Classpath and hash Character (#)

Hi,
I have some jar files in my java classpath and it looks as if the JVM does not manage to find them when the jar file path contains a hash character (#) (java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError Exception is raised)
I haven't found anything about this in docs.
Can anyone help me ?
Thanks
Michel

Maybe not.
However, once I do not need these classes which are stored in a file path with a hash character, everything works fine.
You can experiment by yourself following this basic scenario:
1) store your famous HelloWord.class in a directory containing a hash Character (e.g. C:\tmp\te#st )
2) run your jvm as follows: java -classpath C:\tmp\te#st HelloWord
3) you should see the message
"Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: HelloWorld"
if not, tell me. I am completely wrong.
PS: Enviromment: WindowNT, sdk 1.4.0 or sdk 1.3.1

• [SOLVED] rc.xml: & ampersand and # hash break Openbox keybinding URL's

I'm trying to get a keybinding to work in Openbox's rc.xml, so that when I press W-XF86Mail it opens a Google documents spreadsheet.
rc.xml:
<keybind key="W-XF86Mail">
<action name="Execute">
<execute>firefox https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AjuCrdYnTCyacGNfX0FuRzBFUnBOalNxS0VXYjJhVUE&hl=en#gid=3</execute>
</action>
</keybind>
Other keybindings in the same file work fine. But when I reconfigure Openbox I get an error message "One or more XML syntax errors were found while parsing the Openbox configutation files...". After reconfiguration, I press W-XF86Mail and it starts Firefox but opens the wrong URL - the first bit is correct but the last bit reads ...key=0AjuCrdYnTCyacGNfX0FuRzBFUnBOalNxS0VXYjJhVUE=en instead. As you can see the last bit &hl=en#gid=3 is missing. If I delete the & ampersand then the hash # character seems to cause the same problem. Is there a problem with using the ampersand or hash characters in keybindings?

thanks for the tips, I've now got the right page to load when I type the command into the urxvt terminal. But it still doesn't work with Openbox keybindings, I edit and reconfigure but press the keys and get no response at all. I've checked and the same keybinding will successfully open other programs and webpages. Here's the keybinding in /home/username/.config/openbox/rc.xml:
<keybind key="W-XF86Mail">
<action name="Execute">
<execute>urxvt -e gdocspread</execute>
</action>
</keybind>
I've also tried <execute>urxvt -c gdocspread</execute> and simply <execute>gdocspread</execute> to no avail. However changing the same keybinding command to <execute>urxvt</execute> does open urxvt successfuly.
So the keybinding will open urxvt, and if I manually open a urxvt terminal and type gdocspread firefox starts on my desired web page. So what's the missing link?
NB: About the ampersand:
For some reason even from the terminal it won't work with the ampersand, but I discovered that I can leave that out as it just defines the language. However for future reference it would be useful to know how to put an ampersand in a URL. This is the code that does load the correct page:
home/username/.bashrc
# Check for an interactive session
[ -z "$PS1" ] && return
alias ls='ls --color=auto'
PS1='[\u@\h \W]\$ '
gdocspread() {
firefox https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AjuCrdYnTCyacGNfX0FuRzBFUnBOalNxS0VXYjJhVUE&hl=en#gid=3
Interestingly the URL etc...key=0AjuCrdYnTCyacGNfX0FuRzBFUnBOalNxS0VXYjJhVUE&hl=en#gid=3 and the URL etc...key=0AjuCrdYnTCyacGNfX0FuRzBFUnBOalNxS0VXYjJhVUE&hl=en#gid=3 won't load, the URL gets cut off at the ampersand.
Furthermore it's interesting to note that in the above configuration file /home/username/.bashrc only the ampersand causes problems, but in /home/username/openbox/rc.xml both the ampersand and the hash characters cause the URL to be cut off.

