Close portal main window without confirmation message

Hi All,
Is it possible to close the Portal Main Window (main page) without a confirmation popup window.
I am launching an iView (can be excel sheet/html page etc) using Quick Link which is attached to a role.
When this iView opens, I want to close the portal main page.
I am using the below code to close the main window.
window.top.close()
But it is prompting a confirmation popup window "Do you want to close this window". I don't want this popup message.
I have tried with below code also, but it is neither prompting nor closing the window.
window.opener=null;
window.close();
window.opener=self;
window.close();
Can anyone tell me how to acheive the above requirement.
Thanks
Chinna.

Hi Baby,
I am using IE6.
I am executing this code from my AbstractPortalComponent within the doContent method.
I have tested by replacing the browser URL with this script
javascript:window.top.open('','_self','');window.close();
It pops up the confirmation window.
Thanks
Chinna.

Hi,
you close dialog windows through the handler that you obtain when opening the window. In IE - and I assume this is where your problem comes from - a security mechanism has been added to prevent scripts from closing root windows without notification. If you want to close the root window I think the work around is to call a HTM page that only calls window.close() in its onload body attribute

• Firefox will open a New Pop-up Window in Windows 7 Aero. When trying to Close it, it thinks it wants me to Close the Main Window. Why?

I use Windows 7 Ultimate in Aero-mode. When a new Firefox window is opened, or a Pop-up window appears, I can't close it without first clicking on that page and clicking the "X" in the corner. Instead, whenever I try to close a window that is not the first window (my main window), it will ask me if I want to close the main window with all the tabs... I have noticed some other slight quirks in this stable release as well, but this one is always present.

When I hover over the window, it does come up front, but as soon as I press the red "X" it goes immediately back to the main window and acts as if I was trying to close that one. Once in a while it will work, but shortly thereafter, it will just go back into this manner. Quite odd. This is the first time I've truly had any problems with Firefox.
In addition to that problem I have noticed a few things, but one that may be linked is sometimes I'll click a link. Although I haven't specified to open it in a new window, it will do so anyhow. This gets annoying quickly. Usually shutting down Firefox and reopening will fix this (and once in a while just leaving it be for a long time). Somehow, I think this issue is somehow linked to the one above.

• SapScript 'MAIN' Window without 'Text Element'

Why is it, if we run 'MAIN' Window without defining 'Text Element'(/E), it displays the contents twice.. The same doesn't happens with other 'Variable' windows..

Hi Main window is different from Var window.
Var window will call only once .
But main window it will call many times, it will go to Driver program and come back to populate the data.

• Close Portal Browser Window?

I have a custom R/3 transaction that I am calling from the portal using the com.sap.portal.appintegrator.sap.bwc.Transaction iview. The transaction is being called in it's own popup window using a URL like this - http://<server>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.appintegrator.sap.bwc.Transaction?System=SAP&TCode=<TCODE>&GuiType=WinGui&OkCode=/00&ApplicationParameter=<Parameters>.
My question would be is it possible to close the whole browser window after the transaction is done, right now I can end the SAP session, but not close the Browser window.
Thanks,
Obadiah

Hi Obadiah,
After you launch a transaction iView all the communication is done between the back-end application and the browser, without any portal involvement. Therefor the is no way (from potal point of view) to tell when you quit the application.
However, in your case I would go for a simple work around - Start the application in SSF (SAP Shortcut File) mode. It will simply launch the transaction directly in you SAP GUI, without any browser. It's easily configureable in that iView's property editor, under "Content - Transaction" category -> see "SAP GUI type".

• I always have many tabs open in FF, and rely on it restoring them each time I close/open it again. Sometimes I'll have a second window open and will close the main window first, losing a record of tabs I had open. Is there a way around this?

Seems like when FF restores a session, it restores the session of the last window open. If you use tabs as a way of keeping a list of things to do or look at, you have to be careful if you have a second window open to close the second window before your main one, or you will lose your list. I'm absent minded though and do this all the time. The only way to prevent this is bookmark all my tabs once a day, but I tend to forget to do even that. Any workaround for this?

When you re-open Firefox and choose Restore Session, by default it picks up your most-recently-open window, and the other windows should then show up in Recently Closed Windows.
The Firefox add-on Session Manager lets you manage how many closed windows and closed tabs are saved, in case it's not enough.

