its path should show up and now you can press enter and now Everyone won't be able to read or write to this folder.
If you want to get rid of any access for Everyone and the group that owns the file/folder, then do the same as above but instead of "chmod 750..." do "chmod 700 ..."
Hope this helps until I can get a GUI fix going.

  • Final Cut Studio license invalid after upgrading to Leopard?

    Hello,
After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.1, Final Cut Studio v5.1.4 and its companion apps like DVD Studio 4 do not recognize my FC Studio License as valid. I input the license key and it says:
    "Licensing Error
This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I am a licensed user via the FC Studio Crossgrade since 2006 and all has been fine with Tiger before Leopard.
I have used Disk Utility to "repair permissions". I have removed the FC files from the Preferences folder to give it a clean start.
    PERHAPS A HINT?:
So I tried to re-install FC Studio 5.1 from the FC Install DVD and I get this message after inputting the key:
    "Alert
Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I have Administrator privileges on this account and I even tried to install it as 'root' and the same error occurs.
Is there a file that I need to change permissions on?
THANKS for any help here! And happy holidays.
    Bonafide

    Hi,
Unfortunately there is also an issue with installing FCS2 on a brand new installation with Leopard and this licensing error.
"Alert Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
This also occurs, apparently, that if you are logged in with an Active Directory user with Admin privileges it still will not let you install the product keys.
This is much the same as a problem with Adobe CS3 products, only the updates work when you are logged in with a local admin - not an Active Directory Admin.
Both these problems are really really annoying for those on corporate networks - such as myself.
For my problem, I had to log out as my AD account, login as a local admin and then install the software. .

  • Sound input (line-in) not working after upgrade to Leopard

I have upgraded my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo (white plastic frame version) to Leopard on Friday when it released. The upgrade process went very well with one MAJOR exception: Audio input through "Line-in" connection does not work anymore. I have tried everything that comes to mind so far from rebooting, to unplugging and replugging, to checking back all system settings, etc. Nothing works. At this point, I can't use my headset anymore for making calls with Skype or using voice chat in games. I would seriously need some help as I refuse to have paid $129 only to have Apple themselves break something in their products.
For this reason, I have to currently consider Leopard a failure. Reason being, in MS Windows or Linux, there always is a way around to make things work... I can't find anything at all with this release of the OS.

The OP reported their line-in input "broke" after upgrading to Leopard, however my MBP stopped recognising input from the mic on my headset a few weeks ago when I was still running Tiger. This might possibly indicate that the change in OS X's handling of the line-in input was present in a Tiger update, but I can't remember the exact correlation between the dates of my last update and this problem. All the same, I'm pretty annoyed that a headset that worked perfectly for several months is now suddenly unusable without a USB adapter.
Prior to stumbling across this thread, I visited two Apple stores, who both tested with an output from an iPod and told me that the input was working fine, leading me to buy a brand-new headset (even though I'd tested other working headsets without success) which, naturally, produced the same results.
Seems to me that the hardware is fully capable of processing a mic input through the line-in port, as it's never had any problems with any unpowered source until recently, so Apple must surely be able to undo the change they made?

  • Fonts Missing in Mail after upgrading to Leopard

After upgrading to Leopard, the fonts are missing in the font window in Mail program. I can compose only using what looks like helvetica. This is true only with this program. Any suggestions? Thanks

After an elimination process, it appeared that there was a conflict of some sort on one of the accounts I had and unfortunately, that was the one with the most messages. Its a pain but my only work around it was to start all over again with Mail. If it helps yo, this is what I did: a) backed up my Mail : user/library/mail and backed up the preference file : user/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    b) removed the Mail preference : user/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    c) restarted Mail and created the accounts all over again via the setup helper
    d) imported the mail boxes from where I saved them including those in the 'pop' folder
Now I have they old messages available in a folder I renamed 'archived' that is in the "ON MY MAC" section of the side bar.
IT IS TEDIOUS AND I AM PRETTY SURE THERE IS A MORE ACCURATE SOLUTION OUT THERE TO THIS PROBLEM.

