Changing server timezone on two RAC machines

Hi,
I need to change the servers timezone in a RAC environment. the change is from GMT-0 to GMT+2.
The question is, if this is going to work without shutting down oracle cluster or i need to shutdown the cluster before doing the change?
Oracle version is 10.2.0.4, OS is Solaris 10, (using ASM).
Thanks,
O.

Hello
You must restart CRS to reflect new tz changes.

is there any effect on database,.
As ....instance is in archive log mode, after changing time zone need to take cold backup and archivelogs generated after that only can be used for recovery,...any other.....things we need to take kare of......
    any suggestion will be helpful.

  • Change of timezone of production server

    Hi All,
Currently we have business objects XI 2 release 2 on Production Server.
    The timezone is in MDT.
We are going to install BOXI3.1 with SP2 on the same production server and use the import wizard to migrate the reports and the schedule instances.
After the migration, we are going to change the timezone of the Production Server to GMT.
Question: Assume the reports are scheduled at 12:00AM MDT previously.
After we change the timezone of the server, will business objects change the schedule time automatically to 06:00GMT?
I did the test in development server, it seems no issue, the business objects schedule previous show as 12:00AM, now showing 06:00GMT.
but i need to confirm with the experts here..
    Thank you!

    Hi,
if you tested it and it worked it should be fine.
If you need an official Statement i would recommend you open a OSS Message with SAP Support.
    Regards

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
    - Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

  • "file server is running on your machine" message

OK, this seems very weird & I can't figure out if the issue is in my new (simultaneous dual band) Airport Extreme or the Mac (iMac G5) I use to administer it.
When I try to connect to a USB drive connected to the Extreme from my iMac, & the iMac is connected to the Extreme by ethernet, I see the Extreme in the sidebar of Finder, but when I click on it to access the drive, I get a "connection failed" bar across the top of the Finer window. If I click on the "Connect" button at the end of that bar, I get the following message:
"This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally."
The volumes (the drive is partitioned into two volumes) are not showing up as local ones (in the "Devices" section of the sidebar), so I can't access them "locally."
BUT, if I turn on Airport on the iMac, I get the normal "Connected as ..." bar & the volumes appear as expected in the Finder.
The really weird part is if do not turn on Airport & I use the "Connect to server..." Go menu option & enter "afp://Extreme's_name.local" it connects & either or both volumes mount on the desktop as expected. ("Extreme's_name" is the actual name I have given the device.)
Weirder still, if I have one of these volumed opened in the Finder & click on the Extreme in the sidebar again, I still see the "Connection Failed" bar across the top +yet the volumes are there in the Finder window+, can be opened, & otherwise behave normally.
This behavior persists until I click the eject button in the sidebar, at which point the "Connection Failed" bar reappears & the volumes are no longer listed or accessible. Waaaaa?
FWIW, my MacBook has none of these symptoms. Whether connected by ethernet cable or wirelessly, clicking on the Extreme in the sidebar results in the expected "Connected as ..." behavior.
I tried researching the "running on your machine" message on the web & found some references the problem in connection with Windows (smb) sharing. Sure enough, looking in my keychain access file, I saw several passwords for the Extreme with the "where" info as smb://Extreme's_name. However, deleting these (& even all Extreme-related entries) had no effect.
I'm stumped. Any help or even just a clue would be appreciated greatly.

I seem to have eliminated the 'connection failed' problem & its accompanying 'file server is running on your machine' message as follows:
My Extreme was set up for its DHCP server to assign local IP addresses in the 192.168.2.100 to 192.168.2.199 range. This matched how my old SMC router had been set up for years. The SMC's DHCP server was set up to always assign 192.168.2.100 to my iMac's Ethernet MAC address. I did this because my iMac was set up as a webDAV server to publish an iCal calendar on my local network, using the address "webcal://192.168.2.100/ical/MyCalendar.ics." This worked fine with both the SMC & the Extreme.
I'm not sure why I decided to try it, but I changed the Extreme's DHCP server to assign local IP addresses in the 10.0.2.100 to 10.0.2.200 range. Obviously, this invalidated the address for the published calendar, but the iMac now connects to the Extreme's drive without any problems. (For those who care, changing the calendar's published address to "webcal://MyMac.local/ical/MyCalendar.ics." fixed that issue -- IOW, substitute the computer name for its local IP address. I probably should have done that to begin with, but hindsight is always 20/20, right?)
So my problem is solved, but I still would like to know why this worked. AFAIK, either IP range is equally valid for private networks. Any comments would be appreciated.

