Clone function in Aperture 2.0

I have used the Aperture 2.0 clone feature when the program was first release with no problem. However, tonight when I use the clone feature the cloned color seems to be "absorbed" in the new location. I identified what area to clone and selected a "white" area to place the clone item. When it first appears the cloned color is appears but the color appears to fade until it is gone. I have played with the settings but to no avail. Anyone else experience this effect? Let me know.

Are you talking about the Spot & Patch tool or the Retouch tool?
Sounds like the Retouch tool, which takes area you copied from and blends it into the colour and tone of the area you copy onto.

  • Use of clone function in actionscript 3.0

    I am learning MVC Design pattern. and i got confused in clone function .can any one help me why this clone function is used and how it works.
    the code is below
    package mvc{
    public class Time {
    private var _hour:uint;
    private var _minute:uint;
    private var _seconds:uint;
    public function get hour(){
    return _hour;
    public function set hour(value:unit):void{
    _hour = value;
    public function get minute(){
    return _minute;
    public function set minute(value:uint):void{
    _minute = value;
    public function get seconds(){
    return _seconds;
    public function set seconds(value:uint):void{
    _seconds = value;
    public function Time(hour:uint, minute:uint, seconds:uint){
    _hour =hour;
    _minute=minute;
    _seconds=seconds;
    public function clone():Time{
    return new Time(_hour,_minute,_seconds);

    If you created an instance of your time class that you called myTime
    var myTime:Time = new Time(15,15,0);
    and later you wanted another instance with the same time you could write
    var myTime2:Time = myTime.clone()
    It is just there for convienience and doesn't have anything much to do with MVC

  • Miss a map function in Aperture 2 book themes as available iPhoto

    is there a way to import the iPhoto book theme lay-outs with map function into aperture 2 (map with travel route based on photo gps data and manual input)?
    any ideas?

    No - iPhoto and Aperture are totally different and you can not share the templates
    You can do a map page in iPhoto and print that page to PDF selecting the send PDF to iPhoto option which will create an image of the map in iPhoto - then export that image and import it to Aperture (or upload to MobileMe or use any places that images can be user)

  • Clone tool causing Aperture to freeze...

    Has anyone else experienced Aperture 'freezing' when trying to use the clone tool on anything (it seems) other than a black background? When I try to erase extraneous background 'stuff' by cloning a black area, it works fine. But when I try to, say, clone an area of color in order to erase a black background, Aperture freezes (and stays that way until I force quit) for as long as twenty minutes, sometimes.
    Am I missing a setting somewhere...?

    I appreciate your response very much, but I have a hard time believing it is hardware or OS related, for many reasons...
    1) It only happens when I am using the clone tool in a specific circumstance, and not across the board generally.
    2) It doesn't happen when I use the other side of the clone tool, the repair tool, of which the only difference is a radio button and software; they're both in the same control window.
    3) Something I neglected to mention in my first post was the behavior of the clone tool, when cloning a black background, accepting the first adjustment, but then claiming for the second adjustment that I hadn't option-clicked to define the point of cloning. It seems to happen every time I do this specific operation. All other adjustments, within that specific use of the clone tool, work as advertised; the second adjustment is the only one that can't remember what I selected for the first one.
    4) SInce my first post, Aperture has begun to behave quite weirdly indeed. I have some pictures of a predominately pink-ish hue, that in making adjustments, all is well until I get to noise reduction. Then, upon adding noise reduction, the preview looks great but the browser view looks like a photo negative and the version export is a photo negative. It was only through investigation that I discovered what the offending adjustment was. So FAR, it has only happened to a few pictures, and others of the same predominate hue adjusted normally.
    I don't understand what is going on, but it is disturbing, and I am becoming rather upset.
    These problems are a relatively new occurrence, within the last week or so, and I can't have my editor of choice starting to go south on me, as I'm in the middle of a large batch of editing.
    Has anyone else experienced these types of problems...?

