Clustering over two separate machines(CPU)

Hi all Oracle Experts out there,
I'm currently working on my a project which requires me to Cluster two weblogic servers on two separate CPU.
When a client accesses an application on one weblogic server and it goes down, the session will be passed to the other weblogic server which will back it up.
Does anyone know how should i go about doing it?
I've been playing around with Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.1.0 to try to cluster but have been unsuccessful.
Thanks
Gavin

Hello,
I am trying to do the same thing; that is: setting up a cluster with two machines running each one an instance of WL 10.3.
I wrote a simple Shopping Cart application using servlet and EJB.
I have created a new domain with one cluster, two managed server, one administration server and two machines.
I have then packed the domain and unpacked it in the other machine,
I have configured the replication groups in the first server like this:
primary replication group: myReplicationGroup1
secondary replication group: myReplicationGroup2
And in the second server instead:
primary replication group: myReplicationGroup2
secondary replication group: myReplicationGroup1
I use Apache web server and I have configured it to use the mod_wl_22.so plugin.
I have started the administration server and the two managed servers and deployed my shopping cart application in all the servers in the cluster.
Everything seems to work fine but... when I close (ctrl+C) the managed server running my current shopping cart instance, Apache send the following requests to the remaining server and I get:
"Error 500--Internal Server Error
javax.ejb.EJBException: Could not establish a connection with 3535692784398933269S:192.168.1.10:[7001,7001,-1,-1,-1,-1,-1]:clusteredDomain:server1, java.rmi.ConnectException: Destination unreachable; nested exception is:
(the 192.168.1.10 ip address is the one of the closed server)
So I think that the Http session state is not replicated... and I don't know why...
Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: If I deploy only the Web part of my application (the shopping cart servlet) (modified to works without the ejb) it works correctly,
the session replication works pretty good. But when I include my servlet in an ear file with the ejb... It doesn't work...
I have specified the persistent-store-type as replicated in the weblogic.xml descriptor in the servlet war file...
Do I have to set that attribute also in the weblogic-application.xml in the ear archive?
Thanks again

  • How can I implement two TCP/IP servers (on two separate machines) and one TCP/IP client (on third machine)

I have an application where I need to send data via TCP/IP from two separate machines to a third machine. The machines are on a local area network connected through a network switch. The data are generated independently through data acquisition by the two independent machines before are sent to the client on third machine. Each machine has one network card. Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you have three separate machines, you don't need to use separate ports.  They will have three IP addresses.
Remember this rule: TCP connections are EXACTLY like telephone connections.
Have your client open two connections: same port on two different IP addresses.
    Each client listens for connections.
After connections are established, you get to decide the protocol:  maybe the client should explicitly ask for data, maybe the servers just dump it without being asked. It's up to you.

Yes as long as they are both used by the license holder.  Basically you should be the only individual using the software on either computer.

  • Load balancing over two separate outside routers and two separate WAN Links

    Hi everybody,
I have one 2851 setup with two separate ISP links and have it configured for failover with BGP.  It works great but doesn't load balance.
Well now I have to new routers (3925's) to replace the single 2851 and I want to configure them to load balance over separate WAN links.
Can someone help figure out the best approach to make this happen?  I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you,

The "best approach", IMO, would be to use PfR (if your routers support it).

  • Coherence clustering between two separate wka clusters

    Hi,
I am running Coherence 3.6 in my environment.Off lately I am seeing a weird issue with respect to two separate wka clusters. when I mean separate wka cluster, these are two clusters configured with a distinct wka list.
I try to connect with Coherence cmd line tool to a cluster named "cluster-ABC" which has a wka IP- 10.30.xx.xxx on "host x". Then I come out of this cluster, and connect from the same command prompt window to another host -"host y" which has a same named cluster-"cluster-ABC" but a different wka IP-10.30.yy.yyy. Between the two clusters, the only common factor is the cluster name. Other things such as wka list etc are different.
After some time, I see that nodes from "host y" start joining "host x". this seems to happen only when i connect to two different clusters, from my command line utility. The clusters here are formed using wka in each case. there is no multicast enabled on our setups. This used to never happen with coherence 3.5, where i did similar kind of operations on the cluster.
Is there some kind of reference being held by the utility even after it is disconnected from the second cluster?
    Thanks,
    Chandini

