Cisco Nexus 5010 FCOE Interconnection

Hi, i would really apreciate your help on this  doubt.
Is it possible to create a link between two cisco nexus 5010
using  CNA interfaces ?
I've already configured the ethernet interfaces(where the cna is plugged in),
i've binded the E1/2, mapped the vsan, created specific traffic vlan, and so on ...
I have  tried everything what's written in the manual but the vcf interface won't set up, keeps telling me "vcf is down" .
What am i doing wrong ? or this connection is imposible ...
Thanks in advance.

  • Cisco Nexus 5010 & Cisco 3560G Native Vlan 55 ?

    Hello Everyone,
I have 2 switches named in the title that have Switchport mode Trunk Native Vlan 55. In the vlan configurations I do not see a Vlan 55.
Does anyone know why this is configured this way ?
P.S I am new to the config

It's odd because I did that last time on both switches and it didn't show.
But I did it when you sent this message and lo and behold it was.
    Thank you

  • LMS 3.2 : Can't collect inventory from Nexus 5010

    Hello,
I've added a Nexus 5010 to LMS, and it recognized it as such, and it was also able to archive its configuration.
But LMS is unable to collect inventory from it : the error message is "Device Sensed, but collection failed".
I am able to do an snmp walk of the device and I do see the ENTITY mib.
I am running LMS 3.2 with no RME patches or device package updates.
I've attached the relevant portion of IC_Server.log.
    The Nexus 5010 is running NX-OS 4.1(3)N2(1a).
    Thanks for the help,
    Alex.

    >> I am running LMS 3.2 with no RME patches or device package updates.
So why not update the dev pkgs, then try again?
The latest RME pkg for Nexus is apparently v2.4, whereas I'm collecting the 5010s fine with v2.3.

  • Highest supported Brocade DCX firmware version to be interoperable with Cisco Nexus 5020

A Cisco Nexus 5020 (FCoE) switch is connected to Brocade DCX-B switch.
5020 is at latest firmware level of 5.0.2.N2.1
Brocade is at firmware level of 6.2.1b
If we need to upgrade brocade firmware, what is the maximum revision we can go to? Is there some documentation available for interoperability between the code levels of the two hardwares?

Please refer to "Table 7-10     Nexus InterOp Matrix" near the end of this link:

  • FCoE with Cisco Nexus 5548 switches and VMware ESXi 4.1

Can someone share with me what needs to be setup on the Cisco Nexus side to work with VMware in the following scenario?
Two servers with two cards dual port FCoE cards with two ports connected to two Nexus 5548 switches that are clusterd together.  We want to team the ports together on the VMware side using IP Hash so what should be done on the cisco side for this to work?
    Thanks...

    Andres,
The Cisco Road Map for the 5010 and 5020 doesn't include extending the current total (12) FEX capabities.  The 5548 and 5596 will support more (16) per 55xxk, and with the 7K will support upto 32 FEX's.
Documentation has been spotty on this subject, because the term 5k indicates that all 5000 series switches will support extended FEX's which is not the case only the 55xx will support more than 12 FEX.  Maybe in the future the terminology for the 5k series should be term 5000 series and 5500 series Nexus, there are several differences and advancements between the two series.

  • Nexus 5010 vlan supported limits

    Hi,
Just wanted to know whether the configuration  limits of 512 vlan on Nexus 5010 specified in the document below are software limitation which can be removed by adding enhanced image etc or hard limits which cannot be removed.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/configuration_limits/limits_503/nexus_5000_config_limits_503_n1_1b.html
    Regards
    Vijay Sequeira

Hard limits. There is no special license that can increase the numbers. Nexus doesnt have the concept of enhanced images either there is a single OS image and you just unlock specific features (eg fibre channel/fcoe  features) by applying licences.

Hi, I have the same problem as you.

