Cisco WLSE

Hi,
I am having problem configuring (managing) two devices with Cisco WLSE, after importing the file with AP IP address I get CDP Discovery completed, but I also get Number of devices (re)discovered 0.
For all AP that I am able to configure(manage) I get Number of devices (re)discovered 1.
And even if I want to find the AP that can't be configured by it's IP address - I always get "Search yielded no results"
Could someone help me with this please?

Dear all, my customer has CWWLSE-1030-K9 Cisco WLSE Wireless LAN Solution EE 2.13 with 12 AP1242 (a/b/g) Radio 802.11g in place. Now he will buy additional AP what type of AP can i use because AP 12xx is EOS.

    Hello Dirk,
AP 1200 is EOS, and customers were encouraged to migrate to 1240 Series (which is also EOS now)
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1200-series/eol_c51-506611.html
Therefore it is recommended to migrate to Cisco Aironet 1600 or Cisco Aironet 2600 Series.

  • Cisco WLSE 1130 won't power on.

I have a WLSE 1130 that the previous admin had just sitting on a shelf not being used, in fact, I don't think it's ever been used. I had powered it on to give it a basic config, IP, ect. and I issued the shutdown command and powered it off. Now, when I plug AC back into it, it won't power on. The power supply fan kicks on and the power LED blinks at about 2 second intervals. Is it in a security mode or did I power it down wrong? Any help would be great. Thanks!

  • Wireless LAN Management - Cisco 1130 WLSE Error.

    Hello,
I'm tearing my hair out over a Cisco WLSE 1130, I recently purchased it and I'm trying to run the Recovery CD.
I've downloaded the 2.15 Recovery CD ISO image from Cisco and created a working CD
I've run into a wall with the Recovery CD - the WLSE begins to boot from it, but will stop almost immediately in a LINUX loading screen like this:
    Loading initrd.lmg..............ok
    Loading vminuz..................ready.
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
I tried downloading the different ISO version image again, with the same result.
When I logged onto the console port at the back after series of messages, I get the following result.
    --------------- ME1110 Maintenance Image -----------------
    INIT: Entering runlevel: 1
bash: no job conEXT2-fs warning: checktime reached, running e2fsck is recommended
    trol in this shell
    CDROM is hde
Partitioning the drive: size = 78150744.
Error: Version infomation not found in flash.
    flushing ide devices:
    hda hde
    Restarting system.
And then it just hangs there instead.
Has anyone had these kinds of problems before and how did they get round them?
I'm under the impression that the Recovery CD has a full HD image of the WLSE - it rewrites everything on the WLSE hard disk, including the filesystem, partitions and the LINUX OS, not just the Cisco bits on top of those?
Is there a limit to what version of the OS a WLSE 1030 can run (the 2.1.15 CD won't load because of this?)?
Is there another way to get into the recovery image?
Is there a ghost image or something of a virgin WLSE server hard drive somewhere, to reimage the WSLE HDD offline?
    Is my WLSE toast?
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    AB

That error message is recoverable by two things, try them in the following order:
    1. Burn a new iso CD with a slower speed (no more than 4x).
    2. Open a TAC case for a Replacement Unit (RMA)

  • WAP is not authenticated to WLSE?

    Hello,
I'm trying to set up WDS with 2 Cisco 1130 WAP, 1 ACS (V3.3) and Cisco WLSE.
I got everything working except for connecting WDS access point to WLSE.
I put WLSE's ip address in WNM global configuration but I see this access point constantly generating error messages saying 'Not authenticated'.
WLSE had this devide under 'Managed Devices' but does it need additional configuration to talk to WDS access point?
Thanks for your help in advance.

I believe you are seeing this bug:
    http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/onebug.pl?bugid=CSCsb47726&Submit=Search
There is not a very good workaround. You can downgrade ACS to 3.3.2 or run local authentication on the AP for WDS.
What you will see if you debug radius on the WDS primary are access-request and access-challenge but never an access-accept.

  • WLSE version 21.5u upgrade and problem thereafter

Cisco WLSE Wireless Lan Solution Engine was recently upgraded to release 2.15u. Following the upgrade, the device seems to shut itself down after approximately 30 - 40 minutes of uptime.
This has occurred three times in 24 hours
I have all the install logs, fault logs, etc. but I cannot post them here.
I need some tips on what I need to look at in these logs for troubleshooting this problem.

When this issue occurs, ensure these events are properly handled:
The hostname of the certificate must exactly match the hostname used to access the device.
    Pop-up blockers must be disabled.
The WLSE requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 and Java Plug-in 1.4.2 or later.
An upgrade must not be done without its correspondent patch.

