Chat keeps showing me offline when i talk in facebook to people and i am still online and logged in

i chat to people in facebook and i appear offline then when they answer they get the message that i am offline and need to send it as a message ie hello (send as a message) your chat message wasn't sent because madmax was offline . i am logged in all the time this happens ..i can send messages to people but when they reply they get the above message

I chat user showing as offline

Okay so I have a pretty serious issue here and I will list everything hopefully that you will need. I have a 2008 Mac book (black edition) it has the latest version of Mac OS.
I am studying in Sweden right now and like to talk to my freinds and family back home in America.
I have a feeling my problem is with my connection or ports or something on my computer.
I have the latest version of iChat and all my contacts show up online except a few people. One person I am trying to contact also has a mac we bought ours together. Up till about two weeks ago I could see her online and then now she is never on. The others use AIM and have xp or vistas, so I know it is not a program issue. The one with the mac, I called her and we were both online, but could not see each other online. I know this is a major issue because we both have skype too and I can not add and she cannot add me either. So I am thinking maybe something needs to be erased on my computer. I have read other threads and have tried different ports, creating new screen names, even reinstalling both programs, I have tried using AIM instead of iChat... no luck.
I have tried to contact skype about this and they are not sure, what could cause a problem like this. Something that might help is that on Skype when you add someone you send a message requesting for you to see their activity (online/offline). She is not getting it and when she tries to add me I am not getting it either.
As for iChat same thing except I have her and my other freinds added and they never show up online...
Some people do though...
Any thoughts?

so I am trying to figure this problem out mostly with skype because i am getting a little more information, so here is what I have so far....

here is an update I make another account. and sent freind request to each person and Profile A was under nhinderson and Profile B was under goodandbad. I changed Profile A name to Bob and signed into Profile B and the name had in fact changed to Bob so the only thing I am not getting is a request to add the person why not

IChat shows me offline when I am online?

I hope someone can help me. I am running Lion with latest combo update. I used to log in as a .mac address to iChat but friends of mine are saying that the last week or so I have been showing as offline. I can still talk to them on iChat though. I today tried the same name with the .me extension and I show as online. The buddies obvioulsy have to be re added.
A freind of mine has the same issue with his AOL account. I was wondering if this is a Lion update issue? I have deleted the .plist files and such that have been suggested in other posts. It has run on this macbook for years with no issues until the last week or so, not sure exaclty when I was starting to show as offline.

This can depend on where your and the name you have are in relation to each other and the end cycle of MobileMe.
I will try to make this clear.
Any @mac.com name will work in iChat as a Valid AIM Screen Name (Original Trial account, Paid for account or Lasped account)
AT the launch of MobileMe any @mac.com could be linked to the new @me.com name that you were given if you had a Paid for account.
For Mail Purposes the names were/are interchangeable but for Logging into AIM they are two different names.
(they were/are linked for Apple ID purposes using the same Password and being able to acces the same Apple areas (iTunes, Apple Discussions etc.) )
Since June 2011 MobileMe has been in a sort of run-down mode.
Some of the services have already disappeared but the final Paid For accounts will run out in June this year (2012 for late readers)
People are being encouraged to set up iCloud Names (which also end @me.com)
These can be linking other Apple IDs (non @mac.com and @me.com names) to the new iCloud Issued @me.com name.
So...
Adding an @me.com name to iChat is in fact adding new Screen Name (it will have no Buddies until you add them)
I have noticed myself that older @mac.com names I have (I have set up trial accounts in the past) show up in iChat as MobileMe IDs.
It is the same in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars

The Orange arrow and text shows wrong icon for an @mac.com account
The Red shows a Jabber account identified as a MobileMe account.
For some reason the Green has a misnamed account (it read @me.com in the details when it is in fac an @mac.com name)
Deleting the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist should get ichat to refresh the Login to AIM when you restart iChat (it is this action that recreeates the .plist).
This in turn shoould change the Status setting as iChat then defaults to being "Available".
One reason that this might not happen is s second Login.
Second computer, same iChat/AIM details.
Different Mac User account on your Computer using the same AIM/iChat Account details.
Different App on your computer.
Logging in via AIM Express or AIM AV on line in any browser on Computer or phone.
(once this is done, leaving the page will not log you out and a default Login period takes over - it is 2 weeks !!)