• I want to close the iMessage window without quitting the program

Hi,
I have run into this problem before and I figured it out before but now it is an issue again and I can't change it. When I let a friend borrow my computer, I logged out of iMessage and now after relogging in, I find that my iMessage program quits once I close the window. This makes it quite difficult if I am running a full screen app and it takes me out of it as soon as I get a message. I don't want to have iMessage on "offline" and this box is unchecked when I quit but it still puts me on "offline". How can I remedy the situation by being able to close the window but not quit the program itself? I just want the notifications on the top but not the whole window to open on me during work or class. Please help

HI,
It should, and I repeat should, close the Window Only if you use the red blob to close the window.
The Messages Window (See Window Menu > Messages CMD + 0) should come back into view using the Window Menu or the keystrokes.
I tend to run Messages with my Buddy list showing.
I have used the red Button to "Hide" all of these.
The red button on the Messages window did not close/Quit the app for me.
Having said that you seem to be describing different behaviour.
I rechecked by logging out all my Buddy lists so that the Messages window would be the only window on view.
It still does not quit the app when I use the Red Button.
The indicator under the icon in the Dock remains in place.
I went one stage further and logged the iMessages Account Off Line as well and still the Red Button did not Quit the app.
IN the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder type in ~/Library/Preferences in the Dialogue box that appears.
Find com.apple.ichat.plist (this holds the Window locations and actions).
Drag it to the Trash
Restart Messages.
The will recreate the .plist
You may need to change some settings in the Preferences if you are not using defaults (Font, Colour of Balloon etc)

• Why does FF open two windows when I open it? Why can't I close the second window without closing FF altogether?

After FF automatically updated it started opening two windows whenever I start FF. One window has the open tabs from my previous session and the other window has only the FF home page open in one tab, nothing else. I can't close either window without shutting FF down altogether. I have limited RAM (3GB), running Mac Lion, which eats up a lot of resources and now FF eats up the rest. It's a real pain in the ass.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

• Close, Hide, Move borderless window without passing Window instance MVVM Light

Hi everyone,
I'm now working with an app which is on MVVM Model, and I'm using MVVM Light to make that app . I wonder if I can close the current window and open another one without passing Window instance or not . I've seen a way which helps me to close the current window
without passing the instance through MVVM Command :
return new RelayCommand(() => Application.Current.Windows.Cast<Window>().Single(w => w.DataContext == this).Close());
But what if I handle the MouseDown event, I have to use LinQ so many times.
Can anyone help me please ?

If you want to do something with a window without having a reference to it, you could send a message from a class using the Messenger and then subscribe to this message in the window class itself and close it or do whatever from there.
public class CloseWindowMessage
ViewModel:
return new RelayCommand(() => { GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Messaging.Messenger.Default.Send<CloseWindowMessage>(new CloseWindowMessage()); } );
Window:
GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Messaging.Messenger.Default.Register<CloseWindowMessage>
this,
(action) => this.Close()
Please refer to the following links for more information about how to use the Messenger in MVVM Light:

• When I open a separate window and start private browsing my main window closes and I lose all of my app tabs

whenever I open a new window and do private browsing it closes my main window and I loose all of my app tabs. If this is functioning as designed then it is a flaw in the design.

It is designed that way. When you stop private browsing, all of your other tabs will come back.

• How do I selectivly close the only not responding window (without closing the other 3 responding windows)

Presently, I have 4 windows opened, each with a bunch of tabs.
Since I restarted firefox this morning, one out these 4 windows, keeps on not displaying.
How do I selectivly close this only window (without closing the 3 others windows)

Here is what the manpage shows:
[ps(1)|http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/p s.1.html]
state The state is given by a sequence of letters, for example, ``RWNA''. The first letter indicates the run
state of the process:
I Marks a process that is idle (sleeping for longer than about 20 seconds).
R Marks a runnable process.
S Marks a process that is sleeping for less than about 20 seconds.
T Marks a stopped process.
U Marks a process in uninterruptible wait.
Z Marks a dead process (a ``zombie'').
Additional characters after these, if any, indicate additional state information:
+ The process is in the foreground process group of its control terminal.
< The process has raised CPU scheduling priority.

The process has specified a soft limit on memory requirements and is currently exceeding that
limit; such a process is (necessarily) not swapped.
A the process has asked for random page replacement (VA_ANOM, from vadvise(2), for example,
lisp(1) in a garbage collect).
E The process is trying to exit.
L The process has pages locked in core (for example, for raw I/O).
N The process has reduced CPU scheduling priority (see setpriority(2)).
S The process has asked for FIFO page replacement (VA_SEQL, from vadvise(2), for example, a large
image processing program using virtual memory to sequentially address voluminous data).
s The process is a session leader.
V The process is suspended during a vfork.
W The process is swapped out.
X The process is being traced or debugged.

• Disable Main Window Close

I have developed an AIR application and here is my goal, I don’t want users been able to close the main window. I have tried to disable the close button but I thing that it is not possible. I would like to find a way to control that may be in trapping the close event of the window.
Regards,

You can listen to the Event.CLOSING event and preventDefault on it, for example:
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
creationComplete="init()">
<fx:Script>

private function init():void {
addEventListener(Event.CLOSING, cancelClose);
private function cancelClose(e:Event):void {
if (!allowClose.selected)
e.preventDefault()

</fx:Script>
<s:CheckBox id="allowClose" label="allow closing" />
</s:WindowedApplication>