  • Home Office Server setup question: re Time Machine

I recently purchased a Mac Mini with OS X Server (10.6) for my home office. I also have an AEB.
I'm pondering two options for backing up via Time Machine
10.6 Server Managed Time Machine vs. AEB AirDisks
Option 1: Use AEB AirDisks and have all machines - including the server - backup to the time machine.
Option 2: Use Snow Leopard as the backup server. Connect the external drives to the Server and manage all backups there.
I'm thinking Option 2 because it coordinates with the Managed Workgroup and isn't using AirDisk access. But I'm not sure why I need to send all of the data through the server and impact its overall performance. Either way the traffic goes through the AEB so that's a moot point. And then again maybe the backup isn't a big deal for the server either.
    Looking for recommendations.
FYI, my backup is a simple RAID 1 config.

I don;t believe TM will give you a complete backup of your server, as there are some files that change frequently, and some items that TM does not copy.
If you're looking for an automated solution, consider SuperDuper, CCC, or even an online service like Carbonite. There are other backup solutions as well if you google around but they may be overkill (and expensive) for your needs.

  • How to change the timezone in photo metadata?

After returning from a recent trip out west, I forgot to change my camera's timezone to the local time.  As a result, hundreds of photos from a long weekend trip were recorded with the wrong timezone.  I imported them to Lightroom 5 and discovered the problem.  Of course, I used the Edit Capture Time feature as described in the online help: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/metadata-basics-actions.html#change_the_photo_captu re_time
But that changes the time of each photo's metadata, rather than the timezone.  There's a subtle difference; the better solution would be to change the timezone so that all future interpretations and exported times would be correct.  For example, here's the original metadata from a RAW image:
    DateTimeOriginal                : 2014:08:23 09:13:45
    Timezone                        : -07:00
and here's what appears on an exported JPG file, after the capture time was edited:
    DateTimeOriginal                : 2014:08:23 11:13:45
    TimeCreated                     : 11:13:45
    DigitalCreationTime             : 09:13:45
    DateTimeCreated                 : 2014:08:23 11:13:45
    DigitalCreationDateTime         : 2014:08:23 09:13:45
[These metadata reports were produced by exiftool.]  Notice how the RAW image includes Timezone (though sadly the JPG export does not).  More to the point, look at the variety of timestamps produced for the JPG file, none of which mention the timezone and two of which have the wrong time (9:13am instead of 11:13am).  Without the timezone information the latter is hard to interpret and looks inconsistent.  Is this a bug in LR5?  or is it a missing feature (to not record the timezone on export)?