  • Dust bunnies on the cam sensor. Can't find a Clone Tool in Aperture....??

    My Canon 5D takes incredible shots, but I often have to deal with some "Dust Bunnies", when shooting in very arid/windy locations. I can not locate a tool in Aperture that allows me to clone these out. Does a Clone tool exist?

    Yes, the spot is too uniform and both spot and patch are very hard edged ... have to work the softness and radius to get a reasonable result. BTW, too many spot/patches really make Aperture crawl and give the JPG export version the heabie jeabies (blank areas of the image apart from the patches)on my Quad.

  • Clone Functional Group

    Hi all,
    I want to clone one sap standard function group (say A ) which has 4 function module and function module has some user exits thas has different functional group(say B) . so when I was trying to clone the A function group it clone all the data but not the user exit that is under the function module( which is in functional group B ) . So how can I clone the functional group A so it clone the dependent user exit.
    thanks

    Hi,
    Generally User Exits dont get copied. Thats why in upgradation also we need to do them again. If it is not getting copied from Tcode se80 then you need to do it manually.

  • Is there a sync function in Aperture?

    Hi i am trying out Aperture 3. Is there a feature like Lightroom 2, Sync Folder? I use PS to edit and would like to reflect changes in Aperture 3 instead of reimport each time. Is there such feature?

    Hi, welcome to this forum
    There is not a direct 'sync' feature, but yes if you do it the 'Aperture' way, it's a great feature of Aperture... You open Aperture > then go to Preferences > then click the export tab > where it says "External Photo Editor" You set photoshop as your external editor.
    You open your pictures in aperture, then when you want to edit with PS right click the picture... click Edit with Adobe CS4.... or Command & Shift & O on the keypad... and your photo is exported to CS4 where you can edit, then save in CS4 (.psd file) then return to Aperture and all your edits are carried over to aperture... without leaving Aperture..
    Works like a dream...

  • I'm trying to merge (unify) my Aperture library with my iphoto library and have doen the merge and consolidate functions in Aperture.  I have found that this process increased my Aperture library form 30 to 39 gigs and duplicated many photos in the proces

    I've just merged my Aperture and iphoto libraries and have found that my combined new Aperture library has grown from about 30 gigs (the total size of the Aperture and iphoto libbraries prior to merging) to 40 gigs.  Also, in reviewing photos in the Aperture browser I find that photos appaer as duplicated, one photo with no tag (the original) followed by the same photo with a small tag (suggesting edits).  HAs the merge process caused an unintended increase in library size? My initial reason do consolidate the libraries was to eliminate the "referenced" portion fo the Aperture library that refernced the iphoto originals. Any thoughts as to how I can get one consolidated non-referenced combined libray inside Aperture with no duplicates.  I run a Time Capsule and can access backups of the original Aperture and Iphoto libraries if I need to repeat the process. Thanks for any help.  Jim.

    One for the Consolidate Masters command.
    By importing the Library you brought over everything, lock stock and barrell, and your Aperture library still points to those referenced masters in the iPhoto Library.

  • I view pro user lookin for functions in aperture

    amateur photographer have been using i view pro and just been recommended aperture so am trying the trial. There are a few things that I have now orked out how to do:
    - can i reduce the size of the jpeg to save space ie if it is 3MB and would prefer it to be 1?
    - when I look at a photo in the library, can i see which projects it is in?
    - is there a search for duplicates - i have the same photos in various projects that I dont necessarily want?
    PS as a hobby photographer who never prints, do i need to use RAW?
    Thank you

    i don't think there are a lot of responses because the seemingly simple questions that you ask are very long answers. The short answer is you can do all of these things one way or another but if you are looking for a one click solution to the problem of duplicate images in multiple projects there is none.
    This seems to be your primary goal as of this minute and the only great way to do this will take at least some knowledge of how aperture works. I would worry more about going forward than dealing with a couple of duplicates from the past. Especially if they are 3 meg jpgs. The other thing regarding changing the size of the jpgs - yes you can export images to just about any spec you would like but aperture will never ever change the master images that you import. as for RAW - it all depends on your needs. Quick and dirty = jpg - want to do something different in the future = RAW - space is cheap so if you are unsure shoot raw.

