Clone Oracle DB without SYS priviledges on source system
Hi all,
I work in application support and often need to debug application issues quickly, using a recent copy of production data. I'm looking for a method to clone a production database without having system priviliedges on the source system. I have access to the filesystem (ie datafiles).
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ben.

You are application support, This should handled by DBA.
You have backup of that database? then you can perform just restore of database in destination server without connecting to Target/source database.

RSA1 Source System DBConnect problem with 8i DB
I have just upgraded my BI instance to Oracle 11G. After this, a source system connection to an Oracle 8i database configured using DBConnect does not work. I have read that a connection between 11g instant client and an 8i database is not possible.
After switching back to the Oracle 10G instant client, the source system connection works fine.
I'm just wondering if anybody has encountered this, and if there is any way to have the 11G instant client in place for SAP as a whole but have DBConnect use the 10G client to connect to the 8i DB. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!Hello,
Please check your RFC destination whether the source system already exists.
In the source system creation you assign the IP address instead of source system name. Please go through the screens (SM59).
If you have not used IP address you can ignore it.
Thanks

Hi Experts,
I created a Flat File Source System in BW Development system based on that i created DSO,CUBE,MULTICUBE,PROCESS CHAIN and REPORTS.
Issue :
I need to transport them to Test and Production system. There is no Flat File source system avaliable in Test & Production....I know that we don't Transport Source Systems across BW Environments...how to deal with this...do i need to ask our basis team to create source systems in Test and Production before importing any transports.Yes - you basis guy will help you to setup the source systems.

Is it possible to clone an instance without any data?
Hi,
Is it possible to clone an instance without any data?
Say I want to clone an instance to make a new instance on some other server so that the new clone will be same like a fresh installation without any customization and data in it.
ThanksEBS with empty database
One option you have is to do another fresh install, apply all of the patches that have been applied on the current instance, then use iSetup to migrate your setups from source to target.

and made my host file look like as
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.10.10.10 hassan.com hassan
then i tested the ping by pinging hassan.com and the reply came from 10.10.10.10
and also i disabled my wireless network card before running adcfgclone
and it worked ALLHAMDOLLILAH :)
Thanks to the great masters Hussein & Helios :)

Which cases are Enterprise Link necessary and which cases not?
Thanks in advance
AnaYes definitely, you can very well install BAM without the enterprise link. The BAM installation asks you the components you want to install.
Enterprise link is used to push data into ADC(for the corresponding data objects). You can utilise this component for feeding data to BAM from n number of sources. The only way to send data to BAM ADC w/o using enterprise link is through BPEL sensors. So, in case you are planning to use BAM only with BPEL sensors and nothing else. You can very well skip Enterprise Link installation.

Backup full with DataPump without sys o system password
Hi
I am into the OS connected as oracle user which is the owner of the Oracle Software. I can connect to the database so : sqlplus / as sysdba without problems. Now I want backup full with DataPump and export utility without sys o system password.
How would be the command line ?
ThanksNone,
as Oracle advises expressly against exporting as the SYS user (when you issue / as sysdba, you are connected as SYS).
So you need to override the SYSTEM password using a documented method, via ALTER USER.
Apart from that: syntax questions are preferably not asked here as they make you look having lack of industry.

Using Oracle BI Server as a Data Source for Third Party Tools
I have been researching how to use the Oracle BI Server as a data source for two days now. I have not yet found a solution to my problem.
We have a remote user who is pulling data from one of our Oracle databases using automated tools. This data base is essentially being replaced by Oracle Analytics. However, we do not want this user to get at the physical tables of Analytics, rather, we want the user to be able to connect to the Oracle BI Server itself, and issue Logical SQL to pull data.
Here are the requirements which I need to be fulfilled:
1) The ability for a remote user to connect to the BI Server as a data source.
2) The remote user must be able to do this on a Unix box.
3) The remote user must be able to automate the process of issuing SQL to the BI Server. (Command line interface is preferable)
4) The solution needs to be easily implementable, that is, this solution will be implemented many times over.
I found many articles explaining how to set up a Windows box to connect to the BI Server in this way. However, these articles outline how to use tools like Excel and Microsoft Query to pull data from the BI Server. Our current user is using SQLplus.
If possible, I would like the user to continue using SQLplus as the tool for connecting to and retriving information from our BI Server. I have tested using SQLplus many different ways to no avail. I have also tried using other tools, such as Oracle SQL Developer.
Is there a program out there that will fulfill the needs I have outlined above? Or, does someone know of a way to use SQLplus to connect to the Oracle BI Server as a data source? Or, is there a series of solutions which will fulfill the needs outlined above?
Edited by: user11177366 on Jun 11, 2009 11:46 AMI agree it would be inefficient but only because you are using OBIEE for something it was not designed to do. You are basically asking for a "DB feed" and that should designed using PL/SQL, DB Links, Web Services or whatever is your entreprise standard to send data from one system to another. Using OBIEE for this seems a bad architecture decision to me.You are correct, the BI Server is not really intended to be queried like another Oracle Database remotely. However, the reason we are trying to do it this way is twofold:
1) We want to enforce data level security.
2) The BI Server has been fine tuned for high performance.
Forcing the end users to go through the BI Server rather than directly to the physical tables or other sorts of systems built on top solves both of these issues.
I think you are wrong. I don't see why SQLPlus should be able to query the BI Server. The BI Server can sit on top of many different DBs not just Oracle, even flat files etc. So you can't really expect the BI Server to able to translate all that into Oracle SQL output so you can query it using SQLPlus. The BI Server is not an Oracle RDBMS.You're right again. The BI Server isn't an Oracle RDBMS, and I have been wanting to treat it like one. From the data I have gathered SQLPlus can't query the BI Server.
However, my research has led me to realize that the BI Server supports the JDBC API. Therefore, (I should have went down this route in the first place) one can use the JDBC driver provided by Oracle (bijdbc14.jar) to interface with the BI Server. There are many programs and applications out there that support the JDBC API and let us connect to BI Server the way we want to. Furthermore, these programs are mostly platform independent, as they are mostly written in Java.
Lastly, from what I understand the NQCMD program can be installed on any platform as well (provided by Oracle). This is another option to connect to the BI Server as well.
Thanks for your help and your comments as I went through this process of discovery. -
Creating Source systems in two same logical BW systems from single R/3 sys
Hi All,
We are facing an issue while creating Source systems in two same logical BW systems, from single R/3 systems. Our Basis team is telling that if we want to connect the single R/3 system into 2 BW systems with same logical name, we will need to delete the source systems from one BW systems and create in another system. Also they told by doing so it will delete all the transfer rules and PSA table existing in the current BW system, which has the source system connectivity with the R3 system now.
Is this anyway to create the same source systems in two same logical BW systems, from single R/3 systems without deleting the transfer rules?. Also please help us to get anu OSS note or document explaining this in details.
Regards.
Muruganand.KHi Muruganand,
I dont think it is possible as connecting one R/3 Source System to two BW Systems.
If you could get the possible solution, please do reply to the post.

External date format in oracle source system
Hai friends ,
My situation is data reconciliation on the cube .I have virtual provider designed with date .My oracle source system has dates in external format say 19-sep-2009 .How to approach my virtual provider in BI with these date fields ..
iam thinking of inversion routines to communicate with the source system and then reconvert again to BI format in the start routine .Suggest me if any logics with examples.
Goodday.Hello,
Please refer to the information in the SAP note 518241 , the note refers to DB connect but the section in the note on converting the
date fields to SAP date format should also be helpful in your case.
Best Regards,