There's not a simple explanation of the behavior you're observing.  It's not a bug -- LR is doing a reasonable job of following imperfect industry standards.
The photo/camera industry in general does not make it easy to deal with time zones. LR's general approach is to preserve whatever time zones are present in the metadata but otherwise ignore them -- it doesn't change them, and it doesn't display them. As you discovered, the Edit Capture Time command does not let you change time zone, but it does preserve whatever time zones are present in the metadata  (but see below for one exception).   LR's handling of time zones conforms with Metadata Working Group's Guidelines For Handling Image Metadata 2.0, an industry standard supported by Adobe, Apple, Canon, Microsoft, Nokia, and Sony.
The EXIF metadata inserted by cameras does not provide an official field to record time zone (folklore among metadata geeks is that one of the technical leaders of the spec, when challenged about that, asked why anyone would want time zones).  Some cameras insert the non-industry-standard EXIF field TimeZoneOffset.  I don't know the entire history of this field, but it's not defined in the EXIF 2.2 or 2.3 specs, nor mentioned in the Metadata Working Group's Guidelines For Handling Image Metadata 2.0.  The field is not well-defined -- it only allows offsets of whole hours, whereas over a billion people live in a time zone whose offset is +5:30 (India).
LR preserves EXIF:TimeZoneOffset in your original photo, but it otherwise ignores the field, and it doesn't get copied to exported photos.  This is not unreasonable, given that the field is non-standard.
The XMP metadata fields, typically inserted by software applications, do support time zones, but including a time zone is optional.  LR preserves XMP time zones that are present when the image is imported, even if you change the date/time with Edit Capture Time.  Your original photo did not contain any XMP fields (cameras typically don't insert XMP), so there were no time zones there for LR to preserve.
The Digital Creation date/time fields you observed are intended to record when an image was digitized.  With digital cameras, that's generally the same as capture time, but with scanned images, the date/time of digitization (scanning) is different from the date/time the image was originally captured.  LR's handling of these two different date/times isn't great, but it's adequate for most users.  LR will insert the digitization date/time when an image is first imported (if it doesn't already exist), but Edit Capture Time changes just the capture time, not the digitization date/time.  (A few years ago Adobe changed Edit Capture Time in a point release to also change digitization date/time, on the theory that LR is designed for images from digital cameras, and the two date/times should always be the same; but a number of users who also used LR to manage scanned images complained loudly that LR was overwriting precious metadata, and Adobe backed out that change in the next release.)
So Edit Capture Time will leave photos taken by digital cameras with an incorrect digitization date/time.  But very few users care about that -- it's only users with scanned images who care about the difference, and at least LR will avoid overwriting digitization date/time.
A suggestion for using Exiftool to examine image metadata: Use the "-a -G" options, which causes Exiftool to show which section of the metadata the fields are coming from.   Given the complexity of the legacy metadata industry standards, this will help you better understand what your camera and software tools are doing.  For example:
    [EXIF]          Modify Date                     : 2014:08:31 10:01:45
    [EXIF]          Date/Time Original              : 2014:08:13 11:53:44
    [EXIF]          Create Date                     : 2014:08:13 08:53:44
    [IPTC]          Date Created                    : 2014:08:13
[IPTC]          Digital Creation Date           : 2014:08:13
    [XMP]           Modify Date                     : 2014:08:31 10:01:45-07:00
    [XMP]           Create Date                     : 2014:08:13 08:53:44
    [XMP]           Metadata Date                   : 2014:08:31 10:01:45-07:00
    [XMP]           Date Created                    : 2014:08:13 11:53:44
    [Composite]     Date/Time Created               : 2014:08:13 11:53:44
    [Composite]     Digital Creation Date/Time      : 2014:08:13 08:53:44

  • Report Scheduling. How to syncronize the GMT and the local server timezones

Hi everybody, I need to schedule reports using the Schedule tab on BIP, but I didn't still understand how the syncronization between my server's timezone and the GMT timezone works.....
I noticed that when I open the Report Schedules initial page, this is refreshed using the GMT timezone as follows:
Page Refreshed   Monday, July 26, 2010 7:53 AM GMT
Actually I'm located in Athens (GMT+3)
I noticed that if I want to Run once a report, ONLY the GMT is took in consideration.
For example, I want to run a report at 11.30 (Athens timeone) where the time conditions are the following:
BIP time (GMT timezone): 08.00 AM GMT
server timezone: 11.00 AM (Athens time)
So, if I want to run a report at 11.30 AM (Athens time), I have to write in BIP (Run once) 08.30 AM, instead of 11.30, otherwise if I put 11.30, the report runs 3 hours and 30 minutes later instead of only 30 minutes !!! This is very frustrating....because it means that everytime I need to remember that there is a difference of 3 hours and if I want effectively....
I also set the Report Formatting Time Zone = GMT+03:00 to fill the gap between the GMT's timezone and Athens's timezone but it didn't work....
I found that the variable <xsl:param name="_XDOTIMEZONE">GMT</xsl:param> is set into the tmpl.xsl; I tried to change it (GMT+3 or GMT+03:00), I stop and restart the BIP server....but nothing...the BIP timezone is always GMT (as showed by th Page Refreshed date and time).
At the end my question is this: is there a way to modify the internal BIP timezone in order to fill the gap between this and the server timezone ?
In other words, I'd like to see the page refreshed with the server timezone (Athens timezone) and not the GMT timezone, in order to schedule reports thinking directly my local server timezone (and not think always to calculate how many hours is the difference).
This, I think is a common issue for everybody, but....I didn't find nothing in the forum....
If somebody found a workaround, every help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Alex