Use the default parser.
By default, WebLogic Server is configured to use the default parser and transformer to parse and transform XML documents. The default parser and transformer are those included in the JDK 5.0.
The built-in WebLogic Server DOM factory implementation class is com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl.
The DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance method returns the built-in parser.
DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();

• Classpath and manifest.mf

what is the difference between classpath, buildpath and a Manifest.mf paths?
I believe class path is used at run time to look for the classes referred in this path.
Build path is used to build the application i.e. to link the components used while compiling and building classes.
Manifest.MF is also used for runtime resolution.
What different purpose did classpath and manifest.mf serve?

If I understand you correctly, this is more of a general Java Question then a Java Servlet Question... but anyway...
The manifest.mf is defined for JARs. Your system CLASSPATH, and the classpath set on the command line are ignored for JARs, and only the CLASSPATH set in the manifest is used.
When running applications outside of JARs, then the system/command line CLASSPATH is used.
When running a web application inside a WAR, the server has its own classpath which will override that of the manifest and the system CLASSPATH.

• Classpath and property problem in services

Hi, all,
I've had a number of problems getting the Stockquote example to run properly. This seems to be due to a problem that services don't get either classpaths or properties when they start.
The first manifestation of this problem came when the proxySet, proxyHost, and proxyPort environment variables weren't getting set properly in class services.stockquote.Stockquote. The symptom was that url.openStream () timed out because the proxy was not set correctly.
The second symptom comes when"JavaPort" is used as the port on the client. Despite every attempt I've made to put services.stockquote.Stockquote on the classpath, URLClassLoader will not find this class. However, a call to Class.forName("services.stockquote.Stockquote") in Main.java, just before the bottom of the stack, works! It works in both the client and the server!
So, could someone please tell me why the classpath and properties are getting shucked, and how to get them right?
I'm on Windows 2000 :p using JDK 1.3.1 and Tomcat 4.0.
Thanks,
- Steve.

Vivek, I think this belongs in a different thread. Also you'll need to say what problems you're having.
The only thing that definitely needs to be changed about the example is that the service may fail if it's run behind a proxy server. You'll need to set the following System properties:
System.setProperty("proxySet", "true");
System.setProperty("proxyHost", "your.proxy.com");
System.setProperty("proxyPort", <your proxy port>");
If this isn't done you'll get an exception like the following:
Exception in thread "main" com.ibm.wsif.WSIFException: SOAP Fault:SOAP-ENV:Server Exception from service object: Operation timed out: connect
-S.

I must confess that I am totally unable to understand what your PATH is set to. The error that you see,
<'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.>
is due to a missing or incorrectly set PATH. It is used by Windows to find executable file (like javac.exe) that you have added to the computer. Item #5 on this page gives you instructions on how to set it: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html
As for the setting of the CLASSPATH, you seem to have a number of different versions of java (1.4.2_02, 1.4.2_01, 1.4.2_2, and 1.1.8) and I doubt that these are all valid. You are also using an unusual syntax C:\java_home\jdk1.4.2_2\bin\javadoc Fruit.java and I wonder if that is really C:\java_home\jdk1.4.2_2\bin\javadoc\Fruit.java? I think the best action is to point you to Sun's instructions and information about setting and using the CLASSPATH.
The CLASSPATH is a set of pointers that is used by Java to find the files that YOU (not Java) create and want compiled and/or run.

• Using JHS tables and hashing with salt algorithms for Weblogic security

We are going to do our first enterprise ADF/JHeadstart application. For security part, we are going to do the following:
1. We will use JHS tables as authentication for ADF security.
2. We will use JAAS as authentication and Custom as authorization.
2. We need to use JHeadStart security service screen in our application to manage users, roles and permission, instead of doing users/groups management within Weblogic.
3. We will create new Weblogic SQL Authentication Provider.
4. We will store salt with password in the database table.
5. We will use Oracle MDS.
There are some blogs online giving detail steps on how to create Weblogic SQL Authentication Provider and use JHS tables as authentication for ADF security. I am not sure about the implementation of hashing with salt algorithms, as ideally we'd like to use JHS security service screen in the application to manage users, roles and permission, not using Weblogic to do the users/groups management. We are going to try JMX client to interact with Weblogic API, looks like it is a flexiable approach. Does anybody have experience on working with JMX, SQL Authentication Provider and hashing with salt algorithms? Just want to make sure we are on the right track.
Thanks,
Sarah

To be clear, we are planning on using a JMX client at the Entity level using custom JHS entitiy classes.

