Cisco Prime 2.0: Root GUI account missing
Hi,
Somehow the 'root' account is missing in the local db -> AAA. How do i add one; only 'root' priveleges can add root accounts.
I have CLI root access; somewhere there can i add 'root' GUI account?
Best Regards,
D.
Once logged in to the CLI, you should be able to issue the following command:
ncs password root password xxxxxxxx
You can then log into the GUI using the root account.
Note the following password policy:

Hi,
I want to access Cisco PI 2.1 GUI using my AD credentials, so on PI I've enabled RADIUS AAA Mode and added RADIUS servers (two ISE nodes in our case). On ISE I added PI as RADIUS client and configured the same keys. Next, on ISE I created authorization profile PRIME_ADMIN_ACCESS with only attribute settings defined:
My authentication and authorization rules relating that case are as on following screenshots:
So when I open GUI of PI and enter my AD credentials to log in I have no success and I receive following message:
Looking in ISE's Authentication section I can see following:
Time difference between these two authentication/authorizations is just 25 msecs and clicking on each of them reveals following:
So at first I can authenticate and authorize (authorization profile has necessary attributes defined for PI management access (NCS:role0=Root, NCS:virtual-domain0=ROOT-DOMAIN)) and after 25 msecs I am getting failure. So what could be cause of such things and how I can successfully log in to PI GUI authenticating via ISE using AD credentials?Hi,
-- Please Go to Administration > Logging > set the Message level to TRACE > Click save
-- Then try to add the ISE.
-- Once it fails, collect the logs from Administration > Logging >
check the "ncs-0-0.log" & search the file for "ERROR" & paste the results here. This will give us exact reason.

Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 DFM Devices Missing
Hi Everybody
Having manually added a device into the DCR and confirmed that it's in a managed state I cannot get added into DFM. Within Device Centre, it's collector status against "Data Collection", "Inventory", and "Fault Discovery" are all Success.
My Device Allocation Policy (Inventory > Device Administration: Device Allocation Policy) is currently set to Manage All Devices.
Running "geti Router" from within dmctl -s DFM returns all but the device in question.
I have manually deleted and readded and have also restarted service CRMDmgtd.
Many Thanks in anticipation.Hi,
can you try to remove it from DB as below ::
NMSROOT/Objects/smarts/bin/dmctl -s DFM invoke <Class>::<Instance> remove
Class => Switch or Router,
Instance => Device IP or Name.
dmctl> invoke Switch::X.X.X.X remove
then add the device back in LMS and see if it makes any difference.
Also try to increase the SNMP timeout and retry for DFM:
Admin > Network > Timeout and RetrySettings> FaultManagement SNMP Timeouts and Retries
Thanks-

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3, Mail Configuration
Hi,
I have a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 and I want to set up the mail. When I test it, I get this error:
Failed to send mail to primary SMTP server. Failed to send mail to secondary SMTP server. Please make sure that you save mail configuration by hitting 'Save' button.
I have the ip address, and the username and password. Do I need to create a new buzon for the prime? because by default the "From" field appears with
[email protected]
Thanks!!Some extra info that has just come to my attention. At one point we were running (we're actually still running) CiscoWorks with LMS3.2 and Cisco NCS 1.x. I merged these two things together into Cisco Prime Infrastructure (upgraded the licensing to get 450 lifecycle licenses to cover the APs + all of the devices coming from LMS3.2). I followed all of the documented procedures to upgrade the NCS appliance to Prime Infrastructure. But when I type "show application" from the CLI of the NCS appliance (now the Prime Infrastructure appliance) I see this:
HQ-NCS1/admin# show application
NCS Cisco Prime Network Control System
Is that normal? Maybe this is my problem. Should this output list "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" instead of (or in addtion to) Cisco Prime Network Control System? When I login to the GUI it shows "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" and the GUI has changed considerably (menus are different) so I'm assuming that the application upgrades I launched from the CLI to go to Prime Infrastructure worked fine. -
Cisco Prime Infrastructure Scheduled Configuration Archive not executing
We have a deployment of Cisco Prime Infrastrcuture 1.3 (1.3.0.20).
Configuration Archive is a feature that collects and archives the device configurations i.e. cisco switches.
You have an option to schedule this to run, say daily, weekly etc. Once scheduled you can see it in the "Jobs Dashboard" and with the "next start time" of what you configured. I have a situation whereby the time it is suppose to start - it doesnt - howevere flags the job as a "success". Not newe device configurations are archived and the "next start time" remain the same. Its almost like it is failing to execute, but some other process under the hood thinks that it was been executed correctly?
Any ideas or experience that could help here would be appreciated! Some extra info that has just come to my attention. Cisco Prime 2.0 web interface access
We just installed Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Express. It seemed to have installed correctly? But Two oddities. First when the system is restarted it takes and inordinate amount of time before the web interface becomes available. Once the web service is responding, it will not except ANY login credentials.
I can ssh to the instance and using cli, added two additional accounts. All accounts can access the install instance using ssh. None are able to login to the webinterface.
Thoughts as to what I may have missed?
GabePlease login to the CLI as admin then execute the command to change the password for the root WebUI acccount
> ncs password root password Private123
Loading USER - root
Validating new password..
Resetting password ..
Resetting password COMPLETED.
EXECUTION STATUS : Success
Once you've changed this password please then try to use those credentials to login to
the WebUI you indicated was presented in your response above.
Let me know if this does it. If not, we'll need to go a little deeper::: -

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Web Log In Error
Hi,
I recently installed Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 per the set up guide. I am able to log into the VM back end but when I try to log into the web interface with the admin account I get the following error message "Invalid Username or Password. Please try again". I verified that the username and password are correct but I still can not get in.I think there is some bug (or feature) that makes that the accounts defined during setup are not valid in the web gui.
Since the users I created using CLI, work when I SSH into the PI 1.3, I know they are correct.
Clearly the web part uses a different way to authenticate users. I'm told all this worked just fine in PI 1.2, so not sure what cisco is up to.
To resolve this use the root account to login in the web interface.
It has the same pw as the admin user.
There you can create an admin account (and or others)
Cheers,

User Name and Password for Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1
Hi all:
I am stuck at the login page of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1.
I have tried using the user name root and its password (when log in with root at Vsphere Client) and also the login user name "before" get into the appliance infrastructure, all cannot work.
Anybody knows what is the default username or password or any way to set the username and password for this Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 website?
Thanks!
tangsuanHi Tangsuan,
Following is the documented procedure for password recovery..
In order to modify the GUI root user password, you will need to login to the NCS CLI
as an admin user, and enter the command
"ncs password root password <new password>" (without the quotes)
This should set the web interface root user password :
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/ncs/1.1/configuration/guide/manag.html#wp1268889
If you have lost your CLI password , try the default logging that is ,
CLI user is admin and not root, so please try logging in as admin with
the password that was set during setup. If that does not work , you need
the install disk that came with the appliance to recover that password.
Follow these steps:
Recovering a Lost Admin Password
If you lose or forget the admin password for NCS appliance, follow these steps.
Step 1 Reboot the NCS appliance with the ISO DVD inserted. The Cisco Prime Network Control
System Welcome screen appears:
ISOLINUX 3.11 2005-09-02 Copyright (C) 1994-2005 H. Peter Anvin
Welcome to Cisco Prime Network Control System
To boot from hard disk, press <Enter>.
Available boot options:
[1] Network Control System Installation (Keyboard/Monitor)
[2] Network Control System Installation (Serial Console)
[3] Recover administrator password. (Keyboard/Monitor)
[4] Recover administrator password. (Serial Console)
<Enter> Boot existing OS from Hard Disk.
Enter boot option and press <return>.
boot:
Step 2 Select the desired recovery option, 3 or 4, depending on how you
are connected to the appliance and then follow the prompts.

JeremyHi Jeremy,
SNMP traps are shown in the events and alerts section of PI.
SNMP config looks fine. Can you run the SNMP debug (debug snmp packets ) .check the logs and see if the device is actually sending the TRAPS to the PI server.

Cisco Prime Infrastructure patch 2.1.1 - HA issue
Hello,
I have a problem with the Cisco Prime Infrastructure patched to version 2.1.1. I did exactly what Installation Guidelines say:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2-1-1/release/notes/cpi_rn.html
– Install the Prime Infrastructure 2.1.1 patch by using the Administration > Software Updates page on the primary server.
– Restart the primary server.
– Verify that the patch installation is complete. If you find the installation complete, decommission and reinstall the secondary server and add it back to the primary server.
I reinstalled HA server and I'm trying to add it to HA but I get "Failed to authenticate - Primary(xx.xx.xx.xx) and Secondary(xx.xx.xx.xy) PI version does not match"
Can you help me with that? What I'm doing wrong? or maybe this patch is not prepared to work in HA mode?
RegardsSymptom:
The installation instructions of PI 2.1.1 patch in a High Availability environment are not accurate and following these steps will result in the inability to re-pair the Primary and Secondary servers.
Conditions:
If the instructions are followed, then when the user attempts to re-pair the servers, an error will be encountered:
"High Availability Registration Failed - Failed to authenticate - Primary (x.x.x.1) and Secondary (x.x.x.2) PI version does not match".
Instead, the following steps have proved to work correctly:
1. Upload and install patch on primary.
2. Upload and install patch on secondary.
3. Stop NCS services on secondary
4. Stop NCS services on primary
5. Start services on secondary
6. Start services on primary
7. Re-pair HA servers from primary
Workaround:
Workaround 1:
On the secondary, go under root and issue:
# cd /opt/CSCOlumos/bin/
# ./hamode.sh primary
Answer 'yes' when prompted.
Go to admin user and execute
# ncs stop
After the services are stopped:
# ncs start
When the services are back up, login to the secondary GUI as you would login to a primary server
Go under Administration > Software update, upload the patch and install it.
Go to admin user and execute
# ncs stop
After the services are stopped:
# ncs start
When the services are up, go under root and issue:
# cd /opt/CSCOlumos/bin/
# ./hamode.sh secondary
Answer 'yes' when prompted.
Go to admin user and execute
# ncs stop
After the services are stopped:
# ncs start
After the message that services started successfully on the secondary, initiate a new High Availability configuration from the primary. Now the synchronization between the two servers should succeed.
Workaround 2:
Redeploy or reinstall the Primary server, restore the backup which was taken prior to applying the patch, reconfigure the High Availability and continue with the steps described in the Conditions section.

WCS and LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Upgrade
Hello,
Our customer is currently having WCS for 500 devices and LMS 3.2 for 1500 devices. We are planning to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.
I want to check is the upgrade procedure that we have planned is ok or we have missed something.
Phase 1: WCS to CPI 1.3 upgrade
1. Check that WCS is at 7.0.230.0 version
2. Export WCS database
3. Install NCS 1.1.1.24 software
4. Contact cisco to obtain trial license for NCS software (L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license).
5. Migrate WCS license and import it in NCS software
6. Migrate WCS data to NCS software using ncs migrate command
7. Patch NCS software
8. Inline upgrade to CPI 1.3 software
9. Install proper licenses on CPI 1.3 (WCS and LMS device count)
My concern in this first phase is should I use NCS large image since our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 software should manage 2000 devices at the end.
Or is it better not to perform inline upgrade and insted go with exporting data from NCS and then importing them to CPI 1.3 that is going to be installed separately?
Phase 2: LMS 3.2 to CPI upgrade
1. Export LMS 3.2 database
2. Install LMS 4.2 software
3. Install license to LMS 4.2
4. Restore data from LMS 3.2 to LMS 4.2
5. Direct upgrade from LMS 4.2 to 4.2.2
6. Export the device list with credentials from LMS 4.2.2 and import it as a Bulk Import in CPI 1.3
At the end we will have CPI 1.3 and LMS 4.2.2 software running.
Is it possible to directly upgrade from LMS 4.2 to LMS 4.2.4 and then import data to CPI 1.3 or we need to go with 4.2.2 version?
Regards,
JelenaHello Marvin,

Are this errors going to affect our LMS 4.2 operations?
Then we have upgraded to LMS 4.2.2 and exported data and credentiales for PI import.
On PI 1.3 we have installed WCS 500 devices upgrade license and LMS 1500 upgrade license and now we are having 2000 devices lifecycle license. We have successfully restored WCS data in PI and we have imported LMS devices as bulk import. What is strange is that we have this message in prime regarding licensing:
On LMS 3.2 our customer had saved unlimited number of configuration versioning. After upgrading to LMS 4.2 we can only see last 3 configurations regardless of unlimided number of configurations in previous LMS, so my question is where can we find older configurations in LMS 4.2?
We are planning to turn unlimited versioning on CPI 1.3 now, so our customer will again have feature that they need. Do you have some experiance regarding disk space when all device configurations are stored forever?
Thank you for your help.

Hi all,
We would like to bring cisco prime assurance 9.1 in to our Organization
Guys could you please provide me install guide or screen shot of the application for the assurance version 9.1 and I wanted to know the prerequisite for this application like server requirement etc
We are having a UCS in which we can run a VM machine but I wanted to know is cisco prime is installed on windows server 2008 ent edition R2,R1?
Or it has any OVI template like CUCM or how do I install and integrate it?
Please help me to proceed in this case..
Rgds,
Rebecca
God bless u all!!Hi Rebecca,
Well....at least you're getting there
I believe you'd need glabaladmin for the UI as admin is for cli;
User Accounts
For Prime Collaboration, you will be required to specify various passwords at different instances. This section is designed to help you specify appropriate passwords in several scenarios that demand your login credentials (applicable for both converged application and standalone Prime Collaboration Assurance and Prime Collaboration Provisioning applications).
•globaladmin- A superuser who can access both Prime Collaboration Assurance and Prime Collaboration Provisioning UIs.
•globaladmin password- Specify this password when you configure your virtual appliance for either standalone or converged applications. See Configuring the Prime Collaboration Assurance Virtual Appliance and Configuring the Prime Collaboration Provisioning Virtual Appliance. You are also required to specify this password when you log in to the UI (see Password Rules for root User and globaladmin).
In Prime Collaboration Provisioning, this password is synched with the password of postgres admin (to perform backup and restore operations). The password is then updated in the database and in the /opt/cupm/sep/dfc.properties file. You must log in as a root user to access the dfc.properties file.
Note If you plan to install both Prime Collaboration Assurance and Prime Collaboration Provisioning, ensure that you specify the same password for both applications during installation.
•CLI Admin Username—The default username is admin. However, you can specify the username of your choice.
•CLI Admin Password—Specify a password for the SSH CLI admin. This password is used to log in to the CLI to check the application status and perform backup and restore (see Password Rules for CLI admin).
The CLI is supported only through SSH; Telnet is not supported. You can log in through SSH using port 26 for Assurance and port 22 for Provisioning.
•Root user—A superuser who has all privileges in Linux shell.
•Root password—Specify a password for the root user (see Password Rules for root User and globaladmin).
Password Rules for root User and globaladmin
•Must contain at least one of each: lowercase letter, uppercase letter, number, and special characters.
•No character in the password may be repeated more than three times consecutively.
•Cannot contain non-ASCII characters, %, +, and &.
•Cannot be cisco or ocsic or any variant obtained by changing the capitalization of letters therein, or by substituting 1,!, or | for i, substituting 0 for o, or substituting $ for s.
•Cannot be same as the username, and cannot be the username reversed.
•Must contain from 8 to 80 characters.
•Cannot end with these characters: *, ; or #.
Caution We recommend that you write down the root password, as it cannot be retrieved.
Note•To change the root password, you must log in as root user and execute the "passwd" command, which prompts you for a new password.
•If you are planning to integrate Provisioning and Assurance servers, make sure that you adhere to the Assurance-specific globaladmin password rules while setting up / creating the password for globaladmin in Provisioning.
Password Rules for CLI admin
•Must contain atleast six characters.
•Must contain at least one of each: lowercase letter, uppercase letter, and number.
•Must not be the same as the username itself.
Installation Prompts
We recommend that you find out the values beforehand for the following parameters, as you will be required to enter them at the console prompts when you configure the virtual appliance:
•IP address—The IP address of the virtual appliance. If you wish to change the IP address, see
•IP default netmask—The default subnet mask for the IP address
•IP default gateway—The IP address of the default gateway
•Default DNS domain—The default domain name
•Primary nameserver—The primary name server. You may add a name server. To configure several name servers, enter y.
•Primary NTP server[time.nist.gov]—The primary NTP server. To enter a secondary NTP server, enter y at the next prompt.
Note Prime Collaboration 9.5 supports three NTP servers. To configure a tertiary NTP server, enter y at the next prompt, after you specify a secondary NTP server.
•Timezone—The timestamp that is displayed on the UI is the server time. By default, the configured timezone is UTC. For a list of supported timezones, see Supported Timezones for Prime Collaboration. You must use the same timezone for Prime Collaboration Assurance and Prime Collaboration Provisioning servers in converged mode.
•Username—The CLI admin username. The default is admin. However, you can specify the username of your choice.
•Password—The CLI admin password. This password is used to log in to the CLI to check the application status and perform backup and restore.
•Root user—A superuser who has all privileges in Linux shell.
•Root password—Specify a password for the root user.
•globaladmin—A superuser of the application who has all privileges, and whose account used for initial login to the application (UI).
•globaladmin password—Specify a password for the globaladmin.
•Network deployment mode-Select the network deployment mode you need. Specify E for Enterprise Deployment or M for Managed Service Provider Deployment (E/M).

Hello!!
We have multiple controllers Cisco WLC 5508 (all running software version 7.6.120.0) distributed in various buildings and a controller in other control building (also Cisco WLC 7.6.120.0 5508) operating as Master and backup of the buildings's controllers .
Each building is radiated such an SSID that is used as a validation of the user connected to that SSID web portal each controller (in the WLAN, Security -> Layer 3 -> Web Policy), using the local database to validate the user.
The problem is that the local database of users is not being replicated between controllers buildings and the Master controller, so if you drop the controller of a building, the Master controller begins to provide service to the buildings access points, but the equivalent radiated SSID cannot able to validate users.
I need know if it's possible through Cisco Prime Infrastruture 2.1, first replicate in the Master controller on the basis of existing controllers buildings each local data and, second, that the creation of new users are automatically perform both the controllers like to the Master .
Thanks. As noted earlier, it is not advisable to use the root user to log in for normal use. New users and groups can be created by navigating to Administration > Users, Roles & AAA as shown in the preceding figures. It would help to chalk out what are the various levels at which you want to distribute the users, and to create those roles first. It doesn’t really matter whether you create users or groups first. New users can be easily added by going to Administration > Users, Roles & AAA > Users > Add Users > Select “Add Users” from the drop-down on the right side. Once you get into the add user workflow, fill in the username, password, and local authorization for this user as shown in the figure below.
A virtual domain can also be assigned to the users when you define their roles by selecting the virtual domain on the left side and moving it to the right side as shown in the image below (left).
