Clean way to remove a datafile

Version : 11.2.0.2
Platform: AIX 6.1
My first post on this was moved by someone to ASM community . I removed that post and I am posting it here.
Our application tablespace ran out of space and we didn't have any free space left in our Data Filesystem. We had some space left in the Filesystem meant for Archive Logs. Since it was urgent , I added a 10gb datafile to this tablespace BUT in the file system meant for Archive logs. Next day, the sysadmins added space to our data filesystem. Now , we have enough space in data filesystem and we want move the above mentioned datafile to the filesystem meant for storing datafiles .
Currently the data file resides in Archive disk group
/ltmprod_arch/LTMPROD/cmdata07.dbfI want to drop the above datafile and add it to the Filesystem meant for data : /ltmprod_data
/ltmprod_data/LTMPROD/cmdata07.dbfWhat is the cleanest way to do this?

Removed the word Disk Group

There is no need to take the entire tablespace offline. You can take only the datafile offline, move it to the desired location, rename it through database level, recover and online the datafile.
Example:
SQL> alter database datafile 'C:\APP\SHIVANANDA.RAO\ORADATA\ORCLPM\DATAFILE\O1_MF_DUMMY_7Q3V2ZWC_.DBF' offline;
Database altered.
SQL> alter database rename file 'C:\APP\SHIVANANDA.RAO\ORADATA\ORCLPM\DATAFILE\O1_MF_DUMMY_7Q3V2ZWC_.DBF' to 'C:\app\shivananda.rao\oradata\ORCLPM\O1_MF_DUMMY_7Q3V2ZWC_.DBF';
Database altered.
SQL>
SQL> recover datafile 'C:\app\shivananda.rao\oradata\ORCLPM\O1_MF_DUMMY_7Q3V2ZWC_.DBF';
Media recovery complete.
SQL> alter database datafile 'C:\app\shivananda.rao\oradata\ORCLPM\O1_MF_DUMMY_7Q3V2ZWC_.DBF' online;
Database altered.1. Offline the datafile in old location.
2. Move it using OS command to the desired location.
3. Rename the datafile at the database level so that controlfile knows about the new file.
4. Recover the datafile at new location.
5. Online the new datafile.

  • Clean way to remove sftp.service from avahi?

    Hello,
    I'd like to use a ftp.service according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/avahi#Vsftpd instead of the sftp service.
    I did this by moving /etc/avahi/services/sftp-ssh.service away and restart avahi. That works, but something tells me that is a dirty solution. At the next avahi update, /etc/avahi/services/sftp-ssh.service will be there again, I suppose.
    So do you know a clean way of disabling sftp? I tried to find something in /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf, but didn't succeed.

    What is the rationale that the avahi package owns the /etc/avahi/services/{sftp-,}ssh.service files?
    In my opinion, avahi should not provide any service files. Only the services itself (e.g. sftp) should.
    What is missing is some configuration which services to include without changing package files that are overwritten during an update. Or is there any solution?
    My machine does not offer SFTP, therefore advertising this service is just plain wrong.
    While it might be correct that my machine provides SSH, I might not want to advertise it (not for security reasons, obviously, but just for not polluting the directory with a mere "personal" service intended just for me).

  • My daughter's data has been put on my icloud account.  I cannot hook up to the icloud wihtout getting all her info on my phone.  i would like to delete the account and start over or find a way to remove her info

    Without realizing it, my daughter and I are both using my icloud account for our phones.  Now I cannot go to the cloud without importing all of my daughter's data to my phone.  Is there any way to remove her data from the icloud account or delete the account and start over?  I plan on wiping her phone clean and having her create her own account with her own email address

    Be sure she signs out of your account before wiping her phone. Also, make sure Find my iPhone is disabled before you wipe it..
    Unfortunately, since you have "merged" her data with yours, you will need to delete each unwanted item individually. If you delete the account, when you sign back in with the same account the same data will be synched back from iCloud.

  • In the Podcasts app, is there any way to remove the list of recent podcasts that can be downloaded?

    Hi there,
    I'm wondering whether there's any way to remove all those recent podcasts (either unplayed or only partially played) listed as downloadable from the Podcasts app on the iPhone. If I'd wanted all these additional episodes on the phone, I would have put them there. I don't want them there, yet the app insists upon larding up my podcast lists with these useless episodes. Nor do I want to mark them all as "played." There's a reason some of them are only partially played and others not at all. I prefer to keep them marked that way in my master list. But I do not want them on the iPhone.
    I've tried searching online, but am not coming up with a solution. Do I have to go to some third-party app to have cleaner, tidier, and smaller lists? When I intend to carry around only three or four episodes for a given podcast, it is really REALLY annoying to have to pick through a list of forty-some-odd offerings to find the ones I want.
    I sure am hoping some techie-inclined soul has a solution for me.

    we are working on server to server APIs that will allow you to fetch data (items) from node.
    when that is available you'll be able to get the user list from the UserManager node.