  • LMS 3.2: RME failed archive with Nexus 5010

    Hi,
LMS 3.2, RME 4.3.1, dev packages updated, Windows.
We would like to archive the configuration of the Nexus 5010 switches. Due to authentication with Radius based on tokens we're not able to use telnet/SSH and therefore we only can use SNMP WRite in combination with TFTP.  But, this is not working at all. Other systems like 3750 works fine. Is there a difference between Catalysts IOS and nexus NXOS?
I searched the forum and found this:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/663481#663481
upgrade to LMS 2.6, archive config not working anymore
We ship and start a TFTP server by default on Windows.  You must have an SNMP read-write community string configured on your devices, and entered in DCR for TFTP config fetches to work.  Additionally, udp/69 must be open between device and server.
The easiest way to troubleshoot this kind of problem is to start a sniffer trace on the LMS server (using Device Center > Packet Capture).  Filter on all traffic to one of the failing devices.  Then, run a Sync Archive job for that same device.  When it fails, the sniffer trace will indicate what the problem is

show cfs lock gives no output.
Just to further clarify, we have 4 5548UP switches in the same management vlan. 2 switches are in one location lets say location A and they are CFS peers and are working fine.
These two switches which are having problem are in location B. All the switches are in the same vlan. Essentially the all CFS multicast messages will be seen by all 5548 switches as they are in the same vlan. I am assuming that this might not create any problems as we specify the peers in the respective configurations. Or do we have to change the CFSoIPv4 multicast addresses in location B or may be configure a different region.

  • Macvtap over Cisco Nexus ...

    Hi everybody!
First all my apologizes for my english language!
I have a standard server running linux (centos 6.5) with kvm to install and configure virtual machines. I tried to use macvtap driver to setup the virutal network interfaces. I not use ucs Cisco servers or Nexus 1000v switches!
The physical ethernet is connected to Cisco Nexus 2000 (with a Cisco Nexus  5548up). To default a standard switch not working with the macvtap configuration because the swith to be support "reflective relay" or "hair pinning" propierties for to this works.
Is possible configure the Cisco Nexus 5548up/2000 to this works? Capabilities how to Adapter-FEX, veheternet, VM-FEX o similars can help me?
Know you some docs over this?
    Thank you all.

    Hi Tony,
You do not have to worry about PFC. Priority-Flow-Control is something which is related to FCOE or DCBX protocol. With iSCSI as this is a TCP traffic, you have to make sure that you have a proper QOS for the IP Subnet or VLAN that has your iSCSI hosts transmitting the data. As iSCSI rides over TCP this is the major issue that I have seen related to the valid QOS config for the traffic. There is not best practice for it but you have make sure that you added it to a class other than BE or Scavanger class.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,

  • Nexus 7000 fcoe expert advice

    Hi,
I have one Nexus 7000 with a fcoe supported blade N7K-F132XP-15.
Want to deply this in the LAB. I created a fcoe port for test purpose which is working. But some things are not very clear to me. I am pointing them below.
How to create the interface membership for storage VDC. Right now i created shared interfcae with the default VDC. But can i create the interfcae dedicated? What is the difference between when the interface is shared and dedicated ?
Also, on my shared interfcae while configuring FCoE port, it did not allow me to create priority flow control settings. See the error below.
    fcoe-dvt(config-if)# priority-flow-control mode auto
ERROR: pfc config not allowed on shared interface (0x1a000000)
    fcoe-dvt(config-if)#
On Nexus 5020, we have priority flow control settings as "auto" for eahc fcoe interface. In the nexus 7000 case, i dont know what and how priority flow control is taking place.
Any white paper on Nexus 7000 fcoe will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Marko,
Yes it is supported, here is a link to the interoperability matrix for storage, also  you can find CNA compatibility
here as well. It is a difficult to find on cisco.com because it has been added in with the MDS.

  • Cisco Nexus 5548UP to Brocade SAN Connectivity

    Hi,
I have a Server-SAN-Storage setup as shown in the attachment/below. There are new Cisco UCS rack mount servers with VIC 1225 and Virtual servers on VMware Esxi hypevisor connected to a new Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch in IP+FCoE mode. The new 5548 switch then connects to an existing production SAN of Brocade 48000 Director SAN switch which connects to storage in production environment.
I need to know the best way to connect the 5548 switch to the Brocade SAN switch without disrupting the existing Production SAN environment i.e. Brocade SAN switch configurations & setup e.g. Fabric Principal switch. priority etc.
Would configuring the 5548 switch in NPV mode be best practice?

See Figure 6-2 Converged Multi-hop FCoE Network Design Using FCoE NPV
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/operations/fcoe/513_n1_1/ops_fcoe/ops_fcoe_npv.html
You have to use NPV on N5k, there is no FC interop support on N5k, to connect to Brocade.

