Charts in PowerPivot 2010

I am uable to create charts out of Power Pivot.. It is only showing the table, but the data sheet for the charts is not available.  Do you have a solution for this problem?

Hello,
In Power Pivot Window, when you click on the Little arrow below of "PivotTable", do you get a list including chart options like in the screenshot? In Excel => Ribbon "PowerPivot" => "PivotTable", do you get the chart options
there?

  • PowerPivot 2010 - When I try to filter data in a slicer, it doesn't work (too many characters?)

    Hi,
PowerPivot 2010 - When I try to filter data in a slicer (I click on a value in the slicer to filter data) and the value is above a certain amount of characters (255?), it doesn't work.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks.
    Mr. Flycatcher

    Hello,
I can confirm, such long slicer values can cause issues. E.g. you can not select such an value with a simple mouse click, but if I remove the filter then I can use key "Ctrl" + mouse click combination to select/deselect such value.
The best way is to short such values.

    Hi pscorca,
Having read the article can you further clarify what you require, perhaps with an illustration?

  • How to reopen PowerPivot field list from Pivot chart in Excel 2010

    Hi
I can't figure out how to open the PowerPivot fields list without having a PowerPivot table. In several sheets I use PowerPivot, but insert a PivotChart directly as a PivotTable isn't needed. It works well as long as the field list is open, but once I click
away and come back the fields list is missing and right-clicking the PivotChart only offers up chart related options. I have a few times gotten lucky and seen "Pivot fields list" as the bottom option when righ-clicking the edge of the PivotChart
allowing me to bring it back up, but I can't replicate this on a regular basis. Is there a keyboard shortcut or some ribbon option that will open the field list?
    Re
    D

Yes, I know and that part works, but I need a 2010 version as v1 and v2 of PowerPivot are incompatible.
    Re
    D
    Hello,
The PowerPivot field list becomes visible when you are working with a PivotTable or PivotChart that is based on PowerPivot data.

  • PowerPivots 2010: Query keeps timing out when attempting to Edit Table Properties

Excel PowerPivots Version:  PowerPivots for Excel 2010
Problem:  I have a table in PowerPivot windows using a SQL Query for a data source.  The query in question requires about 3 minutes to regenerate.  When I open Edit Table Properties for this data source the query times out
and I get an error (see below):  "
Failed to retrieve data from udvTrainJobReportsData. Reason: Query timeout expired"
This seems to happen anytime I use a query that takes longer than a couple of minutes to regenerate.  Anyone have an idea on how to get around this.  Is there a timeout setting somewhere in PowerPivots that can be increased?

    Hi,
We could add the seconds in the timeout values.
Then, if you want to add the timeout values for the SQL Query, please following the link to do:

  • Powerpivot Report 2010 - OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00

    0
I have report already developed by someone in powerpivot 2010 and deployed to sharepoint in powerpivot gallery library. The data source for this report is SQL Server 2008 r2. I have set the refresh options in sharepoint to run after business hours during
week end. When I check the refresh history it shows this error message "OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00. An error occurred while processing the 'xxx' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the
    transaction failed..
I have tried to run the "Also refresh as soon as possible " just to check but same error message is shown.
This is the detailed error message details:
    03/02/2014 21:06:55 03/02/2014 22:08:15 01:01:20 Failed
OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00. An error occurred while processing the 'xxx' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed
Could anyone guide me on this issue? Truly appreciate your help in advance.

Note: Please ensure that the account have sufficient permission access to your data source.
In addition, please elaborate your PowerPivot data soure with more detail. If you are using SSAS cube, please try to increase "ExternalConnectionTimeout" property default value to see if this helps. Here is the similar thread for your reference,

  • Switch Linked (xl source) Tables - behavior change Excel 2010 PP vs. Excel 2013 PP -- In 2013 all calcs of table are lost

