Close HyperTerminal Application using LabVIEW

I have a client who wants LabVIEW to close the HyperTerminal Application automatically is it has the serial port open.
Detecting that the serial port is already in use is simple. I already have a popup that tells the operator to close any communication application because the port is already in use; however, they want it done automatically.
HyperTerminal does not have ActiveX support and they will not go to the more professional version which does.
A long time ago, I had read a thread where it was possible to close (or open?) and application that did not have ActiveX support. I was hoping to use this similar approach.. Opening the app is simpler, but closing it is a different story. You need some sort of reference to that application to tell Windows which one to close. The OS in Win-XP.
Suggestions are welcomed.

taskkill /IM hyperterm.exe
will kill all hyperterm windows open, BUT it will ask you if you want to close any open sessions, which I think you don't want.
taskkill /F /IM hyperterm.exe
does the trick (without chewing up the com port, I just tried)

Is it possible to generate a command line(CLI) executable using LabVIEW? This CLI exe will be called with certain command line arguments by another application (written in Visual Basic). The LabVIEW Run time engine can be installed separately on the host PC.

There is an example that ships with LabVIEW that shows how to read the command line arguements from an application. THe name of the VI is CommandLine.vi. It is extremely basic though. The power of command line arguements really comes from how you define and parse them. I recommend allowing your command line arguements to be order independent and that they require a label. For comand lines I prefer to use a single letter for the label. Full words are nice but then your command line gets very long. For the applications that we write we allow both the '/' (DOS/Windows style) and the '-' (Unix/Linux style) to designate a command line label.

Close the application using the camera, then try opening!!!

i use my built in isight everymorning with iMovie and iChat. I used it again this morning. Throught out the day, for some reasons i had to reinstall quicktime and another video file exporter software "ffmpegx". now i don't know if this has to do anything with it, but now if i open my ichat, imovie, phoneboot, anyway, all of them, they keep saying that the camera is being used by another application!!! there is NO application using the camera!!! i tried to restart, shut it down, even deleted the video file export software, even reinstalled quicktime another time, yet the message keeps popping up. i am travelling and don't have my restore or reboot cd with me. i need my camera to work, it is part of my work. i need some help.

Close windows application by Labview 2009

hi,
i would like to close a windows application (ie : scientific calculator) automatically by LabView 2009
i've read on differents posts that we must use API Win32 with the user32.dll, i have followed recommandations and procedures.
i have written the vi in attached file and tested it but unfortunatly it doesn't work, the windows "calculator" remains open without error message in the error cluster
Could you help me?

How can I detect open applications using LabView 6i

I am using ActiveX to open and write data to an Excell spreadsheet. I open a Template sheet, fill in the new data, then save the spreadsheet under a new name.
I have discovered that if excell is already open when the VI starts, the spread sheet does not get saved under the new name, and the data ends up being saved with my template worksheet.
I need a method of determining if Excell is open and if so close as part of the VI's startup routine.

You can use the "ActiveWindow" method on the "_Application" node to see if it returns a valid refnum or not.
A valid refnum tells you Excel is open, an invalid says it's not.

Closing an application using ios4

Is there a way to close an application using ios4 without double tapping the home button and closing the application by holding down on the application and waiting for the red minus sign?
Before you just had to hit the home button to exit the application, and now I'm not sure.
Not sure it makes a difference if the applications are open, but I thought I'd like to know if there is a simple step to exit and close the application.

I actually have noticed my battery is depleting faster since upgrading to iOS4. Basically I've noticed that every time I look at the battery sensor, it's gone down 1% from the last time I looked, and I'm checking it quite frequently. A test I ran was I had Facebook & TweetDeck open at the same time (just 2 apps). I posted a tweet on TweetDeck and found my battery was down 1% in the time it took to draft a small 140 character message. I don't know if that is something to do with the new OS but I do know writing a tweet didn't use up 1 whole percent of my battery before. I think the new OS was really meant for the iPhone 4 and the 3GS was just like an afterthought. Maybe its not the multitasking per se, maybe it's just the new OS eats through more battery naturally but either way, it kind of ***** for those of us who live on our 3GS iPhones and are not eligible to upgrade.