We tried out your suggestion on using unique cluster names. I had 2 hosts each running a cluster with a unique cluster name; cluster-A and cluster-B. I had another node on a third host connect to cluster-A using port 8092 and then tried connecting to the cluster-B after changing the cluster name appropriately. But, this time the node was rejected by cluster-A saying that the configurations are different.
On changing the port from 8092 to 8090 and connecting to cluster-B worked just fine. I guess, just having unique cluster names isn't helping. Would this be fixed by the ticket that's been raised?
Is there anything else we could do in the interim to get around the issue? Using different ports might not be a very helpful solution as we've noticed that 3.6 onwards, we need to open up the ports in the firewall of the host where the nodes are running. This wouldn't be too feasible for us.

  • Configuring external Seagate drive so that I can use Time Machine on two separate machines

I am using both an iMac and a Laptop (Macbook Pro) and wish to use Time Machine to back up both machines. However, in my ignorance it seems not to recognise which machine it backs up and thus overwrites itself from the 'other' machine. Can I do this please? And if so how is it best done?

It should not overwrite the other backup, so something isn't quite right.
You should just turn on Time Machine and tell it to use that disk.
    How is the drive connected?

  • CC on two separate machines

I have CC account which I use on my machine in work, but I will be starting to work at home occasionally. Using the same CC account I downloaded Photoshop etc onto my home machine but now they are now saying that my trial has expired. I was under the impression that the licence allowed installation on 2 machines, has this changed recently? Or maybe there's a setting in my account somewhere that I need to change to allow this? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have an imac at home and may be getting a macbook for work. Can i use my mobile me account to chat between the two macs or would i need a mobile me account per mac??

    Hi,
    No.
You need two names that can login into AIM.
In iChat you can use the Get an iChat Account which shows after you use the Plus Button in Accounts.
This will give you a free @mac.com Name
    AIM Names are also free.

  • Can I transfer Time Machine data from two separate hard drives into one new one?

I'm using a MacBook Pro as my primary computer.  My 500 gig Time Capsule filled up a year or so ago, so I stopped using it with Time Machine for awhile so I could keep the data from those old back-ups.  There were a number of things I deleted from my computer's very limited hard drive after they were backed up to the Time Capsule.  I got a 1T external USB drive last year to use as my "filing Cabinet" to store files I didn't necessarily need all the time or that were filling up my small laptop hard drive--including my iTunes library--all organized in a way that made it relatively easy for me to find what I needed, even if I didn't remember exactly when I'd filed it or what I'd called it.  I got another 1 terabyte external (portable) drive last July and dedicated it to TimeMachine backups and labeled it "TimeMachine".
Over the last couple of weeks, my friend has been helping me upgrade to Yosemite and clean up my laptop hard drive.  Last week he cloned my laptop hard drive to a new 1T hard drive and I exchanged it for my old drive in my computer today. All good.
Here's the issue.  We replaced my Time Capsule hard drive with a 1 terabyte drive with the idea of transferring the data from the old Time Capsule (500G) drive and the newer USB 1T "TimeMachine" compact drive to the new 1T Time Capsule drive and beginning using the latter for my Time Machine backups going forward.  Originally he thought we could copy everything from each of my external drives (the old 500gig drive from my Time Capsule, the USB "TimeMachine" drive I've been using since July, and the "file cabinet" files) to my computer in their own folders and then start regular TimeMachine backups to the new Time Capsule drive, thus preserving all my old data and making regular backups going forward.  The "file cabinet" data was no problem at all, but when I tried to copy my USB "TimeMachine" data to my computer, I was unable to.  My friend found instructions for transferring old TimeMachine data to a new TimeCapsule, but I don't know if I can transfer the data from two separate disks to the new TimeCapsule drive. I'm afraid that one set of data will supersede the other and either my newer backups or my old ones will be lost if I try to transfer both.
Are my fears justified or is there a way to insure that no such problem will occur?  Of course, my data will still be on those two older drives, but that won't do me a lot of good if I can't access it when I need to. Also, the 1T drive now belongs to my friend; he used a brand new drive he'd bought for himself for my new internal hard drive and plans to take my 1T "TimeCapsule" drive in exchange, once the data has been transferred, so he will, of course, erase that drive.

