Cisco Router 12406 MPLS physical interface problem!

I want to monitor a router interface with a NMS program, but i can't collect the data from this interface.
I was trying with:
snmpwalk  -v2c -c community 10.100.xxx.xx 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.19 the result was that is missing the oid named ifOutDiscards for the interface that i want to monitor.
How can i fix this problem?

Hello Flo,
what kind of interface is this ? is it a POS Sonet/SDH interface?
my guess is that ifOutDiscards may be related to LAN type interfaces
"The number of outbound packets which were chosen to be
discarded even though no errors had been detected to prevent
their being transmitted.  One possible reason for discarding
such a packet could be to free up buffer space.
Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at
re-initialization of the management system, and at other
times as indicated by the value of
ifCounterDiscontinuityTime."
Actually from description it looks like the variable should apply also to POS interfaces

To perform some testing in an agent I am building, I need a MIB walk for a router with MPLS enabled interfaces. I would greatly appreciate help with this MIB walk

You can do a walk-through of the MIB by running a command such as getmany -v2c public mplsLsrMIB . For detailed instructions refer http://cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2t/12_2t2/feature/guide/lsrmibt.html.

    Hi David Castro,
    Thanks for your answer,
I configed following your guide, but it have not worked yet. I saw that I cannot ping IP gateway Internet . I using ADSL Internet and config PPPoE  and my router receive IP from ISP. Here show ip int brief :

  • The difference between IEEE802.1Q Native VLAN sub-interface and Physical interface?

    Hello
I think the following topologies are supported for Cisco Routers
And the Physical interface also can be using as Native VLAN interface right?
    Topology 1.
     R1 Gi0.1 ------ IEEE802.1Q Tunneling  L2SW ------ Gi0 R2
    R1 - configuration
    interface GigabitEthernet0.1
     encapsulation dot1Q 1 native
     ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
    Topology 2.
    R1 Gi0 ------ IEEE802.1Q Tunneling L2SW ------ Gi0 R2
    interface GigabitEthernet0
    ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
And is it ok to use the physical interface and sub-interface with dynamic routing such as EIGRP or OSPF etc?
    R1 Gi 0 ---- Point to Multipoint EIGRP or OSPF ---- Gi0 R2 / R3
Gi 0.20--- Point to Point EIGRP or OSPF --- Gi0.10 R4  (same VLAN-ID)
    R1 - configuration
    interface GigabitEthernet0
     ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
    interface GigabitEthernet8.20
     encapsulation dot1Q 20
     ip address 20.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
Any information is very appreciated. but if there is any CCO document please let me know.
Thank you very much and regards,
    Masanobu Hiyoshi

    Hello,
    The diagram is helpful.
If I am getting you correctly, you have three routers interconnected by a switch, and you want them to operate in a hub-and-spoke fashion even though the switch is capable of allowing direct communication between any of these routers.
Your first scenario is concerned with all three routers being in the same VLAN, and by using neighbor commands, you force these routers to establish targeted EIGRP adjacencies R1-R2 and R1-R3, with R1 being the hub.
Your second scenario is concerned with creating one VLAN per spoke, having subinterfaces for each spoke VLAN created on R1 as the router, and putting each spoke just in its own VLAN.
Your scenarios are not really concerned with the concept of native VLAN or the way it is configured, to be honest. Whether you use a native VLAN in either of your scenarios, or whether you configure the native VLAN on a subinterface or on the physical interface makes no difference. There is simply no difference to using or not using a native VLAN in any of your scenarios, and there is no difference to the native VLAN configuration being placed on a physical interface or a subinterface. It's as plain as that. Both your scenarios will work.
My personal opinion, though, is that forcing routers on a broadcast multi-access segment such as Ethernet to operate in a hub-and-spoke fashion is somewhat artificial. Why would you want to do this? Both scenarios have drawbacks: in the first scenario, you need to add a neighbor statement for each spoke to the hub, limiting the scalability. In the second scenario, you waste VLANs and IP subnets if there are many spokes. The primary question is, though: why would you want an Ethernet segment to operate as a hub-and-spoke network? Sure, these things are done but they are motivated by specific needs so I would like to know if you have any.
Even if you needed your network to operate in a hub-and-spoke mode, there are more efficient means of achieving that: Cisco switches support so-called protected ports that are prevented from talking to each other. By configuring the switch ports to spokes as protected, you will prevent the spokes from seeing each other. You would not need, then, to configure static neighbors in EIGRP, or to waste VLANs for individual spokes. What you would need to do would be deactivating the split horizon on R1's interface, and using the ip next-hop-self eigrp command on R1 to tweak the next hop information to point to R1 so that the spokes do not attempt to route packets to each other directly but rather route them over R1.
I do not believe I have seen any special CCO documents regarding the use of physical interfaces or subinterfaces for native VLAN or for your scenarios.
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • Do gatekeepers need a dedicated physical interface