  • Cisco Nexus 5548UP

    Hi
I need a switch that supports FC, FCoE and iSCSI traffic. The switch that has been suggested to us is Cisco Nexus 5548UP.
I have the following queries regarding this switch:
    1)       At our end, I have AMS 2100 Hitachi Storage which has iSCSI & FC Ports. I also have Qlogic CNA card at the server end which supports both ISCSI & FCOE. For FCoE protocol based traffic, the storage to switch connection will have to be FC and the switch to server connection will be FCoE. Can you please confirm whether, if this will be possible through the proposed Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch?
    2)       The specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
    3)       We are going to use  -SFP-FC4G-SW & SFP-10G-SR SFP for fiber connectivity. Can you please let us know the what these SFP are used for and whether they assist in FC and FCoE traffic forwarding?
    4)       We are also going to use Nexus 5500 Storage License, 8 Ports. Does this indicate that only 8 ports of the switch can be connected to the storage? Among these ports, can we configure 4 ports for FC and 4 ports for iSCSI (keeping in mind that our storage has both FC and iSCSI ports)?
    5)       Is there any License required for enable FC, FCoE and iSCSI protocols?
An early resolution of these queries will enable us to make a decision regarding the switch.
    Thanks
    Bhanudas Mali

The specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
The "UP" in the Nexus 5548 stands for Universal Port.  This means that each port can support FC, FCoE and Ethernet.  So, a 5548 has 32 ports of SFP/SFP+.  Each port can support and push 10 Gbps at a 1:1 oversubscription rate.
There is an optional 16-port SFP/SFP+ module, N55-M16UP, which will add an additional 16 Universal Ports.
Because they are "universal" they can support 1/10 Gbps FCoE and Ethernet as well as 1, 2, 4 and 8 Gbps FC.

  • Private Vlan, Etherchannel and Isolated Trunk on Nexus 5010

I'm not sure if I'm missing something basic here however i though that I'd ask the question. I recieved a request from a client who is trying to seperate traffic out of a IBM P780 - one set of VIO servers/clients (Prod) is tagged with vlan x going out LAG 1 and another set of VIO server/clients (Test) is tagged with vlan y and z going out LAG 2. The problem is that the management subnet for these devices is on one subnet.
The infrastructure is the host device is trunked via LACP etherchannel to Nexus 2148TP(5010) which than connects to the distribution layer being a Catalyst 6504 VSS. I have tried many things today, however I feel that the correct solution to get this working is to use an Isolated trunk (as the host device does not have private vlan functionality) even though there is no requirement for hosts to be segregated. I have configured:
    1. Private vlan mapping on the SVI;
    2. Primary vlan and association, and isolated vlan on Distribution (6504 VSS) and Access Layer (5010/2148)
    3. All Vlans are trunked between switches
    4. Private vlan isolated trunk and host mappings on the port-channel interface to the host (P780).
I haven't had any luck. What I am seeing is as soon as I configure the Primary vlan on the Nexus 5010 (v5.2) (vlan y | private-vlan primary), this vlan (y) does not forward on any trunk on the Nexus 5010 switch, even without any other private vlan configuration. I believe this may be the cause to most of the issues I am having. Has any one else experienced this behaviour. Also, I haven't had a lot of experience with Private Vlans so I might be missing some fundamentals with this configuration. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Emcmanamy, Bruce,
    Thanks for your feedback.
Just like you, I have been facing the same problematic last months with my customer.
Regarding PVLAN on FEX, and as concluded in Bruce’s previous posts I understand :
You can configure a host interface as an isolated or community access port only.
We can configure “isolated trunk port” as well on a host interface. Maybe this specific point could be updated in the documentation.
This ability is documented here =>
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/layer2/513_N2_1/b_Cisco_n5k_layer2_config_gd_rel_513_N2_1_chapter_0101.html#task_1170903
You cannot configure a host interface as a promiscuous  port.
You cannot configure a host interface as a private  VLAN trunk port.
Indeed a pvlan is not allowed on a trunk defined on a FEX host interface.
However since NxOS 5.1(3)N2(1), the feature 'PVLAN on FEX trunk' is supported. But a command has to be activated before => system private-vlan fex trunk . When entered a warning about the presence of ‘FEX isolated trunks’ is prompted.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/layer2/513_N2_1/b_Cisco_n5k_layer2_config_gd_rel_513_N2_1_chapter_0101.html#task_16C0869F1B0C4A68AFC3452721909705
All these conditions are not met on a N5K interface.
    Best regards.
    Karim