Should we be able to bring up the old (500G) Time Capsule Drive to rename it using a SATA to FireWire harness and then copy the whole thing to the new Time Capsule drive?
You can copy a whole sparsebundle from one drive to another. That is not a problem. Whether you can access the sparsebundle is something you should test before you even start though.
If it's on the Desktop and I don't tell Time Machine to exclude it from backups, will it just automatically back it up?
All drives you plug into the Mac are excluded by default.. you must include them. So no problems there.. but I hope I am understanding the question.
Will both volumes or directories (which is the right term?) show up when I open Time Machine?
No, Time Machine will only open what it is told to open... or its backup default location.
You can force Time Machine to open alternative/old/no longer used backups by (now I have a problem as things have changed somewhat in Yosemite and I consider it alpha release software at this point in time). The old method was to right click on the TM icon and select a different TM backup. easy. Yosemite seems to have made easy stuff harder.
Here it is on my current computer.. clearly not Yosemite.. Right click on the TM icon in the dock.. select Browse Other Time Machine Disks.. And supply the info of where that is located. Easy. If you cannot figure it out one of the other posters here (with more patience than me for Yosemite) will help you.
Or will we have to partition the new drive somehow--is that even possible?
I am getting more lost as I go down the list.. but the TC disk cannot be partitioned.
If you have included all those USB drives in the new backup on a Time a Time Capsule.. you have made life rather hard because now your files are stored another layer deeper than they were.
So to open a file from a disk you need to open the sparsebundle.. then dig down to the drive in question and then dig down to the backup.. and all of this means Time Machine has to work perfectly which is Yosemite is a very big ask.
I thought you wanted to just backup your old drives to central location.. which means copying the files to a separate folder on the Time Capsule.
One correction I need to make to my post, which will make my strategy make a bit more sense: my new Time Capsule drive is 4T
It makes it much harder.. and I have to pose a real question of long term .. if you have put a 4TB drive in a Gen1 TC.. did you also replace its power supply because I can assure you the drive might be ok but the TC itself will not last forever.. and what happens when it dies. The Gen1 power supply is already well beyond its normal life span and the vast majority are dead. When the backup device is unreliable and the backups on it are made that much harder to get access to.. is this a great plan??
If you are going to consolidate all your old files on one disk.. a task I find understandable. I have done much the same albeit the usefulness of files made on emac running OS9 may be questioned. A disk lying in the bottom of a draw is a more appropriate place for them.
You want those files as easily accessible as possible (at the point of recovery) and not buried inside a sparsebundle.. particularly not a sparsebundle from the old TC disk buried inside a new sparsebundle.. keep files as accessible as possible as you can run searches.. and that is best done on a USB 3 (or faster ie thunderbolt) drive plugged into a new(ish) computer.. not network. And since the files are not being accessed on a daily/weekly or even monthly or yearly basis.. keeping them in actively running TC network storage.. I would say is a waste of space. That is only my opinion of course.. you might consider it highly important that files you will never look at are available any time of day or night when the urge comes to track down that elusive pimpernel email you sent 10 years ago... but I find it hard to justify. What the case.. the problem with TM and things like Mail is you cannot search it.. you must restore the whole library/files/program even before you can access it.. that makes file recovery out of a sparsebundle double step process.
    So.. summary.
If you want to store files on the 4TB drive in the TC.. that is not a great strategy but it can work.. simply create a folder named.. OldFilesEMac for instance.. and do a simple copy and paste of all the file to that location. Do not use TM.. Since you have already used TM.. and from what I am reading you have already done the backup with the external drives included.. then you are going to end up needing to erase the TC and start over.. which you may not be prepared to do.. which is fair enough. (I am coming across as overbearing school master.. apologies).
TM is to backup your main OS and current files.. not files from 10-20years ago.

  • I want to use two separate Lion Time Machine backups and use them to create two separate profiles on one new computer