I recently took control of a network that has several h323 vtc endpoints registered to a gatekeeper.
The 3700 router that is the gatekeeper has a physical interface that appears to only exist to be the IP address of the gatekeeper. The 3700 router has other physical interfaces such as the serial interface to the WAN plus the gateway interface for the LAN.
The 10/100 interface with the gatekeeper IP address has no other configuration besides the "ip address" command. It is also physically connected to the switch.
All the gatekeeper unique configs are in the gatekeeper config on the 3700.
Do I really need to dedicate a physical interface so be the gatekeeper? Can I usa loopback interface or use my gateway ip address?
    Thank you.

We've redeployed out gatekeeper using /32 loop back interfaces.  We have 2 routers each with a /32 loop back.  Then we have 1 gatekeeper on each router configred in a cluster with each other.  It works great.   Now we can use that physical interface for something else and we have redundancy.
    Thanks for the input.

  • DMVPN & GRE over IPsec on the same physical interface

    Dear All,
I'm configuring two WAN routers, each wan router has one physical interface connecting to branches and regional office using same provider.
We'll be using GRE over IPsec to connect to regional office and DMVPN + EIGRP to branches.
I would like to know if it's possible to configure tunnels for GRE over IPsec and DMVPN + EIGRP using the same source physical interface.
Kindly reply, it's an urgent request and your response is highly appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hi Savio,
It should work. we can configure dmvpn and gre-over-ipsec on ASA using same physical interface.

  • MPLS Customer router physical interface

My provider wants to sell me MPLS services but I can't seem to get a straight answer regarding what the physical interface on my customer router needs to be.  Some personnel tell me it will be a normal ethernet connection, other say it'll be a DS3 or T1 connection depending on the speed.
Please give me some advice on what to expect regarding an MPLS circuit?  Or point me to some good documentation to maybe I can communicate better with the service provider.
    Thank you.

    Hi Tod
Few points from my side for your query
Access Link should be considered based on whether we are going for MPLS L3 VPN or MPLS L2 VPN Soilution
MPLS L3 VPN from my understanding is independent of Access Media but the Access Media will definitely put different hardware requirements for your Customer Edge Router
The Access Link Type and Bandwidth would vary depending upon the BW requirements for the network. The T1/T3 or a Subrate T3 Access Links would be a choice when we have BW requirements in that range(<45 Megs)
Using FE as an Acces link would require SP to provide Colocation Services or rather go for spanning a Fiber out from their Colo and deploying Optical Mux at Customer Premises and again suitable for BW requirements more than 45 Megs
    MPLS L2 VPN
Ethernet is the choice for taking MPLS L2 VPN Services to connect your different branches in a point-to-multipoint fashion using VPLS at SP end.
You can go through the Cisco Doc - "Layer 3 MPLS VPN Enterprise Consumer Guide" which should help you gain more insight for choosing the PE-CE Routing Protocol and other points to consider for an MPLS L3 VPN Service.
Thats from my understanding. Hope you will get more good advises on this.

