Clips fall off sync when transferred over network.

We've had the same network for almost 2 years now. Since we updated one of the computers the clips fall off sync, as if the machine is magically taking the slip/slide tool and using it itself. We updated the other mac to 6.0.1 as well, but still same problem. Can anyone help please?

Project files are just copied from one machine to the other, we never work on the same file at the same time
Where does your media live? If I had to guess I would say that you are trying to edit across the network. This means that your media lives on one machine and you try to edit it on the other. Is this what's happening?
If this is what you are doing then you will continue to have difficulties. Networks are just not fast enough to handle media this way. Count your blessings that you did not have any trouble for two years. Now is the time to rethink your workflow.

  • Comparison of number of bytes transferred over network while using HTTPService and RemoteObjects

If I have to transfer data(say records of 100 employees in a DB) from Server to Client, I could use HTTPService and fetch the data as an XML file and then convert it to ArrayCollection in the Client. Or use RemoteObject and transfer the data in binary. Lets ignore other methods(Web Services etc) of data transfer for the moment.
Now, for the same data, if I implement the application using HTTPService and RemoteObject, I notice that the number of bytes transferred over the network is less in case of HTTPService(XML) when compared to RemoteObject(AMF) which is a shock to me. My understanding is that AMF transfer should be more compact than XML. Ofcourse, once the data is available, RemoteObject result processing is noticeably faster than HTTPService result processing. My concern is why data transferred using AMF is larger than XML. As an example, you may refer to the samples provided in TourDeFlex. Refer to the following:
    HTTPService:
Found in : Flex Data Access->HTTPService->BasicExample
        Link: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-archive/flex/tourdeflex/web/#docIndex=0;illustIndex=0;sampleId =12700
Click on the 'Get Data' button to fetch the data.
        Bytes transferred - 1050
    RemoteObject:
Found in : Flex Data Access->RemoteObject->BasicJavaRemoting
        Link: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-archive/flex/tourdeflex/web/#docIndex=0;illustIndex=0;sampleId =13300
Click on the 'Get Data' button to fetch the data.
        Bytes transferred - 1440
This is a significant size difference. You may see the data transfer size by using developer tools like the HTTPFox Firefox extension.
Am I missing something here? Any help will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Balu

There is definitely problem with your tool or you looked at something else. Please check the attached snapshots of the session using charles capture tool. The response sizes are way bigger than what you mentioned but remoteobjects is almost half of httpservice for the complete transfer including request and response. Check below -

  • Missing files when copying over network

I've had a good search for people with similar problems on Discussions, and there are a few mentions of similar occurences. Here's my summary though.
I have 2 Macs, and frequently transfer files from one to the other by sharing drives and using the Finder.
However, quite often, when transferring lots of files, they are sucessfully copied but do not show in Finder on the receiving machine. The files are there (using Terminal to explore the directory reveals the files in question), but Finder just doesn't acknowledge any existence of the "missing" files.
This problem can usually be cured by creating a new folder in one of the affected folders - this somehow kicks Finder into refreshing the folder's contents.
Removing the .DS_Store file(s) (again, via Terminal) in the copied folder also resolves this issue, leading me to believe that the problem lies with the .DS_Store files.
I cannot believe I am not the only user who frequently finds themselves having to do uneccesary Terminal work to reveal files which appear to be missing after copy over the network.
Is Apple aware of this problem? Does anyone else have any workarounds?

I don't think I have experienced that exact problem however, I am such a Unix geek, I typically do my in-network transfers between Mac machines using SCP at the shell prompt in Terminal.
Finder refresh on the other hand I have experienced before although I cannot provide a situation or example.
Usually if it needs a refresh, I believe all I ever do is navigate away from the folder, then back to it. Or if it is the Desktop in question, using Exposé to show it, a single click on an empty space there will make the newly copied items appear.

  • One set of clips won't sync when trying to create a Multicam clip

I am trying to create a multicam clip using one long audio track, several clips from one camera and several clips from another camera. All three have audio recorded from the same shoot. One camera angle successfully synchronises with the audio track, placing the clips in the correct positions and leaving blank spaces where I don't have a clip. The other set of clips do not sync. It puts them in order by not synchronised. I have named camera angles and camera in the meta fields. Can anyone help? The camera which seems to sync ok was a canon XA10 the camera which doesn't is a canon 60D. The 60D took its audio teach from the linear PCM recorder I used for the Audio track. (It's still a little noisy in case anyone wants to know why I'm still using the PCM track). Can anyone help? I tried to call apple but seemingly they won't help unless I get an error message.