• Custom classpath and custom jar entry in R12

Hi all,
I have created the custom classpath and custom jar file for isrore process. I had put custom jar and custom class entry in orien_application.xml file. But it was working on R12 at doveloper mode. It will creates the classes for custom jsp file using custom import class or custom jar. But once i revert back the devloper mode means it won't work.
Could you please help..

Oracle apps R12 - Compiling JSP with custom classpath
We all know that to compile JSP manually on the Oracle Application R12 instance, we need to run the file $FND_TOP/patch/115/bin/ojspCompile.pl.
Its help is as follows:
syntax: ./ojspCompile.pl COMMAND {ARGS}
COMMAND --compile update dependency, compile delta
--create                rebuild entire dependency file
-delta.out update dependency, list delta to file
-dep.out update dependency, output heirarchy to file
ARGS -s matching condition for JSPs filenames
-p number of parallel compilations
-log to override logfile from ojspCompile.conf
You are
recommended to set the log file location
outside of any network file system shared (NFS) area/drive.
-conf to override ojspCompile.conf
--retry retry previously failed compilation attempts
--flush forces recompilation of all parent JSPs
--quiet do not provide an actively running progress meter
--fast instantly fail jsps that are possibly invalid
example1: ojspCompile.pl compile -s 'jtf%' -p 20 retry
example2: ojspCompile.pl compile -s 'jtflogin.jsp,jtfavald.jsp' flush
example3: ojspCompile.pl compile fast --quiet
If your JSP uses custom classes, then compiling jsp manually can fail if proper classpath is not set. Yes, even though if you have setup the classpath correctly in orion-application.xml, it will fail because this jsp compile utility does not read orion-application.xml classpath.
So, the problem is to identify where to set the classpath so that above utility can pick it up. After several search and looking into code, I found following:
By default, the jsp compiler script uses following configuration file
$INST_TOP/appl/admin/ojspCompile.conf
This conf file has a classpath field in it which is usually pointed to file
$INST_TOP/appl/admin/ojspCompile.properties
This property file lists the classpath used for JSP compilation.
So if your classes are not listed in this file, your jsps will not compile by ojspCompile.
Ofcourse, you can always set the "main_mode" to "recompile" in orion-web.xml, but that for production you do not want to change it and compile the JSP on file deployment.

• Creation of Sorted and Standard and Hashed Internal Tables ..

Hi ..
Pls specify me.. how to create .. sorted ,Standard and Hashed Internal Tables...
pls give me the full code regarding ...this ..
Thnks