  • Administration of ASA5520 and cisco router mpls 1900

can some tell me as admin what to check as u get into office /reguraly in cisco asa 5520 and vpn mpls router for administrator ,right now its working as configured by supplier for remote sites to connect HQ and access several server
My interest to know what are the basic day to day checkup on cisco asa5520 working as ips and cisco asa 5520 working as content filtering and cisco vpn mpls
thx ,attached pic for ur view
    J

    Hello Malai,
This question is subjective, I mean you can check the statistics on the CSC module for logs of the users going to blacklisted sites.
You can check the CPU for the ASA's and IPS.
You can monitor the amount of traffic traversing the interfaces of the ASA, you can determine witch host is using most of the bandwith, etc.
    Its pretty basic administration stuff

  • Not able to telnet or ssh to outside interface of ASA and Cisco Router

    Dear All
Please help me with following question, I have set up testing lab, but still not work.
it is Hub and spoke site to site vpn case, connection between hub and spoke is metro-E, so we are using private ip for outside interface at each site.
    Hub -- Juniper SRX
Spoke One - Cisco ASA with version 9.1(5)
spoke two - Cisco router with version 12.3
site to site vpn has been successful established. Customer would like to telnet/ssh to spoke's outside ip from Hub(using Hub's outside interface as source for telnet/ssh), or vise versa. Reason for setting up like this is they wants to be able to make configuration change even when site to site vpn is down. Sound like a easy job to do, I tried for a long time, search this forum and google too, but still not work.
Now I can successfully telnet/ssh to Hub SRX's outside interface from spoke (ASA has no telnet/ssh client, tested using Cisco router).
Anyone has ever done it before, please help to share your exp. Does Cisco ASA or router even support it?
When I tested it, of cause site to site vpn still up and running.
    Thanks
    YK

    Hello YK,
On this case on the ASA, you should have the following:
CConfiguring Management Access Over a VPN Tunnel
If your VPN tunnel terminates on one interface, but you want to manage the ASA by accessing a different interface, you can identify that interface as a management-access interface. For example, if you enter the ASA from the outside interface, this feature lets you connect to the inside interface using ASDM, SSH, Telnet, or SNMP; or you can ping the inside interface when entering from the outside interface. Management access is available via the following VPN tunnel types: IPsec clients, IPsec LAN-to-LAN, and the AnyConnect SSL VPN client.
To specify an interface as a mangement-only interface, enter the following command:
    hostname(config)# management access management_interface
where management_interface specifies the name of the management interface you want to access when entering the security appliance from another interface.
You can define only one management-access interface
Also make sure you have the pertinent configuration for SSH, telnet, ASDM and SNMP(if required), for a quick test you can enable on your lab Test:
      SSH
    - ssh 0 0 outside
    - aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
    - Make sure you have a default RSA key, or create a new one either ways, with this command:
*crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048
    Telnet
    - telnet 0 0 outside
    - aaa authentication telnet console LOCAL
Afterwards, if this works you can define the subnets that should be permitted.
    On the router:
!--- Step 1: Configure the hostname if you have not previously done so.
    hostname Router
!--- aaa new-model causes the local username and password on the router
!--- to be used in the absence of other AAA statements.
    aaa new-model
    username cisco password 0 cisco
!--- Step 2: Configure the router's DNS domain.
    ip domain-name yourdomain.com
!--- Step 3: Generate an SSH key to be used with SSH.
    crypto key generate rsa
    ip ssh time-out 60
    ip ssh authentication-retries 3
!--- Step 4: By default the vtys' transport is Telnet. In this case,
!--- Telnet and SSH is supported with transport input all
    line vty 0 4
    transport input All
*!--- Instead of aaa new-model, the login local command may be used.
    no aaa new-model
    line vty 0 4
      login local
Let me know how it works out!

basically one for the Router itself and then some for the devices behind the router, Which i am sure I need to apply some 1 to 1 NATs. I just do not know if i need to specify all the IP addresses on the main interface.
Example being I have a router with WAN ip of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/25 , it only has 2 interface one for WAN one for LAN, i have a server I would like assigned its own public IP address.  but still on the same LAN network.
Could someone help me out and point me in the right direction with a sample config

I agree with the previous response that you need a static NAT to allow outside resources to initiate traffic to your server. You also will need NAT or PAT using the router interface address to allow the other hosts in your network to access outside.
You do not need to configure any other of the addresses on the router interface other than the primary IP that you assign to the router interface. As long as the other addresses are used for NAT/PAT they are configured in the nat statements and not on the physical interface.

