Clean Slate with MYSQL

Okay, my configuration with MYSQL is completely borked.  How do I wipe out MYSQL's configuration, databases, etc, to get a clean slate without reinstalling my entire system?

Try removing /etc/my.conf (if you messed with it at all) and /var/lib/mysql. Then reinstall mysql and that should give you a clean start.
Good luck!

  • Clean slate with a new Mac

I am in the process of purchasing a new Mac. My existing Mac is an early 2009 MacBook Pro and contains files dating back prior to OS 9 (maybe even back to OS 6). I wish to start with a clean slate with the new Mac and don’t plan on migrating files from the old computer. However, I would like to bring over my Contacts, Calendar and Mail (Accounts only, no mail history). How would I go about doing that?

Replace any Contacts, Calendar, and Mail folders with those from your old computer. Transfer the folders and also the preference files. These latter are located in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. If your Library folder isn't visible then:
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.
The Mail and Calendar folders are in the /Home/Library/ folder while Contacts is in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder, but it is called AddressBook.

  • When restarting Firefox I'd prefer a clean slate with no prior links or tabs; but Firefox proceeds too quickly for me to make that choice. There should be a Preference that would cover it.

The most common reason that I quit Firefox is because It's gotten clogged with audio or other sites, slowing my work down; and my object is to start from scratch again. I see such an option offered, when Firefox starts up again, but the 'reload' function operates too fast, and I usually lose the option. There has to be some way to prevent this from happening . . . or there SHOULD be.

I recently switched from ubuntu to Arch and I love it. However I have problems with PowerDNS running with MySQL database. When I set pdns.conf to

  • Went to "setting" deleted data from "music" to make more space (I don't use iCloud). When I open "Music", the list is still there but there is no content/the actual songs.  How can it back to a clean slate? "Setting" shows "Music" has no data.

Wanted to change my playlists and music, so went to >settings>music>delete data.  So now, within the usage menu, the "music" shows "no data".  But, when I open the Music app, it still shows the list of music that was supposedly deleted.  And the weird thing is, it is only the list. There is no content.  No actual music.  How do I get rid of this lists and get it to a clean slate???

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from iCloud backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • TIP: Clean slate for find/change

    Hi,
Sharing a little tip I just thought of. Very straightforward and
obvious, but quite useful, and I haven't noticed it mentioned elsewhere.
If you're doing a lot of find/replace, you'll repeatedly need to remove
all selections and start with a clean slate (nothing in the find/replace
    fields, clear all formatting).
It seemed to me for a while that we're missing a "Clear All" button in
    the find/replace box.
So the answer is simple: clear everything, all options, etc., and save
    it as a find/replace query.
Now whenever you need a clean slate for find/save, just select that query.
    It's working nicely for me!
    Happy new year,
    Ariel

I was going to stay out of this, but find I can't. Sometimes it seems to me that scripters see everything as being better solved through scripting.
I actually think Ariel's observation about saving a blank query is quite brilliant, and I have to agree that there are times, and plenty of users like me who don't use a KB hortcut to access find change, where users will find having the saved blank query much faster than any other method of clearing the dialog. Both methods have their place, but I find it disingenuous to say that Jongware's scriptlet "solves" the case where you want to keep the old values -- it actually complicates things as you then must remember if you are to run the KB shortcut, or use the menu, to acieve the desired result.
I think it would be far better to say that this, like many things in ID, can be accomplished in more than one way, and that they way you do it may be different at different times, and that the mehod of choice is exactly that, a choice subject to the user's own preference.

  • Installing DBI and DBD::mysql in 10.4 Tiger, with MySQL 5.0

    After some discussion here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=546982&tstart=0
I wanted to document what was required to get Bundle::DBI and DBD::mysql installed.
I started off with the helpful info found on the following two pages, but I had to do more to get it working:
    http://www.truerwords.net/articles/osx/installdbdmysql.html
    http://www.gyford.com/phil/writing/2004/06/07/installingdbia.php
Note: I am working with mysql-standard-5.0.15-osx10.4-powerpc,
downloaded and configured according to the MySQL site instructions.
If you are using an earlier version of MySQL, then you will need to adjust accordingly. The articles I link to above, may work for you verbatim.
    1. Download DBI 1.51 from CPAN:
    http://search.cpan.org/~hoymich/DBI-1.45-5.8.4/
    2. Unpack the file, eg: tar -xzvf DBI-1.51.tar.gz
    3. cd into the directory
    4. Type perl Makefile.PL
    5. Type make && make test
    6. sudo make install (NB: See below !)
    7. IMPORTANT: to get DBD to install, you may need to specify the location of your mysql_config file:
    perl Makefile.PL --testdb=test --testuser=nameused --testpassword=actualpasswdused --testhost=localhost --mysqlconfig=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqlconfig
If something goes wrong, backup by typing:
    make clean
Another note: I granted full priveleges for the "test" user on the "test" database, which is accepting local connections only and will be removed after everything is configured.
    # now for DBD
    8. Download DBD::mysql from CPAN http://search.cpan.org/~capttofu/DBD-mysql-3.0006
    9. unpack the archive & cd into it
    10. perl Makefile.PL --testdb=test --testuser=nameused --testpassword=actualpwdused --testhost=localhost
    11. make && make test
    12. sudo make install
That's what it took, hopefully this will help others who need it, and not offend those who know more about it