  • What is the best way to remove personal data from the hard drive in preparation for selling my old Mac?

    I am going to sell or perhaps donate my old Power Mac G5.  Is there an easier, yet comprehensive way to remove my data from the hard-drive?  My best approach is dumping anything I do not want found into the trash.
    I am running Mac OS 10.5.8 on the powermac G5

    For better security than the simple Erase (which does not actually over-write the data blocks, only clears the directory), choose Security Options, and Zero all data, one pass.
    After a Zero all data, the only way to recover the data is to dis-assemble the drive in a clean room and use expensive test gear to recover a little of the data. That is good for all but Military Secrets.
    If you really trust no one under any circumstances, remove the drive and beat it to death with a hammer.

  • Is there a way to remove security updates?

    Since installing the latest security update (11-28-06) on a G4 powerbook with 10.4.8 I can no longer launch AOL software which I need to do and can't just use the web version.
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled AOL software but it unexpectedly quits I'm pretty sure it was the security update. Is there a way to uninstall just that? I have called aol, no help, Do I have to do a clean OS X install?

    My question was "is there any way to remove a security update?
    No just as you can't remove an OS update such as 10.4.8.
    Your OS detail provided in your original post indicated 10.4.3 and now no information provided with this post.
    Are you running 10.4.8?
    The only way to remove a Security or OS update is a re-install with your 10.4 install package which can be done via an Archive & Install selecting preserve user and network settings and then running Software Update or downloading the particular OS update which does not include the latest security update.
    Although I don't use it often, I haven't experienced any problems with the AOL program and I've installed all available updates including the latest security update.

  • Clean way to De-register/De-commission the database with EBS from RAC/Cluster.

    Hi,
    We have a database with EBS on RAC. We are looking for Clean way to decommissioning the database from the cluster. We tried earlier, but when we again installed a fresh database on that server some how we had issues with the user oracle in cluster configuration files.
    Early response is highly appreciated.

  • Best way to remove smudges off the screen?

    My question's self-explanatory.
    Obviously it would be best that I keep my hand clean at all times, but sometimes that proves difficult. So what's the best/safest way to remove screen smudges? Cheers.

                             Re: Best way to remove smudges off the screen?
                                                    Jul 17, 2010 12:28 PM                                                    (in response to Crazychazza7)
    A guy at a camera store showed me this trick. Take a strip of scotch tape, the frosty looking kind, and lay it across the iPhone screen... then pull the tape up. Pulls smudges, oils and dirt off the screen. Repeat as many times as needed to traverse the entire surface. Works better/ easier than anything else I have tried.
                                    iPhone 4, iOS 4
    Best suggestion here. Really works!  Scotch "Magic" tape stickiness just right.  Removes smudge and grease.  Use Magic tape and then finish with micro-cloth.

  • Crooked stickers / decals on my new X220 - best way to remove ?

    ok, is it just me or are other also extremely annoyed by the fact that they just shelled out over a grand for a notebook and it arrives with all stickers put on there crooked.
    From the energy star sticker on the outside to the Windows 7 decal, the lenovo enhanced experience and the intel inside.
    it is like buying a 911 and the 911 logo on the back is crooked !!!
    why do they not just leave them off instead of making it look like a cheap notebook ???
    (click i have this question too or reply here please)
    and on a second note - what is the best way to remove said decals since i do not and cannot live with them like this and the soft touch surface makes it a pain in the butt to remove them.
    blowdryer, razor blade and goo-gone ? (extremely careful to only use the blade to lift the sticker not touch the notebook)
    and on a positive note - i am pretty amazed at the battery time i am getting on the new machine and the speed of the i7 and the 6GB of RAM. but i am still uninstalling crap and installing all the things i need
    (see also Firefox 13.0 and password manager not working AGAIN thread).....
    thanks in advance for your replies.
    PS: yes, i am aware i am suffering from OCD - but still ....
    someone is already getting paid to put them on there - why not do it right ?

    if a chemical is needed to clean the residue, off-the-shelf rubbing alchohol is best.   'goo gone' is petrolium-based and can damage or discolor the plastic.   i agree with lead_org though—they'll likely just pull off without much of a fight.
    the decals are there because of regulations and contractual advertising.   energy star devices require a decal stating compliance.   intel and microsoft require decals as part of including their products with PCs.   PC manufacturers could pay intel and microsoft extra to not include the decals but the costs would be passed onto the system price and consumers would complain about the increase.
    given how easy it is to remove the decals, i pull them off when a system arrives and enjoy a clean palmrest.

  • What is the best way to remove applications?

    I would like to remove unused applications (iChat, Dashboard, iCalendar and so on...)
    I am running audio software and using CPU quite heavily.
    What wold be the best way to remove these types of applications completely and have as minimal running in the background possible??? (I have already turned off Bluetooth, Airport etc...)
    Should I install removal software or just send them all to the Trash bin?

