Cleaning up temp tablespace with out restarting Oracle instance.

Hi,
I've a scenario where my temp tablespace gets filled up and i rarely restart my Oracle instance.
My temp tablespace is not auto-incremental and the Oracle version i have is 9.2.4
Appreciate if any one can provide the answers/suggestions?
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply...
I gone through the thread on Jeff Hunter where he is altering by making the temp table space to auto increment.
But my tablespace an i can't change my tablespace to autoincrement since it is in continous use 24x7 and 365 days.
Any ideas please?
Thanks

  • Import Oracle DataBase dump file Into Sql Server With out connection oracle using c# code.

    Hi All,
I would like to ask how can imports my dump oracle database file data and struct into sql server 2005
    with out make connection oracle.
    best regards.
    Hakim.

    Hi Hakim.
Based on your title, what I understood there is a issue regarding transfer oracle db dump to sql database using C# code. Am I right? If so, I am afraid there is no build-in method which meet your requrements in .NET framework. You must provides
OraDump  Export API to allow developers integrate corresponding capabilities  into their applications. These capabilities are about export data from  Oracle dump files into popular databases like Microsoft SQL server. Every developer
having OraDump Export API can write just few lines of code on C# or  Visual Basic to implement the appropriate export process.
    I am search a third-party link, but it's a paid service.

  • How to restart Oracle instance from oracle client

I have an Oracle server 10g with DEVEL instance on AIX machine. I have an Oracle Client on Windows machine as well. I want to stop and start the instance DEV from my client using bat file. Is it possible ? Is anybody knows how to do it ?
    KP>

well, right now the correct question should be : how to start database.
I am able to login as sysdba to DEVEL on AIX ( from Windows client) and shutdown it but when I try to startup it returns such a message:
ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
but I am still able to tnsping my DEVEL from client ...Post listener status, its contents and entry tnsnames.ora file. Here is how I got connected shutdown and started. The process I followed:
1)Made entry in listener.ora file as I said earlier, restarted the listener
    2)Made change in tnsnames.ora file
3)Connect from client shutdown and started.

  • HT204053 2nd SD Card does not show up on desktop with out Restarting computer.

I have iMac. I use 2 sets (A1-A2 and B1-B2) of dual SD cards for 2 videography cameras. A1 and A2 are identical. B1 and B2 are identical. Initally all SD cards showed up on desktop. They erased in Disk Utility when I'd downloaded the data. Then suddenly w/ no changes to computer or software, only 1 card would show up when I inserted it into the SD slot. If I insert 2nd card, nothing showed up on desktop, in finder or in disk utility. BUT, if I did a Restart, with the 2nd card in the slot, when the computer came back on, behold, there it was. I downloaded the contents, erased it in disk utility. I need to erase 4 32 Gb SD cards and erase them. I'm currently rebooting 3 times to accomplish this. It's a HUGE HUGE time sink to do this every time I want to download from cards. What's going on with the rebook solution? and how can I get back to better functioning? Solutions please. Thank you.

Are you using the USB cable that came with the shuffle?  The 2nd gen shuffle uses the USB cable with a mini-dock at the shuffle end.  The USB cable for the 3rd and 4th (current) gen shuffle does not work, because the connector is different.
If you are using the correct USB cable...  The shuffle will not continously appear on the Mac's desktop unless it is set to Enable disk use.  So "does not appear on desktop" may be OK.
It should appear in iTunes.  The latest version of iTunes may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  With the sidebar visible, the shuffle does not appear under DEVICES in the sidebar when connected?

  • With out restart, My MacBook MA255 can't working over 48hours.

From 6 months ago, My MacBook MA255 can't work over 48hours.
When it is works over 24hours, Finder will go to no response.
Force Quit can't help me to relunch Finder.
Parallels still working, but no internet connect.
If I click something, the whole computer will go to no response(keyboard and touch pad).
At that time I have to Forced it shutdown.
I also reinstalled OS but the problem is continue.
and I can't find any error from logs.

Hey Yu Su & welcome to the forums.
If you've reinstalled the OS and are still having issues, your hard drive could be failing. Bring the computer to an Apple store and ask the folks there to diagnose it for you.

  • Strage in TEMP tablespace

Something starge to me- Temp tablespace in Oracle 10g
    SQL> select FILE_NAME,AUTOEXTENSIBLE,BYTES/1024/1024/1024,USER_BYTES/1024/1024/1024 from dba_temp_files;
    FILE_NAME AUT BYTES/1024/1024/1024 USER_BYTES/1024/1024/1024
    /u01/app/oracle/oradata/ABCD/temp_1.dbf
Why all these values are coming as NULL??
    Any idea?

I have added one more Temp file in TEMP tablespace.
    /u01/app/oracle/oradata/ABCD/temp_2.dbf 500M
    SQL> !ls -ltr /u01/app/oracle/oradata/ABCD/temp_1.dbf
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle dba 1048584192 Mar 08 10:30
    /u01/app/oracle/oradata/ABCD/temp_1.dbf
Disk space utilization by first Temp file is as above.
But again the strange part is:-
    SQL> select FILE_NAME,BYTES/1024/1024/1024,USER_BYTES/1024/1024/1024 from dba_temp_files;
    SQL> select FILE_NAME,BYTES/1024/1024,USER_BYTES/1024/1024 from dba_temp_files;
    FILE_NAME BYTES/1024/1024 USER_BYTES/1024/1024
    /u01/app/oracle/oradata/ABCD/temp_1.dbf
    /u01/app/oracle/oradata/ABCD/temp_2.dbf 500 499
It is still not showing space for First temp file. :(
    Anyone has any idea?

  • Unusual Temp Tablespace Growth

    Hi ,
We have noticed unsual temp tablespace growth when concurrent users are accessing OLAP cube through BI Bean crosstabs.
On an average 3 to 4 GB temp tablespace is consumed for each new user. OLAP cube has 7 dimensions and 1.2 million records and is fully precalculated.
This causes the system to fail as a result of temp tablespace getting full.
Can somebody please let me know what can be the root causes?.
    Thanks in advance.
    Harry

    Hi there,
It is not unusual for OLAP queries to make significant use of temp tablespace. 3-4GB doesn't sound unreasonable to me. The actual amount used depends on factors such as the type of activity and the number of users.
There is a brief description of how OLAP uses temp tablespace here :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/olap.111/b28124/admin.htm#sthref442
Note the lower than standard setting 'EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 256K' - if you are not already using this setting then you may find that it lowers temp space usage as the default setting is usually 1024K or even 4096K
    I hope this helps

  • Oracle instance running on a system with low open file descriptor

    Hello.
We have 10.1.0.4 on SuSE 9 on x86 64bit Sun servers.
We have databases that if started manually come up without the warning, but if started via a shell script scheduled through a crontab start up with this warning: "Oracle instance running on a system with low open file descriptor".
My understanding is that it has to do with OS ulimit. it appears that non-interactive shell (crontab) does not set the nofiles at 65536.
All our system are set up exactly the same way. The problem is, though, that some systems do not report the warning even when started non-interactively.
My question is this: assuming my nofiles ulimit is in fact too low on all systems, why would some systems report the warning and others would not? Is there anything database specific the instance looks for when it starts, such as the number of datafiles in the database, instance memory size, etc..., which would make the instance warn in some cases but not the others?
    Thank You
    Boris

    Thank You Satish.
This is a good reference and we may end up looking into the patch bundle associated with the bug.
But does anyone have any idea why the systems that are set up the same exact way would warn on systems and not on others?
Also, the Metalink note talks about init.crsd. I have not build an association between this inconsistency and RAC.
What I do see is that if we start up our database non-interactively (where ulimit -n resolves to 1024, instead of 65536) the warning is generated, in some cases.
Perhaps, the 1024 is too low. But then my question is why would Oracle think it is too low only on some servers and not all?

  • 9i on Linux. Problems with Temp tablespace cleanup

I am currently running Oracle 9i Enterprise on SUSE Linux 7.2.
I am executing queries against the new XMLType datatype and every query adds to the Temp tablespace, which doesn't get cleaned up. Eventually, the tablespace will run out of space and Oracle will issue and error:
ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace <name>
The only way to clean up the Temp tablespace seems to be by restarting the server.
Is that happening on other platforms as well? I would appreciate any help.

    Hi
You can connect to the database as DBA (Sys or System) and make a bigger temporal tablespace. Or create a new bigger temporary tablespace and assign it to the user.
    A10!
PS: Temporary tablespace is used when no memory available for the session, for example when a big ORDER BY is done. Try to increase the memory assigned, just look at initXXX.ora (sort_size)

  • ORA-30928: "Connect by filtering phase runs out of temp tablespace"

i have created a query that is sued to display a data in a label. This particular query will then be stored into a program that we use. The query runs just fine until this morning when it returns the error ORA-30928: "Connect by filtering phase runs out of temp tablespace". I have Googled and found out that I can do any of the following:
Include a NO FILTERING hint - but did not work properly
Increase the temp tablespace - not applicable to me since this runs in a production server that I don't have any access to.

    Hi,
The documentation implies that the START WITH and CONNECT BY clauses should come before the GROUP BY clause. I've never known it to make a difference before, but you might try putting the GROUP BY clause last.
If you're GROUPing by LEVEL, what's the point of SELECTing MAX (LEVEL)? MAX (LEVEL) will always be the same as LEVEL.
What are you trying to do?
Post some sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) and the results you want from that data, and somebody will help you get them.

  • Restored coldbackup and having trouble with TEMP tablespace

Hi, i succesfully restored from a coldbackup on solaris.(oracle 9.2)
i can log on to database using toad, query the database, but when i try to take an export or something i got the error
    EXP-00056: ORACLE error 1157 encountered
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 203 - see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 203: '/sun2int1/oracle92/app/oracle/product/9.2.1/oradata/TPRS/temp03.dbf'

    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 1140
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
when i did the restore, i simply renamed the datafiles and redo logs.
But i didnt rename the TEMP datafile, as you can not rename it with a "alter database rename file ..." command
    so thats the problem!
i planned to create a new default temp. tablespace, and simply make it default and drop the other one. but it does not work!
    i tried to execute:
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp4 TEMPFILE '/oracleAS/TPRS/oradata/TPRS/temp4.dbf' SIZE 5M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 1M MAXSIZE unlimited
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 1M;
    create temporary tablespace temp01 tempfile '/oracleAS/TPRS/oradata/TPRS/temp01.dbf' size 100M;
but they all hang! i wait, but nothing happens! (and alert log does not log anything too)
and finally i tried to drop the default tablespace, and i couldnt drop it as i thought. (ORA-12906: cannot drop default temporary tablespace
So, im stuck and i beleive i have to RENAME the datafile for temporary tablespace. how can i do this?