    Situation:
PowerPivot 2010 Model based on 10 linked tables (this tables are generated and refreshed as needed by SQL 2012 MDS Excel-AddIn)
Unfortunately Excel MDS AddIn changes sometimes the tablename (case: MDS Add-In Filter changed, MDS Server changed). So after Change of tablename we have to fix the powerpivot link to this Excel tables in powerpivot to get powerpivot refresh working again
    Problem:
With Excel 2010 PowerPivot this was possible without big Problems. As Long as table has identical structure one can Change/Switch the table in powerpivot Windows > Ribbon "Linked" Table > DropDown "Linked Table X" or during update
via Dialog "Errors in Linked Table"
After upgrading the solution to Excel 2013 this is not possible any more without loosing any column- or measure calcs defined for this table! :( Every time you Change the assigned Excel table for an existing linked powerpivot table..you
    get following Dialog:
"You are changing the source of X to Excel table Y. Changing the source will remove all formatting, measures, KPIs, hierarchies, and other Settings applied to the table. Are you sure you want to to continute?"
Does anyone found a Workaround for persisting existing calc of linked tables when changing the sourcetable (to another Excel table with same structure)??
Dear MS, this is IMHO really a step backwards and blocks the migration of our existing Excel 2010 PowerPivot Solution? Should i create a connect entry for that?!
    Version-Info:
    2010 Version: 11.0.3000.0 (PP Ribbon>Settings)
    2013 Version: 11.0.2809.81 (Product version displayed for dll c:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Addins\PowerPivot excel Add-In\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.dll)

There is a very similar issue discussed here where i tried to show the different behavior in terms of linked tables in Excel/PowerPivot 2010 vs 2013
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8fd927f7-30fd-49b7-809c-cb1414955638/linked-tables-excel-2013-vs-2010-difference?forum=sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel
maybe it helps you to understand the issue
I assume that MDS creates a new table every time you refresh it thereby breaking the link to PowerPivot
in case you only have calculated measure you may created a separate, independent linked table and define all calculated measures there
this way they at least would not get removed

  • How to improve slow PowerPivot performance when adding/modifying measures, calculated columns or Relationships?

I have been using PowerPivot for a couple of months now and whilst it is extremely quick when pulling in data to populate Pivot Tables, it is extremely slow to make the following kind of changes to the Data Model:
    - Add a Measure / Calculated Field
    - Add a Calculated Column
    - Rename a Calculated Field
    - Re-name a Calculated Column
    - Modify a relationship
    - Change a tables properties
    - Update a table
In the status bar of excel I get a very quick 'calculating', then it spends a lot of time 'reading data',
then it 'finalises' after which nothing is in the status bar but it still takes approx. 45 seconds before the program becomes responsive again. This waiting time does not change depending on the action, it is the same if I rename a
column as it is if I add a new measure.
My question is what affects performance of these actions and how do I improve it?
To give you an idea of where my data comes from, I have:
    - 7 tables that feed into the Data Model directly from within the workbook which contains the data model itself. These are a combination of static tables and tables that connect to a MySQL database.
    - 6 separate workbooks which contain static data that is updated manually periodically (copied and pasted from another source)
    - 5 separate workbooks which contain dynamic tables that are linked to our MySQL database and update when opened.
Now I realise that this is probably where my issue is, however I have no idea how to fix it. You do not seem to be able to connect to a MySQL database directly within the PowerPivot window itself so there is no way to generate and update tables without
first creating them either in a worksheet or separate workbook (as far as I know).  If I try to create all of the tables directly within the single workbook containing the Data Model I get performance and crashing issues hence why I separate tables into
    individual workbooks.
Any advice on how to improve performance would be tremendously appreciated. I'm new and keen to learn, I'm aware this set-up is far from best practice.
    Hardware wise I am using:
    - Windows 8 64-bit
    - Excel 2013 64-bit
    - Intel Core i7 processor
    - 6 GB Ram
    Thanks,
    James

    Darren,
I think the point I was making is its in memory, geez... BTW what do all applications do when they run out of paged memory,  if PowerPivot is using all available memory then wouldn't this force the other applications to use Virtual or essentially write
back and forth to the disks? I think Virtual memory white to disk ??, lol Also, there are parts if the architecture of Excel 2013 that when importing data into PowerPivot require memory and when working in SharePoint the PowerPivot data is cached to disk
unless recently refreshed... But this conversation isn't help the James who asked the question and as much as I would love to continue its become a little boring..
    Hi James,
If you download one the ODBC MySQL Connectors
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/ and I believe yours is the first one for x64 systems and connect directly to the data you should be able to reduce the number of workbooks your opening and if you notice in the following graphic these
connection are automatically refreshed by default, the parts in red are the differences between PowerPivot 2010 and 2013
You should notice a lot of improvement especially when refreshing data please let us know how it goes...
    After registering the ODBC Driver
Click Add. on the User-DSN sheet, choose the “MySQL ODBC 5.x driver”, fill in the credentials, choose a database (from the select menu) and a data source name and you’re done.
Back in Excel you go on the PowerPivot section of the ribbon and open the PowerPivot window  (the green icon on the left side). In the ‘Home’ section of that window you will see a small gray cylindrical symbol (the international
symbol for “database”) which will suggest to you different data sources to choose from. Take the one where it says “ODBC”.
In the next dialog you click on create, choose the adapter, and then Ok. Back in the assistant you can check the connection and proceed.
Now you have the choice between importing the data from tables using the import assistant or Query depends on your skillset..
    Cheers,