Standard tables
This is the most appropriate type if you are going to address the individual table entries using the index. Index access is the quickest possible access. You should fill a standard table by appending lines (ABAP APPEND statement), and read, modify and delete entries by specifying the index (INDEX option with the relevant ABAP command). The access time for a standard table increases in a linear relationship with the number of table entries. If you need key access, standard tables are particularly useful if you can fill and process the table in separate steps. For example, you could fill the table by appending entries, and then sort it. If you use the binary search option with key access, the response time is logarithmically proportional to the number of table entries.
Sorted tables
This is the most appropriate type if you need a table which is sorted as you fill it. You fill sorted tables using the INSERT statement. Entries are inserted according to the sort sequence defined through the table key. Any illegal entries are recognized as soon as you try to add them to the table. The response time for key access is logarithmically proportional to the number of table entries, since the system always uses a binary search. Sorted tables are particularly useful for partially sequential processing in a LOOP if you specify the beginning of the table key in the WHERE condition.
Hashed tables
This is the most appropriate type for any table where the main operation is key access. You cannot access a hashed table using its index. The response time for key access remains constant, regardless of the number of table entries. Like database tables, hashed tables always have a unique key. Hashed tables are useful if you want to construct and use an internal table which resembles a database table or for processing large amounts of data.
Special Features of Standard Tables
Unlike sorted tables, hashed tables, and key access to internal tables, which were only introduced in Release 4.0, standard tables already existed several releases previously. Defining a line type, table type, and tables without a header line have only been possible since Release 3.0. For this reason, there are certain features of standard tables that still exist for compatibility reasons.
Standard Tables Before Release 3.0
Before Release 3.0, internal tables all had header lines and a flat-structured line type. There were no independent table types. You could only create a table object using the OCCURS addition in the DATA statement, followed by a declaration of a flat structure:
DATA: BEGIN OF <itab> OCCURS <n>,
<fi> ...
END OF <itab>.
This statement declared an internal table <itab> with the line type defined following the OCCURS addition. Furthermore, all internal tables had header lines.
The number <n> in the OCCURS addition had the same meaning as in the INITIAL SIZE addition from Release 4.0. Entering ‘0’ had the same effect as omitting the INITIAL SIZE addition. In this case, the initial size of the table is determined by the system.
The above statement is still possible in Release 4.0, and has roughly the same function as the following statements:
TYPES: BEGIN OF <itab>,
<fi> ...,
END OF <itab>.
DATA <itab> TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF <itab>
WITH NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY
INITIAL SIZE <n>
WITH HEADER LINE.
In the original statement, no independent data type <itab> is created. Instead, the line type only exists as an attribute of the data object <itab>.
Standard Tables From Release 3.0
Since Release 3.0, it has been possible to create table types using
TYPES <t> TYPE|LIKE <linetype> OCCURS <n>.
and table objects using
DATA <itab> TYPE|LIKE <linetype> OCCURS <n> WITH HEADER LINE.
The effect of the OCCURS addition is to construct a standard table with the data type <linetype>. The line type can be any data type. The number <n> in the OCCURS addition has the same meaning as before Release 3.0. Before Release 4.0, the key of an internal table was always the default key, that is, all non-numeric fields that were not themselves internal tables.
The above statements are still possible in Release 4.0, and have the same function as the following statements:
TYPES|DATA <itab> TYPE|LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF <linetype>
WITH NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY
INITIAL SIZE <n>
WITH HEADER LINE.
They can also be replaced by the following statements:
Standard Tables From Release 4.0
When you create a standard table, you can use the following forms of the TYPES and DATA statements. The addition INITIAL SIZE is also possible in all of the statements. The addition WITH HEADER LINE is possible in the DATA statement.
Standard Table Types
Generic Standard Table Type:
TYPES <itab> TYPE|LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF <linetype>.
The table key is not defined.
Fully-Specified Standard Table Type:
TYPES <itab> TYPE|LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF <linetype>
WITH NON-UNIQUE <key>.
The key of a fully-specified standard table is always non-unique.
Standard Table Objects
Short Forms of the DATA Statement :
DATA <itab> TYPE|LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF <linetype>.
DATA <itab> TYPE|LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF <linetype>
WITH DEFAULT KEY.
Both of these DATA statements are automatically completed by the system as follows:
DATA <itab> TYPE|LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF <linetype>
WITH NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY.
The purpose of the shortened forms of the DATA statement is to keep the declaration of standard tables, which are compatible with internal tables from previous releases, as simple as possible. When you declare a standard table with reference to the above type, the system automatically adopts the default key as the table key.
Fully-Specified Standard Tables:
DATA <itab> TYPE|LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF <linetype>
WITH NON-UNIQUE <key>.
The key of a standard table is always non-unique.
Internal table objects
Internal tables are dynamic variable data objects. Like all variables, you declare them using the DATA statement. You can also declare static internal tables in procedures using the STATICS statement, and static internal tables in classes using the CLASS-DATA statement. This description is restricted to the DATA statement. However, it applies equally to the STATICS and CLASS-DATA statements.
Reference to Declared Internal Table Types
Like all other data objects, you can declare internal table objects using the LIKE or TYPE addition of the DATA statement.
DATA <itab> TYPE <type>|LIKE <obj> WITH HEADER LINE.
Here, the LIKE addition refers to an existing table object in the same program. The TYPE addition can refer to an internal type in the program declared using the TYPES statement, or a table type in the ABAP Dictionary.
You must ensure that you only refer to tables that are fully typed. Referring to generic table types (ANY TABLE, INDEX TABLE) or not specifying the key fully is not allowed (for exceptions, refer to Special Features of Standard Tables).
The optional addition WITH HEADER line declares an extra data object with the same name and line type as the internal table. This data object is known as the header line of the internal table. You use it as a work area when working with the internal table (see Using the Header Line as a Work Area). When you use internal tables with header lines, you must remember that the header line and the body of the table have the same name. If you have an internal table with header line and you want to address the body of the table, you must indicate this by placing brackets after the table name (<itab>[]). Otherwise, ABAP interprets the name as the name of the header line and not of the body of the table. You can avoid this potential confusion by using internal tables without header lines. In particular, internal tables nested in structures or other internal tables must not have a header line, since this can lead to ambiguous expressions.
TYPES VECTOR TYPE SORTED TABLE OF I WITH UNIQUE KEY TABLE LINE.
DATA: ITAB TYPE VECTOR,
JTAB LIKE ITAB WITH HEADER LINE.
MOVE ITAB TO JTAB. <- Syntax error!
MOVE ITAB TO JTAB[].
The table object ITAB is created with reference to the table type VECTOR. The table object JTAB has the same data type as ITAB. JTAB also has a header line. In the first MOVE statement, JTAB addresses the header line. Since this has the data type I, and the table type of ITAB cannot be converted into an elementary type, the MOVE statement causes a syntax error. The second MOVE statement is correct, since both operands are table objects.
plz reward if useful

