Changing your organization name

Is it feasable, or even advisable, to change your organization name in DS 5.2? We've been testing with a server and are ready to go production. It would be nice if there were a way to change the org name instead of rebuilding the machine from scratch and importing the data again. If not, no big deal. Just thought I'd ask first.

And the answer is... (thanks to Eli Rios)
Want to change top level domain name from o=orgname.com to o=orgname
Changing the suffix does not require a rebuild. All it involves is creating a new suffix under the data tree, exporting your old suffix to ldif, changing all occurances of o=orgname.com to o=orgname, then reimporting the ldif into the new tree. There is nothing published on how to do this, so included the steps in more detail below:
1. Login to admin console & open the directory server instance console.
2. Go to Configuration tab, Right click on Data object and choose new suffix.
3. Enter o=orgname and click ok.
4. Go to the cmd line, under the <dsRoot>/slapd-<instance> directory.
5. Run the following cmd:
./db2ldif -U -n <suffix> -a `pwd`/orgname.export
where <suffix> is the database name of the orgname.org suffix (it should be "userRoot" though).
6. Edit orgname.export file and replace all instances of orgname.com with orgname Then save.
***NOTE*** Be careful when replacing these occurances. Some ACIs may refer to host names in your domain as hostname.orgname.com and you don't want to replace the orgname.com with orgname for these matches. Otherwise your host name will be missing the last part of it's domain name.
7. Go back to the console, under configuration tab, under data object.
8. Right click on o=orgname entry and choose Initialize.
9. Enter path to modified orgname.export file and click on ok.
That should get all entries into the new database. Change whatever applications were using old suffix to new suffix to ensure that all is fine. Once you've determined that all is fine you can go back to the console and delete the old o=orgname.com suffix (or keep it as backup, whatever).

  • How to change your 'computer name' ?

I have just 'migrated' ( using the software install - by a firewire cable ) from my old PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro - Everything is fine except now my MacBook Pro is called PowerBook G4 15" on the start-up screen and system profiler title.
My question is how do you change this 'computer name' ?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Ti-Powerbook/MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You can change your computer name in System Preferences (found under the Apple menu) in the Sharing pane. At the top of the pane it will say Computer Name: PowerBook G4 15".
Note that the name can contain spaces. Mine, for example, is Ministry of Magic.
Delete the current name and enter the new name. Note that you do not have to click the edit button out to the right. That is only useful if you want to change the bonjour address on your local subnet to be something different from NewComputerName.local (where NewComputerName is the new name you just changed it to.
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • How to change your displayed name

How do you change your displayed name in iCloud?  I have tried changing the settings and I also update my Apple ID profile, but iCloud still displays my old name.
The name displays in the upper right hand corner and is always displayed, even if you select Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Notes, etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • How to change your real name in gamecenter?

Alright so, I know how to change my nickname in gamecenter, but not my real name, my nickname and real name is shown to my friends, so I'd prefer instead of my mom's name, for mine, so people can find me and recognize me. I changed my name for my apple id, online at the manage your apple id page, but it hasn't seemed to update for gamecenter, does it? Or do I just have to wait?
    -Thanks

You can't.  If the person who receives your iMessage has your contact information in their iOS device, you will show up under your contact name.  Otherwise, it will show your ID, which is your email address.

  • How do you change your review name from anonymous?

I don't want to submit my review on a podcast as anonymous. After clicking on "submit a review" for the first time, I was asked to create a name that would be used to identify myself as the reviewer, or I could pick anonymous. I chose a name and then was forwarded to the next step to write the review. I decided to wait to write the review at a later time so I canceled and logged out until I had more time later to write the review. When I logged back in and finished the review, I was listed as anonymous on the preview page, so I didn't submit the review yet. How do I change from "anonymous" to the tag that I would like to use?

If you go into your account within iTunes, you can set up a "nickname" which will be used for your review name.
    Hope this helps.

  • Changing your contacts names in Skype

I've noticed you are able to change a contact's name by right-clicking on their name.
If I change someone's name, are they notified of this?
Does their name change on their Skype if I change their name?
I just want to change their name to be able to identify them better so I can associate their real name or other profile name with their Skype name.
Hope somebody can advise me on this.
    Thanks.