Ipad is showing as offline when using "find my iphone"

Hi
I am having trouble getting my ipad to be located using find my iphone. This was working and has now stopped working (and did stop working prior to installing iOS 5 so im pretty certain its nothing to do with my software update the other day)
I have downloaded the app, location services are on as are push notifications and of course find my iphone is enabled. Ipad is definately on and connected to the net as its only the wifi version.
When i try to find it, it says that its offline. I have tried a whole lot of things so far and nothing as worked
- turned airplane mode off/on - restart - no luck
- turned push notifications off/on - no luck
- turned location services off/on - no luck
- deleted my icloud account and then added again - no luck
- deleted the app and downloaded again (clutching at straws at this stage!) and still no luck
I read somewhere that it could be to do with me recently changing my apple ID which i did a couple of weeks ago - the suggestion that i read was to change my apple id back and it should work. Problem is that my old apple ID was 6 letters long and no capitals, so i can't change it back even if i wanted to
Also what annoys my is that i can actually locate my iphone sweet as just not my ipad

Are you sure it is still the same underlying Adobe account that was used when then books were originally accessed, with just the password changed?

Why is ipad2 still online and active when supposedly in lost mode and locked?

hey all,
i need some help regarding a situation i'm in!! the overview is i'm going through a messy breakup at the moment and my ex has possession of my ipad2 (a wi-fi model that's running ios6)!! it's supposedly for my 7 year old son's use (he's autistic)!! anyway, since it's registered to me, i had restrictions enabled with a 4 digit pass code where i had location services turned on, and i disabled my mail account and other things that would not be appropriate for my son to use or access, such as skype, facebook, etc!! basically, all that was on it was his game apps, safari, youtube and our photos of days out etc!! my ex was paranoid i was spying on her through the location service....... i explained that it was a security feature that would enable it to track it if it was lost or stolen!! she even thought i was listening to her conversations and watching her through the camera!! i explained this was absurd and paranoid!! anyway........
well, here's the problem!! after having the restrictions enabled for months, oddly enough after receiving a summons last week requesting her to attend court next week concerning the matter of my contact with my son, i noticed yesterday on my find my iphone app on my icloud account on my macbook the locations services was disabled and the ipad was online, being used!! realizing immediately she's obviously figured out my restrictions pass code and turned off the locations feature!! i immediately put it into lost mode (receiving an email confirming), and within minutes, it was offline for about 4 hours!! in the afternoon, i checked it again, lost mode was disabled and it was being used....... so i put it in lost mode again! 30 seconds later, it was disabled........ finally, i put it into lost mode and added a message that would be displayed on the screen stating 'be warned: i am aware you are using my passcode and password without my permission, which is a criminal breach of my privacy! ignore this & i will report to the police!'! it went offline! 7pm i received a text to my iphone asking my my son couldn't access the ipad and why was there a request to phone her! i ignored, as i know this was a game!! whilst in work, i received an email to my icloud mail inbox stating that 'lost mode had been enabled'......... making me realize she must also have access to my apple ID to gain access to icloud to enable lost mode! it stands to reason that you cannot tell the device you are actually using it is lost and lock it down!! finally, i updated the lost mode with a new message stating i was going to the police and she freaked out!!
so, that's the situation! the questions i need answered are:
*aside from a lucky guess, how else could she get my pass code and icloud pass word? is it possible the ipad has been jailbroken, hacked or spyware has been used to get my pass code and password?
*how come, when in lost mode, it says on the find my iphone feature on icloud that it's active (green spot) and 'online: location services disabled'? should lost mode not render the device unusable? i monitored it for at least an hour last minute...... it kept changing it's status from 'online: location service disabled' to simply 'offline'!
*in the 'find my iphone' app on icloud, next to the lost device, there's a symbol of an orange padlock! what does this actually mean? if it means it's locked, then how can it be online and seemingly active?
just to cap off, i've requested the device be returned to me (my ex has ignored this, stating only she intends to replace this device so she's free from my control and spyware) and i've contacted my solicitor who has offered to send an official letter requesting it's safe return!! as the device is registered in my name and contains my personal information, i understand the implications for her is that she's committed theft and possibly used criminal means to invade my privacy!!
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

GW V2.0.4 shows user offline when they are really online?

I have just upgraded our GW messenger from V1 to V2.0.4. I have just one issue with one user(A). user(A) has user(B) added to her contact list but user(B) shows offline even when user(B) is online. I have no problems talking to user(B) nor does anyone else. User(B) also shows that user(A) is online but not vice versa. User(A) always has to wait for user(B) to start a conversation. I have tried deleting, adding user(B) for user(A), i've uninstalled/reinstalled the client and have had no luck. I know something like this was posted a while back but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas/suggestions or even the answer for the fix?