  • Clone/Repair issues Aperture 3

    I will have an image completely cloned/repaired to how I want it, change images to edit the next one, and when I come back to the other image that I have completed clone/repair, parts or all of my cloning/repairing will be gone.  I'll uncheck and then re-check the Retouch box to see if they will appear again, but they don't.  And then I have to retouch all over again.  Sometimes they will re-appear when I'm in the middle of retouching again.  Other times it won't at all.  I've tried exporting image to see if the retouches are still there and just not showing, and they are not.

    Is your Library Referenced or Managed?  Is it on your main internal drive?  If an external drive is involved, how is this external drive formatted?  Is it Mac OS Extended?

  • Search function not working in Aperture

    The search function in Aperture 2.1.4 is not working,. No changes have been made to settings/preferences. Advanced keyword searching will no take place either.

    The upgrade from Aperture 2 to Aperture 3 has to be bought from the AppStore; it is not a free update.  But Aperture is no longer as expensive as it used to be, but still 69,99 € or 80 $ (US).
    Sometimes next year will the new Photos.app be released by Apple, and the migration from Aperture 3 to Photos will be supported, but I have no idea, if that will be possible for Aperture 2 libraries.
    I've never run Aperture with Lion or later, so I cannot be sure, which troubleshooting measures will be save on Mavericks. Check out this link:  Aperture 2: Troubleshooting Basics

  • Stamp function broken in Aperture

    Hello:
    It appears the group stamp function in Aperture has stopped working properly. If I lift the keywords I want to use in a group of pictures and then proceed to use the stamp function only the highlighted picture is stamped. All the other selected images are not stamped.
    Also, if I group a number of pictures, and then attempt to assign a keyword to all of them only the highlighted picture is keyworded. All the remaining pictures are unaffected.
    Any idea what might be causing the problem and is there a fix?
    Here is my configuration:
    iMac 24" running SL 10.6.2
    Aperture version 2.1.4
    I have attempted restarting the program and the computer with no success.
    Thanks in advance for your prompt response.

    Ernie:
    Thanks for the input. The first method described in the link you posted is the method I have used in the past (for at least a year). The only problem is now it does not work. It only stamps the information to one of the images. The other images are unaffected.
    I have not tried the second method (at least not for now) because it is not my normal work flow. More importantly, it is bothersome to have a feature stop working. Gives me the feeling other features might start to act up.
    One way I have been able to make it work is to open the lift window, make the keyword choices I want, then while the lift window is open, I select the pictures/images I want to modify. Finally, going back to the lift window I then click on "Stamp Selected Images". It works this way but still, something is not right...

  • Aperture 3.03 Problem

    but it has no actual technical content on what the author believes this indexing is. I'm always wary of "voodoo" maintenance (just like the 'magic' ascribed to using "Repair Permissions" frequently.)
    It is my understanding that booting in safe-mode might result in a complete disk check (an "fsck", or what Disk Utility calls a "Verify Disk" plus a "Repair Disk" if needed), and just maybe a rebuild of the Mac OS Extensions cache and the removal of font and dynamic loader caches. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 - the login items, and non-apple items are disabled purely for that single 'safe' boot.)

  • Heavy Retouch Editing Really Slows Down Aperture!