Hi, Brymbo76, and welcome to the Community!
Let us take your questions one at a time:
I've noticed you are able to change a contact's name by right-clicking on their name.  If I change someone's name, are they notified of this?
No, they are not.  You are making the change on your side (in other words, on your contact list) only.
Does their name change on their Skype if I change their name?
Absolutely not!  Skype does not permit account names to be changed once they are created.  Neither is contact list information traded like a "two-way street."
Lots of people use this convenience feature!
    Best regards,
    Elaine

  • HT3051 can you change your Change Your Displayed Name if you have multiple devices attached with the same apple id?

We have both a Iphone 4s and a 4th Generation Ipod Touch both with the latest available IOS software on them. Since the Ipod touch was given to a preteen for Christmas and they aren't old enough to have their own email account or apple id 11 years old going on 12, is it possible to have a different displayed name for each device if they are both signed in with the same apple ID and not interfere with each others device in doing so?

@pdroth. Displayed name as in when you sign up for a apple id you sign up with email and a screen name(this is your display name). If you are using any apple device as like you do with an android device you have to sign in with either your google acct for android or apple id for a apple product. If one apple product is utilizing that apple id already aka Iphone and you can't set up a account for your child because of his or her age because of age restrictions, both devices will use the same info. So for instance when using things like facetime instead of seeing jane doe calling jane doe(basically making it show name of other person using your account instead of seeing your own name) can you make on jane doe and one john doe using the same apple id just different outgoing display name. Hopefully this helps.

  • Changing your facetime name

I am trying to change the Facetime name on my children's iPod touch.  When they try to Facetime their friends, the call says my name.  I want their name to show on the Facetime incoming call.

  • How do you change your user name associated with the app store on the iphone 3G. When attempting to update, it is using an old email address that has since been changed at the apple site. The problem is that my phone does not seem to recognize this.

I have exausted my ideas, and turn to the forum, prior to paying for something that may be a 2second simple fix. Please help if you can. Let me know if you need more info to understand my dilema.
    Thanks.

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them.  You will always be asked for the password associated with this ID when updating apps, regardless of whether or not you are using this ID for current purchases.  The only way to stop this is to delete the old apps from your phone and iTunes and repurchase them with your current ID.
Edit: to change the ID used for future purchases on your phone, go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in using the new ID.  As explained above, you will still be prompted with the old ID when updating apps purchase with the older ID.

  • How do you change your device name on the latest version of Itunes?

    I can't figure it out...

Connect your device to iTunes. Select it in the device section (left) then click on its name (center of screen) and edit it. Or you do it on your device in Settings -> General -> About -> Name

  • Can I change the "Organization" name in the Site License Information field?

This is a non-critical problem, but it bugs me every time I see it.
When I originally setup my OS X Server install some time ago, I mistyped my company name... so I have a single character out of place.
The admin GUI gives the impression you can change this information since it render this information in editable fields, despite the fact that I can change and even submit the changes with a "save" command... the changes never actually take place.
I was wondering if there was any way I could update this data. Any help would be appreciated since I'm constantly reminded of my mistake every time I logon to admin my Xserve.

You can rename the table within the mapping and then synchronize it with the new table, using the option "match by names". The fields must have the same names as the new table fields. New fields will be created in the table.

  • Changing your macs name

I recently bought a 4 month old macbook in perfect condition, and everything is in the original owners name, how do i change this????!??

I would suggest booting from the install DVD, opening the Disk Utility, reformat the drive using "Zero all data" under the "Security Options' button, reinstall the system after that and then run Software Update to bring everything up to date.

  • Changing your contacts names back to default.

At the moment there is no possibility to give a person their default name back after you changed it.For example, I have SuperUb0rPet0r in my contacts and just rename him to Peter but now I won't know if he changed his name to something else.

I found a way to change it back to default. Right click on the name in the contacts list, click Rename..., delete the name in there, hit enter, delete the name again in the window that pops up, hit ok.