  • IPhone won't sync after upgrading to Leopard

My iPhone won't sync, or even show up in iTunes, after upgrading to Leopard. I've tried restarting my Macbook Pro, trying different USB slots, closing and reopening iTunes, everything. Has anyone else had this problem??
    I've tried everything apple suggests:
    1. The iPhone battery might need to be recharged. For information about charging iPhone, see "Charging the Battery" in the iPhone User's Guide.
    2. If that doesn't work, disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPhone to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard).
    3. If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: If you enter the PIN incorrectly three times, you may need to contact your carrier for a Personal Unlocking Key (PUK) to enable your SIM card again.
    4. If that doesn't work, restart your computer and reconnect iPhone to your computer.
    5. If that doesn't work, download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.

You might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Follow the link below for info on how to do this.

    Hi,
I have opened IDVD for the first time after upgrading to Leopard and it does not work correctly anymore.
The motion screen is in black and does not show anything (while you can hear the sound of the theme selected)
This happens with already created projects and new projects
    All since upgraded to Leopard
It is possible to see a movie in an already created project, if you are able to go through the menuscreens and select the movie without actually seeing anything. Than the movie is shown correctly.
I work with the latest version of Leopard and IDVD, all on a macbook

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse keeps freezing after upgrading to Leopard

My bluetooth mighty mouse has frequent, intermittent freezes (which appear to be a loss of sync to the iMac) after upgrading to Leopard (now 10.5.1) from 10.4.11 on my iMac 24" alum body. This mouse was rock solid on my iMac running Tiger. Luckily I do have a corded mouse which I've been forced to use the past week or so.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks.

I was just trying to help my Dad with the same exact issue (Mighty Mouse stops working on waking from sleep & trying to open bluetooth prefs at that point causes the system to lock up. Have to hold down power button to reboot)
Oddly I have Leopard on my iMac 2.16 Core 2 Duo and have no issues with my Mighty Mouse.
Hopefully someone comes up with an answer .... My Dad is 80 and just bought a new Powerbook and Mighty Mouse. It's hard to explain why the mouse doesn't work.

  • After upgrading to Leopard: Leopard crashes because of "SFWordProcessing"

    Hi!
Sorry for this double posting, but actually "rachelynne" posted here problem in the iWeb-Forum.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1221556&tstart=0
So, this is my problem: If I type any letters into a pages document, i might suddenly crash with the same "SFWordProcessing"-Problem like rachelynne already described. This first occured after upgrading to Leopard.
Maybe you need the crash report?
I am not able to continue working with Pages. Please, help me, Apple =)
    Fadi

I GOT IT!!!! after many frustrating hours, i have figured it out. at least the problem i think you have, and that i had. when you plug in your iphone, and iphoto auto-launches, go to the prefrences in iphoto, and at the bottom of the "general" tab, the "connecting camera opens..." drop down needs to be set to "NO APPLICAION" or whatever. in other words, you want iphoto to do nothing when a camera is plugged in. then unplug iphone, and plug back in. you still may need to launch itunes manually, but it will be there.

  • Keyboard issues after upgrading to Leopard

Seems there's been quite a bit of discussion about this topic already but it's been confined to laptops and I haven't seen a solution yet. I'm seeing the same problems on a desktop computer using either a wireless or USB keyboard.
After upgrading to Leopard, my keyboard would occasionally stop responding to keystrokes. I have seen this happen on both an Apple USB keyboard and my Logitech wireless keyboard. With either keyboard, the letter and number keys would stop responding but keys like the CapsLock and Delete keys would still work. I have seen this happen when using Mac Office 2004 (Excel and Word) and Safari. With Excel, when the keyboard stops responding, if I click on a different cell, the keyboard comes back. I did update to 10.5.2 and I do have the latest version of the Logitech software but the problems still persist.
Strangely, I have only seen this happen on my MacPro but NOT my MacBook. There is a difference on how each machine was upgraded to Leopard though. On my MacBook, I did a clean install of Leopard on a new hard drive and then migrated my docs and apps from the old drive. On my Mac Pro, I did an upgrade installation over Tiger. Fortunately, I cloned my hard drive prior to installing Leopard so going back is an option and so is doing a clean install followed by a migration which is what I did on my MacBook.
Is there a fix for the keyboard problems? Am I going to have to downgrade back to Tiger?