    I've been editing a few images in Aperture 3.0.1 that have require a significant amount of Retouch editing. Once I've reached about 70-80 Retouch edit brush strokes, Aperture starts to bog down. If I go over 100 Retouch brush strokes, Aperture REALLY starts to slow down, particularly if I try to export a file to be edited in Photoshop or NIK plugins. In fact, exporting is DRAMATICALLY slowed down, even if just exporting a 800x800 JPG. If I hit 150+ Retouch brush strokes, the Export Version function in Aperture becomes all but unusable. It can take 20-30 minutes to actually export the version! And that's just for a single image.
    Once Aperture has caught up with itself, I can go and export a lightly edited image and it will happen in mere seconds. Go back to that heavily Retouched image, and export takes forever!
    I sure hope the next release of Aperture resolves this issue! As best I can tell, it is directly related to RETOUCH (both Repair and Clone) and not so much the other Adjustments.
    BTW, I have already shared my experience with the Aperture Team via Aperture Feedback.
    Mark

    I've seen this slowdown as well.
    I think that, to some extent, that this is an issue that will exist with the type of application that Aperture is. It is dynamically applying your edits and rendering a final image to your eye, and if you have 150 retouches Aperture has to do a LOT of work. I mean, really, the math and calculations required are extreme. Maybe there's a magic bullet for this in how Aperture renders the output, but I don't know from the non-destructive nature whether this is possible. It could just be that I can't think of an easy way.

  • Aperture-fine 10.6.4 but not 10.6.8

    I am having problems with brushes crashing Aperture on 10.6.8.  In fact, not just brushes but other adjustments as well.  The same thread 37 crashes according to the log/report.  This is the GeForce7xxx error.  The reason I am posting is that with 10.6.4, I have zero problems.  I would like to upgrade the OS on my main machine to use the App Store, but all SL versions (10.6.1-10.6.3 and 10.6.5-10.6.8) result in problematic behavior with Aperture.  I believe it's the drivers, since the 10.6.4 version of drivers works best.   A member of the Aperture team has contacted me and asked for crash logs to investigate several months ago.  This has been documented but I was not promised nor have I received any personal response.  Here's my question: am I missing something silly (like the non-standard ~/Library/Colorpickers problems a year or two ago)? Second, if I want to replace the 10.6.8 driver with earlier 10.6.4 drivers, can I just replace them via Finder with Copy/Paste and then repair permissions? Or MUST I perform everything via terminal to remove, copy and set permissions (not my strength, for sure).  Thanks for any help.

    Okay, I know it is odd to reply to oneself, but this information may be useful to those using Aperture with older machines. First, the myth: the idea that Aperture needs a ton of RAM and processing power is somewhat misleading since this program has run just fine on my underpowered iMac until version 10.6.5..  That's right, full screen editing with brushes applied to images over 30mb not a problem.  I even edited files twice as large without a hitch.  SO, if you have an iMac and can only function with Aperture with 8gb of ram and a 1gb graphics card, you may have other issues. (with faces off and location off)
    Now, my solution to my problem: via a clone, I reverted back to 10.6.4 after my first 10.6.8 attempt. I ran the Snow Leopard graphics update for 10.6.4 again.  I updated to 10.6.8 via a manual download from Apple NOT THROUGH SOFTWARE UPDATE.  While this shouldn't make a difference, since both files were the Combo update, I went for the manual update anyway.  I ran software updater and updated all updates including the Aperture 3.1.2 update.  Since the updates I have had no crashes in Aperture using most of the adjustment and brush tools in the past several days.  I have, however, crashed in full screen mode as I believe this is a gpu RAM shortfall.  The thread that crashes is NOT the same thread as previous.  Therefore, I find Aperture useable once again.  Aside from the full screen caveat, I can say it functions as similar to the 10.6.4 version.  Again, 10.6.4 allowed me to work in full screen mode without crashes, but I have to be happy I can now have the APP STORE installed on my machine!
    By the way, graphic kext replacement via a utility made for such was a bust.  It did not work on one of my backup drives and the computer would just boot up with black and white patches for windows, rendering the computer un-useable.  Do not attempt to replace new NVIDIA kexts with those from 10.6.4 unless you want a world of hurt....