    None of those applications are running unless you launch them. Dashboard widgets only use CPU time and RAM if they are running. If you quit all widgets in the Dashboard then there's no memory footprint or use of the CPU.
    If you don't want anything but essentials running then don't launch any applications and remove any Login Items from Accounts preferences.
    Just because an application is installed on the computer does not mean it is running unless you launch it or configure it to launch automatically. So there is no need to remove any of these applications or utilities.
    You will find some good books on Macs and computers in general at your local bookstore. Your question suggests that you could benefit by reading a few.
    As for how to uninstall applications that you have installed see the following:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
    Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
    Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
    Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
    Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
    If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
    There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
    Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

  • What is the best way to remove crayon writing from my Ipad?

    What is the best way to remove crayon writing from my Ipad?

    All Apple recommends is a damp cloth.
    Depending on how much and thick it is, I'd use a dry papertowel or your fingernail to scrape the bulk of it off (I suggest fingernail so that you use something that can't really scratch the iPad)
    Once you get most of it, then use a damp, not wet, cloth, maybe one that you moistened with warm water to help cut through the waxy nature of the crayon.
    What you don't want to do is use chemicals or anything like a scrubby pad because you don't want to scratch the surface in your efforts to clean it.

  • Easy Way to remove Fans from Twin Frozr III ?

    Hi Forum,
    i have a N680GTX Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC and want to clean the cooler from dust. Is there an easy way to remove the fans but not the cooler itself from the GPU ? Are the screws enough, which i see between the fan to take it off ?
    rgds Thomas

    I can't really answer to be honest, but I would just remove them and see if the fans come off.
    The only way to find out is to try and take it apart. It'll probably be quicker and easier for you to just try it (and be very careful while doing it) than wait for someone to answer here.

  • I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?

    I have hidden unwanted books from the purchased area of the iBooks store, but they're are still appearing on the front page of iOS as cloud downloads, is there a way to remove these from iBooks without using the hide iCloud books button?
    Let me explain a little more. I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
    This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.
    This is exactly how I think this feature should work. If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).
    The iOS app is working differently for me. Here is a picture of the purchased tab on the iBooks store in iOS Ibooks. Again notice that pictures of Lilly is still yet to be downloaded. This is how I expected it to look.
    If we visit the front page of iOS iBooks the view is very different from what I expected. Here we can see the 4 books I wanted to keep on my device and have downloaded. We can also see the 1 book I wanted to keep, but did not want to store locally on the device and left in iCloud (Pictures of Lilly). However we can also see all the books I had hidden from the purchased section of my iTunes account and which I believe should no-longer be visible, Dracula, frankenstein etc…
    I am aware of the hide iCloud books button within the iOS app, but I did not need to use this to hide the books I had removed from the my purchased section of the iBooks store on the mac, why are they still appearing in iOS?
    I’m still not sure if this is a software glitch or not. This article suggests to me that books can be hidden, but I had already completed these steps.

    A browse of google also suggests people may have been able to hide past purchases from the front page of iBooks on iOS in the past.
    In case there was an issue with syncing I tried logging in and out of my iTunes account via settings in iOS. Force closing the app, disabling automatic downloads and removing my device from iTunes in the cloud. Syncing with iTunes on the mac did not correct the issue either.
    Interestingly I have the same issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3 as I do on my iPad mini suggesting that this might be an issue either with my account or with iOS iBooks software in general.
    If there is a way to remove the already hidden iBooks in your account from the front page of iBooks on iOS without using the hide iCloud downloads button? Please help community!

    My apologies for the lack of photos, here is my post again with photos.

  • Best way to remove last line-feed in text file

    What is the best way to remove last line-feed in text file? (so that the last line of text is the last line, not a line-feed). The best I can come up with is: echo -n "$(cat file.txt)" > newfile.txt
    (as echo -n will remove all trailing newline characters)

    According to my experiments, you have removed all line terminators from the file, and replaced those between lines with a space.
    That is to say, you have turned a multi-line file into one long line with no line terminator.
    If that is what you want, and your files are not very big, then your echo statement might be all you need.
    If you need to deal with larger files, you could try using the 'tr' command, and something like
    tr '
    ' ' ' <file.txt >newfile.txt
    The only problem with this is, it will most likely give you a trailing space, as the last newline is going to be converted to a space. If that is not acceptable, then something else will have to be arranged.
    However, if you really want to maintain a multi-line file, but remove just the very last line terminator, that gets a bit more complicated. This might work for you:
    perl -ne '
    chomp;
    print "
    " if $n++ != 0;
    print;
    ' file.txt >newfile.txt
    You can use cat -e to see which lines have newlines, and you should see that the last line does not have a newline, but all the others still do.
    I guess if you really did mean to remove all newline characters and replace them with a space, except for the last line, then a modification of the above perl script would do that:
    perl -ne '
    chomp;
    print " " if $n++ != 0;
    print;
    ' file.txt >newfile.txt
    Am I even close to understanding what you are asking for?