You could probably generate the content of the end file
separately, before including it in the final file to be accessed by
    the user.
You could do this using CFSAVECONTENT
    <cfquery name="getprinthtml" datasource="#dsn#">
    SELECT abstractDirectory
    FROM Abstract_tbl
    WHERE (Abstract_ID IN (#url.abslist#))
    </cfquery>
    <cfsavecontent variable="theBody">
    <cfoutput query="getprinthtml">
    <cfinclude
    template="/uploads/#getprinthtml.abstractDirectory#/#getprinthtml.abstractDirectory#_prin t.html">
    <hr>
    </cfoutput>
    </cfsavecontent>
    then use
theBody as a variable containing the entire contents at one
time when you generate the final Word doc so it does not have to
run any looping at that time.
Other than that, is there any chance the query is really only
picking up one row based on the cirteria ?

  • Why does my ibook HD show a different name when accessing over network?

I am including the details below for some industrious soul to peruse. In a nutshell, I have renamed my old computers internal drive (no problem), but when I connect to it via network from my new computer it still comes up as the old HD name instead of the new name that I gave it.
Is this normal to have the name of the HD sitting on the desktop not be the same as the name seen when connecting over my LAN? Or am I seeing the beginnings of trouble? Permission repairs don't come up with anything, nor does Disk Utility.
Thanks for the advise, and here's the details:
After buying a new iMac, I decided to rename my ibook's drive from Macintosh HD to iBook HD-- so I wouldn't confuse myself when networkign the two together. Seems I have confused the computers, however. After renaming my ibook HD, when I connect to it over my network I see the following under My Network:
    TBB iBook G4
    TBB-ibook-G4
Thomas Bailey 2's iBook G4 (apparently this comes from an administrator account I temporarily created and then later deleted)
When I click on the first computer name, I get the Connect to Server dialog Box, where I put in my main admin user login info. I then get a shoice of volumes to mount, which shows my admin user name and the old name of the hard drive (Macintosh HD).

    Hi Thomas!
Is your iBook hard drive possibly the same name as one of your account names?

  • Printer falls off after connecting to the network (wired)

Hello! I'm using a Hp Officejet pro 8600 plus printer for over 2 years without any problems.Since to day it's connected via a switch and the printer is giving a error and the display shows "please turn the printer of and restart". I've done this a couple of times and every single time it falls off.... Does anyone knows where this problem might be?

first there is the EVW3226EU modem/router from Ubee that's wired to a 5way switch from Dlink (the DGS-1005D). The printer is wired to the switch.

  • Error when conneced over network

    Hey guys,
I have been using two basler cameras to perform vision acquisition and has worked fine the last two months while in development, however i have now started to deploy this on two other machines in the workplace and have conected over the network, i can ick up the cameras but i cannot acquire images it tells me the camera did not receive a test packet, the test packet size might be too large for network configuration or firewall is enabled. my test acket size was 4000. I have changed no settings so i am confused as to why now it does not work. The firewall was always disabled. Any suggestions welcome
    Damien
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Does it have to be connected through the company network?  There is probably a lot of non-camera data moving around on the company network, so it is probably messing things up.  I always set up my DAQ or vision systems on their own network to avoid the problem.  Vision systems especially send a lot of data over the network, using a large percentage of the bandwidth at full speed.
Are you trying to do continuous, high speed acquisition, or just snapping a frame every now and then?  I would try snapping a single image to see if that works, then work your way up from low speed (1 frame/sec) to whatever you need.
Can you check your percentage of bandwidth use when connected directly?

  • Finder Freezes when Mounting over Network

I have a network set up and can see the computer I want to access in Network. When clicking to log into the computer, it asks for username/password as usual. Then it asks me what drives I want to mount, so I select the one I want and then a box comes up saying mounting, with a progression bar, but it just sits there and never mounts. The box remains in the foreground so to get rid of it I have to restart the computer. I really want to be able to access the drive over the network. Any ideas?

Hi Phil, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    One thing to check...
In finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1, and reboot.
You may also have to trash this file & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Also, once you do get them to mount...
Mount that Share once, then once the Globe Icon shows up on the Desktop, drag that Globe Icon to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash. You now have a Dynamic Mount, a quick click on the Icon in the Dock will connect you.
    On the multiple Shortcuts...
Mount them all, when show up on the Desktop, then create a new Folder maybe named Shares on/in the Desktop, drag all those Shares shown on the Desktop to that Folder, (you can even rename them once there, if you wish), drag that Folder to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash, this should give you a popup menu to select from.:-)

  • MP4 clips out of sync when dropping onto my timeline and I can't fix it.