    Good Morning Vetsrini,
I know that the "Report Formatting Time Zone" is used to set the timezone properly INSIDE the report...but my attention now is concentrated on the Scheduling...
As I mentioned before I'd like to find a way to syncronize the BIP timezone (based on GMT) and my local server timezone (Athens, GMT+2), and this I think it's possiblie only if I can modify the BIP timezone (GMT): instead to have GMT, I'd like to have GMT+2 in order to have the same time in both of systems.
I already tried to change the variable <xsl:param name="_XDOTIMEZONE">GMT</xsl:param> into the tmpl.xsl, but it didn't work....
I don't understand how all the others millions of BIP users who don't live in UK can use the scheduler keeping in mind always the gap between their local time and the GMT time set in BIP......
Do you have another hint or workaround ?
    Thanks for your help

  • Clustering over two separate machines(CPU)

Hi all Oracle Experts out there,
I'm currently working on my a project which requires me to Cluster two weblogic servers on two separate CPU.
When a client accesses an application on one weblogic server and it goes down, the session will be passed to the other weblogic server which will back it up.
Does anyone know how should i go about doing it?
I've been playing around with Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.1.0 to try to cluster but have been unsuccessful.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I am trying to do the same thing; that is: setting up a cluster with two machines running each one an instance of WL 10.3.
I wrote a simple Shopping Cart application using servlet and EJB.
I have created a new domain with one cluster, two managed server, one administration server and two machines.
I have then packed the domain and unpacked it in the other machine,
I have configured the replication groups in the first server like this:
    primary replication group: myReplicationGroup1
    secondary replication group: myReplicationGroup2
And in the second server instead:
    primary replication group: myReplicationGroup2
    secondary replication group: myReplicationGroup1
I use Apache web server and I have configured it to use the mod_wl_22.so plugin.
I have started the administration server and the two managed servers and deployed my shopping cart application in all the servers in the cluster.
Everything seems to work fine but... when I close (ctrl+C) the managed server running my current shopping cart instance, Apache send the following requests to the remaining server and I get:
    "Error 500--Internal Server Error
javax.ejb.EJBException: Could not establish a connection with 3535692784398933269S:192.168.1.10:[7001,7001,-1,-1,-1,-1,-1]:clusteredDomain:server1, java.rmi.ConnectException: Destination unreachable; nested exception is:
(the 192.168.1.10 ip address is the one of the closed server)
So I think that the Http session state is not replicated... and I don't know why...
Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: If I deploy only the Web part of my application (the shopping cart servlet) (modified to works without the ejb) it works correctly,
the session replication works pretty good. But when I include my servlet in an ear file with the ejb... It doesn't work...
I have specified the persistent-store-type as replicated in the weblogic.xml descriptor in the servlet war file...
Do I have to set that attribute also in the weblogic-application.xml in the ear archive?
    Thanks again

  • How to connect the two virtual machine .

I installed VM workstation and created two virtual machine .Please suggest me how to connect them internally each other though vm network editor.I want create RAC Setup for practice.

NAT is the default adapter type in VirtualBox, which will work in almost any configuration and networking environment. Using the NAT adapter, the host system will establish connections on behalf of the guest OS. NAT requires that the corresponding VM guest adapter uses DHCP and cannot be used to provide any services unless you configure port forwarding (>1024) at the VirtualBox VM NAT adapter.
Bridged networking is the most transparent adapter type, but requires a physical network adapter on the host OS, which is limited depending on the host system and hardware, e.g. wireless. It also requires that the user understands network and routing restrictions of the host system in case of using the interface to communicate between the host and VM. A combination of host-only and NAT may sometimes be necessary to allow the VM to connect to the internet and allow the host to communicate with the VM guest OS.
Btw, the host-only adapter IP actually works on behalf of the host OS and can be used to allow the VM to access the host system. So if Internet is not required, the NAT or bridged adapter are not required. I'm not sure if many people realize that, since it's not really mentioned in the documentation. So if you use the host-only adapter, simply use the host-only IP instead of the host system real IP to connect the VM to the host OS.
I also switched to VirtualBox a couple of years ago, mainly because it provides more VM hardware options, is free and because of the ability to manage multiple virtual machines and group them together. I have about 70 virtual machines for testing and evaluating configured on my home computer. I also like the option in VirtualBox to clone a VM based on a Snapshot.
VMware provides a Virtual Network Editor in VMware Workstation (KB 1018697), which allows to customize any of the existing virtual network adapter or add new ones. The available technologies under any Type 2 hypervisor are very similar between different products:

    I couldn't find references to "machine1" in your config.xml.
The error message clearly says "machine1" not found. It appears somehow the
changes were not written to the config.xml . you might want to double-check that.
When you create a new server, you should have "machine1" entries as follows
              (replace cls1 with machine1)
              <Server AdministrationPort="0" Cluster="MyCluster"
              ListenAddress="172.17.12.209" ListenPort="7001"
              LogRemoteExceptionsEnabled="true"
              Name="cls1" PreferredSecondaryGroup="G2" ReplicationGroup="G1" StdoutSeverityLevel="64">
              <SSL Name="cls1"/>
              <ServerDebug Name="cls1"/>
              <Log FileName="cls1.log" Name="cls1"/>
              <WebServer DefaultWebApp="DefaultWebApp_cls1" Name="cls1"/>
              <KernelDebug Name="cls1"/>
              </Server>

  • Documentation for changing Server name

    Hi,
I'm looking for documentation for changing server name. Ex. from prod1.domainname.com to prod2.domainname.com. We only change the server name, not the server itself.
Does someone know where I can find it?
    Thanks
    André

On the server side you need to edit two files:
    1. ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora
depending on the protocols you are accepting connections on, you need to change the value for HOST = <new server name goes here>
    2. ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init<SID>.ora
You probably haven't specified this parameter, but if you did specify a value for LOCAL_LISTENER, then change it accordingly.
On the client and server side you need to edit one file
    1. ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
Find the service names that refer to the databases that live on the server whose name was changed. If TCP is the protocol being used to connect to these databases, then change the HOST = <new server name goes here> accordingly.

Don't know. Perhaps these can help. I scanned the second link but didn't see much about Ending Deadlocks. I'd say the Fourth link probably has better information than the first three links. But maybe read them all just in case the Fourth is missing something

  • My WSUS Server is only showing 2 machines

    Hi,
I recently setup a WSUS server.
Its a virtual machine running with 4GB RAM
    Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, SP1
For some reason, everytime I check the WSUS console, it will only display 2 machines
Sometimes it will display PC-04 and PC-20, or then randomly will then display PC-07 and PC-15.
I have checked the reg of various PCs and they all appear to be connected to the WSUS server.
I ran the solarwinds utility and it all appears to be working although and I have tested the cab file within a web page and it appears to ask for the cab file to be downloaded.
I am stumped as to why it would do this, but it seems to be updating and communicating.
Also, I have setup GPOs and configured them with the how tos online
    Any ideas?

I can understand this being an issue of the cloned lab pcs, but it is also not picking up any staff PCs which are HPs which have been purchased with windows 7 already on them and have not being imaged or cloned in any way yet when I check regedit it seems
that they are connected to the WSUS server but are not being displayed in the WSUS console on the server.
Also it doesnt seem to pick up any windows 8 machines either?
    Doesnt that seem strange?
No. Nothing that gets posted in this forum seems strange.
Almost without fail everything that you might think is "strange" ultimately gets traced back to some simple failure to follow instructions or set configuration options correctly.
So... checking the registry doesn't really tell us anything useful. Mostly because you didn't share any details of what you actually did check, so I can't even assume that you checked the right things.
But more notably, what's really relevant here is what the systems are DOING. They can be configured perfectly to talk to some WSUS server, but if the network, or a firewall, or a proxy server, or a misconfiguration in the WSUS server, prevents that from
happening .. those registry settings are meaningless.
But I am intrigued with why you chose to check the registry for the configuration, as opposed to other methodologies.
So, first things first. Fix the clones and see if those machines report properly.
Then, for problem number two, which could not have even been recognized as a problem having been masked by the more obvious problem number one .... please do the following on one of your staff HP PCs.
    Record the system time.
    Reboot the system.
Run this command from a command prompt: wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow.