This is something I need to do temporarily but I must do it.
I have an iMac 27 (end of year 2009) I5.  It has 1 TB internal and I want to replace it with a 2 TB internal.
I have time machine backups on an external hard drive that has been connected via Firewire.
I have another iMac (my son's)Imac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo that has it's own separate Time machine backup to it's own separate firewire connected external drive.  Both machines are completely up to date with the latest version of Lion and all other necessary software updates.
When the internal hardrive is replaced - I want to use my latest time machine backup to create one profile on the imac and then use my son's latest time machine back up for a second profile.  The end goal being to have everything from my current set up ie: apps, documents, itunes, etc existing in one profile and everything in my son's current set up existing in the other profile.   We can both be administrators for the time being as well.  I should note even though we both have some of the same apps, we both also have other apps that the other does not.
My profile will be using about 900 gigs of total space.
My son's profile will be using about 250 gigs of total space.
This is temporary until the new iMac is released.  Then I will want to transfer my profile to that leaving my son's intact on the iMac 27 I5.
I realize that during the temporary period that Time Machine will be making backups of this entire two profile setup, which I am now understanding as I write this will create a new issue for me when I want to transfer only my profile to the new computer as well.  But one bridge to cross at a time, I guess.
I need to do this because we must bring his current computer to my father - as his iMac G5 is inoperable.  We have been doing this round robin hand me down in our family since IMac DV special edition :-)
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.  And any other suggestions as well.
    Thanks very much.

Hey Shootist000,  Thanks for the replies.  First off, I am actually okay if we both have each other applications so I am not concerned about that. It is still unclear from what you have said as to whether I can in fact, use these two separte time machine backup to create two separate profiles on the new hard drive.  If that in fact can be done, then - will it create two copies of the apps we both have in the ROOT of the drive as well as placing all the ones we each have separately?
And reading your second reply, makes me think that maybe the partition is the way to go to begin with and then down the road - after I am in the new iMac, I could reformat the iMac 27 with only one partion and restore my son's latest back prior to the reformat thus giving him full access to the 2 TB of the drive.
If this is still making sense, does this mean :
    replace the 1TB with a 2TB - but have it partitione - 1.5 TB & 500 GB.
Install(Restore using Time Machine) my latest back up prior to the  1.5 partition
Install (Restore using Time Machine) my son's latest back up prior to the 500 gig partition
Lastly, in order for us both to be using the partioned computer - I am assuming Switch user can no longer be used - so would we need to restart and select our respective partions in order to use the computer?   And if so, how would we each be able to be using time machine to back up - two separte external hard drives - with each one dedicated to only one partition? Or ?
    Thanks so much.
Ironically, I am only trying to do this so that I don't need to manually install all his apps, setting, games, blah blah for this temporary period.  :-)

  • Is it possible to use Time Machine with an external hard drive for two separate computers?

I'm looking to purchase an external hard drive to use as with time machine as a backup for two separate computers.  I'm not sure if I should buy 2 EHDs and dedicate one to each computer, or if Time Machine has the capacity to back up both computers separately.  Anyone have any experience with this?

You can make two partitions on a single drive and dedicate one to each computer.

  • Is it possible for a process to participate in two separate clusters

Is it possible for a process to participate in two separate clusters? For example if our application would like to get market data in one cluster that has a separate multicast address, and post order in another.

The easiest way for a client to access multiple clusters is via Coherence*Extend:
         http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH33UG/Configuring+and+Using+Coherence*Extend
The client would not be a member of the cluster, instead it would connect to the cluster via a proxy node that is in the cluster. Using <remote-cache-scheme>, you can configure a cache to point to one proxy (in cluster A) and have another cache point to another proxy (in cluster B.)

  • Aperture library sync over two machines?

Is there a way to sync aperture libraries over two machines on a LAN?
I am going to try aperture but I am not sure which machine to install it on.
I have a mac pro and a mac mini which I run side by side. I use my mac mini for email, and iphoto, iPad syncing and music and my mac pro as my main work machine for music production.
Ideally I would like to install it on the mac pro where I get the extra power and screen real estate but then I do not want to miss out on not having photos on the iPad. As the iPad syncs with my mac mini, I am torn between the two.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this matter?
    It woudl be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Felix

And that works fine unless you need both machines to have the library at the same time.
And it wasn't my point it was the OP's
    From the first post:
I have a mac pro and a mac mini which I run side by side. I use my mac mini for email, and iphoto, iPad syncing and music and my mac pro as my main work machine for music production.
So for the orignal specs both machines required a copy of the library.
Let's say in the middle of working on the Aperture library on the MacPro he needs to email an image to someone. Aperture will have to be shutdown, the disk unmounted and carried over to/cabled into the Mini. Just to send an email. Seems a lot easier to just have a copy of the library on the mini. The library on the Mini could even be a stripped down copy, no masters just the previews this way it makes it impossible to make changes on the Mini to images if that is a concern.