  • Cisco Aironet 1242AG Setup

Hi,  We have a network on an oil rig offshore using a 1242AG for general internet browsing for those staying on the rig, and it works perfectly.  Now we want to expand this and I have a couple of challanges.
    1. We would like to add multiple access points but these will all have to be cabled back to a central switch due to signals being blocked preventing one access point seeing another, so not guaranteed to be able to link wirelessly from one access point ot the next.  How is this best done, is it possible to setup all access points with the same SSID so users can easily move around and be associated with the best access point, or best to configure as individual access points?
    2. Due to having access points available in living quarters, we want to avoid people leaving laptops constantly connected and using up our expensive satellite bandwidth and impacting on the use of others.  Is it possible with the 1242AG top setup a timeout period, where any connections are automatically disconnected?
This is all quite new to me so any help or comments on the above would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

You have two choices:  Autonomous or Controller-based.  With autonomous, in order for you to "enjoy" roaming, you'd need Cisco WLSE or Wireless LAN Services Engine plus you have to configure and manage each APs.  With controller-based you just configure the controller, convert the APs to LWAP (very easy) and off you go.  You can start investigating if it's financially sound to invest in a 4402 series wireless LAN controller.  If you deploy, say, 10 APs, look for the price of the WLC4402-25 to support up to 25 APs.

Not on the AP or WLC but RADIUS can.

  • WLSE display rogue Cisco AP as "Unknown Vendor"

Everybody know, WLSE display the rogue Cisco AP as "Unknown Vendor", which is not connect to the same network. Thanks

Most likely is due to corrupt AP beacon causing this to show up as Unknown vendor

  • The difference between WLSE and WLSM

    Dear All,
    In my understandings
WLSM can support layer 3 roaming
    1. For rogue AP detection, is WLSE or WLSM be the choice?
    2. Between AP and WLSM, it is FSRT, is it encryped? by Cisco proprietary?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    mak

WLSE is a Management/Monitoring application that uses the radio information from WLSM to show Radio data including Rogue AP Detection. WLSE itself/alone cannot do Rogue AP Detection

  • Best way to configure a network comprising WLSE and many APs ?

    Hi the Cisco NetPro community,
I would like to have a discussion with you on the best way to configure a network containing a WLSE and a large amount of Access Points.
The network I want to configure comprises some subnetnorks, each comprising about 10 access points (with some advanced settings for security). It might be a quite long and boring process to set the configuration for all those, so I am looking for the quickest and easiest solution to do so.
First of all, the configuration of IP addresses have to be done on each Access Point after unpacking it. The configuration of my network comprises 1 WDS active AP, 1 WDS backup AP and the rest of infrastructure APs, that for each developement site.
I thought about several solutions :
    - 1st solution could be to apply a configuration file (i.e. load the config.txt file) to each AP manually, changing some values (IP, local radius...).
But problem is that passwords can't be changed with text editor because of the passwords written in "hash".
    - 2nd solution could be to configure each AP (after IP is set) using its web interface.
No more problem for hash written passwords, but this method is quite boring when surfing on menu pages of the AP web interface...
    - 3rd solution, which could appear as the best solution, is to create a template on the WLSE, and to apply it to all APs.
No more boring connection to each AP, but problem are : we need to create as many templates as APs (or change some parameters each time), and we still need to set parameters directly to APs before (SNMP, SSH, WDS configuration...), in order the WLSE to manage the APs.
So, what do you think could be the best solution in order to deploy such a network with many APs ?
How is it possible to avoid (so far as we can) the configuration of APs one by one ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your consideration and your ideas !
    Alexis.

Well for one of my clients that had over 60 sites, we actually created a couple of templates. We created a basic template and a template for each site. You can have the ap's obtain the configuration from the WLSE, but you need to configure a DHCP option. My client did mac address reservations, but of course you need the mac address first. I guess you can also let the ap get an address and change it later. They tried doing different things, first let the ap obtain a default config and then pushing out the configuration for that site.
As for the hash, you can set the password in ascii... when you do a show run, then of cours it will be hash'd.

  • Authenticating 1300 Bridges to WLSE Express

I'm curious how I can authenticate my 1300 bridges as a client to a WLSE Express.. The WLSE Express does have a built in AAA server and i've created the usernames, but, i'm not sure where in the 1300 I can assign it to authenticate to the WLSE..
My question I guess is, do I need to point these bridges to authenticate to the Root Bridge, and configure a RADIUS association between the Root Bridge and the WLSE Express? Also, where abouts on the Non-Root bridge (or Workgroup) do I configure this?
    Any help would be appreaciated.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

Administratively Standalone - Active defines that this is the active WDS in WDS domain.
Active, backup, or candidate. If the state is backup, the command (show wlccp wds) also displays the current WDS access point's IP address, MAC address, and priority.
You can configure the WLSE 1030 internal AAA server to authenticate infrastructure APs.