  • Problems connecting to a Open Network via Wi-fi on Cisco Router

Hi everyone, I know I'm new here but I'm in need of your help, so if you can assist please do so as I cannot live without wi-fi and might have to go back to my nokia again if I can't sort this out.
Vodafone finally released the Iphone on their network in Ireland today and I've picked a 3gs up straight away.
At work I have a wi-fi network with a CISCO router (I have no access to the router as only IT do and they won't change anything to satisfy me and my Iphone anyways). This network has no encryption whatsoever and its free to join, you don't need any password or anything. My nokia at the start couldn't connect as it said that the network needed a pre shared key, this isn't true and in the end it was just change a setting to no auth required for it to log into the network and work perfectly.
Today I got to work and the Iphone can't connect to the network, just says it can't join the network. I cannot find anything about authentication on the settings of the phone nor can I work around this at all. I've had a Ipod touch for (the 2nd gen) for over 2 years and I gave up trying to set it up at work because I just couldn't find what was wrong with it, I ended up almost not using it other than when traveling or on the gym.
So first question is there any way I can access the authentication settings for wi-fi connections on the Iphone? Maybe its just a little change that is needed like the nokia.
Has anyone experienced this problem on a open network that they cannot join?
    Any other sugestions? Anything really?
Thank you very much for your time guys, I would really really appreciate your help on this.
    Regards,
    Rod
PS: I've also tried to install the Iphone configuration utility however I don't know how to access the profiles on the phone, anyone can help with this so I can try the profile I've created?
I don't think it is going to work because the options available on the configuration utility are basicly the same available on the Iphone itself.
Anyone has any sugestion on how to solve this problem??? Thanks very much.

This is what I get on the Iphone configuration utility debug console. I edited out just a couple of numbers in case this is sensitive information the company wouldn't want me to share.

  • How to create custom GUI interface for Cisco router?

                       Hello,
I am working on a Cisco solution and I have my router configured for the solution I need. However, if a non-cisco person needs to use my solution then I think he will need a GUI interface which will have few "buttons" which when clicked will run some Cisco commands on Cisco router to make it work. Is there a way to design such GUI interface which is compatible with Cisco routers? I know Cisco has SDM, but that is too involved and detailed, which is useful only for people who know atleast a little bit about Cisco. Here I am looking at crowd who will have 0 knowledge of Cisco.
Please let me know if something like this can be done. If yes, how and how easily?
    Thank you.

There are lots of ways to do this - you can use SNMP or even HTTP to push or pull commands from Cisco devices. How easy it is to create a GUI depends on your programming skills. I would guess a simple web page triggering backend scripts would be the easiest way to do this.

  • Cisco router interface threshold

    Hello,
I have a question about getting threshold information out of a specific interface. I have a customer with DSL on a cisco 887 router.
This customer has 2 different pvc's on the ATM0 interface, 2 dialer's (1 for voice, one for data) 2 vlan's (1 for voice, one for data).
What I would like is that the cisco router wil send me a message that only the voice dialer or voice vlan has exceeded it's threshold limit.
I can configure this with the "rmon alarm" command, but then it isn't specific for the voice dialer, it gives me info on both the dialers.
I also tried it with SNMP traps, but this isn't "real-time"
Does anyone know if there is a different solution to solve this?

    Sorry, small mistake :-)
    Heres my configuration:
    event manager applet int-rate-test
     event interface name Dialer1 parameter receive_rate_bps entry-op gt entry-val 110000 entry-type rate exit-op lt exit-val 50000 exit-type rate average-factor 1 poll-interval 1

  • WLAN - Probleme bei Cisco Router WRVS4400N-EU

    Hallo,