Thanks for posting this. I thought I was alone in the universe. I have the problem with my mini, which came with Leopard installed. The USB keyboard will stop working in Word or Entourage ('04) and I have to close and reopen the document to get the keyboard going again. Thankfully, my mouse still works when this happens, so I can use it to close and save.
It seems to sometimes be triggered when I switch between applications, but I haven't been able to replicate it consistently. It is particularly bad when using find in Word. The find window will go dead and I have to close it and reopen it to do another search. (Though interestingly, I don't have to close the Word doc.)
    It's irritating.

  • MacBook Pro spontaneously wakes from sleep after upgrading to Leopard?

For some reason, after I upgraded to Leopard, then whenever I put my MacBook Pro to sleep, it spontaneously wakes up after some time (can be from a few minutes to an hour or two.) I don't know why this is happening, but I know for sure that it's related to Leopard since I put my laptop to sleep every night (it's in my bedroom) and after upgrading to Leopard, it started to just wake up a short while after putting it to sleep.
At first I thought it could be Time Machine, so I disconnected all my external drives, but that didn't seem to work.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue. Installed Leopard last night on my first-gen 1.83 MacBook. The next morning the Mac was a little slow in wanting to wake up. After that it stalled on transferring a large file from my G5 and I had to issue a reboot command via the shell to get it out of that. A few minutes later the computer locked up when trying to apple > tab through the application.
I put it to sleep after restarting the Mac from that freeze. A while later while walking out of the house I happened to glance at the Macbook and saw the apple glowing while the lid was shut and then it went back to sleep.
Tonight I put the Macbook to sleep on the way out to dinner. I noted that I had 84% of my battery left. A few hours later when I got home the MB was warm, the apple was glowing and I had 9% of my battery left.
Looks like there is some work to be done asap for 10.5.1

  • Stuck in a "loop" at the login window after upgrading to Leopard

I bought a new iMac Oct 26. It contained Tiger, and included a disk for installing Leopard. I easily got the machine up and running using Tiger, but last night I attempted to install Leopard. When the installation was complete, I tried to get it running. A screen asking for my password came up. I keyed that in and hit logon. Back came the screen asking for the password. To make long story short, I tried everything I could last night, and then called Apple Support this morning. Took quite a while, but I was back in business this afternoon. The technician who helped me sent me the email copied below describing the solution. Perhaps it will help someone else? Romelle
    Hello from Apple!
Charles at Apple Service & Support thought that you might find this article useful. We hope that it helps resolve your technical issue.
    Link: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n306965
Mac OS X 10.5, iMac (Late 2007): Stuck in a "loop" at the login window after upgrading to Leopard
    Issue or symptom
After installing Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard on a 20-inch or 24-inch iMac (Late 2007) computer, you may not be able to log in at the login window. Your login name and password are apparently accepted, but after a blue screen appears for a few seconds, the login window reappears instead of your desktop.
    Products affected
    20-inch or 24-inch iMac (Late 2007) computer with 2.0, 2.4, or 2.8 GHz processors
    Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
    Solution
    If Leopard is installed
Start up from the Leopard Install DVD and perform an Archive and Install installation (and select Preserve Users and Network Settings).
After the Archive and Install is complete, you should be able to successfully log in. Use Software Update to install any other updates.
Important: Install the iMac Software Update 1.3 for Leopard after the Archive and Install is complete.
If Leopard is not yet installed
If you have not yet installed Leopard on your 20-inch or 24-inch aluminum iMac computer with a 2.0, 2.4, or 2.8 GHz processor running Mac OS X 10.4.x, but previously installed the iMac Software Update 1.2, you should install the iMac Software Update 1.2.1 (Tiger) or later, before installing Leopard.
    Thank you,
    Apple

If Leopard came pre-installed and this is a new machne, then the disks that came in the box should let you archive install preserving users & network settings. The disks have a grey label, and if you get more than one use disk #1 for this procedure.
Hold down the "option" (also known as "alt" on the new keyboards) key when starting up with disk #1 in the optical drive. Select the install disk icon on the grey screen and click the arrow. Then when you get to the "select destination pane, click the options button after selecting your hard drive as the destination. In options A& I preserving should be checked by default, if not, select them. Click "ok" to dismiss the options pane, then run the installation.
If this does not work for you, call apple support. They want everything to work. Be patient, they are real busy these days.