I'm trying to drop some mp4 clips onto my timeline in CS6 Premier Pro. The problem is the audio keeps going out of sync. It plays fine elsewhere but for some reason doesn't sync up properly in the timeline and I can't fix it. It looks like the video is slower than the audio/ the audio is quicker. When the clip is on the timeline it has a green line above it where as everything that is in sync has a yellow line. All clips have been imported from my internal drive. I'm using a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5. Does anyone know how to fix this?

What is the source of your clips, and do they possibly use a Variable Frame Rate instead of a Constant Frame Rate?

  • I bought a new computer, and when transferring over to new computer, forgot bookmarks, now I can't find them on my old computer!

We bought a new computer, and somehow bookmarks did not transfer to new computer, and now i cannot find them anywhere!

    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox Transferring data to a new profile - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base]
I actually copied most of my user application data from my old system to my new system and that includes all of my Firefox profiles. If I just wanted one profile, I would create the new profile on the new system and copy the old profile into it as I have much too much in the way of modifications to risk losing. as opposed to copying just a few files to the new profile.
Since it appears you only want/need your bookmarks file, then assuming your old system is operational and was using Firefox 3.0 or higher,
bring it up type in about:support or use Help -> Trouble Shooting Information then click on "Open Containing Folder" You will find your old places.sqlite file there or you can restore the latest .json file from the bookmarksbackups directory with the help of a USB thumb drive.
The places.sqlite file would be copied into your new profile with Firefox down and check the Windows Task Manager's Processes Tab to make sure firefox.exe is not running (Window's 7 only keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
If you restore a bookmarkbackups .json file you would do that with your new Firefox open and through the Library list ("Ctrl+Shift+B") then "Import and Backup" on the Library menu bar, then "Restore" then "Choose File" the restore will go very fast.
Since you are going to a new system and both Firefox 4 and Windows 7 may both be new to you, and I would suggest checking out the following two articles where you may find solutions to some of the problems with each, or how to work with them.

  • Time Capsule Falling Off Network During Heavy Activity

This basic topic has been previously posted but keeps getting hijacked by digression. To clearly state the behavior; Time Capsule falls-off (disappears) from a WiFi network during operations where large amounts of data is being moved. This occurs regardless of whether the internal drive or a connected USB drive is the target. This is not an internet issue.
Set-up: Time Capsule is extending an 802.11 b/g/n network originating from an AirPort Express. Time Machine is currently off (because this issue has made it unreliable). The TC has a USB drive with my iTunes library and documents folder. There is one client cpu, a current model Macbook. All drivers and firmware report "up to date." Interface robustness has been both on and off. I have gone to 802.11n only and the problem persists.
The Time Capsule will sit on the network for weeks without issue if data is not being passed to it. When I copy large amounts of data to the TC or the attached USB drive it will vanish off the network until I do a cold boot of it (the TC). I will get a system network error of "DATA-1 cannot be written to" when it happens, which is understandable since the TC is in Oz. I have parked on Channel 1 which reports unused by my sniffer; I have also hopped to other channels but the problem persists. This is a hi-rise apartment environment.
This has been an issue since day-one with this unit and I have brought it to the Genius who could not get it to repeat after hours of testing.

I can't help directly -- just got mine last night -- but to bump your thread and get some clarification...
You say your USB drive attached to the TC has your "iTunes library and documents folder", do you mean literally your Documents folder, or just a folder with documents?
Are you accessing the Internet through your TC, or is it attached to your network as just a device, and you have another router/gateway? When you say "drops off", do you mean you cannot mount it remotely and that's the only problem, or do you lose Internet connectivity -- if it's your gateway -- or does the Airport Utility not see it?
If it's a mounting problem, I assume you cannot see either the internal or external USB drive. Have you tried it without the external USB drive? (I assume that may have been a difference when the Mac Genius tried it. Did you also take your USB drive and did they leave it attached for their testing?)
What about things like temperature conditions, etc? Perhaps if where you keep it is very hot and the Apple Store is very air-conditioned?
Just throwing out a bunch of ideas and questions that might help someone see the problem. Clarification always helps.