From my perspective if you want a captivate project to close
when it is done just go to the Edit menu, Preferences, Project,

I have created an application using LABview, in which i'm testing an Electronic Hardware before and after programming the Microcontroller available in the hardware.I've almost completed the project expect the auto programming Of Microcontroller using LABview.
I have to use PIC2kit or PIC3kit to fuse the c code.It would be helpfull ,if i get any support or clarification in the above mentioned auto programming using labview.

You have multiple options:
Since, it is supported by Keil (Atmel AT91SAM9263) you can follow the LabVIEW for ARM Microcontrollers porting guide (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/6994). You may be especially interested how Phytec board has been ported.
Also, if you want other RTOS, you can use Microprocessor SDK and read again about Phytec (http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/AB597F3FD5D9011886257448005F4A0C).

Now the customer want this software to be run on server and some fixed number of clients should access this with some login security.
Is this fascility available with National Instruments in which i can installed this standalone application in server and allow some clients to access this with
proper login?

Yes, that is possible. Multiple clients can access the VI using Web Publishing tool and control the VI operation. However, only one client has the control of the VI at one instance. The client needs to right click on the web page displaying the front panel of the running VI and ask for control and then release control after the execution to let other clients to ask for the control subsequently. The LabVIEW VI needs to be running upon the server computer since closing LabVIEW also closes the Web Publishing server and disconnects the currently connected clients.

hello, the LM3S8962 microcontroller is a good sispositivos for developing applications of medium complexity, according to your questions:
1. if you work applications with embedded systems will save labview time in prototyping, we know that if you work with a company specific microcontroller, you must learn the language with which you are working Asm, Basic, C, then if you change hardware again start adapting your code in the libraries of the new compiler. Labview does not happen.

What are the limitations of using labview 8.5.1 developers suite verses a real-time module in field point applications? Can an exe. be loaded onto a field point controller or does the controlling program have to reside on a PC for example?

centerbolt is correct, you can't load a .exe or even run a program on the fieldPoint controller unless you have the Real Time module. However, that does not mean you can't use your FieldPoint bank without the Real Time module.
From LabVIEW for windows you can make calls to the fieldpoint IO using the fieldpoint read/write functions.
This program runs on the PC not the FieldPoint controller. If you loose network connection to the fieldpoint, your program will loose connection to the IO. For many data logging applications this type of arrangement can work just fine. However, if this is the only type of application you are ever going to run, then you may as well not buy the Real Time controller for your fieldpoint but the network controller only.
If your application requires more reliability, and/or greater determinism than can be achieved by running a program on windows, then you should use the LabVIEW Real Time module and develop a program that can run down on the FieldPoint controller independent of windows.

For the iPad, using OS 7.02, how do you now close an application? When I double click, go to the task bar and touch on the icon, it no longer gives me the option to close the application. Do you no longer need to quite an application?

Starting applications remotely using LabView activeX server

I want to
make a program that enables me to start applications on a remote computer. I
made a program that starts applications using either System exec.vi or .NET and
both methods work find on my local computer. I built it with activeX server
enabled and copied it to my remote computer. After struggling with DCOM
settings and Security settings for a couple of days!! I’m now able to start the
program from my local computer. The thing is that I can’t see either the
LabView program or the started application. When opening the Windows Task
Manager, I can see both the programs under the Process tab so they have
started, but obviously as a “background” process and not as an application.
Does anyone
have an idea on how to start the programs as applications?

I have attached an example that uses the "Call Library Function Node" that accesses the "user32.dll" file that is responsible for manipulating with the windows such as minimising it.
After opening the VI you have to enter the name of the window you want to minimise, you can hard code that as a constant. Also on the front panel the control "nCmdShow" can be changed to dictate the action you want to do with the window.
Furthermore, please look at the Microsoft Developers Network to find more useful ways to use the property node in your project.