  • Trouble with Org Chart

    Hello Visio/Sharepoint Experts
I created an org chart on visio 2010  with only the executive team that I plan to publish on Sharepoint 2010.
However, I need help. Take for example John Smith, he is a director and has 15 people on his team. Only John will be visible on the org chart. The rest of his team will only be visible when someone clicks on John’s name, a box with the 15 team mates appear
    next to John’s name.
So, in short I want to create a hyperlinked box only visible when someone clicks on John’s Name.. I don’t want the box to open in a new page/window. Is it possible?
    Thank you

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to hide the sub team in the ORG chart until you need to show it.
Please try to right click the "director shape">Click Hide subordinates.
If there is a sub team hided, it 'll show a small icon in the right bottom. Just right click shape> Show subordinates

  • How to display a description in fact table from an unrelated DIM table in powerpivot?

    Hello,
I have two tables in powerpivot 2010: 1 that is my fact and the is unrelated. I'm relatively new to SQL and powerpivot.
What I need to do is display a description from my DIM table based on a column in my fact. Is this possible? In my fact, I
have  a ReasonID, the DIM has the ReasonID and description. I just need the description added in my fact as a new /
    another column. Thanks. John

    Hello,
When you have the same column in both tables, then they are related, even if in database no primary / foreign key is defined. In PowerPivot we can define additional / manual relation, just Change to "Diagram View" and define the relation like below:
But if you still want the "Dim description" as a computed column in your fact table, then you can use the
    LOOKUPVALUE function
    =LOOKUPVALUE(Dim01[Description], Dim01[ReasonId], Fact01[ReasonId])

  • Test connection successful and 0 rows transfered in Powerpivot

Hi..one of my user was unable to get the data. The test connection is successful but its getting 0 rows
eventually. While people using the same datafeeds are able to get the data. Can any one help me how can I troubleshoot?
Its powerpivot 2010 and 32 bit software !

    Hello ShiningStar,
You might be aware of the fact that in order to answer your question, there's more data required.
    1. Is this user on the same premises as "people"
    2. What are the rights for this user on the server for this datafeed?
    3. Can this user get the data on another computer with her credentials?

  • Nsf database imported in Excel but failed in PowerPivot

I have Excel 2010 and PowerPivot 2010 version 32 bit and I would like to import into PowerPivot a nsf database. I did the following steps:
1.created the datasourse with Lotus Notes via ODBC 32 bit
2.created with Excel a new connection via connection > add > new source > Other Advanced > use data source name (reference to the datasource created at step1) + user name and password
(the datasourse is on domino server). I tested the connection and it was successful.
3.opened the connection in Excel, I was prompted for the password and entered again and the database was imported very well
4.in PowerPivot window Design > Existing Connection. In the displayed list of connections, I selected the connection created at step 2. I tested the connection and it was again successful. But
at the final step I have got the error “No tables were found in the data source. Check the connection information and login credentials”. I was not prompted for any password.
The connection string is displayed below (it is the same string that worked in Excel but failed in PowerPivot):
    Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=UserID;Data Source=TEST1;Extended Properties="DSN=TEST1;UID=UserID; Database=act_ch4\AHinvoices.nsf;Server=domino/name;UserName=;EncryptPWD=;MaxSubquery=20;MaxStmtLen=4096;MaxRels=20;MaxVarcharLen=254;KeepTempIdx=1;MaxLongVarcharLen=5
    12;ShowImplicitFlds=0;MapSpecialChars=1;ThreadTimeout=60;Pwd=**********";Initial Catalog=(Default);Password=**********
Do you have any idea what did I do wrong and what can be done to be able to import the database in PowerPivot too?