• To delete first and last character of a string???

Hi Everybody !!!
Do you know a method that can permit to delete in a string the first and the last character?
For instance I have in my string this word : [the word]
I would like to delete the '[' and the ']' character.
Is exist a method that permit to delete this character?
Thanks !!!

Look at the substring method of the String class.
Note that since string is immutable, you'll need to assign the results of substring to a variable (could be the same as the original or different).

• CLASSPATH and JAVA_HOME commands (variables) aren't recognized by DOS

My command prompt doesn't recognize neither CLASSPATH nor JAVA_HOME commands...I've already set the path variable "C:\WINDOWS\System32;C:\Programs\Java\jdk1.6.0\bin", but when i'm going to set the classpath and java_home variables it says that they are not recognized as an intern or extern command etc...
Could anyone please help me?
(I'm portuguese; sorry for my english...)

you don't need to set CLASSPATH. you should learn to use -classpath option on javac.exe and java.exe when you compile and run in a command shell.
if your PATH points to Java's /bin, you probably don't need to do anything else.
the right way to set environment variables in Windows XP is in the control panel.
if you want to set them just for one shell, and have them disappear when the shell is closed, you type "set JAVA_HOME=...." and "set CLASSPATH=...".
You'll find out quickly that CLASSPATH environment variables are ignored by javac.exe, java.exe, every IDE, and every Java EE app server. You have to learn how each one sets CLASSPATH.

• Hash character

Hey guys,
I have no idea since when but I can no longer get a hash character with the ALT+3 shortcut.
I have the British keyboard so it's not a simple SHIFT+3 issue!
Please help! Any CSS coding without the ability to do this is a living nightmare!

I am not completely familiar with a "hash" but is this the character: | ?
If so, I have a key under the delete key that already has it.