My weather widget keeps saying "weather offline" when im on wifi or have full service?

on my iphone 4 in the notification centre, my weather widget says "weather offline" sometimes, most of the time is shows the weather, but sometimes it is offline even when im on wifi or have full service. its so annoying. how can i fix this?

I'm seeing it too, and I know of no fix. So it's not just you. And, I'm in the US so it's not a problem in your country only.
I have found no pattern as to why I get "Weather Offline" but other times it's updated just fine.
Sometimes the Weather app refuses to update the local weather, other times it gets updated. I assume the issues are related. All the other weather locations I create in the app are updated, so I know it's not the weather server that's the problem. It's just the local weather in the app and notification center (or centre!)
Guess it's another iOS 5 bug. Let's hope it gets fixed in the next release.

Contacts showing as offline when they're online.

Title says it all but today I was chatting with a friend and bam all my contacts go offline some say away but the majority says offline I tried uninstalling and re installing. Tried changing status everything. Is anyone else having this problem? And how do I fix it?

UPnP was a Protocol first developed by Microsoft
Ergo it should work. (but then again)
You should go to Start > Control Panels > Firewall
Click on the Exceptions tab.
In the list in the new window Enable UPnP.
(Can't remember if there is an Apply or Ok Button that is active afterwards).
Which SMC device http://portforward.com/routers.htm
See top right of list.
If his is there he should click on it.
In the Next page click on iChat
On the device/iChat page he should find the default info for accessing his device.
Once he has Access he should stop following the Instructions and see if any of the menu items has UPnP and use that instead of doing Port Forwarding.
The DOS/SPI issue is now becoming more common for iChat for two reasons.
iChat 4 sends all the Video and Audio data on one port.
Internet connections are faster.
I have been a Broadband user since 1998 and have never noticed such as attack.
I am sure others may report differently. But any comment dropped here may help form a fuller opinion.

Printers keep showing up even when name has been changed in or deleted

Running 10.5.8 on our xserve. Earlier another and myself went in and changed printer names, deleted old ones. Problem is this. Our school recently bought new laptops for our teachers, running 10.8. We used migration asst. to bring their items and profiles over to the new machines. As teachers are getting back, they can not print. The printers showing up are the old names, along with the new ones and the drivers that were installed are not there. Wondering how to get rid of the printers that have been deleted from showing up in the Printer list. I was thinking it had something to do with the old profiles sharing all the printer lists accross the network.

The Migration Assistant (or something else) obviously found the old printer definitions... Somewhere. AFAIK, there's no sharing of any of these printer settings across the network, barring continued visibility of the old printer names via printer Bonjour announcements or some such, or getting the printer settings loaded into the clients via LDAP.
One usual approach for managing larger numbers of client boxes involves tools such as Munki and Puppet, or equivalent. Munki generally for the package-handling and installation stuff, and Puppet for the configuration management and issuing commands.
Various commercial MDM software packages are also used.
With OS X and OS X Server 10.8, a printer profile would be another common approach, though your 10.5.8 server well predates any profile support. (The MDM packages also usually tie directly into the profile management, as can Puppet.

Anybody encounter this and figure out whether it's a Mac OS or an Adobe issue... or even better, what it is & how to fix it? A quick search hints that it might be related to the wrong file extension being used, but these files are all standard PSDs with the correct file extension. Several have been created recently using the new-to-me CC2014 PS app I'm using to open them, so at first sight CS->CC version compatibility issues seem unlikely.
So far I've still been able to open the PSDs by ignoring and clicking through the warnings, but it obviously doesn't promote a relaxed frame of mind ;-)

Results as per below. I suspected the problem might be text/font related hence the additional steps.
- Created new file
- Quit PS
- opened file > OK
- Added editable text to file
- Quit PS
- Opened file: strtable error
- Restart machine
- Opened file: strtable error
- Reset PS preferences
- Opened file: strtable error
- Opened in plugin disabled mode
- Opened file > OK
- Deleted FontExplorer plugin
- Opened file > OK
- Quit PS
- Reinstalled FontExplorer plugin
- Opened test file & others with editable text > OK
So, in the end the problem was with the FontExplorer plugin and replacing that fixed it.

How do I keep the keypad open when making a call? I may need to enter an extension and the screen is black.

After I make a call sometimes I need to enter an extension. When I receive certain calls I need to be able to hit a keypad number. The phone screen goes dark in both situations. How do I keep it lit?

It remains dark even when you move the phone away from your ear? Is the proximity sensor covered by a screen protector or case, perhaps?
Try hitting the menu button to see if that lights up the screen so you can enter extensions or respond to prompts.