  • After upgrade to leopard dvd studio pro 4.5 quits on build format.

After upgrade to leopard dvd studio pro 4.5 quits on build format.
    Any suggestions?

Let's try to clarify some things.
    1. There is no DVD SP 4.5. The latest UB version is 4.2.1. Which do you have?
    2. Did you do an upgrade install of Leopard, or a backup/clone of boot drive and then a clean install. Unless you do the latter, there are issues with the pro apps. And certainly an archive and install is not the way go.
    Let us knw.

  • Can't printscreen after upgrade to Leopard ????

Hi everyone ! I have a problem after upgraded to Leopard and installed Vista Ultimate on my Macbook-pro 17in-2.4. I can't use printscreen key command. I don't know what's problem. Does anybody have the same this problem ? Please help me or share some information with me ! Thanks for your concerning.

I have the same problem after upgrading from boot camp beta 1.3 to boot camp 2.0 with Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard on a Macbook Pro 15 inch. I used to press fn-f11 or fn-option-f11 to capture either the screen or the current window. This has now apparently stopped working.

  • Has anyone seen a DRASTIC change in speed after upgrading to 5.7?

Has anyone seen a DRASTIC change in speed after upgrading to 5.7? Just the simple task of copying photos now takes FOREVER. Importing iphoto for just two years of photos (my smallest iphoto library by far) took A WEEK. I did not have access to Lightroom for a week. I thought it was just going to be the iphoto import, but now my regular import is taking almost 1/2 an hour and only 22 photos into the import.

Oh no! I think I might be experiencing the same problem, oddly with almost exactly the same time to import from iPhoto, just shy of 7 days...
I also posted this problem to the form and am actually on the phone with Adobe support right now. I have an iPhoto library of ~15,000 photos and I didn't expect it to be very fast, but it's taking an average of at least 40 seconds per photo to import, and it has kept complete focus of LR so I can't even confirm that it isn't importing duplicates. By my calculations it should take over 166 hours to complete the import! Something has to be wrong here. I've been going for over 48 hours and am scared to stop the import if this really is normal performance.
Are normal import tasks also slow for you now? Can you share any more details? I can't test myself yet since the iPhoto import is still churning, but it could help troubleshooting with support. I'll let you know if they come back with anything, I'm on hold now.

  • I am not able to change the object after upgrade(SPAU Activity).

    HI All,
I am not able to change the object after upgrade(SPAU Activity). Please any one can tell what is the reason with below details.
You are not authorized to make changes
    Message no. 37202
    Diagnosis
You have no authorization for the authorization object 'S_DEVELOP', which would allow you to change the screen concerned.
There is also a second possibility:
You want to edit a modified SAP screen in a customer system after an upgrate (SAP transport). The screen remains locked for editing until the new SAP version and the customer version have been aligned (Transaction SPAU).
    System Response
Authorizations are assigned to users in profiles. Profiles are stored in the user master record.
    Procedure
    Comsult your system administrator.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Mahesh Devershetty

    Hi,
Does the user who would like to change the screen have the authorisation
for S_DEVELOP in his profile? Please run transaction /NSU53 after the
failed authorisation. You will get an information which authorisation
    is missing.
Additional please check if you have open entries in transaction SPAU for
    that object.
If you couldn´t solve the issue I need an user to analyse it in your
    development system.
That user needs all authorisation for development and has to be
    registrated as developer.
The system uses the authorization object S_DEVELOP for Workbench objects
can you please check your user master record whether it contains the
    required autorization or not.
Please also ensure that modification adjustment is turned on as per note:
