Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 OVA - URL/FTP not working

The ESXi install of the theNCS  OVA was successful. NCS seems to load and activate interfaces. The console session is working. Using compliant browsers; https://<ip address> does not work. When I stop "ncs" or halt the vm the web page responds shortly but then the connection is lost.  I used "show ports" and tried https://<ip address>/8082 and get a login from the Cisco Prime Infrastructure Health Monitor URL. There is a prompt for the authorization key. How can I confirm the installation is complte and all services are up and running
Thanks
Terry

After digging almost 1 month, I found the answer.
When you do provision from ESXi with ova file, you have to create "Thick Provision" otherwise, you wiil have same problem such as "some services are not up"
In my case, I am running ESXi on the top of VM WorkStation since I don't have any ESXi server. When I added 250GB into the WorkStation and did provision with "Thick" it works !!!
Since my testing envrionment is little complicated (ESXi with VM WorkStation), I added first 250GB HDD into ESXi, and tried. It didn't work. So I added 250GB into VM WorkStation and did provision through Workstation, it worked (If you don't understand this statements, do not worry. If you have ESXi server, you don't need to worry about)
As far as cisco ova is concerned, when I talked to one of my my friend who was working for new ACS (Virtual Appliance) he had same issue. He also solved with "Thick Provision"
FYI, even if when I installed with "Thin Provision", PI 1.2 used only 10GB out of 200GB, so I did not think that I should use "Think Provision". But definitely not.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 - TFTP backup WLC not working

    I don;t get the the background task "Controller Configuration Backup" working. I want to use default TFTP.
    When i look in the logging i see 2 of three WLC's succesfully backuped there logging. Is their a log file where you can see what is happening?
    With kind regards,
    Martijn.

    Hi Martijn:
    If you go to the controller's GUI to Commands > Upload File and manually trigger the TFTP Configuration backup, does the process complete as expected?  If not, whatever's causing that problem needs to be addressed first.
    When someone wants to do a config backup from the command line, they give a series of commands
    transfer download datatype config
    transfer download mode tftp
    transfer download serverip x.x.x.x
    transfer download path ./
    transfer download filename myBackup.cfg
    transfer download start
    The Controller Config Backup background task is just the SNMP version of "transfer download filename " and "transfer download start".  If these other required settings aren't already there, the task isn't going to set them (the humans have to).  If there's a problem with writing out the file on the server, or packet routing issues to get to the server, the task isn't going to see those things, it just knows that the answer to "transfer download start" wasn't "Okay!"
    As for watching this processing in logs, go to Administration > Logging, and set the logging level to Trace for the modules SNMP and System, and click Save.  Then kick off your backup attempt, allowing it to fail.  When it does, return to Administration > Logging, and click the Download button to retrieve the logs.zip file.  The activity should be in the ncs-x-x.log file.
    If you don't have the new Update-1 patch for Prime Infrastructure 1.3.0.20 (filename PI_1.3.0.20_Update_1-12.tar.gz) installed, I'd suggest you get it.  While it's not going to specifically address this issue, there are a lot of really good fixes in it.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 OVA not found

    Hi all,
    I want to download Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 OVA but I can't find it, there is just  "Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Plug and Play for Virtual Appliance " . Is this the right OVA ?
    Thanks for your help
    BR
    Aaziz

    Hi Aaziz,
    Unfortunately this download of this file is not available anymore on cisco.com site.
    As an alternative, you can download PI 1.3 OVA, where you can find the same features and
    interface:
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284652876&softwareid=284272932&relea
    se=1.3&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=all
    Note:  you can use the same license of PI 1.2 on PI 1.3

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.4 SNMP Traps are not converted into Alarms

    Hi everybody,
    I just configured SNMP Traps on a Cisco Catalyst 3750-x to send to our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.4 Appliance.
    Now I forced the Switch to send some traps (Power off a Power Supply, Interface errdisable). The only events I see in Alarms & Events on PI is the same information message everytime:
    Configuration management event has been recorded in ccmHistoryEventTable.
    I think the forced traps should be converted into alarms? Why can't I see them?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    Ok, I started debugging as you said. I get the following output:
    Mar 13 09:28:13.711: SNMP: V2 Trap, reqid 11689, errstat 0, erridx 0
     sysUpTime.0 = 198609846
     snmpTrapOID.0 = ciscoSyslogMIB.2.0.1
     clogHistoryEntry.2.1688 = PM
     clogHistoryEntry.3.1688 = 5
     clogHistoryEntry.4.1688 = ERR_RECOVER
     clogHistoryEntry.5.1688 = Attempting to recover from bpduguard err-disable state on Gi1/0/13
     clogHistoryEntry.6.1688 = 198609844
    Mar 13 09:28:13.737: SNMP: Queuing packet to xx.xx.xx.xx
    Looks like the Switch is sending SNMP Traps from the ciscoSyslogMIB. Is this why PI can't show the Traps and convert it into a alarm?
    After this test I configured logging (syslog) to the PI. Now the errors are showed but still not converted into alarms. I just want to be notified by email when such errors occurs.
    Thanks,
    Marc

  • Consultations on Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2

    I recently installed Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 and I have 2 questions regarding configuration:
    1. What configurations should run for vulnerability when some event occurs on a switch an alarm is lifted in the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2?
    2. Is there any way to put a device into maintenance mode in the web interface of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2, so that can not be spoiled reports regarding equipment availability during the execution of maintenance?

    1. If you configure PI as an SNMP and syslog server for your devices and have enabled logging traps etc., PI's alarm browser will show the alarms. If you want them to be sent to you via email, you can do that under the Admin menu for setting up your Mail server and clicking the link to "Configure email notification for individual alarm categories." (see below - open in new tab to zoom). It's not completely customizable but what you see there is the current product capabilities in that regard.
    2. No, this is not currently an available feature in PI 2.2.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Express OVA failing to boot up

    Hi all, i'm wondering if you can help me, i'm trying to deploy Cisco Prime Infrastructure in a lab envrionment but it's not working correctly.
    I've deployed "PI-VA-2.1.0.0.87-Express.ova" to a VMware ESXI 5.1U2 hypervisor with 2x AMD 8128HE CPUs, 96GB RAM, ASUS KGPE-D16 motherboard. The installation works fine, I can answer all the questions and enter the IP address. Once the system reboots, it hangs at the following screen:
    "Kernel direct mapping tables up to 340000000 @ 10000-1c000" is the last thing I see
    Interestingly at this point I can actually ping the VM... I cant connect to the managemnet console on HTTPS though :(
    I did find some related info on a blog https://deekayen.net/kernel-alive-lock which mentions booting with "noapic", however when I try to press "P" on the grub boot loader it prompts me to enter a password which I dont know! My normal admin passwords arent working.
    Any help to ge tthis running would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Ben

    The server takes about 30 mins to boot up, it's not actually broken it's just extremely slow .. I have found numerous people reporting this issue online, and our production system also does this! I guess my original problem is solved, although I would prefer this issue not to exist!

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 - Remote FTPrepository Sizing Guide

    Can anyone provide a link to a sizing guide for remote FTP repository for backing up Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 to a remote FTP server?

    A personal observation; In PI 1.1, with the small ova we were running around 300 AP's and I had noticable slowness and issues.  At that time, TAC mentioned that I should go with the medium as it was a known problem  Now, despite being on 1.2 and alot of the issues resolved (and now new ones), if faced with the need to start over and I could spare the hardware, I would still go with the medium.   My personal opinion is that Cisco VM's require way to much.  On the other hand, knowing that it's relying on a built in Oracle DB, which from my experience with virtual servers, databases in VM = bad, it's understandable.  Not everyone agrees with this point from vm gurus to db geniuses, and I'm not a professional vm guy, just play one on tv, but personally i shove as much hardware as I can afford from my host at it if it's a db in a vm.  This comes from being in an enterprise with multiple oracle db's in multiple vm environments.  My 2cents.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 Rest API XML does not add LF

    I am using several scripts that dig the data from XML files created through Cisco Prime Infrastructure Rest API. It worked fine until 2.1. Now, with 2.2, seems Cisco stopped adding LF to each line and everything is 'one' line.
    Here is an example with 2.1, there is a LF to the end of each line:
    ?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

    Does anyone know, is this intentional or a mistake? Or is there a way how I control this?
    I am reading on-line CPI Rest API docs, but seems cannot find anything.
    Thanks,
    Vlad

    PI 2.0 is in Beta mode for testing in closed group already. However it may still take some time to get released on CCO for FCS.
    I think it is expected to be released between aug-sep. BU has also started working on CPI 2.1, which you can see test uploads on CCO.
    For what does it have for customers?
    > As Cisco have a vision of one network Management software for both wired and wireless infrastructure, which started getting real partially with Cisco PI.
    As WCS got evolved to NCS and eventually to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, but it doesnt yet have full Management capability for wired infra., which is there with LMS.
    With CPI 2.x Cisco plans to blend entire LMS and WCS features together.
    -Thanks

    NetFlow export is also supported on other Cisco switches when using a NetFlow Feature Card (NFFC) or NFFC II and the Route Switch Module (RSM), or Route Switch Feature Card (RSFC). However, check whether version 5 is supported, as most switches export version 7 by default.
    You can check the below steps to diagnose the issue::
     To verify that NetFlow is exported from a device to PI, follow the steps below:
    1)    Browse to Administration > Data Sources page. Check the value in column ‘Last Active Time’  for the ‘Device Data Sources’ table. If the table is empty or  the value does not represent recent time, then
    it is possible that the device is not exporting NetFlow or PI Assurance license is not applied / expired.
    2)    Login to PI console ( via SSH) as root user and run the command:
                    netstat –an | grep 9991 – Output of this should be like :  udp        0      0 :::9991         :::*
                    Check the firewall settings on PI server using the command: firewall -L
    1)    Check the configuration on an IOS / IOS –XE device. Run the commands
    a)    sh running-config | inc destination
    1)    This should list the IP address of the PI SERVER ( along with other outputs if any)
    b)    sh running-config | inc 9991
    1)    This should list at least one entry.
    c)    If the above are fine, then verify that the flow monitor, flow exporter and the flow records are correctly configured on the device.
    Refer to the URLs below to configure NetFlow export.

  • LMS 4.1 (Windows) & NCS 1.1 (VM) Upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Hi All,
    Im getting a bit confused about the whole upgrade migration process for the following config to Cisco Prime Infrastructure:
    LMS - Version 4.1 , 500 devices. Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1
    NCS – version 1.1 , 50 devices  Red Hat Linux ( 64 Bit)  (Installation software - NCS-VA-1.0.1.4-small.ova)
    I want to be able to backup databases and migrate licensing from LMS and NCS to one platform. Does anyone have experience of this and could possible guide me thorugh this process. LMS has SAS and NCS has SAU.
    Help will be very much appreciated!!

    It's a couple of steps but can be done. You may want to reconsider getting off of LMS since the latest Prime Infrastructure (PI 1.2) does not have full feature compatibility with the latest LMS (4.2.3). Have a look here for the comparison.
    If you still want to do it:
    1. Upgrade your NCS to PI 1.2 (instructions). If you're going with a total of 550 devices on a combined license you should use the medium ova file to get the correct server resource allocation. You will need to get the new license from the TAC or via the licensing portal. I'm not sure if you can get the PI license for your LMS upgrade directly via the portal but you do have the entitlement for LMS 4.2 and PI 1.2 (combined licenses not to exceed the original LMS number) if your SAS is current. You may need to contact the TAC and ask for the licensing team.
    2. Upgrade your LMS to 4.2 and patch it to 4.2.2 (instructions). Once you've done that, there is a simple menu command to export your device credentials to Prime (Admin, System, Export Data to PI in LMS and then Operation, Device Work Center, Bulk Import in PI - instruction on Page 18 here). Do that and then in the new PI installation import the devices.
    Verify everything is working and you can decommission the LMS server.

  • Software images Cisco Prime Infrastructure

    Hi,
    I have Cisco Prime infrastructure 2.0 and all it works ok except when i try to get software image from device. I don´t see any device, so i can´t select any device and I get "RSL error".
    When i try to access "Operate" > "Configuration Archives", i get the same error.
    The machine from where I navigate has last "flash player" version and it has all requeriments.
    Which can be the problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi!
    I have experience the same problem under different tools in PI. I did notice it first under “Deploy>Monitoring deployment>Interface Health template>deploy and I get the 2032 error.
    I have learn that this occurs when you use a client with no internet connection and you try to start above deployment tools.
    What happens is that when you try to open such page in PI web interface, the flash player starts and try to get some files on the PI but the URL it get from the PI application points to a library that do not contains the file (Bug in PI?). The files the flash player looks for is called something like framework_4.5.1.21328.swz and spark_4.5.1.21328.swz and so on. The url from PI looks like https://PI_Server/webacs/applications/SAMDeployTemplate/js/framework_4.5.1.21328.swz but the file is missing.
    The flash player have a backup way to get the xxxxxx.swz files it needs. If it can’t find the files in the application, it try to get it from Adobe http://fpdownload.adobe.com . But in my case my client can’t access internet so I get the error 2032.
    I have another installation at another site that allows internet access everything works fine. The flash player can load the files it needs and store them locally on the client PC. Then I can take that PC back to the another site with no internet access where I did get the 2032 error and now It works fine because the flash player have the files it needs to handle the PI application.
    I have a case open and it has not been solved yet.

  • Trouble With Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3

    Hi,
    I have installed the Evaluation Version Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.
    There are a few problems that i am facing;
    I am trying to push a simple configuration to WLC using Prime Infrastructure. But it is failing as PI doesnot have RW SNMP access.
    My question is that can I use PI to push configs without using SNMP. Like do it using ftp or something.
    Also do the Wired Devices also need SNMP RW access on PI's part.
    2. I tried running discovery for WLC and it worked fine where all the controllers were discovered. But when I try to discover a Switch, the reachability tab says Reachable but in Collection Status tab it shows Unmanaged. When I click on the Unmanaged tab it says " Pre-collection check failed because: ". I have configured the SNMP correctly.
    3. I have the CAD files for all the maps in our environment but when I try to upload it to Prime it converts it into GIF, so the maps are uploaded as plain image with no knowledge of walls and obstacles.
    So we would have to add the walls and obstacles by ourselves. Is there any way it can automatically pick up on the walls and obstacles and thus provide a better way for predicting RF profiles.
    All your help is greatly appreciated.

    TAC Case! Sounds like a bug to me...