  • Is there a way to turn off using ram as intermediary when transfering files between 2 internal hdds? (write cache is off on all drives)

right forum?  first time here. none of the options seem perfect. so i guess this applies to 'setup.' i tried to describe what's happening verbosely from the start of a file transfer to completion of writing file to 2nd hard drive.
    win 7 64bit home - i2600k 3.4ghz - 8gb of ram - 2hdd 1 ssd
I have this problem when transferring files between 2 internal hard drives. one is unhealthy (slow write speeds but not looking for advice to replace it because it serves its unimportant purpose). so, the unhealthy drive drops into PIO mode - that's acceptable.
however, a little over 1gb of any file transfer is cached in RAM during the file transfer. after the file transfer window closes, indicating the transfer is "complete" (HA!), it still has 1gb to write from RAM which takes about 30minutes. This would
not be a problem if it did not also earmark an additional 5gb of ram (never in use), leaving 1gb or less 'free' for programs. this needlessly causes my pc to be sluggish - moreso than a typical file transfer file between 2 healthy drives. i have windows write
caching turned off on all drives. so this is a different setting i can't figure out nor find after 2 hours of google searches.
info from taskmanager and resource monitor.
idle estimates: total 8175, cached 532, available 7218, free 6771 and the graph in taskman shows about 1gb memory in use.
at the start of a file transfer:  8175,  2661,  6070,  4511free and ~2gb of ram used in graph. No problems, yet.
however, as the transfer goes on, the free ram value drops to less than 1gb (1gb normal +1gb temporary transfer cache +5gb of unused earmarked space = ~7gb),  cached value increases, but the amount of used ram remains relatively unchanged (2gb
during transfer and slowly drops to idle values as remaining bits are written to the 2nd hard drive).  the free value is even slower to return to idle norms after the transfer completes writing data to 2nd hard drive from RAM. so, it's earmarking an addition
5gb of ram that are completely unused during this process.  *****This is my problem*****
Is there any way to turn this function off or limit its maximum size. in addition to sluggishness, it poses risk to data integrity from system errors/power loss, and it's difficult to discern the actual time of transfer completion, which makes it difficult
to know when it's safe to shutdown my pc (any data left in ram is lost, and the file transfer is ruined - as of now i have to use resmon and look through what's writing to disk2 -> sometimes easy to forget about it when the transfer window closed 20-30minutes
ago and the file is still in the process of writing to the 2nd disk).
Any solution would be nice, and a little extra info like whether it can be applied to only 1 hard drive would be excellent.