    Hi David!
I'm trying to help my incredibly frustrated boyfriend, who's trying to upgrade to Tiger on his 12" PB (1.3 MHz single processor).
He does a lot of web design and development, so he formatted his drive as HFS+, case-sensitive, journaled, and has installed his Adobe apps on a dmg, which works great.
BUT (and he says this is always a problem) installing DBD::mySQL is proving near-impossible! His install is failing 98% of the tests run during maketest. He thinks the problem may actually be occurring when he runs Makefile. Here's the error message he's getting, even after reading your posts:
    During Makefile.PL:
Can't exec "mysql_config": No such file or directory at Makefile.PL line 450.
Do you have any idea of a direction to point him in? He's so frustrated he can't even post to the forum - language not suitable for family viewing at this time.
    Thanks!

  • Stuck in Clean Slate, no other applications or dock available

So to tell all that happened. I was working on the computer and was having a hard time downloading a purchase on Itunes. It kept saying that disk was full etc. I asked to restart my computer (not shut down). When I did this it took forever to start back up as it had the bar across the bottom the screen like it was updating something (not sure what). When I got to the log in user, I logged in as normal.
I then got a pop up that said a program I was using was having a problem and if I like to restart new or fresh (something to that wording). My choices were cancle or ok. I hit ok, thinking that it had to do with itunes.
I then got a grey screen which opened to Clean Slate. It took awhile but I got out of clean slate. Now there is no Doc availble with my applications. Itunes won't open.  In the upper right hand corner all that shows are the clean slate app. a bowler hat and something else that refers to windows.  There is no date and time and doesn't show battery power icon or wifi.
In the left hand corner is the apple icon, and if I go to Recent items it shows everything I had before the restart. There is no dock at the bottom.
I went to prefrences and tried to set up everything how it was, but nothing will save. It shows internet connectivity but won't open a page (such as gmail) when I am on an internet browser.
I feel like I am in some other start up or something. Did I lose everything. What do I do?

The bar across the bottom, or near the bottom, of the screen when booting means the system is booting into Safe Mode.
It would seem your hard drive is Over Filled and you need to free up some space by either moving files to an external drive or just Deleting some, many.
As to your reference of Clean Slate I have no idea what that is. Never saw it on my Mac, did a google search and turned up a lot of thing called Clean Slate but nothing for Mac popped out at me.

  • Clean Slate Donations?

HI there. I am donating my 4 imacs and ibooks to my son's school, but i need to do a clean slate on the hard drives and bring them back to factory settings. How do I do this? Most are updates to 10.4.8....please advise!
    Thanks!

yes, i have the original software, but they are super old, like 10.1 and 10.2. The computers are all up to date with software updates, so to go back that far would be icky. Here's what I have done on my ibook g4, I went to the user/accounts icon on the system preferences, change the name and the password to my kids teacher's and made sure that my network preferences and imac preferences were cleared out too. Then open your hard drive off the desktop and find the Users folder in it. Open Users and rename the house icon making sure the house icon with all your personal info in it is clear if not start the process of deleting the files thru my trash can, the secured way.
    Good luck

  • Can you reload iCal and get a clean slate?

Since no one seems to know how to solve the problem of the dissapearing "to do's",(see topic: iCal "TO Do's" have stopped working properly.), is there a way to reload iCal and start over with a clean slate? I tried reloading OS 10.4.8 but iCal picked up all my old calendar entries. I'm hoping that if I can get a clean start maybe this problem might go away.

Thanks for the info. I went here earlier, and it didn't help. It seems that the Firefox profile I am using is only the one created today when I reconnected with the browser, and no old one seems available. It's history in all the compartments I go to are all today.

    Hi,
i am using the OBIEE 11G with MySQL DB. i have sucessfully created the RPD. i created the Hierarchy in the RPD. this is the scerario i have created.
i have only one data column created_at. by using this column i create 3 more logical logical columns, which are Year,Month Name,Week and created Hierarchy by taking the these columns only.
when i am viewing the result by taking the hierarchy it throwing the error systax error"ou have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version".
but we selecting the year column it successfully nagvigating to the month level data but when selecting the Hierarchy directly it is unable to navigate from year to month.
please provide me the solution for this as soon as possbile i have an urgent requirement on this.
    Thanks,
    Yogi.

    Hi,
    Thanks for you post..
My Requriement is that we no need to create new columns we need to necessary columns in BMM layer only and we need to use them in Hierarchy.