    Thanks for the reply.
(Although i have an undergrad degeee in computers, it's been 15years and my vocab is terrible. so, i will try my best. keep an open mind. it's not my occupation, so i rarely have to communicate ideas regarding PCs)
It operates the same way regardless of the write-cache option being enabled. It's not using the 5gb for read/write buffer - it's merely bloating standby memory during the transfer process at a rate similar to the write speed of destination (for my situation).
at this point i don't expect a solution. i've tried to look through lists of known memory leaks but i dont have the vocabulary to be 100% certain this problem is not documented. as of now it can't affect many people - NAS's with low bandwidth networks, usb
attached storage etc. do bugs get forwarded from these forums? below i can outline the consistent and repeatable nature not only on my pc but on others' pcs as well (2012 forum post i found).
I've been testing and paying a little more attention and i can describe it better:
    Just the Facts
Resmon Memory Info: "In Use" stays consistent ~1gb (idle amount and roughly the same when nothing else is running during file transfer)
                                     "Modified" contains file transfer
data (meta data?) which remains consistent at little over 1gb (minor fluctuations due to working as a buffer). After the file transfer window closes "Modified" slowly diminishes as it finishes lazy writing (i believe that's the term). I forget idle
pc amount, but after transfer this is ony 58mb)
"Standby" as the transfer starts it immediately rises to ~2gb. I'm sure this initial jump is normal. However, it will bloat well over 5gb over time with a large enough transfer increasing at a consistent rate during the entire transfer
process. the crux of the matter.
"Free" will drop as far as 35-50megabytes over time.
as the transfer starts, the "Standby" increases by an immediate chunk then at a slow rate throughout entire transfer process(~1mb/s). once writing metadata to RAM no longer occurs, the "Modified" ram slowly (@500kb/s matching resmon disk
activity for that file write) diminishes as it finishes lazy writing, After file is 100% written to destination drive, "Standby" remains a bloated figure long after.
a 1.4gb transfer filled 3677MB of "Standby" by the time writing finished and modified ram cleared. after 20minutes, it's still bloated at 3696MB. after 30-40mins it's down to 2300mb - this is about what it jumps immediately to when transfer starts
    - it now remains at this level until i reboot.
I notice the "standby" is available to programs. but they do not operate well. e.g. a 480p trailer on IMDB.com will stop-and-go every 2-3seconds (stream buffers fine/fast) - this would be during the worst case scenario of 35-50mb "Free"
ram. my pc isn't and never was the latest and greatest, but choppy video never happens even with 1 or 2 resource hogs running (video processing/encoding, games, etc).
    Conjecture Below
i think it's a problem when one device is significantly slower at writing than the source device - this is the factor that i share with others having this problem. when data is written to modified ram then sent to destination, standby memory is expanded
until it completely or nearly fills all available RAM - If the transfer size is large enough relative to how slow the write speed of destination device is. otherwise it fills it up as much as the file size/write speed issue allows. the term "memory leak"
is used below but may not technically be one, but it's an apt description in layman's terms.
i saw a similar post in these forums (link at end). My problem is repeatable and consistent with others' reports. I wasn't sure if i should revive it with a reply. some of these online message boards (maybe not this one) are extremely picky
and sensitive, lol.the world will end if an old thread revives - even if for a good reason.
i can answer some of the ancillary issues. one person (Friday, September 21, 2012 8:33 PM) mentions not being able to shutdown, i asume he means stuck on the shutdown screen - this is because lazy writing has not completed - his nas write speed is significantly
slower than reading from source - the last bits of data left in ram still needs to be writen to the destination. shutdown will stall for as long as needed until the data finishes writing to destination to prevent data loss.
another person (Monday, September 24, 2012 6:31 PM) mentions the rate of the leak, but the rate is more likely a function of read speed from source relative to write speed of destination. which explains why my standby expands closer to a 1:1 ratio compared
to his 1:100 (he said 10mb per 1000mb)
we all have the same exact results/behaviour, but slightly different rates of bloating/leaking. as the file is written from from the ram to the destination, standby increases during this time - not a problem if read and write speeds are roughly equal (unless
your transfering a terabytes then i bet the problem could rear its head). when writing lags, it gives the opportunity for standby ram to bloat with no maximum except the amount of installed ram. slower the write speed, the worse the problem.
The reply on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 3:04 AM has before and after pictures of exactly what i described in
"Just the Facts". Specifically the resmon image showing the Memory Tab.
The kb2647452 hotfix seems to do some weird things relative to this problem. in the posts that mention they've applied it: after file completes it looks like the "standby" bloat is now "in use" bloat. as per info from Tuesday, October
09, 2012 10:36 PM - bobmtl in an earlier post applies the patch. compare images from earlier posts to his post on this date. seems like a worse problem. Also, his process list indicates it's very unlikely they add up to ~4gb as listed in the color coded bar.
wheres the extra gb's coming from? likely the same culprit of what filled up "standby" memory for me and others. it looks like this patch relative to this problem merely recategorizes the bloat - just changes the title it falls under.

  • ITunes hangs when syncing large files to network attached drives, ideas?

I've done a lot of research on my problem and have come up blank so far. This is my setup and situation. I use a macbook pro and iTunes 10, but since I use a small SSD, I do not have much room to keep iTunes media on my disk. So, I use an external USB drive, formatted HFS+ J, accessible over my AirPort Extreme as a networked drive and am trying to keep my media there by setting my iTunes Media folder location to my "/Volumes/<drive name>/iTunes/iTunes Media" under iTunes>Preferences>Advanced. For the most part this works, but there are a few gotchas that are making this setup unusable.
The biggest problem is if I try to sync a large file (for example a 250MB app) with iTunes to my networked storage, the culprit almost always being a large iOS app in Mobile Application folder, iTunes will hang with the spinning color wheel, and in the toolbar shows "Not Responding". This also hangs the Finder. After this situation, I pretty much have to force quit everything and reboot my machine to get the Finder and iTunes back to health.
So, I thought that I would try keeping the iOS apps on my local drive and just move my music out to a network drive. But iTunes doesn't allow any granular configuration of the sort (big FAIL on Apple's part), and I've read up that iTunes does not play nice with symbolic links or else I would keep the iTunes Media location set to my local drive and symlink the Music folder out to my network drive.
So, given that 1) I don't have enough space to keep everything local, 2) trying to keep everything on NAS causes my machine to fail when syncing my iPhone or trying to consolidate my iTunes library because of large file transfers over the network making thing go insane, and 3) iTunes doesn't easily let you manage your library with symlinks, any ideas on what I should do?

i assume you are connecting wirelessly to the AEBS, correct ?
as a test, run an ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN ports of the AEBS (you might want to turn off airport on your machine), then try again.
    does the problem persist ?
